For the latest Everything Action Commentary, Zach and Chris are joined again by special guest Phil from Digital Pimp to watch another terrible comic book movie, Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. In the final Superman film starring Christopher Reeve, the madmen at The Cannon Group acquired the rights to Superman, even though they were hemorrhaging money, and pitted the Man of Steel against a radioactive glam rock villain, Nuclear Man (Mark Pillow) as part of Lex Luthor's (Gene Hackman) scheme. Margot Kidder, Marc McClure, and Jackie Cooper return as Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and Perry White, respectively, while Jon Cryer co-stars as Lex's nephew Lenny, and Mariel Hemingway plays the horny new editor of The Daily Planet, Lacy Warfield. While watching the movie, the guys discuss how it seems like Gene Hackman had no restrictions on his wardrobe or set design, how most of the movie is a wacky 80s sitcom, Nuclear Man's absurd weakness to darkness, the bonkers gym scene, and more. You can watch Superman IV: The Quest for Peace on Max. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is the sad end to a beloved series. Well, III was also terrible, but there is something uniquely depressing about Superman IV. Perhaps it's the fact that they coaxed Christopher Reeve into returning by agreeing to center the film on the threat of nuclear escalation; and then as they shot the movie, budget cuts kneecapped the project faster than a speeding bullet. Superman IV was clearly hindered by Cannon's frugal ways, but it's a bizarre and poorly written film, as well. The movie's central antagonist Nuclear Man has the look of a compelling villain, but his voice was dubbed with Gene Hackman's. A move that truly put the f%*$ in WTF. Couple that with shoddy special effects, a nonsensical love triangle, and a B-plot seemingly taken from an never produced episode of the George Reeves show and you've got one of the more notorious superhero movies ever made. Hence, why it bombed with critics and at the box office. Superman IV grossed just $36.7 million worldwide, further worsening the financial woes of Cannon Films. And it's 10% on Rotten Tomatoes is a far cry from even that of III (29%). Reeve, Margot Kidder, and Hackman all deserved so much better, lest we forget Jackie Cooper and Mark McClure. Now, sit back, go nuclear with a Sol Mexican Lager, and broker world peace through a tender hearted letter! I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Chumpzilla, Capt. Cash, and Bling Blake are fist-fighting some whacko with press-on nails and feathered hair on the Moon! This Week's Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – Nuclear Power. Is it bird.. is it a plane… no it's a film franchise crashing and burning. This week we continue with the story of the Man of Steel as he takes on a nuclear weapons with a budget of £10.50. When a school kid (who's even more annoying than Ricky from the last film) writes a letter asking Superman to rid the world of nuclear weapons, Superman does just that with no issues from other nations. However Lex Luthor has other ideas and plans to cash in and makes a naw super being Nuclear Man (not Dolph Lundgren) using a lunchbox and a strand of hair. Join Becca, Dave and Chris as we talk about what the hell we just watched, Superman abusing Lois, how exactly does Nuclear Man has Gene Hackman's voice, just how much Christopher Reeve really wants to be here and how many times we see that same shot of Sups flying towards the camera. Like many Superman fans, British actor Aaron Price grew up believing a man could fly — thanks to the spectacular 1978 Richard Donner film starring Christopher Reeve as the Man of Steel. But a decade after that film, Superman IV arrived to challenge fans' faith with a rough, budget-challenged story that pitted Supes against Nuclear Man, a forgettable villain created vis-a-vis the Cold War arms race.Still, Price believes the film is redeemable — and in this special bonus episode of The Industry, he explains how he is trying to restore director Sydney J. Furie's original vision for Reeve's final Superman film. You can follow Aaron Price and his campaign to #ReleasetheFurieCut on Twitter: He's @AaronLewisPrice. Things don't go real well though when the Nuclear Man shows up and throws a wrench in the works. Over in Avengers No Road Home, we return to the weekly format for Avengers as Voyager returns bringing some bad news about an enemy that is powerful enough to take out the gods of Olympus. We also talk about the debut issue of Savage Sword of Conan, it is perfect in tone and mood for the Cimmerian and evokes the classic feel of a Robert E Howard novel. The final quest for Old Man Logan is under way, the question is will he survive it? Meanwhile, Riri Williams is struggling with all her responsibilities and hasn't yet learned the very important lesson of when to ask for help. They say wisdom comes with age, is this a lesson Iron Heart will learn in time? We really love the story Kyle Higgins is telling in Winter Soldier, returning Bucky to his roots and humanity by having him reaching out to those who may feel trapped by their situation, just like he was when he first became the Winter Soldier. We finish up with Daredevil #22 as the plan that Matt Murdock has for eliminating crime in New York starts to come into focus. It great to see Charles Soule using his experience and knowledge as a lawyer to bring together both sides of Matt Murdock's life in way that has never felt more integrated.

The team attempts to track Ronnie's whereabouts after he injures a scientist. Knowing that Dr. Martin Stein is in control of Ronnie's body, they use his wife to talk Stein/Ronnie into coming back to the lab for testing. Meanwhile, Joe enlists Cisco's help to identify who murdered Barry's mother. Cisco discovers an old mirror left in the former Allen home that captured images from the night of the murder, and Joe finds blood from two people behind some new wallpaper, one of whom was likely the killer. Joe asks Cisco to compare the blood to Dr. Wells', but Cisco refuses to believe Dr. Wells is involved. Dr. Wells discovers that Ronnie and Dr. Stein's atoms are in conflict, and if it continues they will become nuclear. Dr. Wells determines that the tachyon device recharging his speed could be converted to a quantum splicer to stabilize Ronnie's body and separate the two personalities. Dr. Snow uses the device; Ronnie's body still goes nuclear, but safely away from the city. The explosion alerts General Eiling, who orders a team to recover F.I.R.E.S.T.O.R.M. Cisco runs the blood samples and informs Joe that while neither is from Dr. Wells, one is from an adult Barry.

For 20 years it seemed Nuclear Man and Lex Luthor really had killed Superman. Every attempt to bring the man of steel back to theaters had fallen through. While fellow DC superhero Batman had a major franchise launch, fail, and reboot, Superman seemed relegated to the small screen with Lois and Clark and Smallville. But director Bryan Singer was flying high after two successful X-Men films, and rather than return for X-Men he had Superman Returns. A continuation of the original two films, Superman Returns has the Kryptonian hero facing off again with nemesis Lex Luthor. Fans did not embrace Singer's vision and planned sequels were scrapped in favor of a complete reboot -- Man of Steel opening this week in theaters! But does Superman Returns deserve its bad reputation? Listen to Now Playing and find out! Then join us next week as we review the brand new Superman film Man of Steel!

Richard Donner, Christopher Reeve, even Richard Lester and the Salkinds, all had declared they were done with Superman. After a disappointing Superman 3 and a disastrous Supergirl the franchise seemed more toxic than kryptonite and the rights were sold off to cheapo genre film company Cannon Films. But despite star Reeves' earlier comments distancing himself from the character, Reeve again returned in exchange for both control over the story and a guarantee his pet project Street Smart would be made. The film ended up a notorious Nuclear Man sized bomb, but is it as bad as is thought? Listen to Jakob, Stuart, and Arnie's review to find out!
