Greetings Super friends! Welcome to Superman & Lois & Pals. I’m Henry Bernstein and alongside me is my favorite super pal, Professor Sam Brody. We’re back! That hiatus actually flew by. I would like to say that it helped that we had Supergirl and Flash to fill in, but in my opinion both have been really frustrating. I know because of Covid and because she’s a new mom the filming of Supergirl has been difficult. But this is the LAST season of Supergirl. And the last time we get Mellissa Benoist who IMO has been a wonderful Supergirl. How can you have 7 episodes in a row where your star who’s name is the name of the show just isn’t in it? The two flashback episodes, while cute, literally didn’t have Kara in them at all. And in the most recent one she showed up at the end to hug her sister and that was it. VERY frustrating. But we’re not here to talk about Supergirl, we’re talking about Superman. Sam what a great episode to come back with. “Clark reconsiders his decision to let Jordan play football; Lois' continued investigation of Morgan Edge requires her to trust an unexpected ally.”Nice little “previously on…” Caught us up on what’s going on. I’m glad they’re digging in a bit more into the powers thing. Like it’s clear that Jordan has some serious powers that might be slightly different from Clark’s. So was Hologramps just wrong about him? Superman flying in looked great and we got MORE POWERFUL THAN A LOCOMOTIVE! I also loved that his first instinct was to talk to Tag, not punch him. That’s my Superman. I loved how he didn’t just stop the train but got it back on track. I like when heat vision fixes things instead of just blasting a bad guy. I liked Lois saying “I want you focused on the boys” and Clark didn’t argue. That’s a solid marriage right there. Why is Metropolis high school playing Smallville? There’s two options here. Metropolis is in the midwest like on the show Smallville and is quite close Sara does say “I’d hate to go all the way to Metropolis…”They’re in a hotelMetropolis high and Smallville high have the two best football teams in the country and it was a championship game or something. I know they’re teenagers and they make dumb decisions but I’m getting tired of the CW trope of not telling someone something which leads to a misunderstanding. Why wouldn’t Jordan tell Clark about the headaches and heat vision boiling over?I know we’re supposed to, but I hate Kyle and I don’t buy Lana with him AT ALL. How cool were all of Clarks fist marks in the tree trunk. How many times did he punch that thing growing up? “You’re stronger than you think you are”Nice to see Jonathan finally getting a chance to shine in the game, especially with Jordan working together with him. Glad to see Lois suspicious of “Marcus.” The main focus of the episode seemed to be on Jordan and his powers (tag etc) but Lois really shined this episode as badass reporter Lois Lane. Lois pointing out the ridiculousness of dressing up in disguise was funny. Sara’s going to have a rough time being a parent if she can’t watch a Disney movie a THOUSAND times. I HATE seeing people hit their head on stuff in movies. Like a total parent nightmare. Clark “catching” Jordan’s heat vision was so cool, creative and looked like it hurt Clark! I like when we see stuff we haven’t seen before that actually makes sense. Are we supposed to think Clark is overreacting or that Jordan is being a stupid teenager that makes mistakes? I know teenagers do dumb stuff like going out drinking but they JUST screwed up with that in the last couple episodes. This seems ill advised. Jonathan stopping Jordan’s punch was devastating. These kids are good actors. “You get to be Superman! Who am i? I wanted to be good at something. I’M NOT YOU! OK!” I’m glad this isn’t how it’s going in the comics but for some reason it makes sense and I like it. Sarah should be dead or have a concussion.“Don’t Run! I’m here to help you” - Superman should say that. Angry red eyes of anger are a trope but they worked here for me. “STAND DOWN” Yessir mr. superman.Incredible speech by Clark. And he immediately feels bad. “Probably not the best time to tell you I almost got killed tonight” Instantly gifable!Lois totally loises two scenes in a row, first as reporter with Lana second as super-mom with Jordan. Poor grammar by saying “bring me farther away.”I LOOOOOVED Clark rocketing off with Jordan, glasses still on and then going into 2nd and then THIRD Gear

Show Notes: Does Superman work best on TV as opposed to film? Why?Let’s talk about the recent controversy with the show. What allegedly happened according to former writer Nadria Tucker?https://thegrapevine.theroot.com/nadria-tucker-discusses-seemingly-out-of-nowhere-dismis-1846456451?fbclid=IwAR1Ipy9N1a0ECRsd-6f_3VkAIiYuG_pE7E1QP837lXy15LDAso16R8fhbj8Episode recap:“As Smallville celebrates its first Harvest Festival since Martha's passing, Clark is reminded what his mother meant to him and learns a lesson that will help him move past her death. Meanwhile, Lois makes a breakthrough in the investigation of Morgan Edge. Kyle tries to reconnect with Lana, but it seems like he might be falling back into his old ways.”Clark’s v/o with scenes of Smallville in slo-mo! YES PLEASE! More of this. Love that the fam is watching super-feats over breakfast. “Back to 1949 when Smallville was established” - ACCURATE. Superboy #2, 1949, written by Jerry Siegel. Are the Kents growing corn? I like that the Jordan/Sarah romance is progressing in a realistically awkward but normal way. Clark’s dorky dad embarrassing exuberance was so perfect. Jonathan’s life sucks in such a teenager “my life sucks” way. Lois handled the mom-advice to him like a champ. She didn’t react to his insult, and knows to just wait it out. Clark reacting to Jon’s unreasonable request of living at someone’s apt was to laugh. LOL Then Clark knowing he was drunk was also LOL. Good parenting just sending him home in an uber and then dealing with it later. No really. I love that last episode you thought Jonathan was being TOO good and here he flies off the handle. Yet he comes back and apologizes, no problem. Clark’s turn for some GREAT parenting. The Morgan Edge/Lois/Smallville story is a great reason why Superman works best serialized (tv, radio, comics). It was good to see Kyle and Lois acting normal to each other. Beppo’s line “Big Reporter Energy” was amazing.Really enjoyed the flashback scenes and more Martha. It’s interesting that Martha was his main