The conversation delves into the impact of Brandon's high school coach, Roger Dupaix, and his unique coaching style, which instilled work ethic, consistency, and attention to detail. Brandon shares how these principles seamlessly transitioned to his college football experience at BYU under the legendary coach Lavell Edwards. He illustrates Lavell's unwavering leadership, delegation style, and the environment of trust he fostered among his coaches. Brandon reflects on his experience as a counselor in a married student ward bishopric while still playing at BYU—an early calling that provided valuable spiritual growth and a crucial perspective. Currently serving as a stake president for a young single adult stake, Brandon shares the unique aspects of this calling, including the transition to having young adults in all leadership positions. He notes the challenges faced by young adults today and how the stake strives to create a supportive and spiritually nourishing environment. The discussion explores the specifics of leading a YSA stake, including the geographic considerations and the collaborative approach with family stakes in calling bishops. Brandon emphasizes the role of the bishop and his wife as examples and guides for the young adults. He also discusses the dynamic with his counselors and the focus on temple ordinances and training. Brandon shares key principles, such as prioritizing the most important aspects and the constant need to adapt and learn. He highlights the valuable training provided by church leadership, the importance of finding and gathering all individuals, and his belief in the divine potential of each young adult to receive a full inheritance. 00:00:00 - Introduction to YSA Leadership and Transition 00:03:24 - Brandon Doman's Early Faith Development and Family Influence 00:06:03 - Family Challenges and the Pursuit of Football Scholarships 00:07:30 - The Role of Sports and Parental Involvement in Childhood 00:13:05 - Influence of High School Coach Roger Dupe and His Principles 00:15:49 - Transition to BYU Football and Lavell Edwards' Coaching 00:20:48 - A Leadership Lesson from Lavell Edwards' Consistency 00:23:19 - Lavell Edwards' Delegation and Trust in His Coaches 00:24:53 - Early Church Leadership as a BYU Quarterback 00:28:30 - Calling as a Stake President for Young Single Adults 00:33:15 - Challenges and Needs of Young Adults in Today's World 00:37:57 - Orienting Bishops in Young Single Adult Wards 00:39:39 - The Role of Bishops and Their Wives as Examples 00:41:26 - Dynamics with Stake Counselors and Focus on Temple Ordinances 00:43:10 - Key Leadership Principles Learned as Stake President 00:48:12 - Hope and Encouragement for Those Worrying About Young Adults 00:54:54 - The Importance of Gathering and Finding Everyone The award-winning Leading Saints Podcast is one of the top independent Latter-day Saints podcasts as part of nonprofit Leading Saints' missio...

Jason, James, and Scott on using Native American symbols as sports mascots, his experiences in the NFL, and playing for LaVell Edwards at BYU
Andy Reid is the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs where he has won three Super Bowls. After the most recent championship, his two star players had this to say about Andy as a leader: First Travis Kelce: “I got the greatest coach this game has ever seen. He's unbelievable at not only dialing up plays and having everybody prepared, but he's one of the best leaders of men that I've ever seen in my life. I owe my entire career to that guy. I just love him man.” Second Patrick Mahomes: “I believe he is the best coach of all time. For me, he brings out the best in me because he lets me be me. He doesn't try to make me anyone else. I don't think I would be the quarterback that I am if I didn't have coach Reid being my head coach.” I can't imagine two better endorsements of Andy and his leadership style. In this episode we discuss the following: When Andy thinks about the most important things he's learned about leadership, he thinks about his role models, from church leaders to LaVell Edwards. What Andy especially loved about LaVell Edwards is that he was never out of control, he was honest, he was a good teacher, and he was consistent. Andy is so good at applying lessons learned from LaVell Edwards, for example, keeping control of his emotions when getting “bumped to the other side of the 50” by Travis Kelce in the Super Bowl. Andy is so good at applying lessons learned from LaVell Edwards. For example, committing to always be honest with his players because he doesn't believe you can be a good teacher if you're not honest. One of Andy's greatest leadership strengths: He knows his players. He remembers that Chris Jones was wearing a red tuxedo 8 years ago when Chris didn't get drafted in the first round. He knows that Travis Kelce is the oldest player on the team. He remembers drafting Kelce in his first year at Kansas City and has watched him grow up. Andy's greatest leadership strength: He loves his players. Andy loves Travis Kelce for his passion, even when getting yelled at and bumped in the Super Bowl. Andy loved Travis for putting his body on the line every play and for wanting to give more.Andy loves Chris Jones for committing to do all he could do to win the Super Bowl, and then reaching deep into no man's land to make it happen. Andy loves Patrick Mahomes coming into the huddle every day saying, “Let's be great!” It's important for leaders to be calm, honest, consistent, teachers. But I think Andy is one of the greatest of all time for two additional reasons: He knows his players and he loves them. The Locked On Cougars Podcast for Tuesday, September 21, 2021 Tuesday's podcast (released Monday night) began where most in-season Tuesday's start as we recap Kalani Sitake's weekly press conference. Jake Hatch explains what the loss of Keenan Pili means for the Cougars' defense and why BYU's success can be chalked up to Kalani Sitake emulating LaVell Edwards in one key way Attention then shifted to the success the Cougars have had, going 19-3 since losing to USF in 2019 and winning 14 of their last 15 games. That success is being noticed and there is a real threat that BYU could lose Kalani Sitake unless they are willing to seize the opportunity to show the architect of their resurgence the love he deserves Finally, the podcast wrapped up with notes on the health status of Jaren Hall as it sounds like he should be full-go this weekend along with updates on the BYU women's golf program and men's tennis team both in action on Tuesday Support Us By Supporting Our Locked On Podcast Network Sponsors! This is a great discussion with Pastor Derwin, the founder of Transformation Church who also played football under Lavell Edwards from 1989-992. He also played in the NFL for six years. Dr. Derwin Gray's church is a non-denominational, multi-ethnic church on purpose. This is how he designed it. We talk about his journey in life, BYU, and many lessons that apply to Latter-day Saints, a faith he is very familiar with. Website- https://www.cwicmedia.com
