"It was... fun." Star Trek: Generations turns 30 (!) years old this week (on Nov. 18) and Scott and Phil can't believe that or the fact that we didn't mark the occasion by doing our usual joke/reference to Checkov and Kirk's "No, you were younger" exchange. But what we did do was mine the memory banks to repost our fascinating Generations commentary track, recorded with our good friend Matt Fowler. Here, we break down the making of the first Star Trek: The Next Generation movie and the first encounter between Captains Kirk and Picard.Speaking of Captain Kirk, we also passionately weigh in on Jim Kirk's resurrection-ish in the new "Unification" short film. Also, we celebrate the career and life of another Star Trek great that recently passed away, Tony Todd.

From the outset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the British Government made it clear that a baseline level of mortality from Covid was being “priced in” to its decision making: on March 12th 2020, Boris Johnson stopped short of ordering the sort of lockdowns seen in other countries and warned that, “many more families are going to lose loved ones before their time.” This approach belied a series of value judgements and trade-offs where people's lives were set against other values, such as personal liberty and the economy. We walked past the London Eye, looking so huge from the ground, and then under the Westminster Bridge through to the “Wall of Hearts.' Painted on the wall that surrounds St. Thomas's Hospital it faces the river and the Houses of Parliament. Organized by Matt Fowler, whose father died from the virus, each heart is for another death. To date 149,000 lives have been lost in the United Kingdom. The 150,000 hearts already painted will be used up soon enough as family members continue to come and write, commemorating the names of their beloveds in all the languages that make up this country.

With Phil still away on Risa, special guest host Matt Fowler -- yes, THE Matt Fowler -- takes Phil's seat for the week, bringing his casual, normal person's amount of Star Trek knowledge to Transporter Room 3! This is a special episode recorded LIVE from Digital Shop Talk Conference 2020. We feature all of our breakout speaker guests (Fred Gestwicki Jr., Frank Scandura, John Long, Neil Daly, Devin Kelley, Doug Brackett, Matt Fowler, Jamey Whitlock, and more!) as well as turning the tables a bit by having Uwe up on stage to interview Tom.
Digital Shop Conference 2020 will be here in no time, so we thought we would give you a taste of what you can expect to see at this year's conference. We will have Fred Gestwicki, Jamey Whitlock, Matt Fowler, Russ Crosby and more on to talk about their previous experience at Digital Shop Conference and what they will be talking about at this year's show. Digital Shop Conference will be held from January 9-11 in Marina Del Rey, Calif. and will feature collaborative breakout sessions by other shop owners and their staff. For more information on Digital shop conference, visit www.autovitals.com/conference
In talking to successful shop owners and their staff over the years, one of the most common traits we have discovered among them is the ability to recognize their weaknesses and the passion for getting better at their craft. In this week's episode, we talk to three highly-successful shops which are self-admittedly weak at the pickup touchpoint. We welcome back Matt Fowler, Jamey Whitlock and Doug Brackett on the show while we follow their journey over the course of the next few months to transform their process at pickup and see the results in the KPIs. This week, along with AutoVitals trainer Bill Connor, we will talk about their current process and what goals they hope to reach by using a more improved process. We will check back in on Nov. 20th to see how they are doing and what changes they have implemented.
From time to time, every shop will have hurdles to overcome, but it's up to you to decide how you'll proceed. Will you stop and give up? Or will you overcome those hurdles? 10 weeks ago, Jamey Whitlock (Whitlock Automotive) came on the show to share the hurdles his shop faced implementing the Digital Shop process and received great recommendations on how to overcome those hurdles from Matt Fowler and Bill Connor to reach the goals he had set out to achieve. (Watch the previous episode here) This week on Digital ShopTalk Radio, we're getting an inside look at how Jamey has grown as an owner and the outcomes of their new Digital Shop process implementation.

ABOUT 'SPACE WARD' Space Ward is an epic neo-noir audio drama about survivors of a massive space attack... in therapy - like a cross between Mass Effect and In Treatment. Galactic Marine Lieutenant Michael Stone has been charged with heading up the psych ward on the Gallant, a Sapien destroyer, and he doesn't like it. After a terrible attack that nearly destroyed the twelve species of the Galactic Coalition all that is left is a small armada at the edge of space. Tensions are high and the stakes are even higher. Tune in to see what happens in the 'Space Ward'! SUPPORT We've relaunched our Patreon! [Joinee Radio 2007] This was my first ever podcast hosting session on March 22nd 2007. The original host, Matt Fowler started me off on that road and gave me advice which I still call upon to this day, so you have him to thank.
This was my first session after moving to London. I remember mixing it on a grey day in Bethnal Green, so I assume Andie Tickner and I had just taken up residence at City View House. I had just started working at Kiss 100 and was enjoying discovering London’s record shops. From memory, I think was mixed for Matt Fowler as a bit of thank you for letting me stay at theirs until I got sorted with a flat.I debated whether to upload this mix because the mixing’s pretty ropey through the first few tracks (what was I thinking of? must have been smoking while recording...) but, given that this is meant to be a comprehensive archive, the tunes should be allowed an airing for their tenth anniversary! In 1999 Cassisus had released his first album, Defected records were throwing us their first beautifully packaged 12”s and Van Helden hit No. 1 with udon’tknowme.