influence as a teen.I wonder if we’ll get to see more flashbacks with Jonathan. I didn’t need to see him fighting crime like a proto-Batman, I would’ve prefered super-feats that help people. But I love seeing Clark being affected by the stuff around him and thinking about the past. “He knew I was here for a reason” - reference to Glen Ford talking to young Clark in STM. You get the feeling that Martha was just an absolute amazing woman. She really had a rough time raising a teenaged powered Clark as a single mom. It was cool seeing Martha send him on his way with the Kryptonian crystal. Usually it’s Jonathan passing along advice for how to proceed with what he was meant to do. Now that I think about it though, Pa dies when Clark appears to be a Senior in STM, and in Smallville Pa died about halfway through the run of the show. Anyway what exactly did Martha want him to do? Go to the fortress? Go to the future to become a Legionnaire? Where did Clark go? For how long? I mean I guess in STM he goes to the fortress at 18 for 7 years. I think I prefer the comics version where Clark graduates, heads off for an extended gap year to figure it all out then goes to Met U to study journalism. Anyway this was a strange way to do the transition from Smallville to Superman. But it was interesting. I still don’t fully understand how Clark and Lana remember their whole lives with the boys. I read a rumor that this show actually operates outside the Arrowverse...I love Clark saving the day secretly AS CLARK because it would be weird if Superman happened to be in Smallville. “Is that frost?”There’s something about Captain Luthor lurking around, pretending to be a journalist that doesn’t feel right to me. It seems like he understands that this is a different earth that he was on and that Lois is a different Lois. So why doesn’t he understand that this Superman is different from the one on his earth. And WHY doesn’t he realize that when they first meet and Superman wants to just talk. I assume what will happen is that Superman killed HIS Lois and so he’s just blinded by rage.

Scene 1 - What is Morgan Edge looking at?Football scene had a very Friday Night Lights vibe. Great little pep talk from Clark, love the confidence he has in Jordan. Didn’t Clark promise not to listen in on Lois? Is it just that he’s keyed in on Sam? Did he stop listening once he heard Lois?I love how Sam is just like, “I’ll stick around this weekend.” Uninvited. Btw, I had a Grandpa Sam who was much more loving than Sam Lane. Morgan Edge was a total creep. Is Lana’s husband just some sort of cuckold? Like does he want Edge to bang his wife? Is he just that naive?Interesting how Lois is a little too big to be working at Smallville Gazette. Like why wouldn’t she just write her own blog or tweet? She’s arguably the most famous reporter in the world.Lois confronting Edge and saying, “oh who cares” when he starts talking about his accent is so ballsy and funny. She IS Lois Lane. Can we talk about KILLGRAVE!? I mean this show was made for our generation of Superman fans. It’s funny because my moroy of the comic is that Killgrave brings real danger but Superman sort of always sees him as a nuisance. And I believe in his second to last or last appearance Superman basically threatens him to never come back again. But it’s good seeing a classic Superman villain that’s not Lex or Brainiac who even seems formidable. The way Superman handled it was great too. He kinda needed to hear his kids in order to snap out of it and finish Killgrave with a super clap. Ah the classic Superman not going to an emergency because he needs to tend to his family is finally here. You knew it was coming. Why is Superman’s code name “Bishop 6?” Is it a reference to Checkmate? Also, why does Superman need a codename? He has one, it’s called “SUPERMAN.” Tyler looks great in the suit. Very believable. Loved seeing him fly over Chicago, reminded me of Lois and Clark but with good SFX like Chicago in The Dark Knight. Even for Sam Lane, putting all of that pressure on the boys was OUTRAGEOUS. This is the Sam Lane I know from the comics. A jerk and basically as bad of a grandfather as he was a father.I know it’s part of the plot but it was incredibly disappointing that Clark didn’t make it to the town vote. I get missing a date with Lois or something but it seems like Clark Kent maybe would’ve been late but would’ve made an important thing like that. However, I do like Lois being mad but not passive aggressive and just talking about their issue. She had every right to be annoyed and she told it to Clark the way he needed to hear it. It’s so subtle but the look on Clark’s face of, “I don’t know what I’m doing anymore” felt realistic and felt like the kind of turmoil he should go through. In high school or college I probably would've enjoyed the party scene but it just makes me anxious now. Maybe it’s because I'm a middle school teacher and a parent. Lois and Lana’s girl’s night out was meh. I hate all the “men are like this and women are like this” stuff. So outdated and basic. Lois’ advice somehow leads to them completely making up over some pancakes? Ok. I like that Jon and Jordan took what their grandpa said seriously, (even if it was shitty advice) and wanted to solve it themselves. Great shot of Superman holding tag over the earth. There’s nothing quite like Lois Lane letting General Lane have it. Date night was so cute! And like that Sam learned his lesson. He’s not all bad. This is called GOOD character development. X-KRYPTONITE!!! DEEEEP CUT

