Kent Blazy is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. His credits include several singles for Garth Brooks, as well as singles by Gary Morris, Diamond Rio, Patty Loveless and Chris Young. He has a total of seven number one hits to his credit. In 1982, Gary Morris took "Headed for a Heartache" to number 5 on the charts. In the years that followed other artists, such as The Forrester Sisters, T. Graham Brown, Donna Fargo and Moe Bandy recorded Kent's tunes. In 1987, Kent was introduced to a new demo singer by Bob Doyle, then with ASCAP, soon to be the manager for this emerging talent, Garth Brooks. Garth became Kent's most requested demo singer and Bob Doyle also advised, “Garth writes a little bit too.” The first song Garth and Kent penned together was "If Tomorrow Never Comes" which became the first number one song for both. The friendship and writing partnership continued as Garth included eight more of their songs on his albums. Four more of theirs songs captured the number one slot: "Somewhere Other Than the Night", "Ain't Goin' Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up)", "It's Midnight Cinderella", and "She's Gonna Make It.” Brooks continued to record Blazy's material throughout the 1990s, including the singles “Cold Shoulder” and the George Jones duet “Beer Run (B Double E Double Are You In?).” He also co-wrote “That's What I Get for Lovin' You” by Diamond Rio and “Can't Get Enough” by Patty Loveless in the late 1990s. Kent's songwriting continues with established writing partnerships, as well as developing partnerships with new writers and artists. Many of his crafted works continue to be recorded by artists such as Diamond Rio, Kenny Chesney, Terri Clark, Clay Walker, Patty Loveless, Julie Roberts, Andy Griggs and Blaine Larsen, a new recording artist on RCA. Kent's latest #1 hit is Gettin' You Home (The Black Dress Song), recorded by Chris Young. Kent also has the title track on Reba's latest CD "All The Women I Am" It's also the name of her tour, tv special and her exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame. Also, look for Kent's latest cuts from Randy Houser "The Power of a Song" on Randy's latest CD. And "Empty Beer Cans" on Jon Pardi's album "Write You A Song". The C.L.I.M.B. The twang of a steel guitar and the sweet notes of a fiddle met with the sound of a music-hall piano. This is the classic country sound young artist Jake Blocker grew up listening to. “My grampa gave me a guitar when I was 8 years old,” said the 18-year-old singer-songwriter. “I've been playing ever since!” In fact, Blocker has been writing songs ever since, too. With over 50 years in the country music industry, Moe Bandy is no rodeo clown! You can't be a clown, and make it in the music business. “The Texas Music Hall of Famer took time to speak to https://www.stonecoldcountry.net/blog/search/.hash.onthebrink (#OnTheBrink): A podcast about country music, and life to talk about his latest album “A Love Like That”. The album boasts an original penned by Leona Williams,, who has had an amazing career of her own, most notably for her songwriting credits with the late great Merle Haggard. There are several stand out tracks such as “It's All Over Town”, and “City Lights”. However, it is “You Can;t Stop a Heart From Breaking” that takes us to the undeniable hard country sound that Moe is famous for. The song is brilliant, and points to milestones reached in the world such as a man walking on the moon, and talking over the internet. But sadly, we can't stop a heart from breaking, despite life-changing innovations. You would be sadly mistaken, if you think the road to the top was paved with roses for Moe. One can only imagine the heartbreak felt when you tally the loss of friends in country music to alcohol, and disease among other things. Moe himself battled with the bottle, but made it to the other side with the help of strong family support, and faith. When the legend looks around today, he is still hopeful, and full of great memories, and wise advice. For example, Moe feels one way to unite people is to accept our flaws, and failures as human beings, and to learn from your mistakes. Moe further shares that loving where you are from is unifying. It's a point of view coming from someone whose weathered many storms, and has lived to tell. This sentiment goes beyond small town pride, it's american pride served up with a genuine love for people. Show host Sana Mello says “the interview was inspiring. Moe is a living testament to staying productive, and relevant at any age. That's the kind of message, we can all use right now..”

This week we welcome Penny Cardin - Loden! Penny started singing in church at the age of 3. Her career started in gospel music back in 1980, with the Speer Family. “Even though I enjoyed singing and playing piano with them immensely, that style of gospel piano was so foreign to me as I had studied classical piano for most of my life, that I decided to leave,” said Penny. However, other opportunities came knocking for her when Engelbert Humperdinck called. She was blessed to do a couple world tours with him in the ‘80”s & ‘90's. This lead to a job offer from Dave Rowland, of the famed singing group, Dave & Sugar. She stated, “I loved being one of the “Sugars” in the 1980's'. Then one day, Mickey (Mouse) called and Penny ended up getting to sing at Walt Disney World in Orlando with the famed Voices Of Liberty singing group. The phone rang again, this time from a different Mickey..... Mickey Gilley. Penny joined the Mickey Gilley Show in 1991 and spent close to five years as one of his “Urbanette's”. The next phone call came from Moe Bandy, where Penny enjoyed a season of singing with him. Following that, Branson's founding show, The Baldknobbers, hired her to be a featured member of their country music show for a decade. The road beaconed once again, and she returned to performing and traveling with Mickey Gilley. By this time she had become Mom to her daughter, Gracie. Penny said, “Both my husband, Bill, and I, were on the road touring. And when your only child calls you from home and sounds lonely while her parents are out of state, I knew it was time to make a change”. Leaving the touring world, didn't mean music would end for Penny. Church ministry became her next calling. She is currently working with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and loves it. You can still find her singing with the worship team at Freedom Fellowship Church, located at the Presleys' Theatre, where Scott Presley is Pastor. Penny invites anyone to visit their church or watch their services online.

