MURDERS IN THE FIRST DEGREEMEET THE AUTHOR Podcast: LIVE - Episode 182Originally aired LIVE Wednesday November 13 ,2024Featuring Authors JAMES CALLAN, KELLY MARSHALL & JINX SCHWARTZ.ABOUT JAMES: James R. Callan took a degree in English intent on writing. But when writing did not support a family, he returned to graduate school in mathematics. After graduate school, he worked at a research center for twelve years before he and his wife started a database company, which they ran for twenty-five years. After a successful career in mathematics and computer science, receiving grants from the National Science Foundation and NASA, and being listed in Who's Who in Computer Science and Two Thousand Notable Americans, (and all four of his kids graduated from college and self-supporting), James R. Callan turned to his first love—writing.ABOUT KELLY: I always thought I would communicate in the world as a writer. As a child I was a voracious reader and knew someday I would pen a great novel. Life sometimes takes left turns though, and I went to broadcasting school instead of a four-year college. I wanted to be the next Barbara Walters and make a million a year. That didn't happen, but I did spend thirty years having fun, spinning records, interviewing people, doing love song dedications. I had a ball until…The U.S. Congress passed The Telecommunications Act of 1996 allowing broadcast corporations to own multiple radio stations in one market. The gobbling began and soon behemoth broadcasting corporations ate up radio stations like locusts in a wheat field. And radio announcers like me were axed on bloody Fridays with surgical precision. I was working for a small radio station for chump change. Something had to give. I left radio, went to work for the US Federal Government, and in my private hours, began doing what I really loved. Writing.ABOUT JINX: USA TODAY BEST-SELLING AUTHOR, Jinx Schwartz is a ninth-generation Texan who lived and worked all over the planet before dropping from the corporate world to write and cruise. Living aboard a boat for many years in Mexico's Sea of Cortez inspired her Award-winning Hetta Coffey Series.Links to watch or listen to all episodes at:https://indiebooksource.com/podcast

Message from MBCC Women on September 15, 2022
In this episode of Undivided Birmingham, Dr. Chris Crain interviews Mary Splawn, wife of Senior Pastor Wayne Splawn and Minister of Connections, at Mountain Brook Baptist Church. Mary shares about her call to ministry at the age of 14 years old and the different events in her life that led Mary and her husband, Wayne, to Mountain Brook Baptist Church. Mary and Wayne began serving as youth ministers 14 years ago at MBBC. Wayne Splawn became senior pastor of MBCC in January of 2022. In her role as the pastor's wife and Minister of Connections, Mary works with women's ministries, oversees the gym facility, and produces a church podcast with a Bible reading plan for church members. In her podcast called the Bible Reading Podcast, Mary reads through the church's Bible reading plan each day to equip church members who are auditory learners as well as church members who are just extremely busy and a podcast fits well into their schedules.
We are still at Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2022. In part 2 we have lots of fun talks with people from all over. Then Stefan and Martin sit down and do a little wrap-up of the festival and how we felt about this year. We had a lot of fun and Martin set some new records. Interviews this episode: Eric Trinoskey - Recycled Brewing Joran van Ginderachter - Halfway Crooks Olly Bartlett - Stockholm Brewing
We went to Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2022. It's a hell of festival. While not as a large as past years, this year felt like a rebuilding after the issues of the past two years. Still, it felt like one of the premiere beer festivals of Europe. Martin and Mathias couldn't join so Stefan is assisted by friend of the pod Chantra. We get into lots of beers and lots of interviews. This is part one of two episodes from MBCC. Interviews include: Peter øl - Oy brewing Charlie wood - Crossover Blendery Bob Slack - Pulpit Rock brewing Hannes Grubber - Nerdbrewing
Episode 156 : The Douche Is Back Nick welcomes The @pghbeerdouche (Mike) back to the pod! We start up this episode with talking about beer in the family. Mike turns around the Weekly Re-cap style and asks what I'm drinking! This launches a conversation on the local fare of the season with Marzen/Festbier/Oktoberfest style beers. Mike tells his story of Bolxtoberfest at Old Thunder. Mike got recognized for being the Douche while he was there. After Bloxtoberfest, they went to Inner Groove's Pumpkinfest. Nick re-caps his Sunday adventures before the Steeler game. At Four Points, Sara shared a story about how her mom found a beer recipe from 1924. (This recipe turned out to be a generic “how to brew beer” instead of an actual ingredient based beer.) As the recipe spawned a discussion about “dead beer styles” we obviously talk about Necromancer. This leads us to discuss Brave Noise again and we talk about some of the news of the week around MBCC and Mikkeller beer and their handling of the allegations of misconduct. As we continue the conversation around Brave Noise, we talk about women in craft beer. Mike talks about DG anniversary and our good friends at Bridge City Brinery. Mike has a bone to pick about the BCB pickles. The Douche issues a contest for the Bridge City Brinery food truck. If you order “the Douche” from the truck and finish it (Post it on instagram and tag @pghbeerdouche and @theweeklyrecap), he will get you a 4pk of craft beer! For the rest of the episode we talk about the biggest festival of the fall, @Fueledbyhops_ Drink The Cookie Table! In the close, we talk about Mondays Brewing's First Anniversary over Halloween weekend and talk about Fury closing their doors as of 10/31. Remember to use our code “theweeklyrecap” for 20% off at shop.fueledbyhops.com and cheers! Beers We Drank: Caligula - Dancing Gnome x Alberta's (DIPA - 8.0%) Festbier - Dancing Gnome (Festbier duhhhhh - 4.5%) Nobody's Robot - Dancing Gnome (Anniversary DIPA - 8.0%) Music: All The Way Up - Eddy freemusicarchive.org/music/eddy/2_D…th-CloudBounce