In this episode Henry is joined by longtime friend and teen educator Daniel Warshawsky to talk about how mental health, and teen anxiety is being portrayed on Superman & Lois. SHOW NOTES: Episode 2, “Heritage” written by Todd Helbing, Directed by Lee Toland Krieger “While adjusting to their new lives in Smallville, Lois and Clark make an important decision concerning one of their sons; tensions begin to rise between Lois and Morgan Edge; Lana Lang Cushing invites the Kent family over for a barbecue.Jonathan has his first day on the Smallville football team but discovers that the other players aren't thrilled to have him. Clark takes Jordan to the Fortress of Solitude to study his son's newfound powers, and Lois is on the trail about Smallville's supposed benefactor, Morgan Edge.” We’re not going to talk about everything that happened in the episode but let’s talk about the theme for a bit. As I mentioned in our first episode the Superman theme is important to me. First of all, there really was just a snippet of it in the opening scene. The new theme: I didn’t love it. I thought it fit the tone of the show. It was slow, contemplative, and fit the slowed down lifestyle that the Kents have now. But it didn’t get me excited. It didn’t pop, it didn’t soar, it didn’t say “Superman.” Reminded me of the MoS theme which, in my opinion never really went anywhere. Overall: I really loved it. I had the same goofy grin on my face that I had last week. There was no cheesiness, nothing cringy. There was high quality acting, solid writing, and a compelling story. The Production: The high level of production value continued. This episode felt just as cinematic. The scenes on the farm were gorgeous, Lois walking into the town hall felt important and Superman’s action scenes were exciting. The tone continues to feel different from the other CW shows. I actually watched The Flash right after, and while I did enjoy it it did feel sillier than usual. The fortress: The look of the fortress was great. Felt familiar but wasn’t a retread of previous versions. Definitely an upgrade from the Fortress in Crisis last year. Jor-El: Forgive me but I don’t want to see a Jor-El that’s in worse shape than me. He also looked NOTHING like Tyler Hoechlin. If you’re going to do an homage or style similar to Superman The Movie, then go all the way. He just was boring and lame. Lois Lane: This was Lois’ episode to shine, and boy did she ever. Having her frame the episode with a voice over was perfect because you could imagine that she was writing this somewhere. Maybe in a journal, maybe in an article but it felt real. “You don’t go to the news, the news goes to you” The way Bitsie moved through the episode as intrepid reporter, loyal partner and super-mom was beautiful. I squealed with delight when she walked into town hall and when she walked into the Smallville Gazette I exclaimed out loud, “OHHHH SHIT!” Sam Lane: In the comics, specifically from 1986 and on, Sam is adversarial to both Clark and Superman. Doesn’t think Clark is tough enough to marry his daughter, and doesn’t like how potentially dangerous Superman is and therefore doesn’t trust him. I like this twist where he’s Superman’s support network but still questions Clark as a husband and as a dad. Clark: Clark is still struggling as a dad and even when he has a small victory with Jordan. The up and down experience of parenting, specifically teens, is very real. Let’s talk a bit about this with Daniel.

Henry and Sam talk about their overall impressions of the Pilot episode. What worked, what didn't, did you catch all the Superman references? Overall thoughts on the premier: Thumbs up Thumbs down? I loved it. I watched it twice, it might be the closest to what I think of as Superman. What they got right: Bitsie Tulloch might be the best Lois of all time. I love how cool but kind she was to Clark at their first meeting. She seems like a great mom and a great partner. Very contemplative, thoughtful, planful. Tyler was really solid. I’ve enjoyed his Clark/Superman in the crossovers and was wondering if he could pull it off here. His Clark is exactly how 90’s comics Clark is. A little clumsy yet confident, cool but nerdy in a sweet way, loves Lois but is chill about it. Great emotional scenes and really surprised me as a powerful yet relatable Superman It was more cinematic, serious and less cheesy than previous Arrowverse shows. Tonaly it seemed completely different than Supergirl. Real visual fx shots, wires and rigs not just cgi. Twins were good. I didn’t think I’d care about their scenes but I did. Even though the switcheroo on the powers was kinda telegraphed, I still liked it. Smallville as kind of a rundown town and not just a perfectly preserved 1950’s hometown I didn’t think I would like it, but Sam Lane as an ally who knows the secret was cool. At odds with Lois, but not with Clark. Different. LOVE Clark’s vulnerability. What they got wrong or what I hope will get better: I missed the hustle and bustle of the Daily Planet with Perry and Jimmy, but I get what they’re doing. The beginning though, just seemed like a high rise call center. Not so much a bullpen. It was weird to me when Lois tells Clark he had to stay home and not be Superman, but it worked for the moment. I prefer my Clark to have parents who are alive. But let’s see where this goes. Cutting to Clark getting fired and not seeing the scene was weird. Lana isn’t really working for me yet, and I know he’s a heel but the husband just seems too unlikeable. Let’s see. It’s not Lana Lang. It’s a different character. Kinda like Mechad Brooks on Supergirl. I’m concerned that Morgan Edge will just be a stand-in for Luthor...The whole bank/Lana thing just seemed dumb. The router up high so they could set up the accident was ridiculous! How and why would Martha have done that? The music, or lack of it. It wasn’t as inspiring as I had hoped, and there was no theme. I hear that’s coming next week but I want my Superman to start with a rousing theme that can also be played during heroics. How OLD are Lois and Clark? When Crisis reset and their babies became twin teens did the grownups age up too? I would’ve preferred Clark telling the twins the secret before they busted him. Even if they had the same reaction. Have they never seen their dad without glasses? The sliding scale of powers/vulnerability to Kryptonite. How was he able to just pull the kryptonite out? Superman Reference/Easter Eggs that I caught" Action #1/Fleisher homage “My mom made it for me” (For All Seasons) Superman lifting ice was the same shot as Superman Returns with kryptonite land mass. And using an iceberg is from Superman III Donner, Siegel/Shuster 1938 on the blackboard Steve Lombard Foswell Injustice 2 Jordan is Jor El Doc Fry (Superman The Movie, Pa’s dr.) They and her son Adam exit the movies while a shadowy figure on the rooftops tails them (as well as an undercover cop acting as extra protection). Despite Jose's protests, Cat opts to take a shortcut through a dark alley where they are ambushed by an invisible assailant. Jose manages to dispatch the assailant while the shadowy figure is revealed to be Superman himself. Who interrogates this so called “Blindspot” and warns him to leave Cat Grant alone. Meanwhile at the morgue, Police Inspector Henderson is informed of the body of a woman (Amanda McCoy but they don't know that) that was found battered and