He's had ten No. 1 songs, 40 Top Ten hits, five gold records and numerous ACM and CMA Awards. Bandy started his recording career while he was a sheet metal worker in San Antonio, Texas, but traded sheet metal for gold albums after a decade of hard labor. His traditional sound came along during the mid-70's when the country pop sound of Kenny Rogers and John Denver, and the outlaw sound of Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson were all the rage. Bandy is back with A Love Like That today (Fri, August 28th) that delivers true-to-the-bone traditional country music that fans expect from “Bandy the Rodeo Clown.” The eleven track project was produced by acclaimed Grand Ole Opry musician, the late Jimmy Capps, who's worked with George Jones, George Strait, Ray Charles and Tammy Wynette. Capps and Bandy completed the album prior to his passing earlier this year. Matt Bailey had a chance to chat with Bandy back in July. We wanted to share this episode as the album is released so fans have some behind-the-scenes incite about how the project was born and what it was like working with Capps. While the chat features a lot of "Garth talk," including some behind-the-scenes discussions of songwriting sessions, we also discuss Blazy's interest in country music and his philanthropic Alive Hospice, in honor of his wife who passed away from cancer. Not to mention his years as a sheet metal worker by day and playing Honkey Tonks at night in and around his hometown of San Antonio, Texas.  In the mid-seventies when the country pop Kenny Rogers, John Denver and the outlaw sound of Waylon and Willie was the rage, along came the traditionalist Moe Bandy. The Texas singer with twin fiddles and steel guitar in the band kept Texas-style Honkey Tonk music alive, but it wasn't easy. In 1972 Moe met record producer Ray Baker on a hunting trip and convinced him to listen to some demo tapes he had made. Baker agreed to produce Moe if he was willing to pay for recording session. Moe agreed and out of that session came Moe's first hit song "I just Started Hatin Cheatin' Songs Today".  GRC records picked up the song and released it nationally where it became a top 20 hit and that was just the beginning. Moe followed up with "It Was Always So Easy (To Find An Unhappy Woman)" and his first #1 hit "Bandy The Rodeo Clown". His songs never strayed far from the traditionally Honky Tonk fare. Loving, cheating, drinking and patriotic songs formed the core of his music.Moe continues to perform to packed houses all over the world.  More than anything else Moe loves to perform for his countless fans.  Be sure to check out Moe's website MoeBandy.com because he just might be coming to a town near you!  Also, make sure you get a copy of his autobiography, "Moe Bandy - Lucky Me".  "When I look back on my life, 'Lucky Me' really sums it all up.  I am lucky to have had all the success that I've enjoyed.  And I am lucky to still be here.  After you read my life story, you'll agree that I am very lucky!  I am very blessed", said Moe.For Moe's complete tour schedule visit MoeBandy.com or MoeBandyBook.com.

In this week's episode we're featuring a mid-80s album on for the always-country Moe Bandy: "Motel Matches" (1984). Bandy made traditional country music and rarely deviated from it. Respected country historian Bill Malone called Moe Bandy's music "a breath of fresh air through the fetid morass of country pop" - and even though it was 1984, "Motel Matches" was more of the same. Throughout his career thus far, Bandy had specialised in hard country songs about drinking and cheating (often depicted in the artwork on some of country's most glorious album covers) and a good chunk of our feature album is firmly in his wheelhouse once more. A relationship with songwriter Whitey Shafer which began with "Bandy The Rodeo Clown" and "I Just Started Hating Cheating Songs Today" in the early 70s continues with "In Mexico" and "Don't Start Me Cheatin' Again". Other highlights include one of two singles in "It Took A Lot Of Drinkin' (To Get That Woman Over Me)" and a comfortable song for Bandy (a 2007 Texas Rodeo Hall Of Fame inductee) in "The Horse That You Can't Ride".

Beau Renfro is a member of the Rock-a-Billy Hall of Fame in Jackson, Tennessee. He is an entertainer, song writer and singer. Beau's music career started in a church in Forrest City, Arkansas. He learned to sing by listening to his mother and sisters sing old Gospel songs. All nine of his sisters played a role in the evolution of Beau’s music. His sister Jean paid for his first guitar and sisters Lou, Joyce, Naomi and Helen made sure he paid attention as they worked out the songs for Sunday service and his little sister Martha was the audience. Beau grew up listening to the great sounds out of Nashville play from his radio. After moving to east Texas, Beau formed a country band called Beau & the Bandits. He worked at a radio station (KROZ) as the morning DJ by day and he and the Bandits played his music at night in some of Texas' most famous night clubs including the Sawmill Club, the Oil Palace, The Rio and The Tropicana. He also played back up for many of the country stars out of Nashville including T.G. Shepard, Moe Bandy, Jerry Reed, Charlie Rich, Faron Young and Joe Stampley. Beau was hired to play in the David Houston Band and in 1976 released his first album. The single “There’s No More Gold” went to number 85 on the country charts and was chosen as ‘pick hit of the week’ by Billboard Magazine. Beau also promoted songs for Cedarwood Publishing Company in Nashville and was responsible for pitching the song “Red Wine” to Epic Records. The song went to #5 for Joe Stampley. After his first album, Beau fell off the charts. He returned to the familiar Texas nightclub venue. The required travel began to interfere in his family life, so he accepted a job in Branson, MO as the MC for the Ozark Jubilee. Finding the 200 show per year schedule as time consuming as the nightclub travel, Beau decided to retire from the music business. Beau and his family moved to Tucson, Arizona where he got a job in the car industry. Unable to stay away from music, he formed a new band, Beau Renfro and his Clear Country Band and began playing in Tucson clubs and casinos. After many years, Beau and his wife Brenda moved back to a small town in the foothills of the Ozarks where he currently resides.
