Ever wonder how someone can maintain a healthy lifestyle yet still face severe heart issues? Join me as I unpack Mary McDonald's gripping journey through hereditary heart disease, starting with her struggles with high blood pressure. Despite her best efforts to stay healthy, Mary's initial disregard for medical advice led to severe complications, including a wake-up call from foot surgery. This episode underscores the crucial lesson of heeding medical guidance when hereditary caardiac conditions are in play. Through a rollercoaster of diagnoses and treatments, Mary's story takes us deep into the labyrinth of heart disease diagnostics. After facing conflicting advice and even a suggestion to consult a psychiatrist, Mary's persistence led her to explore treatments at Stanford. Her tale of moderate heart valve regurgitation and a myocardial bridge reveals the challenges of being misunderstood by the medical community and the importance of self-advocacy and finding a supportive medical team. Then, travel with Mary to Greece, where she underwent "unroofing" heart surgery and received exemplary care from Dr. Kofidis and Dr. Patakos at Hygia Hospital. Her detailed account compares the medical care in Greece to that in the U.S., offering insights into her recovery journey, including overcoming severe back pain and managing osteoporosis. Ending on a high note, Mary's resilience shines through as she shares her marathon ambitions and renewed passion for flying. This episode is a testament to the power of perseverance, optimism, and self-advocacy in the face of the uncertainty of cardiac health challenges. They rely on their strong commitment to science and evidence-based practice to guide their collaboration.Dr. McDonald references the Ethics Code of Behavior Analysis codes, 2.10, 3.01, and 3.06. 2.10 Collaborating with ColleaguesBehavior analysts collaborate with colleagues from their own and other professions in the best interests of clients and stakeholders. I'm Josh Cooperman and this is Convo By Design. Today, another look back at a fun and fantastic panel conversation from past design celebrations. This one, from La Cienega Design Quarters Legends 2019… This conversation was recorded LIVE at the Circa Lighting showroom on La Cienega Blvd in 2019 . Here was the write up for it in the press materials… As any great designer will tell you, so of the best projects begin by throwing everything you think you know right out the window. Joanna Salz, Editorial Director of House Beautiful, gets three rule-defining designers, @MaryMcDonaldInc  @SuzanneKasler  @AEROStudios to admit some of their biggest challenges, their hardest earned triumphs , and those moments when, against all odds, they created some of their most spectacular work. As someone who creates, produces and moderates panels, I can tell you first hand how hard it can be to try and craft a panel concept that hasn't already been done a thousand times or is just another ho-hum idea. This concept was genius and one that I will try to riff off in the future. It was beautifully done and very well executed. Just for fun, I'm including the talk-up from the original episode. Thank you Mary, Suzanne, Thomas and Joanna. Excellent work. Thank you LCDQ for allowing Convo By Design to present these incredible talks. Thank you CXD sponsors and partners, ThermaSol, Article Furniture, York Wallcoverings, Moya Living and Franz Viegener for your continued support. In one hand was clasped a transfer."Throughout 1904, a series of assaults and murders would make headlines in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Cumminsville. There, in the area surrounding Spring Grove Cemetery, a beast of a man preyed upon vulnerable women traveling at night. Three women would fall prey to the killer - Mary McDonald, Lulu Mueller, and Alma Steinway - but dozens of others would report close calls or run-ins with the ripper, who seemed to commit his crimes within close proximity to the area's rail lines...The map of the locations described in this episode can be viewed at the following Google Earth link. Social Media : Learn from the Experts Episode 097 with Marty McDonald of Bad Rhino Social Media Marty has used social media strategies to actively recruit and build marketing business for over 18 years. He quickly realized the power of Digital Marketing in Recruitment Marketing and Business. Since 2002, Marty has consulted with small businesses and startups to help them succeed online. Marty is the Author of Great Beer is Not Enough and host of The Taps and Tees Pod Marty leads the day to day strategy of Bad Rhino’s Operations and Sales Strategies as well as Client strategies for Craft Beer, E-commerce and Golf Brands cast. Bad Rhino is a digital marketing agency born out of an idea. What that idea was, is keeping things as simple as possible in a complex internet world. Digital Marketing gets complex. It’s cumbersome, it’s time consuming to do it right, and then all of a sudden you have to lump a new strategy in there, and then Facebook or Google decides to change the strategy. When we started this company, we had a couple of different things that we wanted to make sure we bring to the forefront and one of them is real results. Listen to this information-packed BizSoup Podcast Radio episode with Mary McDonald about learning social media marketing from the experts. Talking include: ●   Why people have to start with a plan, they can’t just “post and pray.” ●   How people should do multiple tests and then go with what works. ●   Why people should use the 100-year-old : get the word out, get them interested, and close the deal. ●   How today’s customer is savvier than ever before.   Connect with Marty Website banrhinoinc.com Facebook facebook.com/BadRhinoInc LinkedIn linkedin.com/in/martinmcdonald Instagram @martymac1 Learn more about your ad choices. Martyn Lawrence Bullard steps Behind The Rope. Martyn fills us in on what he has been up to since we last saw him on our TV Screens on Bravo's Million Dollar Decorators. By age twelve, he was using his allowance money to buy various objects at the local London flea market which he would later arrange and make look pretty. With dreams of becoming a movie star, prior to his design career, Martyn moved to sunny Los Angeles approximately thirty years ago. His first big break in design came from sitting next to Original Supermodel Cheryl Tiegs at a wedding. By the end of the wedding she had hired him to decorate her house and, from there, his design business started to take off. Martyn Lawrence Bullard Design was born. Martyn chats with us about his “Design Style” and his Design “Dos” and Dont’s”. We also chat about how Martyn was cast on Bravo’s classic “Million Dollar Decorators” and his relationships with his co-stars Mary McDonald, Kathryn Ireland, and Jeffrey Alan Marks. He also talks about that time he was a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race. Speaking of RuPaul, Martyn is currently decorating Ru’s home. Do tell. He does. Martyn also chats about some of his other Celebrity Clients, and their design styles, such as Cher, Kylie Jenner (whose Architectural Digest Cover was the highest ranked Design Story of all time, 1.6 Billion and Counting), Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, The Osbournes Sharon, Ozzy and Kelly, Gwen Stefani, and Cindy Crawford. @martynbullard@behindvelvetrope@davidyontefBonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetropeThis episode is brought to you by Duke Cannon. This conversation, Clutter Can Be Cool, was moderated by Introspective Magazine Editorial Director, Anthony Freund and features an all-star cast of creatives including Thomas Jane, Kerry Joyce, Tom Stringer and Mary McDonald. The panel is called Clutter Can Be Cool and you will hear a certain amount of displeasure launched at Marie Kondo. And I understand. I think Kondo’s organizational techniques and ideas have been helpful to so many, at the same time, I do understand why so many in the design community take issue with her philosophy. Listen for a great point made by Freund about Kondo’s ideas regarding minimizing the number of books one collects yet she is an author. Design is personal, design is experiential and those who love to be surrounded by things don’t want to be told that to be happy, you must limit the number of things in your life. This is a great chat about stuff and things. The type of things that make for extraordinary design. To the best of my abilities, as design enthusiast, I can’t imagine design without things. At the same time, there is beauty in the ‘edit’. Please follow the show on iTunes, YouTube and through social media. I’ll let the experts take it from here.