beaten and left for 2 weeks. Henderson is disgusted that something like this could happen outside of suicide slum, and worries that Metropolis is going the way of Gotham, where we cut to to find a statement by Commissioner Gordon that violent Crime is on the rise in Gotham. The Batman comes across a homeless man being mugged and steps in, stopping the crook but unfortunately the homeless man is dead from a heart attack. Inside the homeless mans box, Batman discovers a ring with a green radioactive gem that seems to glow... Meanwhile at Lexcorp, Luthor is furious to find that his kryptonite ring has been stolen right from under his nose, while Intergang plan the next attack on Cat Grant and decide to get Superman out of the way by baiting him with Lois Lane and Clark Kent. They make plans to attack the upcoming Journalists banquet which is being hosted by Luthor. Batman studies the ring in his batcave and has tracked it back to Metropolis, where he decides to attend the journalist banquet he was invited to so he can meet with Clark Kent (they know each others identities at this point) since he will be working in his city. Meanwhile Superman flies to his fortress in the Antarctic and fixes the damage done by the Eradicator, rebuilding the statue to his kryptonian parents. He then flies back to Metropolis to meet Lois Lane for a date as Clark Kent. (Written by Connor-El) Adventures of Superman #467 (Dark Knight Over Metropolis, Part Two: Taken to the Grave) After his date with Lois Clark finds a note left by Batman in his apartment requesting that they talk, Superman flies through Metropolis pondering what trouble is happening in his city that Batman himself has appeared. Batman meanwhile is breaking into the morgue where a Jane Doe (McCoys body) is held as it has slight radiation poisoning and Batman suspects she held the ring before the homeless man. During his examination he is caught by a cop who says they don't tolerate his kind in Metropolis. Batman says the law takes too much time then asks the officer what he is going to do exactly to stop him, shoot him in the back? Then walks away. Superman heres the alarms from the morgue going off and flies over, seeing a shadowy figure on a rooftop on the way, he confronts them. It turns out to be Jose Delgado in his Gangbuster attire, watching Cat Grants apartment from the rooftop. Superman and Gangbuster then talk where Superman compliments him but they reminisce all the times he's been dangerously injured. Batman then shows up and says if Gangbuster couldn't stand the heat, he wouldn't be there. Batman then says he needs to talk to Superman alone, and they depart with Gangbuster reflecting on Batman being just a normal guy like him. Jose is then ambushed by two villains from intergang; Chiller, who can take other peoples forms and disguises himself as Cat Grant, as Shockwave brings down the roof beneath him and knocks out Delgado, capturing him and taking him out of the picture. Meanwhile batman informs him of his investigation, and shows Superman a picture of the body whom he identifies as the woman who cornered him and revealed his identity. He informs batman that the ring she used can kill him and has every reason to believe Luthor is mixed up in all this. Batman doesn't tell Superman he has the ring as he thinks it might come in handy, they then head to Lexcorp together and break in, despite Supermans grumblings about breaking and entering, which Batman points out will be much more effective than Superman trying to intimidate Luthor into giving him what he wants. Superman shorts out all the cameras with his heat vision and they hack into a computer near Luthors vault. They discover that the woman is Amanda McCoy and they find her address, while Superman worries if Luthor knows who he really is. They then leave before Luthors guards arrive and make a plan to go to his banquet, then McCoys address. At the Banquet Clark, Lois and Bruce are socialising when Luthor shows up and meets Bruce for the first time. Lex brings up how Clark saved his life when intergang attacked a few months ago, and speak of the devil Intergang arrive again and start trashing the banquet, killing people indiscriminately while looking for Clark and Lois. Lex pushes Clark out of the way of incoming fire and tells him to consider his debt repaid. Clark heats up the pool with his heat vision to create enough steam for him to change into Superman, and Bruce also changes into batman. Superman and Batman take care of Intergang and realise it was a diversion and that they must have Cat Grant, so they both set off to find her. Chill has kidnapped Cat Grant disguised as Jose Delgado, and Shockwave gets the order to execute Delgado and make it look like an accident, he then causes the building to fall on them. (Written by Rey-Zod) Action Comics #654 (Dark Knight Over Metropolis, Part Three: Deadly Covenant) After the abduction of Cat Grant, both Superman and Batman scour the city only to come across the sounds of a crumbling building not far away. Superman tends to the wreckage whilst Batman chooses to check out Grant’s apartment for clues to her whereabouts. Superman is momentarily stricken with horror as he finds Delgado, aka Gangbusters, head gear amongst the debris, but Delgado proves to be a hard man to kill and Superman is relieved to see him alive and well up high in the adjacent building’s fire escape. Delgado recalls his narrow escape but the two are suddenly distracted with the assassin, Shockwave’s appearance as he stumbles out of the debris. Shockwave is adamant to finish the job he was contracted to, but he faces a blue and red wall in the form of the Man of Steel. Meanwhile, Chiller (the assassin who abducted Grant using his skill of disguise) brings his hostage to an outlaying industrial park, where Dr Moon and his cohorts have set up shop. Dr Moon has been employed by Intergang to facilitate a brainwashing of Cat Grant, in order for her to provide a favourable testimony to Morgan Edge’s court case. Brainwashing is in fact not the correct term, with Dr. Moon preferring the term, ‘re-programming’. Both Chiller and Dr. Moon conspire behind the Intergang members’ backs after a slight altercation concerning recent events. Dr. Moon convinces Chiller to put up with Intergang’s idiosyncracies but before anything else could be said, both Batman and Superman crash onto the scene. Whilst the legendary duo stave off the Intergang thugs, Dr. Moon persists with his plan