Hop Forward: Getting You Ahead in the Brewing and Beer Business
This week, Nick takes a trip over the Pennines to Manchester to catch up with owner of Windsor based bottle shop and taproom and winner of the SIBA Best Independent Craft Beer Retailer, A Hoppy Place.Recorded live on location at Alphabet Brewery, with a brief stop off at Track Brewing Co for a pint of Sonoma and to admire their floor, Nick and Dave discuss Inbetweenland, an article written by Dave to highlight why and how breweries need to support their local independent bottle shops due to the rise of breweries selling direct to consumers, how the pandemic is still affecting businesses like his and how breweries and bottle shops can work together more harmoniously.Over a couple of fantastic beers from Alphabet Brewery, as in any conversation down the pub, our discussion turned to the hot topic of the day: social media and sharing opinions online about craft beer, life and everything in between. This episode, recorded on location Saturday 9th October 2021, touches upon themes of respectfully considering others opinions and mediating conversations, even when we don't agree with what is being said.It seems like a timely topic given some of the online chat and debate that has been taking place recently surrounding MBCC (though this was recorded prior to the activity taking place this week). To find out more about A Hoppy Place and to read Dave's thoughts on all manner of things, check out their website https://ahoppyplace.co.uk/THIS WEEK'S EPISODE IS SPONSORED BY CRISP MALTSince 1870, Crisp Malt has been producing the finest malt at Great Ryburgh in Norfolk. While our minds think of Lancasters, bouncing bombs and night fighters when we think of Bomber Command in the Second World War, the early years of the bomber offensive were very different. For today's Hedge Hopping sortie, we visit the Michael Beetham Conservation Centre at the RAF Museum Cosford to meet the MBCC's manager Darren Priday to discuss the restoration of two of Bomber Command's early warbirds, the Handley-Page Hampden and the Vickers Wellington. To help us on the journey, we drag Chris Sams out of the Mary Rose to delve into his book Flying into the Storm: RAF Bombers at War 1939-1942 to give us a glimpse into those deadly early missions. You can buy Chris' book through our very own Bookshop! 10% of every sale supports the podcast: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/6252/9781781556177 You can also support the podcast from just £3 a month via our Patreon. In this episode, we tackle a heated debate. Is it science? Marketing? Race or culture? Carrie and Chris are joined by 3 widows who lost their husbands to breast cancer, as well as Dr. Gary Johnson, to offer his perspective. During a recent call hosted by the Male Breast Cancer Coalition, in which Knowles was a guest speaker, he expressed his strong opinion that male breast cancer should be referred to as male CHEST cancer. He claimed that this marketing angle was best to ease the embarrassment of diagnosis, especially in the Black community. An intense discussion ensued and is continued in this podcast with these MBCC members and male breast cancer advocates.#hwcarepodcast #breastnotchest #menhavebreaststoo #menshealth #sciencenotmarketing #malebreastcancercoalition #breastcancer
Kent Ian Paterson a producer at KUNM-FM in Albuquerque, New Mexico talks to Emmy Winner Charlotte Robinson host of OUTTAKE VOICES™ about her early years as a Progressive Rock DJ that kicked off her broadcasting career. Paterson contacted Robinson in August about a history he was compiling at KUNM to celebrate the station’s 54th anniversary. Once it was confirmed she was the same person that worked at KUNM back in the early 1970s the conversations began. When asked how she originally came to the University of New Mexico in 1969 and became involved with KUNM Robinson stated, “I went to UNM because they listed available courses in Radio & TV but when I got there I found out that those classes wouldn’t be offered for a few years. So I answered an ad on KUNM-FM looking for 'chicks to sharpen pencils'. When I applied they suggested I get my FCC license so I did. When I returned with my license they gave me a weekly shift on Thursdays from 1A to 3A. At the time UNM women had a 12 Midnight curfew and men did not. So the ACLU got involved and the curfew was lifted. I guess that was my first experience in the fight for equality.” It was the beginning of the Women’s Movement who adopted Charlotte as a role model because of the ACLU curfew resolve. Paterson added, “You and the other women who were at KUNM 50 years ago were trailblazers. Women became much more prominent at KUNM after the mid 1970s. The station's first female manager served from 1974 to 1976.” We then talked about how Robinson’s KUNM experience led her to her