You can tell it is spring when the Ospreys return to the Chesapeake Bay. And you can tell it is summer when Bands in the Sand takes over the beach at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation! We took the opportunity to record this podcast in the Merganser Room at the Foundation while watching the Osprey swoop and dive for food as they rebuild their nests. We also took the chance to look out to where THE party will be held on June 14th! Hilary Harp Falk, the President of CBF, joined me along with Billy Sadtler, the GM of Presenting Sponsor, Annapolis Subaru, to talk about the event, but equally important, the why. Annapolis Subaru has been the Presenting Sponsor since the event's inception, and cimulatively, Bands in the Sand has raised more than $5.5 million to help protect and preserve the Bay we all hold so dearly. Education and advocacy are the names of the game, especially in the current environment. Thousands of children (and adults) take part in learning about the ecosystem and the Bay in general each year. Thousands of hours are volunteered every year to keep up the fantastic work CBF has done for 60 years. And helping is not that hard. Volunteer, become a member, donate, or simply be more mindful at home. But as for that party on June 14th.... headlining is none other than Sister Hazel along with Tony Roy and Yawd Lynk(fantastic reggae band) and perpetual crowd favorite Misspent Youth to close out the night! On top of the entertainment included with your ticket is sand between your toes (and after this winter, we ALL need that), along with unlimited food from the Boatyard Bar & Grill, Caliente Grill, Timber Pizza, The Bell House Catering, and Always Ice Cream. Need an oyster fix? Head to The Choptank's Oyster Reef! And to wash it all down, your selection of water, sodas, beers, wines, and ready-to-drink cocktails from Katcef Brothers! It is truly an all-inclusive evening- even down to the free parking and free shuttle to take you to the beach! With Earth Day coming up, it is a perfect time to secure your tickets and celebrate Earth Day by supporting the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. All tickets purchased prior to May 1st are discounted to $25! But enough of this... Have a listen! We grew up with the Beverly Hills Cop films and were anxiously awaiting the fourth film in the franchise to come out so we could chat about it. Thankfully it was good enough (IN OUR OPINION) to do an episode on it. Get ready for that theme song to be stuck in your head and enjoy our episode on Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F!

Bands in the Sand is THE party of the year, and the beach will be rocking and rolling once again on June 10th. As they have since its inception, Annapolis Subaru returns as the Title Sponsor. A sell-out crowd gathers on the beach each summer, parks their chairs, kicks off their shoes, and supports the Chesapeake Bay Foundation at Bands in the Sand. With live music, local cuisine, and cold drinks, this fundraiser is the best party of the summer and supports CBF's educational programming to, yes--Save The Bay!. Since 2006, this event has raised more than $4 million, and this year is expected to bring that total to more than $5 million. Today, we sit down with Billy Sadtler, the General Manager of Annapolis Subaru, Jessica Rubino (Events and Promotions Manager), and Jocelyn Tuttle (Maryland Student Leadership Coordinator) at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) to talk about the event. From when it is to when you can get your tickets, and yes, who will be headlining this year! Tickets will be available to purchase at 9:00 am: March 1, 2023, for VIP and Committee Members May 1, 2023, for General Admission As to the entertainment, of course, Misspent Youth will take the stage as always. I decided to read Misspent Youth following the first ever rejuvenated human Jeff Baker, as his newfound body affects his life and the life of all those around them.
What do you do when you cut loose from God? How do you live, what guides your decisions? How can you tell right from wrong? And when you think about it, who consciously cuts loose from God. Does anyone say, I don’t care about God, I’m going to dump him? Maybe, but those are generally out on the fringe somewhere. Let me show you a more pertinent example of how it might happen. It’s from Moses’ last sermon to Israel: See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the Lord my God commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to take possession of it. Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say, "Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people." What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to him? And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous decrees and laws as this body of laws I am setting before you today? Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.Deuteronomy 4:5–9 NIV Do you have any idea of how this very idea played out in the founding of this country? We were to be a nation of laws, under the rule of law, not of a king. And don’t kid yourself. The law of Moses underlay everything we built in this country, we just didn’t say so. We have forgotten, and we have not instilled this love of law into our children. If that’s the case, what is the alternative to the rule of law? You can read the First Things article referenced in this program, A Campaign of Narratives, here. You can read Jonathan Roseblum’s piece, Repentance for a Misspent Youth, here.