to re-program Cat Grant. Fortunately, Gangbuster appears and knocks Dr. Moon out before any damage can be done to the shaken Grant. Intergang briefly gain the upper hand with Superman, but ultimately the caped heroes prove too much for them. Gillespie and Mannheim (two of Intergang’s big wigs) monitor the situation via a camera feed and concede that Morgan Edge is beyond help. Whilst Gangbuster and Superman are left to clean up the scene, it’s not long before Batman’s disappearance is noticed. Leaving a note pinned to the unconscious Dr. Moon cryptically leading Superman on, Superman flies off to catch up with the Dark Knight. His travels lead the two to Amanda McCoy’s apartment, where her diary explains some previous events and puts some mysteries to rest. She is indeed the unidentifiable corpse, and her involvement with Superman includes the theft of Luthor’s Kryptonite ring, the danger of Superman’s secret identity getting out, and his encounter with her in the cemetery. Batman reveals he has the Kryptonite ring, gives it to Superman, and recommends that Superman should take the evidence from Amanda’s apartment, which exposes him as Clark Kent. As time goes by, Edge’s court case ends in a guilty conviction and the mystery of the unidentified dead woman is revealed as Amanda McCoy. Back at Wayne mansion, Bruce is greeted by a visit with Superman. Having invited himself to the Batcave, Superman opens up on the respect he has for the Dark Knight and bestows upon him the honour of safe guarding the Kryptonite ring...as he states, “I Want the Means to stop me, to be in the hands of a man I can trust with my life” The music for this episode contains excerpts from various songs and is copyrighted by Styzmask. Meanwhile the natives of Systus 2 wonder if they are free, to which Brainiac responds with a violent blast from his skullship, scattering the survivors. Brainiac carries a paralysed Superman inside his ship, explaining that he and his ship are now one as he inserts himself to the master hub and starts analyzing Superman. He explains his vision before the big bang, that he saw a giant hand reaching toward him and Superman's face, making Superman his angel of Death, destined to destroy him. After Brainiacs Analysis he slides his fingers into the central computer and begins to kill Superman with his power. However as he does this, the natives of Systus 2 launch Plasma missiles at Brainiacs ship. While Brainiac devotes some energy to dealing with the attackers, Superman takes advantage and slips away, albeit still without his powers. Brainiac notices and his ships interior defence systems start trying to stop Superman. As Brainiac is distracted however 2 missiles pierce the hull of his ship. Enrage Brainiac brutally retaliates and destroys the planet. He then shows this to the natives he had abducted previously, and tells them to prepare for battle. Superman meanwhile, has to use his wits to survive, after some close calls he eventually triumphs over Brainiacs defences, steals his shuttle and escapes from the skull ship. Brainiac sees this and gives chase, they race through an asteroid field where Superman eventually crashes into one. Much to Brainiacs horror however, Superman emerges his powers restored. Superman engages Brainiacs ship as the tentacles shoot out to stop him. During Superman's fight with them, Brainiac launches another homing Red Sun torpedo. Superman has no choice but to try escape it, and after flying through space with the torpedo continuously gaining he makes a desperate gamble and flies into the heart of a yellow sun, whereupon the torpedo disintegrates. He returns to find Brainiac gone, warped so far not even his telescopic vision can pick him up. No doubt to recoup and plan his next attack. Superman then returns to metropolis, to work and the life of Clark Kent, while he worries that he alone may not be able to stop Brainiac. Meanwhile, in a distant star system Brainaic's Skull ship looms over a decimated planet. He has destroyed 2 planets and taken all his warriors. He has armed himself fully, and re-evaluated his strategy. This time, he says, Superman will be destroyed. Showdown! Superman sits on his central computer in the fortress of solitude trying to get data on the new Brainiac. He gets up a schematic of Brainiac and discovers he is made of living Metal, before the computer crashed. Superman leaves the fortress in frustration, going to his apartment to get some R&R as Clark Kent, when he is called into work by his boss Morgan Edge. After spotting Brainiacs skullship with his telescopic vision however, he snaps at Edge and flies off to the Justice League watchtower to get help against Brainiac. He enters amidst Wally West (Kid Flash) asking Barry Allen Flash advice on whether to continue being a teen titan or stay in school. Superman informs them of Brainaic's arrival and his need for help, while the rest of the Justice League is summoned Wally offers the help of the Teen Titans, which Superman gratefully accepts. Several minutes later, the whole JLA and Teen Titans are assembled, and start discussing a plan when Brainiacs ship is spotted over New York City. Brainiac starts deploying the armies he collected, all mind controlled and using his technology. The JLA and Teen Titans go swiftly to New York and engage the armies in battle. As the battle rages cyborg states they need to go after Brainiac himself, Star Fire attempts this and attacks Brainiac's ship but is knocked back and stunned by his forcefield, with Red Tornado catching her. Superman meanwhile, agrees with Cyborg but is being chased by a few of Brainiac's soldiers, who are all outfitted with Red Sun lazers weaponised into lethal force. In addition, Brainiac has outfitted his soldiers with gear that leeches off Superman's powers, temporarily powering them before disintegrating them, which Superman only realises after trying to lose them by digging through a mountain and seeing them disintegrate. Superman flies to his fortress to try and find an answer on how to defeat Brainiac but his computer is still fried. He realises that the last time it stopped working was due to high sunspot activity which plays havoc with electronic devices. Meanwhile the battle in between the JLA, the Titans and Brainiac's armies rages on, but they are outnumbered and the Flash is wounded. Superman flies up into space, and Brainiac gives pursuit figuring Superman has come up with some plan. Superman is indeed trying to