stellar career in broadcasting breaking the glass ceiling for women at WCVB-TV in Boston and then on to ABC, NBC and CBS TV Networks in New York, NY. Charlotte Robinson launched OUTTAKE MEDIA LLC in 2007 and OUTTAKE VOICES™ in 2008 with over 500 podcast episodes that include Alan Ball, Ricky Martin, Senator Tammy Baldwin, Rep Barney Frank, Kyra Sedgwick, Kathleen Turner, John Waters, Dustin Lance Black, Tab Hunter, Sharon Gless, Loni Anderson and comedian Margaret Cho to name a few. Ms. Robinson was honored by the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition with the 2018-2019 MBCC Appreciation Award for providing a voice for hundreds of LGBTQ+ organizations and allies including MBCC. Currently Charlotte has partnered with Nicole Conn Films Global and serves on the Board of Women in Film and Video New England. Kent Ian Paterson is an independent journalist who covers issues in the U.S./Mexico border region. Cheryl Osimo Executive Director of the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition talks with Emmy Winner Charlotte Robinson host of OUTTAKE VOICES™ about their 22nd premier annual fundraising event the "Lesbians and Friends LGBTQ Dance Party For Prevention" that takes place at The Inn at Brookline at 1200 Beacon Street in Brookline, Massachusetts on October 26th from 8P to 12P. This year MBCC is proud to be honoring Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey. Osimo stated, "Attorney General Healey has worked tirelessly for the citizens of Massachusetts across so many important issues. We admire all that she has accomplished and continues to work towards on behalf of her constituents and look forward to honoring her at this year’s event." AG Healey will not be present at the event but will be appearing in a special video presentation to be shown during the evening’s festivities. MBCC will also be recognizing longtime MBCC supporter Laura Diamond owner of Diamond Physical Therapy Associates and Moving Violations Motorcycle Club the oldest women’s motorcycle club in New England. In Massachusetts breast cancer incidence rates are 12% higher than the national average which estimates that 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. However the most commonly cited risk factors, genetic inheritance and lifestyle factors, are present in only 20-30% of breast cancer cases. This leaves 70-80% of cases unexplained. This Catch a Flight with Pauly is a special 2 parter. While in Copenhagen for MBCC with the best breweries in the world all in one place, we figured, "why not interview them?" Since it was a chaotic environment, we wanted to keep it short and simple for each brewer and primarily ask them 2 questions: 1) What beers have they been really digging at the festival and 2) What keeps them creative as a brewer in such a competitive market? We interviewed around 37 different brewers over 2 days, so broke this up into 2 parts.
Ölpodden has been to one of the most renowned beer festivals in the world, “Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen”. In this episode we meet both an old friend of CC's, Rich Burhouse from Magic Rock Brewing Co. and our new friends Jeff Bagby from Bagby Beer Co., Glenn Lewis, Kane Brewing Co. and Bryan Doty from Sour Cellars. Listen to what they have to say about both the festival and their own breweries! Enjoy!
Najpierw wymyśliliśmy żart, a potem przekształciliśmy go w eksperyment socjologiczny. W dzisiejszym odcinku relacja z jednego z najlepszych piwnych festiwali w Europie i na Świecie, czyli z Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen (MBCC) 2018. Dr Fedro Peccatori talks to ecancer at MBCC 15 about the patient’s autonomy, reproductive autonomy and the difficulty of sharing information between physicians. Ultimately, the physician and the patient need to make difficult decisions about how treatment will occur.
Dr Clifford Hudis talks to ecancer at MBCC 15 about triple negative breast cancer and the need to develop subtypes for this specific type of breast cancer in order to develop new targeted therapies. This is already being done with gene expression profiling and an example where it has been successful is with androgen receptors and treating with the prostate cancer drug bicalutamide.
Dr Alan Coates talks to ecancer at MBCC 15 about the various subtypes of breast cancer, such as luminal A, luminbal B, basal and HER , and prognostic test for each of these subtypes.
Dr Christiane Kuhl talks to ecancer at MBCC about how breast cancer MRI appears to be the most promising tool for screening, as opposed to mammography. MRI offers the highest sensitivity of all methods right now and also offers a view into tumour physiology.
Dr Danuta Lichosik talks to ecancer at MBCC 15 about the important role of the operating theatre nurse and the new technologies in the field. This multi-discipline role requires a large amount of training in a wide range of fields, including robotic surgery.
Dr Marci Colleoni talks to ecancer at MBCC 15 in Milan about the threshold for the inclusion of adjuvant chemotherapy in luminal breast cancer. Dr Colleoni discusses trials that will take place in order to determine an answer to this question as well as others regarding adjuvant treatment and recurrence.
Dr Andrea De Censi talks to ecancer at MBCC 15 about selective oestrogen receptor modulators (SERMS) and tamoxifen, as well as a number of phase III double blind trials. Dr De Censi discusses how there are very effective drugs for breast cancer prevention, but the medical community is still largely unaware of this.