For your holiday listening enjoyment I have assembled five stories, nay parables to bring enlightenment and edification during these otherwise dark and gloomy months. You may not always agree with the moral, but you will find some (generally me) doing something dumb in all of them. Enjoy!
Misspent Youth: Twi'Lek rebellion in a karked-up future! Play the only kids that can stop some sithhole from turning the galaxy to poodoo. This game series spins off of the Star Wars Impulse Drive game where a group of young Twi'Lek NPCs were introduced. You'll be fleshing out those Twi'Lek or making their close friends. This game is part of the ongoing Star Wars Saturdays anthology series, but new folks are always welcome. The time setting is just before the Empire Strikes Back movie, when the Empire was in control, Jedi were considered extinct, and the rebellion was growing in fits and starts. Characters and settings created in this miniseries will exist in the SWS canon for future miniseries.

Freelance writer and game developer Becky Cunningham (RPGamer, OpenCritic) joins us this week to talk about her early experiences with the Apple ][ and how her love of SF and fantasy literature led to a lifelong relationship with interactive fiction, adventure games, and RPGs, and how she discovered she was genderqueer along the way. She also tells me about her upcoming otome game based on Robin Hood, from the perspective of Made Marian. Also, we talk cowardly paladin love interests, large kitties, the otome renaissance, fiddling with DOS for hours, game critique formats, spousal warcraft warfare stalemates, why FFVIII is a bad first JRPG, and when it's time to let go.Follow Becky on Twitter @BeckyCFreelance, and be sure to get in touch with her if you're an artist who'd be interested in working on her game. This episode of Misspent Youth is dedicated to the memory of Michael A Cunningham, editor in chief of RPGamer, who sadly passed on a few days ago. This week's guest Becky Cunningham, no relation, was a former coworker and a good friend of his. I only interacted with Mac a handful of times online, but he was a passionate and thoughtful individual who will be missed by those who knew him and those who followed his work.Intro Music "Summer Vacation in Scanline" by NurvussIntermission "Beneath the Mask" by Shoji Meguro (from Persona 5)Outro Music "トワイライトでHEART-BEAT" by パフェ♥カフェparfait♥cafe
Game designer and programmer Raven Mulvaney joins Misspent Youth to talk the role Pokémon played as an alternative means of communication in her youth, and how Treasure's Gunstar Super Heroes inspired her to start making her own games. We discuss her numerous projects, including an RPG that teaches Gaelic, and her upcoming Vive game Transition Level which you can play now. Also: How Christine Love's Digital: A Love Story appeals to extremely online introverts, why Naughty Dog can only intersperse queer romance with extreme violence, hopes and anxieties for Fallout `76, and the respectful etiquette of Dark Souls online.Follow Raven on Twitter @ravennoises and itch.io at aka-y.

Misspent Youth is a LGBTIQA+ podcast on video games, why we play, and who we are. In the pilot episode, host Robert Fenner (@misanthrobob) talks about his experiences as an awe-struck toddler Yu Suzuki's arcade oeuvre, before consuming (and being consumed by) Phantasy Star as an early push-back against Midwestern masculine ideals. Later, he discovers Shin Megami Tensei, before falling in love with ZZT and its community as a means of queer expression and acceptance.

Hey everyone, Austin here! As those who watched along via YouTube earlier tonight can tell you, this episode of Live at the Table was something else! For those who couldn't make it, well: Jack, Dre, Andi, and I returned to Marielda to fill in a few of the blank spaces we love to keep around. We played Misspent Youth, a game with serious levels of dramatic tension, that centers on young people fighting back an oppressive system. Set during the one year gap between Marielda's "The Valentine Affair Pt. 4" and "Four Conversations" episodes, we jumped into the boots of some folks whose futures were left up in the air: The young students of the mysterious Yellow House, a school of esoteric and eschatologic studies. And before you ask: Yes, there is a weaver. This was our longest (and maybe my favorite) live episode yet, and because of that length, we need to release it as a two parter. SO: Make sure you're listening to the right episode, otherwise this will not make any sense! And hey, as a reminder... here's what Marielda looks like! Hey everyone, Austin here!