bait brainiac into following him to the sun, but Brainiac hits Superman with his powerful tractor beams. Superman realizes Brainiac is putting all of his power into the beams, so flies towards the planning to break through the hull, forcing Brainiac to stop the beams and put up his forcefield. Superman bounces off it and flies toward the sun, Brainiac following and not understanding Supermans plan. As Brainiac's ship draws to the surface of the sun, Superman creates great winds to cool the surface and create the effects of Sunspots. Brainiac starts losing power and shutting down, but suddenly he uses his backup power to go into Hyperspace and escape, all too quick for Superman to stop him. With Brainiac gone, the warriors return to their senses and Superman promises to find them a new planet to live on. Superman and Wonder Woman then look into the sky, hoping that when Brainiac returns, they will be ready. Emmy-Winner Michael Emerson Boards Arrow for S6 (Date: 22 July 2017) a. Emmy Award-winner Michael Emerson has joined the cast of Arrow for the series' sixth season, as revealed at a panel for the DC Comics-based series at Comic-Con International in San Diego. The Lost alum will board the series in a recurring capacity; he will play a member of a villainous cabal. Additionally, it was confirmed David Nykl (who plays Oliver Queen's friend/mentor/nemesis, Anatoly Knyazev) will return to the series. b. http://www.cbr.com/michael-emerson-cast-arrow-season-6/ 2. Arrow Showrunner Addresses Olicity In Season 6 (Date: 24 July 2017) a. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim said during an interview at Comic Con International with Comicbook, “I'm going to give a very unsatisfying answer to the Olicity fans, which is that we sort of set Oliver and Felicity on a certain trajectory starting with 520, and you saw a little bit of it in 523. We're continuing it. I will say that the events of the finale did throw a little bit of a wrench into their slow rekindling of their relationship.” b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/24/arrow-olicity-season-6/ 3. Spoiler Room: Scoop on Game of Thrones, Arrow, Westworld, and more (Date: 20 July 2017) a. Do you have any scoop on the new villain (or villains) on Arrow next season? — Here's a little teaser: “As usual, every season we want to try to up the stakes and do something different,” EP Wendy Mericle tells me. “This will be something we've never seen before. The villain will be hopefully as dynamic and as interesting as the ones we've had in the past. These people, or this person, won't just be somebody that's a thorn in Oliver's side, but it'll effect the whole team personally and very directly.” Could Cayden James and Helix be the culprits she speaks of? “You never know,” Mericle says. “They are still in the wind. We don't like to leave those threads dangling.” b. http://ew.com/tv/2017/07/20/spoiler-room-game-thrones-arrow-westworld/ 4. One Fan-Favorite Arrow Character Will Receive Flashbacks In Season 6 (Date: 26 July 2017) a. Marc Guggenheim has revealed that a fan-favorite character will receive flashbacks for the very first time in Season 6. In an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, Guggenheim had this to say about Season 6, “You're gonna still see flashbacks. It won't be every episode and it won't be serialized. They'll be character specific and I'll give you one example... as you saw in the trailer Manu Bennett is back for the season premiere and he's also coming back for a special two-part episode in the first half of the season where we're really going to be focusing hard on his character, post everything he's experienced on the show and we intend to do a Slade Wilson flashback story.” b. http://www.cinemablend.com/television/1685200/one-fan-favorite-arrow-character-will-receive-flashbacks-in-season-6 5. ARROW Season 6 SDCC '17 Trailer Finds Oliver Queen In A Brand New Role (Date: 22 July 2017) a. The Arrow season 6 trailer reveals that Slade made it off Lian Yu before Prometheus' trap could blast him to smithereens. But what about Diggle, Felicity and the rest of Team Arrow? There's was no sign of any of the regulars Arrow fans have come to know and love over the course of five seasons. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/arrow/arrow-season-6-sdcc-17-trailer-finds-oliver-queen-in-a-brand-new-role-a152758 6. Arrow Showrunner Says Richard Dragon Will Be Grounded Crime Lord (Date: 25 July 2017) a. Richard Dragon, one of the last major Green Arrow villains yet to appear on Arrow, is coming in season six -- and he will be different from the series' other big bads, according to series executive producer Marc Guggenheim. "You know, what I really like about our interpretation of Richard is, he's very grounded," Guggenheim said. "He's not a flamboyant big bad, he doesn't wear a costume, he really is a crimelord sort of in the Tobias Church model. For Tobias we only really saw him for about five episodes, so we were excited about th prospect of doing a cool, gritty crime lord, but for a longer period of time. We've never really done that on the show before, so it's different." b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/25/arrow-showrunner-says-richard-dragon-will-be-grounded-crime-lord/ GENERAL DC TV NEWS 1. Legends of Tomorrow: Sara's Season 3 Love Interest is a New Character (Date: 25 July 2017) a. Love is in the air for Waverider captain Sara Lance. When the character returns in Legends of Tomorrow Season 3, she will find herself embroiled in a new romance. On Twitter, executive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed that this romance will be with a new character. Guggenheim and fellow executive producer Phil Klemmer revealed that Sara will get a new love interest at Comic-Con International's Legends of Tomorrow panel. “It's definitely time for Sara to settle down, or at least have a relationship that's more than a roll in the hay. It's hard when you're travelling through time,” Klemmer announced. “It's definitely been a priority of ours to re-establish Sara's bisexuality in Season 3,” Guggenheim added. “It's a big, important thing for us this year.” b. http://www.cbr.com/legends-of-tomorrow-sara-love-interest-new-character/ 2. The Flash: Tom Felton not returning as series regular (Date 25 July 2017) a. At the close of season 3, Julian was still a member of Team Flash, but with Barry now trapped in the Speed Force, and the show jumping ahead at least six months, it appears that Julian has left the team. The character was missing from the new season 4 footage in the recently released trailer, which was shown at Comic-Con, an event the Harry Potter alum also didn't attend. As of yet, Felton has not booked a return to the show, but as with all actors in the Berlanti-verse, there's a chance we could see Felton again if it makes sense for the story and his scheduling permits it. b. http://ew.com/tv/2017/07/25/flash-tom-felton-not-returning-season-4/?utm_campaign=entertainmentweekly&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&xid=entertainment-weekly_socialflow_twitter 3. THE FLASH Season 4 Casts The Thinker; Danny Trejo And More Join As Key DC Comics Characters (Date 23 July 2017) a. Neil Sandilands (The 100) is set to take on the role of Clifford Devoe/The Thinker, a metahuman with a mega mind who embarks on a season-long battle with The Flash that pits the "fastest man alive" against the "fastest mind alive." Danny Trejo (Machete) is Breacher, a feared bounty hunter from Earth-19 and the imposing father of inter-dimensional bounty hunter Gypsy. His mission is to prevent any inter-dimensional traveller from threatening life on his planet — especially his daughter's. Kim Engelbrecht (Dominion) is The Mechanic, a highly intelligent engineer who designs devices for Devoe. As Devoe's right hand, she's the truest of true believers who'll stop at nothing to help him implement his plan to fix humanity. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/the_flash/the-flash-season-4-casts-the-thinker-danny-trejo-and-more-join-as-key-dc-comics-characters-a152752 4. The Flash Gets a New Suit in Season 4 Set Photo (Date 29 July 2017) a. Set photos captured by YVRShoots.com show Gustin on set during July 28th, wearing what appears to be a new Flash suit. This comes after Gustin shared a photo of part of the suit on Instagram, and spoke about his desire for a new costume during an interview with ComicBook.com at San Diego Comic-Con. Interestingly, the suit is appears to be almost identical to the suit worn by the 2024 version of Barry Allen, which was briefly seen in last season's 'The Once and Future Flash'. b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/29/the-flash-season-4-new-suit-barry-allen-grant-gustin/ 5. SUPERGIRL Season 3 Trailer Released; Calista Flockhart Set To Recur & Four New Cast Additions Announced (Date 22 July 2017) a. The CW has confirmed that Calista Flockhart will return for Supergirl season three and it sounds like she'll be popping in a lot more frequently this time around as she's secured recurring status. She'll first appear in the season premiere on October 9. Additionally, Adrian Pasdar, Carl Lumbly, Yael Grobglas, and Emma Tremblay have all joined the cast. Pasdar will play Morgan Edge, a ruthless real estate developer who will find himself at odds with Lena Luthor. Lumbly will play J'onn's father M'yrnn J'onzz, a pacifist religious leader on Mars. Grobglas will play Psi, a psychic villain who uses people's minds against them. Tremblay will play Ruby, a smart kid who's fascination with Supergirl lands her in serious trouble. The official season three trailer gives us our first look at Odette Annable as Reign and Erica Durance as Alura Zor-El. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/supergirl/supergirl-season-3-trailer-released-calista-flockhart-set-to-recur-four-new-cast-additions-announced-a152739 6. LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Season 3 Trailer Released; Both Captain Cold & Damien Darhk Will Return (Date 22 July 2017) a. The CW announced today that both Wentworth Miller and Neal McDonough will reprise their roles as Captain Cold and Damien Darhk, respectively, on the upcoming third season of DC's Legends of Tomorrow. Miller will actually return in a recurring capacity, but he won't exactly be the Leonard Snart we came to know and love in seasons one and two. He'll instead be playing a brand new version of fan-favorite character, which should lead to some interesting interactions between him and Mick. During the panel, executive producer Phil Klemmer teased, “Mick Rory needs his pal, but unfortunately he's not going to get the version of his pal that he remembers.” Meanwhile, McDonough will be upped to a series regular and will also come with his own, more dangerous, changes. "We'll be meeting a new version of Damien Darhk, a little less silly, a little more formidable." Arthur Darvill will also be back as Rip Hunter, but in a recurring role, and it sounds like he'll be coming into conflict with his former teammates. “Last season, the Legends were the only game in town,” Klemmer said. “Now they're competing with the best and brightest. Rip Hunter has reconstituted what the Time Masters were, so the existential question for the Legends is where do we fit into this universe?” As for new additions, a new villain will arise in the form of Kuasa, Vixen's granddaughter. Tala Ashe will also join the Waverider crew as Zari Adrianna Tomaz, a Muslim-American woman from 2030. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/legends_of_tomorrow/legends-of-tomorrow-season-3-trailer-released-both-captain-cold-damien-darhk-will-return-a152743 7. Spoiler Room: Scoop on Supergirl, Once Upon a Time, Defenders, and more (Date 27 July 2017) a. Is there any chance Alura is actually still alive on Supergirl? — With Erica Durance joining the show in a recast of Alura, EW pressed new showrunners Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner for answers at Comic-Con. “Shrouded in mystery, those questions,” Queller said coyly. Rovner added: “We wanted to keep Alura's presence on the show because it really connects Kara to Krypton and her roots and what it meant to see her family and her planet destroyed. It's an emotional grounding that's always important.” However, there's a good chance Mon-El ended up in the Phantom Zone — you know, the same Kryptonian prison that Alura had a hand in sending criminals to, so what if she escaped the destruction of Krypton and ended up there herself? Another dodge from the EPs: “Where Mon-El is and how he comes back is the central mystery of our season,” Queller said. “But the theme of this season is what does it mean to be human? Kara is going to be especially grappling with that, and all of the characters are. The loss of her family and Krypton impacts that a lot. The mother-daughter relationship is something we still want to explore in whatever fashion.” b. http://ew.com/tv/2017/07/27/spoiler-room-supergirl-once-upon-time-defenders/ 8. THE FLASH Star Grant Gustin Says It's The Show's Goal To Adapt CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS (Date 25 July 2017) a. Speaking to ComicBook at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, Grant Gustin confirmed that while it's still a long time from happening, it's been the goal to eventually adapt Crisis on Infinite Earths on the show . "We don't really talk about it on a yearly basis but it was mentioned early on and that's a goal. Obviously we'd have to go I think ten years to reach that, so there's a possibility for sure. It'll be fun to get there." The massive multiverse event saw the collapse of multiple parallel universes, along with the "death" of The Flash himself. The story has been hinted at since the pilot episode of the show, where the Reverse Flash views a newspaper headline from the future stating that The Flash has "vanished in a crisis". Showrunner Todd Helbing also spoke to CB about the upcoming season 4, which he promised will be "fun" again after the "doom and gloom" of season 3. "Last year, once we showed Iris die in the future, to keep up that doom and gloom, it becomes a burden, and not just on us writing-wise, on the show and it just sort of had this pall over the season that I think we didn't expect to be so heavy;” there is “a conscious effort of ours to really go back to everybody enjoyed being on this team and with each other, and make The Flash have fun again.” b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/the_flash/the-flash-star-grant-gustin-says-its-the-shows-goal-to-adapt-crisis-on-infinite-earths-a152832 9. THE FLASH Is Reborn In The Official Comic-Con Trailer For The Upcoming Fourth Season (Date 22 July 2017) a. For the first time since the series' inception, a new character is taking on the voiceover and she doesn't sound quite like her usual hopeful self as the months without Barry have taken a serious toll on her. The new trailer also teases new villains, including a very interesting looking Samurai and a few returning faces. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/the_flash/the-flash-is-reborn-in-the-official-comic-con-trailer-for-the-upcoming-fourth-season-a152748 10. The Flash's Grant Gustin Says Speed Force Will Change Barry (Date 25 July 2017) a. “We're not necessarily going to see Barry's experience in the Speed Force. We'll see kind of the effects that the Speed Force has had on Barry, and he's been in there six months real-time,” Gustin started. “I suspect the Speed Force is kind of nonlinear with time, so Barry has experienced his entire life from star to end infinity times over since he's been in there. It's almost like a fresh start for me as an actor.” b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/25/the-flash-speed-force-grant-gustin/ 11. Legends of Tomorrow Announces Tracy Ifeachor as S3 Villain (Date 26 July 2017) a. DC's Legends of Tomorrow will get mighty personal for Vixen in Season 3. During the show's panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego, Kuasa — the sister of Mari McCabe's Vixen — was announced as a villain for the upcoming season. Now, we can put a face to the name. Quantico star Tracy Ifeachor will play the character. Since Kuasa is Mari's sister, that also makes her the granddaughter of Amaya, who is slated to be a main character in Legends Season 3. At SDCC, executive producer Marc Guggenheim confirmed that the two will cross paths at some point this season, saying, “We're looking forward to the inevitable confrontation between Maisie [Richardson-Sellers]'s character and her granddaughter.” b. http://www.cbr.com/legends-of-tomorrow-kuasa-tracy-ifeachor/ 12. The Flash Season 4 Set Photos Show New Female Villain (Date 29 July 2017) a. YVRShoots.com recently shared pictures of The Flash's newest foe, who will reportedly appear the third episode of the season, entitled 'Luck Me a Lady.' In one set of photos, an actress is robbing a bank in a red dress, while other photos show the same actress running after a bus in a rather noteworthy casino outfit. Fans were quick to recognize the casino dealer outfit as that belonging to the DC Comics villain Becky Sharpe, a.k.a. Hazard. Hazard has appeared throughout the DC Comics mythos as a member of the Injustice Society, and was the granddaughter of the original Gambler. The antagonist is bestowed with psionic powers, which allow her to cause good or bad "accidents" to her foes. b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/29/the-flash-set-photos-show-new-female-villain/ ARROW CAST AND CREW INTERVIEWS 1. During a Comic Con Interview with Arrow's leading lady Emily Bett Rickards, we were joined by series regular Echo Kellum, who brought out Rickards's playful side. Rather than trying to finish our interview with Rickards and pull one or both of them back on track, we went with the more entertaining option of egging them on, asking among other things: "Can you tell me more about 'sexy threats?'" b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/28/arrows-emily-bett-rickards-and-echo-kellum-explain-sexy-threats/ NEXT EPISODE Link to Promo: (Date: 08 March 2017) https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/legends_of_tomorrow/legends-of-tomorrow-new-extended-promo-for-season-2-episode-14-moonshot-a149472 Episode: “Moonshot” [Season 2 Episode 14] Air Date: Tuesday, March 14, 2017 Summary: The Legends learn where the last fragment of the Spear of Destiny is hidden when they track Commander Steel to NASA Headquarters in 1970. This is it folks! The penultimate chapter of the Morgan Edge saga! And you cant even tell by the covers! Revealed this episode: The origin of the Morgan Edge clone, the whereabouts of the Outsiders since Habitat was destroyed by the 4-Armed Terror and what Lucy Lane has been up to now that she is no longer attached to Jimmy Olsen (hint: she isnt Superwoman).

Greetings and salutations gang! Today, I am proud to present Episode 22, part 1 in my review of The Morgan Edge Story, or an excuse to go back and look at Jack Kirbys run on Supermans Pal Jimmy Olsen. In this one episode, the Newsboy Legion returns with a +1, we meet the Outsiders (no, not Batmans friends), the Whiz Wagon, Morgan Edge, Inter-Gang, WGBS, the Mountain of Judgement, the Hairies, a subtle Beatles reference and the first appearance of a big baddie, and most of that is in just the first issue!
