“Your toys look funner than mine!”It's book two of the Kane Chronicles! Was DJ right about Apophis taking over the Oracle of Delphi? No, of course not. Other topics include both host being bested by the book description, the framing device breaking down again, dreaming of the day when Riordan will finally tear down the walls, Sadie seriously over sharing, that fella Walt, acknowledging that Percabeth is, in fact, the greatest love story ever told, justice for vultures, and trying to nuance our way out of a bad love triangle.Spoilers for X-Men (comics and animated series) and LokiContent Warning: This episode contains mentions of and conversations about death and torture. On Prophecy Radio episode #132, Karen and Kristen discuss the final two chapters of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods! They also talk about the brand new Nico di Angelo novel, The Court of the Dead. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:06:47) Karen's officiating a wedding, which means you get this episode early! Leah won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Performance by a Youth (for Percy Jackson)! A Touch of Blood by Sajni Patel is out now. The Court of the Dead: A Nico di Angelo Adventure releases in the US and the UK on September 25, 2023. We go through the synopsis and it sounds fantastic. Khadijah Khatib once again did the cover, and we're obsessed with it! We look at the cover pretty closely and see if we can find any clues about the story. The Cosmopolitan interview with Rick and Mark about the new book is a lot of fun. We love that this was Mark's idea and that they keep describing the book as “bonkers.” Will we see Bob and Small Bob again? Could there be a third Nico di Angelo book?? There IS a new character we can expect in Book 2. We also love the three words each of them use to describe this book. Check out Rick's blog for a few more details. We go through all the special editions that Read Riordan announced on their Instagram. Are you planning on getting any of the special editions? Would you spring for more than one? Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:33:03) We kick off our discussion with Chalice of the Gods chapter 34. “Delete, Delete” is the best running joke. Did you remember when the spaghetti situation took place? Is Paul basically Rick? The art of the one-star review is something to be revered. Is Sally's one-star review really a review that Rick got? We're so interested in Sally's book! What genre is it?? Callie once again shows up to share her opinions. The scene where Percy has to write his letter is SO FANTASTIC. We go looking for the recommendation letter we thought we remembered being in one of the special editions and get a surprise. As always, we get into our favorite lines and favorite scenes. Lastly, we jump into chapter 35, “Pretty Much the Best Good-Night Kiss Ever.” Percy gets Annabeth's special smile! Annabeth is very chill about giving out her autograph. It's so interesting that we learned something new about the cap. Annabeth is speechless over the fact that Athena has maybe, sort of, kind of accepted Percy as her boyfriend? We love visions of Percabeth's future! Easy-queasy has a lot of potential. The “I love you” felt significant, but it's not the first time they said it, right? The goodnight kiss through the Iris Message was SO CUTE. Favorite lines and favorite scenes! Feedback (00:00:00) There is no feedback this week! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 133, where we'll review what we've already discussed in The Red Pyramid before we pick it back up again. Our friend Laura joins us to talk about all the greatness in chapters 11 and 12 (including the biggest Percabeth development in the series so far!!!) as well as our first kisses, Mal's greatest shame, the birds and the bees, and a normal amount of concern about Athena's thought babies.Follow us on instagram at @demigoddebutpod, TikTok at @demigoddebutpod, and Twitter (X) at @demigoddebutpod Hosted on Acast. Today, the girls welcome their best friend Gillian—a fellow book bestie and Karly's childhood best friend! Yes, if you remember Karly talking about her Percabeth fanfiction and Harry Potter obsessed confidante, that is indeed Gill. Together, they dive deep into all four books of Jennifer Armentrout's Flesh and Fire series. While they butcher the pronunciation of every character and location (sorry, we can't get behind Seraphena's name being pronounced SEE-raphena) the girls can't help but rave about the captivating characters and steamy scenes that kept them hooked. However, with the extensive world-building and the series' role as a prequel to the beloved Blood and Ash series, there's a lot to unpack, and the girls barely scratch the surface. Let us know if you would like a book by book deep dive!
We are joined by Soph (@sopapillasvideos) to talk about chapters 7 and 8 of Battle of the Labyrinth and also Percabeth as Orpheus and Eurydice, the logistics of walking from New York to San Francisco, the anatomy of several horrifying monsters, meeting your heroes, whether or not Kampê originated as a child's cursed art project, and pronouncing every name incorrectly.Follow us on instagram at @demigoddebutpod, TikTok at @demigoddebutpod, and Twitter (X) at @demigoddebutpodFollow Soph on TikTok at @sopapillasvideos, and instagram at @s0phgretch3n Hosted on Acast. We talk about chapters 3 & 4 of Battle of the Labyrinth as well as the way many songs on Sabrina Carpenter's Short n Sweet album are Annabeth/Luke coded, our thoughts on the random campers just vibing in the background, where to find wrecking ball opportunities, which characters Julie would sacrifice in exchange for Tyson's survival, and the wild ride that is Percabeth in these chapters.Follow us on instagram at @demigoddebutpod, TikTok at @demigoddebutpod, and Twitter (X) at @demigoddebutpod Hosted on Acast. We are so excited to start Chalice of the Gods with you all and get back to reading about Percy, Annabeth, and Grover! We start off with chapters 1-6, and celebrate the return of first person Percy. There are some real sweet Percabeth moments in these first few chapters. Also, Sally Jackson. Percy embarks on his new quest, with the help of his besties. Manasa deep dives on Ganymede, the original twink, and we revisit our time at Rick's book tour for this book. We finish up by discussing PowerPuff Girls and candy. If Rick Riordan has no fans, then Mia & Karly are dead. In today's episode, your fav podcast hosts are diving into the latest adaptation of the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series on Disney+. (Please note: Karly uses Mia's Disney+ account and their profile pics are a shark and Dory from Finding Nemo, respectively.) Middle school Mia & Karly would be hard fangirling knowing that they would eventually get the adaptation of Percy Jackson that they DESERVE - although they're still disappointed the show didn't pay homage to the mediocre Logan Lerman movie adaptation and the infamous Lotus Casino/Poker Face scene. They discuss their deep seated history with Riordan's book series and give their professional opinions on the show as OG Percy Jackson and Percabeth fanfiction readers. Seeing as it's been a decade since they last held a copy of a Percy Jackson book, the girls are due for a re-read and will surely be delivering a deep dive episode in the future. They'll also discuss how the 2010s fandom culture era was quite literally the best time to grow up in and why it shaped them into the women (and readers) they are today. Fandoms walked so roman empires could run. Between One Directioners, Beliebers, and the Edward vs. Jacob craze, it's a wonder the girls got any school work done when they were reading POV fanfiction about dating Harry Styles. Happy reading besties!

Prophecy Radio episode #117 discusses Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 6, “We Take a Zebra to Vegas.” How was Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes? What did they change from the books? Is Grover everyone's number one suspect for the lightning thief!? We also tackle the latest Percy Jackson news and read a few pieces of listener feedback. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:44) Take this quiz to find out which hero you are. Here's the BTS video for episode 4. Have you seen the BTS video for episode 3? If so, send it our way! Did you see how close they're standing in the episode 5 poster!? Rick has been sharing a lot of memories on Threads. James Bobin has been nominated for a Directors Guild of America award for his work on Percy Jackson and the Olympians! There will be a Camp Half-Blood experience in São Paulo, Brazil. Kristen JUST MISSED the Percy Jackson and the Olympians exhibit now in Hollywood Studios. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 6, “We Take a Zebra to Vegas” (00:15:21) What did we think of this episode overall? Let's kick off our discussion by breaking down Percy's latest nightmare. The Iris Message scene was amazing for SO many different reasons. Why was Luke in Chiron's office??? You should've heard our shriek when Luke called Percabeth an old married couple. Percy needs to be a little more aware of how sensitive some demigods are about their parents. Who has two thumbs and can release a horde of animals into downtown Las Vegas? Does Grover not care about humans? Did you catch that cute turtle on the median? The Lotus Hotel and Casino was beautiful, inside and out. “Levitating” by Dua Lipa was an inspired choice. We love how the kids immediately remembered about the Lotus Eaters. Graphic novels (and audiobooks) still count as reading!! We finally get a Wise Girl!!! Grover seemed a little miffed at Annabeth. We get some backstory on Luke and Hermes. Meanwhile, Grover meets Augustus. Annabeth doesn't know what to do about the bigger plan at play here and Percy is SHOCKED. Why would Pan be in the Lotus Hotel and Casino? Does anyone know what story Hermes was telling when he was first introduced? The way Hermes' face turns pained when they introduce them as Luke's friends! Was there anything of note in Hermes' office? Annabeth has all the subtly of a sledgehammer. Mortal/god relationships are toxic. What was up with that Young Percy flashback? Hermes is insidious in a different way from Ares. Did you catch Annabeth pulling out her hat as she left? Hermes has some great quotes about parenting. What is Hermes' motivation here? Speaking of motivation, what about Augustus' motives? Was Grover actually close to finding Pan? Percy chose not to lie to Grover about how he kind of made them late. The driving scene was hilarious, and we loved every second. Does 3N17 stand for anything? They made it to Santa Monica in one piece!! This episode gave us some flashbacks to the Tartarus scenes from the books. Is this the same nereid from the other episode? The deadline already passed!! Percy refuses to give up on his quest. There's no way one of those pearls doesn't break, right? What's the difference between a nereid and a naiad? Feedback (01:51:13) notjustanotherfangirl is looking forward to season 2's credits sequence. Nicolaas rightly says that mechanical monster from episode 1 was a rhino, not a bull. Morgan had a guess for those bat/serpent/octopus creatures. Judith likes that Grover doesn't eat random things when he's upset. Jessica wants to know which added scenes we've liked best so far. Solomon had some thoughts on Medusa. Toby Stephens News warns us that making viewers reevaluate the definition of monstrosity is Jon Steinberg's love language. We need Athena and her owl ASAP. Jessica writes back in to talk about the winter solstice visit. And Nicolaas also loved Hephaestus' musical cues. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 118, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 7! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. We discuss the changes and theorize about why some of them were made. Includes behind-the-scenes interview audio clips from Eric Henry and Jeff White (VFX Supervisors)! While analyzing each set of chapters, the trio takes an english class approach while diving into how this effects their lives, relates to pop culture, and means about its relationship to literature and the Greek classics. Find out more about this podcast at returntocamp.com Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney Plus: Percy Jackson is on a dangerous quest. Outrunning monsters and outwitting gods, he must journey across America to return Zeus' master bolt and stop an all-out war. He must prove himself and confront his origins once he discovers he too is a demigod, and will take off into the perils of pursuing enemies in search of the Underworld. With the help of his quest mates Annabeth and Grover, Percy's journey will lead him closer to the answers he seeks: how to fit into a world where he feels out of place, if he'll ever see his mother again, and if he can ever find out who he's destined to be. Percy Jackson and the Olympians forces us to reevaluate our definition of monstrosity. The Do's and Don'ts of Percy Jackson's Visit to the Gateway Arch. Here's the Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 4 poster. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 5, “A God Buys Us Cheeseburgers” (00:31:27) Are we disappointed we didn't stay underwater with Percy? Annabeth NEVER doubted Percy was alive. Her FACE when she realizes she's still hugging him. Percy thinks he's so clever, and Grover and Annabeth share the cutest look. Also, he's obsessed with that hug and she's already moved on. How is Percy so confident that he can change Fate? Ares' coat is SO. DRAMATIC. Of course he would have the sound on his phone all the way up. If you're arguing with a Twitter troll, it's probably the god of war. We're so glad they brought Gabe back to do the news interview. Annabeth has NO FEAR! Again, the show incorporates exposition in such a subtle, clever way. Adam Copeland is so good at switching the deadly god persona on and off. Grover does not hesitate to stay behind as collateral. Did Percy just ask Annabeth on a date? That whole thing with the door was brilliant, adding tension and showing us more of Annabeth's personality. Percy thinks Ares is super gross for bringing Aphrodite to Hephaestus' waterpark, and you know what? He's not wrong. Grover is so good at buttering up Ares, and tbh he makes a lot of great points. We're loving the Percabeth banter so much. Also obsessed with the music choice and the animation on the walls of the tunnel. Is Percy a little angry at his mom? We need this ride at Disney!! “I'm figuring this out as I go” is Percy Jackson's life motto. Have we heard about this winter solstice presentation before? Athena and her owl—we can't wait to see it. Grover is so clever, omg. SEAWEED BRAIN. SEAWEED BRAIN. SEAWEED BRAIN. It's so Percabeth, and we're beside ourselves. The performances in this episode are out of this world. Enter Hephaestus, who is not to be trifled with but is also maybe one of the more empathetic gods. Annabeth has changed so much in such little time knowing Percy. Was Ares surprised or disappointed to see the kids return with his shield? The adults in this show are SO MEAN omg. Just call him Impertinent Percy. Wait, Grover knows who the lightning thief is!? Feedback (01:43:13) Rowan has video proof of Rick's pronunciation of Thalia. Untherion wants to talk about the beach house, Blackjack, Grover's (lack of) crutches, and Annabeth being invisible when Percy, um, relieved himself. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 117, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 6! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #115 discusses Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 4, “I Plunge to My Death,” in all its glory! The Percabeth is strong with this one. We also tackle all the Percy Jackson news that came out in the hour between recording episodes, and read a few pieces of listener feedback that you sent in. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:53) Hot Topic has more Percy Jackson official merch for you to choose from. Oh, and Disney also has some official merch, too! Have you seen the Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode posters? We've got episode I and episode II right here for you. We also read out the Percy Jackson and the Olympians soundtrack official tracklist. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 4, “I Plunge to My Death” (00:08:21) This episode was definitely short, but it also packed in a lot of stuff! We start off with a flashback of Young Percy, and oh my gods OUR HEARTS. It's so interesting that he's afraid of the water. Sally implies she might not be around forever, and we just can't handle this. Young Percy shows up in one of the dreams, and we talk about who is warning Percy and who they're warning him against. Annabeth really looked up to Thalia, and you can tell she modeled herself on the other demigod. Percy does NOT like the way you have to earn your parents' respect in this world. We hear a bit of Annabeth's backstory, and it makes so much sense why she is the way she is. Grumpy Grover is hilarious, and we need more of him ASAP. Zeus must've sent Echidna, right? The Percabeth is really Percabething this episode. Seeing the centaurs out the window allows them to introduce the concept of Pan and the Searchers. Never try to understand a prophecy because you will FAIL. How do we feel about no Gladiola? Leah is THE perfect Annabeth, and no one will convince us otherwise. Echidna is one of those sickly sweet people who's just waiting to stab you in the back. Or, in Percy's case, in the chest. This series has such an interesting take on the concept of monstrosity. How do we feel about them changing the name and gender of the chimera? Did you know the St. Louis Arch was a sanctuary for Athena? Annabeth's love of architecture makes so much sense! Grover does NOT like manifest destiny. Percy makes Annabeth laugh!!! Seriously, there are so many great Percabeth moments this episode. Note to self: Fountain water does not cure illness due to poison stingers. What did Echidna say to Annabeth? Annabeth wants to sacrifice herself for the mission, but Percy is having none of that. Percy looks rough, but he's holding on. It's okay that we think the chimera is super cute, right? And we're totally okay that it doesn't have a goat-headed fire parascope coming out of its back. Echidna is the mother of monsters AND cutting people down one zinger at a time. The TV show fixed the issue with Percy falling into the river! Was the Nereid out of focus to help save some money on CGI? Poseidon has always been here, so trust him and breathe! Feedback (01:16:09) Sissypho has questions about Gladiola. A Bite Of Pod agrees that this show has a lot of rewatchability. The Damn Meme Page wants to know when we're getting that Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 renewal. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 116, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 5 in all its glory! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #114 takes an in-depth look at Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 3, “We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium.” Furies and Gorgons and gods, oh my! We also go through some of the articles that came out of Percy Jackson press week, and read a few pieces of listener feedback that you sent in. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:26) Don't forget to pre-order the Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief Deluxe Collector's Edition if you haven't already! Surprise, Percy Jackson and the Olympians now airs on Tuesdays at 9pm ET on Disney+. Take a closer look at the Percy Jackson and the Olympians end credits and his monster notebook! One of the hosts of Camp Half-Pod wrote an article about how Percy and Sally's relationship is the beating heart of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The Empire State Building lit up blue on December 20. There will be a Percy Jackson and the Olympians behind-the-scenes documentary. Teen Vogue profiled Walker Scobell and Leah Sava Jeffries. Watch as Rick Riordan reacts to the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Capture the Flag scene. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 3, “We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium” (00:09:07) What were our overall thoughts on this episode? We loved seeing the attic and tried to spot as many items here as possible. The Oracle is SO CREEPY and we know Percy would agree. Why did we get so excited about the green smoke? Chiron can't fault Percy's logic for picking Annabeth. Poor Grover has to shovel poop as his punishment for defying Dionysus. Did Percy choose Grover to go on the quest to keep his enemy closer? Was that really Blackjack? We get an explanation of drachmas, and we're dying for some of our own. The wings coming out of the shoe's laces was amazing to watch. Why didn't Percy choose Luke for his quest? Annabeth says goodbye to Thalia's tree and Percy is NOT having it. The tension between Percabeth is going to make their friendship even more rewarding down the line. Did you realize which monster that woman in the convenience store was? Even Mrs. Dodds knows Annabeth is a badass! We got some major Percy Jackson musical vibes from that scene in the woods. Uncle Ferdinand's backstory is going to be relevant VERY soon. Why didn't they mention how demigods shouldn't have phones? We're really loving how much more we're getting from Annabeth in this episode. Percy is NOT happy that Grover was Annabeth's protector first. Saved by the burger! Medusa is giving off good vibes, to be honest. Though her house is giving Hansel and Gretel. We get Medusa's story from the Gorgon herself, and Annabeth doesn't like what she has to say about Athena. Medusa feels protective of Percy and offers him a choice, but he dips before he gets stuck between a rock and a hard place. WHY WOULD YOU RUN INTO THE BASEMENT? Did anyone else forget Medusa had snakes for hair? Annabeth's impromptu plan is pretty amazing. Why doesn't Uncle Ferdinand's statue look afraid like the others? Grover calls out both of his friends for their recent antics and attitude. This is definitely the start of some kind of friendship between Percy and Annabeth. What do you mean, Percy IS impertinent. We're obsessed with the consensus song. We totally were not expecting to see Hermes at the end of the episode! That song playing during the end credits is absolutely perfect. Feedback (01:39:12) Toni thinks we should get a renewal for 14 more seasons, and we totally agree. Sword of Avalon writes in with an awesome idea for a vlog series called The Demigod Diaries. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 115, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 4 in detail! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #111 is our biggest and best episode yet. After attending several press conferences during Percy Jackson and the Olympians press week, we break down all the new information and behind-the-scenes stories. We also got to watch the first two episodes of the show, so we give you our spoiler-free thoughts on our initial reactions. December 20 is fast approaching! New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:43) Join the Prophecy Radio Reading Room group on Facebook! Black Sails is coming to Netflix US in January. The Sun and the Star is on Kirkus' Best Of 2023 Middle Grade list. If you went to one of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians advanced screenings, be sure to let us know! Did you see the new Percy Jackson character posters? Don't forget the quick clip of Percy, Nancy, and Mrs. Dodds at the museum. There's a Your Morning interview with Walker, Leah, and Aryan. We also got posters of Medusa, Alecto, and the minotaur. Jason Mantzoukas was on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The trio present Greek Mythology 101 and absolutely kill it. This video also gave us our first look at the Fates and the Oracle. There's new promo left and right, like this clip with Grover saying, “Bad dog!” to Cerberus. Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused with the trio will premiere soon. We LOVE that Logan sent in a little message to Walker. Liam is getting his own show called Riptide Radio, and we couldn't be happier! Rick answers five questions from Instagram, and then answers some more in his December 13 blog post. Percy Jackson and the Olympians press week (00:27:50) We've got A LOT of interviews to cover, so sit back and enjoy our breakdown of the highlights. (You can also read the accompanying article.) First up, we've got showrunners Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz, plus Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri. How familiar were the kids with the books? How did they make these characters their own? Which scenes best showcased Percabeth? What was it like being on the Camp Half-Blood set? Someone asked Walker if he was going to be in Deadpool 3! What aspect of their own personalities did they put into their characters? Which scenes were they most excited to film? How much babysitting did Aryan have to do!? How did they toe the line between being faithful to the books and bringing this story to life in a different medium? What did they take home from the set? (Aryan's answer got us VERY excited.) What did Walker learn from his co-stars? Our friends at Monster Donut Podcast got to ask what their favorite myths are. There were several questions about being faithful to the books, and we love Jon and Dan's answers. Next up, we got to talk to Jeff White, the visual effects supervisor for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. How did the team make the world of Percy Jackson stand out? What creature did they have the most fun creating? We get some really cool behind-the-scenes information about how Chiron was brought to life. We also learned how much Aryan did to bring Grover to the small screen. Jeff also talked about the Volume stage and how integral it was to creating the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. He also told us a few fun stories about figuring out different ways to bring aspects of the story alive, like Riptide and Iris Messaging. What drew Jeff to this project? Time and time again, everyone said how often they'd go back to the books for inspiration! Next up, we heard from set designer Dan Henna and costume designer Tish Monaghan. They both talk about their process for expanding on what was given in the books. We also learn how they both helped bring Camp Half-Blood to life. Hearing about Alecto's transformation really added to our feelings about the scene. There was so much talk about Medusa's portrayal, and we're even more excited to see her on screen now. And who can forget about the Lotus Hotel and Casino? They both describe their favorite costumes and sets. Again, the constant mantra on set was “go back to the book.” Lastly, we also got to hear from Rick and Becky Riordan! There was lots of talking about refreshing the story and doing some things Rick wished he would've done 20 years ago. They also talk about how they just knew when they found the trio. There were no pre-conceived notions about who would be cast as the gods. Becky commented on the fact that they got to expand upon Luke's motivations. We also learn about some moments from the series that can't be found in the book. They didn't want slapstick comedy, but there are still plenty of laughs. It's important that the show feels modern and timeless. We can't wait to learn more about Sally and Poseidon's relationship! Did you know that Rick and Becky didn't go see Camp Half-Blood until it was all finished? We were so excited to learn how important Becky was to the process of adapting the series. Seaweed Brain Podcast got to ask them if Percabeth was the greatest love story of all time! Would we want to see a Percy Jackson and the Olympians musical episode? We'll have more to discuss next week! Be sure to leave us your thoughts! Percy Jackson and the Olympians episodes 1 and 2 spoiler-free review (02:12:21) We got to see Percy Jackson and the Olympians episodes 1 and 2 ahead of the premiere date and WE'RE SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS SHOW. First, we have to give you our overall thoughts, which is that we absolutely loved the episodes we got to see. The quality of the show is immaculate, between the set production, the costuming, and the visual effects. It's also extremely accurate to the source material! Anything they changed was small-scale, and felt logical for the tone of the story. Seeing Camp Half-Blood was surreal, and the Big House was beautiful! It was amazing that they somehow made everyone look like individuals despite all wearing the same shirts. And Chiron and Mr. D's costumes were perfect and fit them so well. We talk more about the dryad that Tish Monaghan mentioned. Okay, but now we need to get into our thoughts on everyone's performances. Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson is literally perfect. He OWNS this character. We also can't get enough of Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase. She's silent a lot through her scenes, but she says SO MUCH. And then there's Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. He's got great chemistry with Walker, and his comedic timing is also genius. But we were super impressed by Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson. And no one will be surprised that Jason Mantzoukas is the perfect Dionysus. And the same goes for Glynn Turman as Chiron, who is more perfect than anyone could've dreamed. This is, without a doubt, the Percy Jackson and the Olympians adaptation that we've always dreamed of. Feedback (02:42:58) Mac wants to know if CRITICS will enjoy the show? Ark is curious if there are some fan-favorite quotes that made it into the series. Dr. Tiezn needs to know more about Camp Half-Blood coming to life. Solomon's son wants to know if the show is accurate to the book. Meanwhile, Ennis is worried about Grover's hair. We also hear from Rebeca, who talks about Chalice of the Gods and might start her own podcast in Spanish! Darcy also writes in to tell us which Rick Riordan Presents book are currently optioned and at which streaming services. Stick around for our updated schedule! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 112, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 1 in all its glory! Prophecy Radio episode #102 jumps into Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan, discussing the first three chapters in detail. We also break down the latest Rick Riordan news, including updates on Survivor season 45, the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes, the Mark of Athena graphic novel, and more. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:23) Happy birthday to Leah Jeffries, who turned 14 on September 25! Roseanne A. Brown is stepping away from Twitter and will primarily be on Instagram. The Mark of Athena graphic novel is officially on sale! Khadijah Khatib has created new covers for the UK edition of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Did you pick up a Barnes & Noble exclusive edition of Chalice of the Gods? Check to see if any pages are missing! We give you a couple of small updates about the sequel(!) to Chalice of the Gods. Introducing Kristen's Korner! She gives us an awesome update about the Survivor season 45 premiere, starring J. Maya! Kristen also talks about the latest updates for the strikes. The writers are officially back to work! You can read about the agreement here. Adam Conover has a great summary of what they won. It's important to note that SAG-AFTRA is still striking, so we can't talk about the show just yet. Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:26:40) This week, we're talking about Chalice of the Gods chapters 1-3. Let's kick it off with chapter 1, where Percy can't go a single day without getting mixed up with the Greek gods. We are OBSESSED with the first line of the book. If you were worried about this not feeling like Percy Jackson…it was all in vain! Percy just wants to go to school and do his homework and not have to worry about all this other stuff!! That being said, thank goodness for Alternative High School. It's New Rome University (and Annabeth) or DEATH! We're still fascinated by how the Mist works. The biggest twist of this chapter is that Eudora was actually trying to be helpful. Now we know where the blue jolly ranchers came from. What is a psychoeducational evaluation?? Percy is SO annoyed he has to do NEW quests for the gods. We really want to know more about other demigod schools around the country or the world. Was Eudora more scared of Poseidon or Percy? How was Poseidon eavesdropping on their conversation?? In Chalice of the Gods chapter 2, Percy visits Poseidon, who “helps” him with his recommendation letters. Poseidon's Private Plumbing System™ is classic Rick Riordan. Percy has some pretty eclectic friends. Percy is in debt…life debt. All these rules and stipulations are a little ridiculous, if you ask us. Will Nico have to go through all of this if he wants to get into NRU? Would Thalia, if she ever leaves the Hunters? Will Percy Jackson ever reach 18 years old? We could totally see Percy being a part of Camp Half-Blood even as an adult. What would a second-gen demigod be like, and could we ever get a story about that? Let's talk about Chalice of the Gods chapter 3 because… …PERCABETH IS BACK!!! We loved how Annabeth immediately volunteered to help with Percy's quests. Is it true that Percy never really wanted to date anyone else? Percabeth reminds us of Rick and Becky, and it makes us so happy! THEIR PULSES ALIGN WHEN THEY HOLD HANDS. Is something going on with Annabeth at her school? Annabeth and Paul being BFFs is amazing, and we loved every second. Percy is so reflective and introspective in this book. Kristen reminds Karen that we do not trumpet…we panflute! Grover no longer wears pants. Was Luke not able to transition into the real world? We have SO many good ideas for future Percy Jackson books. Percy's love of family dinner hit us both pretty hard. Sally Jackson is about to be a published author!! How amazing would it be if we got a standalone novel following Grover as the Lord of the Wild?? Feedback (01:29:58) Rachel writes in to give us some feedback about the first three chapters of Chalice of the Gods. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 103, in which we'll discuss the Chicago stop of the Chalice of the Gods book tour before tackling chapters 4 and 5 of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #100 celebrates our huge milestone by looking back on our favorite episodes, guest stars, book discussions, and more. We also break down what Percy, Annabeth, and Grover were doing at the end of Heroes of Olympus in anticipation of the next Percy Jackson book. As always, we also discuss all the latest Rick Riordan news, including the chapter titles for Chalice of the Gods. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:07) Serwa Boateng's Guide to Witchcraft and Mayhem is now out in the world, and you can read an excerpt on Read Riordan. Rainbow Crate gives us an update on the second batch of The Sun and the Star books being shipped out. Becky gives us a little update on the Kane Chronicles contract amid the strikes. Did you see the Indonesian cover for Chalice of the Gods? Yes, Jesse Bernstein is returning to voice Percy Jackson in Chalice of the Gods. Did you catch Rick's video about CotG? Have you read the FIRST THREE CHAPTERS OF CHALICE OF THE GODS? We discuss the chapter titles in detail and speculate on the plot for the book. Celebrating 100 episodes of Prophecy Radio (00:30:02) We discuss our favorite episodes of the podcast, particularly over the course of the last 50 episodes. What fun facts have we learned in our nearly two years as a podcast? It's so hard to pick favorite guest stars, but there are a few authors who really stick out in our minds. It's also difficult to pick a favorite Rick Riordan Presents book discussion, but we both had similar answers. What were some of our most surprising moments on the podcast? There's SO much to look forward to in our future. Of course, we can't wait for Chalice of the Gods. We also can't wait to be able to talk about the show, but for now, we're staying #WGASTRONG. Leaving on such a cliffhanger, we can't wait to get back to The Red Pyramid. There are also a couple of Rick Riordan Presents books that we're really looking forward to coming up soon! Thank you for listening and celebrating with us! Chalice of the Gods character catch-up (01:02:49) Chalice of the Gods takes place after the Heroes of Olympus and before Trials of Apollo. Percy Jackson went through A LOT in Heroes of Olympus, like being switched with Jason, losing his Curse of Achilles, and falling into Tartarus. Speaking of Tartarus, there's a part about him disintegrating, and we're wondering if that could be related to one of the CotG chapter titles. Will the trio still be mourning Leo's death, or do they know he's alive now? Annabeth spends a lot of time looking for Percy until Mark of Athena, where she really gets to shine. We love a good ol' Percabeth reunion. Percy and Annabeth totally awaken Gaea with their blood, but everything works out in the end and they'll be at New Rome University soon enough. Grover wasn't in the Heroes of Olympus a lot, so we're excited to see more of him in Chalice of the Gods. Will we see Jason in the next book? We also go over some information about Ganymede, since we know he's an integral part of this story. Could Hebe be the Big Bad of Chalice of the Gods? Did you know we (kind of) saw him in Sea of Monsters? Since we know Iris will also be involved, we get some background information on her as well. Surprisingly, our research also mentioned cupcakes and tea! Did we mention how excited we are for this book!? Feedback (01:25:26) Thank you for sharing your Percy Jackson origin story with us, Ian! And thanks again for writing in to us, Caoimhe! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 101, in which we'll discuss Serwa Boateng's Guide to Witchcraft and Mayhem by Roseanne A. Brown! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #73 looks back on our re-read of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Which book is our favorite? Did any of our opinions change now that we're older and wiser? We also tackle all the latest Riordanverse news, including more information about Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods and some books from a few Rick Riordan Presents authors we think you might like. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and updates (00:02:59) We're back to talk about Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods because Read Riordan had a little teaser about what the chickens will get up to in this story. Rick also wrote a blog on February 24 that gave us some information about the UK and international additions, as well as signed copies. We've heard variations of his answer before, but we discuss the latest bit of information regarding whether there will be more Percy Jackson books after Chalice of the Gods. If you love Magnus Chase and Alex Fierro, then Read Riordan has the article for you! Karen wrote a book review for The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi, so be sure to check that out. And don't forget that Lucha of the Night Forest by Tehlor Kay Mejia and Into the Light by Mark Oshiro both come out soon! Percy Jackson and the Olympians Retrospective (00:13:16) Now that we've finished all five books in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, we're doing a bit of a retrospective to see how we feel about them overall. Even though we all remember what happens in The Lightning Thief, we revisit it for reasons. This book is so good at introducing us to this world and the characters that occupy it. Can you imagine if someone was like nah, we don't need anymore books about Percy Jackson? These kids were SO YOUNG, and things just keep getting darker as they grow up. Moving on to Sea of Monsters, it's apparent that this book laid a lot of groundwork for character development. It was nice to see more Clarisse, but this book also brought us Tyson!!! He's so genuine and loveable. He was really the perfect character to teach Percy and Annabeth a valuable lesson. As we start talking about Titan's Curse, we confess which books are our least favorites (but we swear we still love them!). Annabeth is gone for SO LONG in this book. The Hunters of Artemis are so iconic, and it's pretty cool to meet and get to know Artemis better. On a scale from approachable to aloof, where do all of the gods land? We get to say hello to Nico, but we also have to say goodbye to Bianca. Battle of the Labyrinth is such a dense book because there's so much going on. We also have to balance a lot of characters in this book, both new and old. Nico has a lot of feelings, and we can't say we blame him. The Labyrinth is a character in and of itself. That battle at Camp Half-Blood was a lot more significant than we first realized. Now we're onto the The Last Olympian There's a lot of Backstory! in this book. We kind of love that the Battle of Manhattan takes up so much room. That final confrontation is iconic, and so is Percy's decision to turn down immortality. Btw, Percabeth is a go. All right, what's our favorite book, and why? It's difficult choosing a favorite character, but we've got some pretty solid options. There are so many iconic moments from the books, and we can't wait to see them in the show. We should've totally planned to pick out our favorite creatures/monsters, too. We have a lot of favorite quotes to choose from, and it was tough to decide. This time, we stayed away from Percabeth quotes when we could, since we just talked about them in the last episode. This is yet another reminder that Rick is SO good at first lines. Now that we've really dissected these books, did we have any changes of heart? Did anything surprise us? Lastly, what are we looking forward to seeing the most when we finally get to Heroes of Olympus? Feedback (01:29:51) Nicolaas writes in to give us his answers to all our same questions. Karen's in the hot seat…is she gonna be replaced!? Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 74, where we'll do an overview of the Egyptian gods before tackling The Red Pyramid chapter 1. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #71 celebrates Percabeth in honor of Valentine's Day, and we can't wait to talk about how naturally their relationship evolved over the course of all five Percy Jackson and the Olympians books. Plus, we talk about all the latest news in the Riordanverse, including the the Winston Chu vs. the Whimsies sequel title, as well as read and discuss “Percy Jackson and the Staff of Hermes.” Honestly, we kind of impressed ourselves this week, because it was the perfect story to read alongside our PercyxAnnabeth discussion. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and updates (00:03:06) The Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief movie has been out for 13 years! It once again makes us appreciate how long it's taken to get a faithful adaptation of this book. Read Riordan posted a belated Valentine's Day gift guide from some overlooked demigods. While Rachel Elizabeth Dare isn't a demigod, her answer was probably the best out of all of them. There was also a cute little interview between Rick Riordan and Stacey Lee, and we even found out the name of the Winston Chu vs. the Whimsies sequel! Daniel José Older's shop is now open, which means you can get signed copies of his stuff! Jason Gray Stanford has confirmed he'll be in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 as Maron the satyr. Percabeth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) (00:10:55) Valentine's Day seemed like the perfect excuse to talk about Percabeth—especially because we just finished the first series! Let's talk about where they started out in Lightning Thief. It was kind of nice they were strangers and then became friends because of their quest. That Athena vs. Poseidon rivalry is REAL. Grover is the common denominator between these two. That, and being a demigod. That first Seaweed Brain is truly something special. Next up is Sea of Monsters, and things are TENSE. That being said, Annabeth really opens up in this book, though that was sort of out of her control. What's a little kiss on the cheek amongst friends? Titan's Curse is where the feelings start coming hard and fast. The idea of Annabeth becoming a Hunter of Artemis is…not ideal. We hope there's lots of Leah in this season of the show. Aphrodite definitely helps Percy realize his feelings are not just platonic. In Battle of the Labyrinth we get a real kiss! Unfortunately, confusion over Luke, Rachel, and Calypso means these two aren't really on the same page. This extends to The Last Olympian, where they're separated for a good chunk of the book. But that doesn't mean Annabeth wouldn't sacrifice her life for Percy! And what does Percy do in return? Decline immortality, of course. That underwater kiss means these two are definitely together! Was this a fitting conclusion to their relationship? Thank goodness we'll get more in the Heroes of Olympus series. We've both got some favorite moments we want to talk about in depth. And a couple favorite lines that are super special, too. We'll have to do this again when we finish the Heroes of Olympus series. “Percy Jackson and the Staff of Hermes” (00:57:16) We still can't get over how perfect it was that we picked “The Staff of Hermes” to read this week. Percy and Annabeth have been together for one month now! Kristen really felt for Percy in this opening scene. HERNIAS ARE US. Wait, no. That's not right. Karen can appreciate the Mortal Kombat reference, even if it wasn't spelled correctly. Poor George and Martha! This story confirms Luke had feelings for Annabeth, which we're just gonna gloss over. More interestingly, it seems like all has NOT been forgiven between Annabeth and Hermes. It sounds like Janus is still messing up network television. Percy agrees to a deal with Hermes, and they have to stop using Annabeth's shield for a cheese platter. Cacus' hideout was, like, super disgusting. That said, we actually kind of liked him? He has that entrepreneurial spirit! The staff being stolen is kind of a big deal, and this story has a lot more impact on the canon of the series than “The Singer of Apollo” did. Annabeth's shield gets destroyed here, which explains why we don't remember it from the rest of the series! Percy's “solution” to their problem wasn't great. LASER MODE is pretty cool, albeit dangerous. Don't try this at home, kids. HER NAME IS ANNABETH AND SHE'S ONE OF A KIND. With Cacus defeated, Percy and Annabeth get to go on a lovely date for their one-month anniversary. Feedback (01:22:00) JustAPositiveGuy has a great headcanon for Percabeth. Krose reminds us how many great moments for Annabeth and Percy there will be in Heroes of Olympus. We also asked everyone what Percy would've become the god of, and we got some truly inspired answers. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 72, where we'll discuss Winston Chu vs. the Whimsies by Stacey Lee. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #70 wonders what if certain events in Percy Jackson and the Last Olympain were changed? How would it affect the rest of the book, and the series as a whole? Plus, we talk about all the latest news in the Riordanverse, including the Spirit Glass by Roshani Chokshi cover reveal, as well as read and discuss “Percy Jackson and the Singer of Apollo.” We might be done reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians now, but we've still got plenty to discuss before we move onto The Red Pyramid (Kane Chronicles #1). New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and updates (00:02:07) Don't forget that we're giving away THREE copies of J. Maya's debut Ep, Poetic License. Visit us on Instagram and Twitter, and then follow the instructions to enter. Jelena Milinkovic has been cast as the Nereid. Did you catch the Spirit Glass by Roshani Chokshi interview, cover reveal, and excerpt!? Winston Chu vs. the Whimsies by Stacey Lee is now out in the world! Read an excerpt and meet Mr. Pang. Oh, and you can also go read Karen's spoiler-free Winston Chu vs. the Whimsies book review to see if it's something you'd also enjoy! Becky dashes our hopes of getting a Percy Jackson video game anytime soon. What If… season 5: Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian (00:14:56) It's yet again time for another rendition of What If…, where we change one small aspect of the Percy Jackson universe and see how it would affect the rest of the story. Karen's first suggestion isn't very clever, but it's definitely an interesting alternate universe to consider. What if…Kronos had won!? Would the trio even still be alive? Would Hades side with Kronos, or would he just hole up in the Underworld? And what about the rest of the gods? Which ones would be on Kronos' side, which would go into hiding, and which would play double agents? What does the collapse of Western Civilization look like? There's probably a book for that. Would another hero rise in order to kill Kronos? Kristen wonders what if…someone other than Beckendorf had accompanied Percy to the Princess Andromeda? Who would've gone instead, and why is Clarisse such a perfect answer? How would Beckendorf still being alive affected the Battle of Olympus? Would Silena's arc have played out any differently? Rachel writes in to ask what if…Beckendorf had survived the explosion? Kristen's idea gave Karen goosebumps, and now we're kind of bummed it didn't happen that way! Karen was wondering about Silena, too. What if…Silena had been able to convince Clarisse to leave camp? Would she have survived the drakon, and if so, would the others have forgiven her if she hadn't made the ultimate sacrifice? What would her life had been like after that? Would Clarisse have been her friend still? Would Clarisse have even been able to defeat the drakon without the anger over Silena's death that caused the Blessing of Ares? Now Kristen wants to know what if…Percy didn't take a dip in the River Styx? How much would this have changed his relationship with Annabeth? Karen is an optimist and thinks it wouldn't have changed anything. Would more people have died if Percy wasn't invincible? What if…Will Solace had died during the Battle of Manhattan? We've decided Nico and Will still would've been boyfriends forever. What if…Ethan Nakamura had changed sides? How would this have changed the final scene? Would he have played double agent? Rachel writes in to ask what would have happened if Percy did become a god, and our first question is…what would he have been the god of!? Is there any reality in which this could've happened? What other requests could Percy have made? We have SO many cool ideas that would've really shaken up the series. Krose13_99 wants to know what would have happened if the Ares cabin had been there for the whole fight? “Percy Jackson and the Singer of Apollo” (00:57:23) Next up, we're reading a short story that takes place after the events of The Last Olympian. Rick sure does know how to hook you with a first line. What a visual! We're definitely curious to learn more about Juniper and the other dryads and nature spirits. Why is Grover suggesting to pin a tail on the human!? Apollo has a very specific look, and we know exactly what to picture when he's first described. The Chryseae Celedones are super interesting…and very dangerous. We need a whole album of songs Apollo would sing. Isn't it cool that we recognized Apollo's lyre from the time we did the Deep Dive on Hermes? Percy controls the Mist here, and it's kind of a big deal!! Grover is not so great at controlling the magic of the lyre, though. Why didn't anyone tell Percy that the celedon could turn into a bird!? Blackjack is too busy looking for a girlfriend to help out. About when does this short story take place in the chronological timeline? It's a good thing Percy didn't lose more than his pants. Annabeth continues to be Percy's anchor, and we love it so much! Percy is brilliant, and his plan truly is inspired. So much for getting any kind of reward, but at least they didn't have to listen to Apollo sing. Feedback (01:20:55) Nyklaus writes in while we're recording to give us some more What If scenarios. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 71, where we'll tackle Percabeth's arc throughout Percy Jackson and the Olympians, plus discuss “Percy Jackson and the Staff of Hermes.” This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #68 dives into the connection between astrology and Greek mythology—specifically talking about the stories behind the zodiac signs. Plus, we talk about all the latest news in the Riordanverse, including the fact that Zeus and Poseidon have finally been cast in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, as well as read and discuss Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 22. After this, there's only one more chapter to go! New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and updates (00:01:36) Mark gives us some stats on their signing of The Sun and the Star. Is Rick a doodler? We're not so sure he is… It's Nico di Angelo's birthday! This article made us realize we forgot an important detail about his sister, Bianca. Read Riordan answers the question—What exactly ARE the whimsies? Don't forget that Winston Chu vs. the Whimsies by Stacey Lee comes out on February 7! Rick teases a possible blooper reel, and we are HERE for it. Midgard Times (of all places) lets us know about the new Percy Jackson and the Olympians filming end date. And yes, it's now finally time to talk about Rick's January 26 blog post, aka the place where we finally get to meet Zeus and Poseidon. We wonder why they don't announce actors until after they're done filming? We definitely know Lance Reddick from a few places, and he's gonna make an awesome Zeus. And Toby Stephens? We just learned a VERY interesting fact about him this morning. We might be a little less familiar with him, but you can't deny he looks like he's gonna be an awesome Poseidon. We wonder which demigods won't show up in season 1. Will Argus be completely CGI in the show? Astrology and Greek mythology (00:32:28) First, we've got to talk about the Babylonians. Did you know there were originally about 17 or 18 constellations in the zodiac? Aries was first associated with a shepherd, and then later with the ram. Even the Egyptians kept this meaning, which they associated with Amon-Ra (no relation to the football player). Everything comes back to Percy Jackson, which is excellent news for us, a Percy Jackson podcast. Taurus is tied to the spring equinox, which leads down some interesting paths that we are choosing not to explore too deeply. We're already noticing a pattern with Herakles… Moving into Gemini, we meet Castor and Pollux, which are a pair of names you've probably heard before, even if you aren't familiar with the mythological origins. Cancer seems to be a bit of a newer constellation. Surprise, surprise, Herakles is once again involved in this one. Have you read Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons? The constellation of Leo has been associated with the lion for a long time and amongst many different cultures. We never knew Hera was the Oprah of constellations. Unfortunately for Kristen specifically, the stories behind Virgo and Libra are very confusing. Demeter, Astraea, Dike, and Persephone are all possible players in this game. We try to puzzle out how all of these figures are associated with the zodiac and it breaks our brains a little bit. Kristen keeps making How I Met Your Mother references and they go right over Karen's head. In case you were wondering, this is NOT a Brooklyn Nine-Nine podcast. Scorpio's myth is pretty straight forward. Babylonia probably saw more scorpions than jellyfish. The god Nergal from Babylonian mythology is somehow even stranger than Chiron and his human legs. There were simply no constellations before Herakles. It seems Capricorn has always been a goat-fish. Okay, it feels a little TOO convenient that Pan could just grow a fishtail to escape. No matter how you spin it, Aquarius is associated with flooding. This sign is also associated with Ganymede, who we'll meet in Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods. There are so many things we're just gonna skip over. Shapeshifting was a PLAGUE back in the day, apparently. We go on a WHOLE journey about ichthyocentaurs and Camp Fish-Blood. Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian (01:14:40) Let's talk about The Last Olympian chapter 22. Rainbow came to visit, and we're so happy!! How did Rachel get into Camp Half-Blood unscathed? And why wasn't Chiron more concerned about Rachel's fate!? Do you think they'll push Rachel's story to earlier in the TV series in case we don't get a Heroes of Olympus series? The Great Prophecy is officially Prophecy Count #32! The memorials were super sad and beautiful at the same time. We're so happy Nico got the credit and acceptance he deserves!! Annabeth and Tyson have come such a long way as friends!! We kind of wish we had a bit more Percabeth at the end here. Rick is CRUEL for naming this chapter “I Am Dumped.” How did neither one of us pick “And it was pretty much the best underwater kiss of all time”!? The end of this chapter is just so ICONIC. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 69, where we'll have a chat with J. Maya about music—both her own and what she'd like to see in the show. Prophecy Radio episode #58 sees the hosts talking about food. Specifically, what kind of food represents each of the main Olympian gods (plus Hades)? In addition to this, the hosts discuss all the latest news in the Riordanverse, including the casting of Hades and Hephaestus for Percy Jackson and the Olympians, as well as reread and discuss Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 12. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:03:23) Read Riordan released another OTP timelines article, this time about Nico di Angelo and Will Solace. Then, we try to guess which gods said what in the Riordanverse. Did you do better than us?? You probably did. Let's talk about the November 11 blog post. What moments from The Lightning Thief do they need an underwater set for? The Underworld set is going to be AMAZING. It's so interesting to think which gods we're going to see this season and which have to wait. It has been confirmed and confirmed again: No actors from the Percy Jackson movies will appear in Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+. It's so amazing to hear that the studio partners keep giving them excellent notes and that everything has been super collaborative. We got another update for Daughter of the Deep! How long do you think it'll be until that movie comes out? Make sure you've ordered The Sun and the Star by Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro. Hopefully we're able to go to an in-person tour stop for this book, but if not, maybe we can catch the virtual event. Okay, it's time for the November 18 blog post, which is all about new casting. First up is Jay Duplass as Hades. Do we know Jay from anything? One of our friends is definitely excited for this one! We've also got Timothy Omundson as Hephaestus! Is there a better, more prolific actor for this role?? We think not! Kristen makes a confession that SHOCKS Karen to the core. We do a lot of speculating about how Hephaestus' role could be expanded for the show. Divine recipes (00:40:41) It's almost Thanksgiving here in the United States, so let's talk about food! Despite the fact that Zeus' recipe inspired Karen to come up with this series, Kristen had the most trouble with him! We both definitely tried to incorporate weather somehow. How do you turn Hera's personality into a recipe?? We agreed it had to be something homemade and comforting. For Poseidon, is there really any choice other than seafood? Kristen went for freshness and Karen went for abundance, but both work really well! And no, there's no blue JELL-O with goldfish inside. Hades definitely demands some sort of MEAT. We both also incorporated fire in different ways. And maybe the Italian flag?? Athena was a little bit of a tricky one, but we both knew it HAD to involve olives or olive oil in some way. Plus, it had to be light and have enough substance to sustain you during battle! Kristen's pick for Ares was honestly the best recipe out of the entire list. We both knew it had to be meat, and it had to be violent. Kristen also describes Ares in the nicest way possible. Next up is Dionysus, and we go in two different directions for this one. Kristen was thinking parties, and Karen was thinking wine. How could you go wrong with either? Kristen knew she HAD to work oranges into her recipe for Apollo. Karen had a similar reasoning for going with her choice for Apollo as well. Artemis is next on our list, and Kristen had a really clever way of working one of her major symbols into her choice. Why did we both think Artemis was vegetarian?? She's the goddess of the HUNT. And yes, Karen found a way to incorporate mushrooms. Obviously. Hephaestus is such an interesting god to find a recipe for, and apparently Kristen had NO trouble with this one. That being said, we think of Hephaestus VERY differently. For Aphrodite, are there any options other than chocolate?? Callie interrupts us to eat a little bit of dinner. Whatever Aphrodite gets, it has to be elegant and decadent. Demeter is an interesting one, but Kristen found a really good recipe for that. Meanwhile, Karen went with something a little more classic. Hermes was another god who was really fun and interesting to come up with recipes for. Seriously, tacos are so versatile and they're good to eat on the go! Our last god on the list is Hestia, and we knew from the get-go it would be a little bit difficult. Whatever her meal is, it's gotta be roasted over an open fire! Was this fun? Did you like it? Should we do some more? Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian (01:24:45) It's time to talk about The Last Olympian chapter 12. Is this the first time we're meeting Will Solace? He must be an excellent healer if Percy is allowing him to look after Annabeth. How much does Pompona look like Demeter? Watch out for that foreshadowing! It'll bite you right on the nose. We really wanted to root for you, Ethan! We're really feeling the Percabeth vibes in this chapter!! There was a point in time where Luke wanted to run away from Kronos and everything he had to do. How do we feel about this? Grover returns to deliver some bad news and eat some furniture. Karen totally forgets the word for hellhounds. We're officially up to Prophecy Count #27. Nico needs to learn the delicate art of listening to your elders. Did Maria di Angelo make the right call, or was she being naïve? Zeus would totally kill children. Poor Persephone would've been forced to live with Hades' mistress. YIKES. Hades goes full God of Death on the Oracle, and we just feel so bad for her. Rachel's father is kind of the worst. Kristen has ANOTHER confession. Feedback (02:00:40) Henry lets us know that there's a Mythic Quest/Percy Jackson crossover…in Becky's dreams. Phoebe tries to help us out with the whole sand dollar problem. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 59, where we'll do a Monster Guide on pit scorpions. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #45 celebrates Percy Jackson's birthday by discussing the latest news, taking some quizzes, testing the hosts' trivia skills, and discovering what NOT to gift a demigod. Kristen and Karen also discuss “Percy Jackson and the Bronze Dragon” as well as “Percy Jackson and the Sword of Hades.” They'll return next week to start rereading Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:02:06) Percy Jackson and the Olympians was filming a non-book scene on August 8. Make sure you grab a copy of the Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky graphic novel. Not sure if it's your jam? Check out the preview on Read Riordan. Walker Scobell's Secret Headquarters is now out on Paramount+. Speaking of Walker, he likes when Percy gets angry. Becky reminds everyone this is not out of character. Variety's Power of Young Hollywood Impact Report 2022 is out, and it features none other than Walker Scobell! And, of course, Becky has nothing but nice things to say. James Bobin is heading home! The Empire State Building has been cryptic for DAYS. The cover reveal for Graci Kim's The Last Fallen Realm is STUNNING. Happy birthday, Dior Goodjohn, who turned 16 on August 13! Let's check out Rick's August 13 blog post. On-set catering is SUPER important, and we love that Rick thanked them for their hard work. Steph Lurie is a rockstar, and we're so happy she made it to set. They don't necessarily film in order, and at any given time, different people are working on different aspects of various episodes. Rick does tell us roughly where they are in the story right now, though. And yes, there are some added scenes, which are Rick Riordan-approved! Apparently Aryan and the dryads and satyrs are hilarious and amazing. Rick even has trouble picturing anyone but these three as the trio now. We catch up on updates about the Daughter of the Deep and Kane Chronicles adaptations. Happy birthday, Percy Jackson! (00:21:41) Here are the 5 gifts you should NEVER give a demigod. If you want to try your hand at finding some (mostly) natural blue foods, we've got a list for you! Which Percy Jackson creature are you? Are you ready for some Percy Jackson trivia? It's time to read “Percy Jackson and the Bronze Dragon”! When does this story take place? In most cases, giant ants are not a great sign. So…this is Festus, right?? Did you know Greek dragons don't usually have wings? Do you think the demigods will make use of this newfound anthill? How much of this did Annabeth actually plan? This story had a ton of action, but there was a lot of Percabeth love, too! Let's talk about “Percy Jackson and the Sword of Hades.” When does this one take place? Are Sally and Paul already married!? Why did the Mist turn Mrs. O'Leary into a poodle? The Persephone from this story is very different from her depiction in the movie. Hades' sword seems like a pretty epic (and dangerous) weapon. We see the return of Ethan Nakamura! Escaping the Underworld and defying death is NOT easy. Could these short stories ever appear in the show? Despite his injuries, Percy remains a total badass the entire time. Will we learn more about Nico's mom? How amazing is it that Percy has no ghosts!? Hello, Bob!!! Turns out Persephone is a tricky little devil. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 46, in which we'll discuss our What If…? season 4 ideas relating to Battle of the Labyrinth. We'll also be diving into The Last Olympian, reading one chapter at a time. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Each episode, our Prophecy Radio hosts and their guests will keep you up to date on the latest information coming out of Camp Half-Blood, including upcoming books and adaptation news, discuss a topic of choice, and do a chapter by chapter reread of the Percy Jackson series. Prophecy Radio episode #39 takes a look at Disney's Hercules and compares his story to both Greek mythology and the way he's portrayed in Percy Jackson. In addition, the hosts tackle all the latest news, completely geeking out over the type of technology Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be using on set, as well as read Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth chapters 11 and 12. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:26) Check out what Percy & Co. are doing this summer. Kristen had the perfect Father's Day present for Percy to give to Poseidon. Next up, Read Riordan makes us feel old. We wish the Pride month post had been brought back. Let's go through Rick's June 28 blog post! It's nice to hear how excited Rick is for the show. If you want to hear us geek out about the production stage the show will be using, you're in luck! Not only is this awesome in terms of technological advancements, it's also amazing for practical reasons (like the actors envisioning the environment around them). Here's the Mandalorian BTS video we discussed. We're wholly unprepared for how realistic the backgrounds are going to be. Let's learn a little bit about game engine technology. There are so many benefits to using this kind of technology. Should we do a bigger, more in-depth episode about this technology? Disney's Hercules (00:18:28) We love this movie! But it's interesting seeing it through a different lens. Hercules is a very colorful movie (probably for the kids, but we loved it too). Don't watch this movie for an accurate account of Greek culture/history/mythology. We know why they had to Disney-fy this story. Did they do a role reversal between Hades and Zeus? They used roughly the same story and same players but made the heroes and villains much clearer. Justice for the cyclopes! We need the cast of Percy Jackson to watch this movie and give us reactions as their characters. Did you know anything about Philoctetes from myth? Because we definitely didn't. Does it make sense that they turned him into a satyr? Now it's time to get into Hercules' tragic story. Did you catch all the references to the 12 Labors? At least the movie gives Meg a better role. Why isn't Meg considered a princess!? How is Hercules usually portrayed in pop culture? Are there any bad representations of Hercules? Percy Jackson is one of the few that makes him more human and failable. This isn't out of malice; it seems there are some very good reasons for this. We only touched the surface of Hercules' myths—we didn't even talk about the 12 Labors! What do you say to us revisiting this movie and talking about ALL the differences? And what about doing a Deep Dive into Hercules' story from mythology? Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth chapter reviews (00:50:27) It's time to get back to Battle of the Labyrinth chapter 11. Do we like Hephaestus as a god? How long until we see Grover and Tyson again? Does Annabeth have a belly button? We figured out why the telkhines sounded so familiar. We're so bad at pronunciation! What do we think about Percabeth's first kiss? Is Percy OP if he can't control his powers? Will he ever use that whistle? Now let's get into Battle of the Labyrinth chapter 12. This chapter was necessary after everything Percy had just gone through. What do we think of Calypso? Did she have a good introduction? We'll be curious to see her pop up again later. She and Percy have a very nuanced conversation about loyalty and good vs. evil. Hephaestus doesn't pressure Percy to make a certain decision, and we appreciate that. Where is Annabeth right now? Where's Rachel Elizabeth Dare? Rick was doing what ifs before we were! If the gods just communicated more, they would have fewer problems. Feedback (01:26:30) Megan wrote in to ask us about dedicated episodes for each of the Rick Riordan Presents book. We also gave you a little insight into what we have coming up! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 40, where we'll do a deep dive into Athena, goddess of wisdom and war! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then discuss our What If…? season 3 scenarios—aka the Titan's Curse edition—as well as review Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth chapters 3 and 4. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:00:54) Read Riordan tells us what to do in the event we lose our divine weapon. It's amazing to see how many Rick Riordan Presents books you can read to celebrate AANHPI month! Who doesn't want some PJOTV news!? We recently found out Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 1 will start filming on June 2. We also learned they recently did a table read and that Becky is SUPER excited for the actor playing Chiron. Social media is great for BTS videos and pictures. Make sure you're following the Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast. But it's smart to keep in mind that not every kid they're hanging out with is going to be on the show. James Bobin is testing the cameras, and even that makes us emotional. Mark Oshiro says the Solangelo book is done with the major edits! We also learned about how long it is, and we are so excited! Did you see the trailer for Idris Elba Leah's new movie, Beast? Mark your calendars! The Last Fallen Moon by Graci Kim now has a new release date. What If…? season 3—Titan's Curse (00:19:44) You can listen to What If…? season 1 on Prophecy Radio episode #9 and What If…? season 2 on Prophecy Radio episode #23. Thanks, Rachel, for reminding us about doing one for Titan's Curse! Should we do an episode about how they could've improved the movies with a Titan's Curse adaptation? This book has a lot of pivotal moments and makes for a great What If…? episode. Karen wonders what if…Zoë had survived? Thalia would be the likely target for the one dying at their parent's hand, but what if it was Percy instead? Kristen wants to know what if…Dr. Chase was a terrible father? This could have major ripple effects down the line. Karen now needs to know what if…Percy never met Rachel Elizabeth Dare at the Hoover Dam? This might not have made as much of an impact down the line, but would Percy and Annabeth have gone on their date!? Now Kristen is curious what if…Luke let Annabeth die? We're gonna go ahead and just say no to this whole scenario. Fast-forwarding to Karen's next question: What if…Luke had died at the end of the book? Who would've become Kronos' vessel? Kristen's actually got a nice one now: What if…Nico didn't blame Percy for Bianca's death? Would it have taken a lot longer to find out who Nico's godly parent was? Thank you to everyone who wrote in their own What If…? scenarios! What…if Luke had been the one turned into a tree? What if…Percy had gone missing instead of Annabeth? What if…Nico, Bianca, and Percy had never gone outside with Dr. Thorne? What if…Zoë had killed Atlas? What if…Nico snuck away on the quest like Percy? Battle of the Labyrinth chapter reviews (00:56:52) We're so happy we're back to reading our chapters for the week! It's time to talk about Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth chapter 3! We finally find out what Clarisse's secret quest was! By the way, we're totally here for this Clarisse and Annabeth friendship. Luke trying to navigate the labyrinth is…not a good thing. Rick's concept of Ariadne's string is really interesting here. Pan being trapped in the labyrinth would make SO much sense. We are totally here for Annabeth breaking some rules. Is it weird we're kind of into the war games? Thank goodness Annabeth knows…everything. The labyrinth is a little timey-wimey. Grover, as always, has genius comedic timing. Everything has been building to Percabeth, and we are HERE for it. Now it's time for Battle of the Labyrinth chapter 4! Prophecy Count #16! It's more of a dream of the past than anything else, but it totally counts. We're so glad we did a Monster Guide episode on the Minotaur! It's not often Clarisse has emotions other than anger, but we love her growth. Can we make going to the Oracle a little less dangerous?? We want Quintus to be good, but he's super suspicious. Callie weighs in on Theseus, son of Poseidon. Does Clarisse have feelings about Chris Rodriguez? Prophecy Count #17! It's a very important prophecy, and Annabeth is totally not fooling into believing she forgot the last lines. Annabeth breaks the rules AGAIN. But it's so nice to see Annabeth and Tyson's relationship growing stronger. Single-use items are THE WORST. Okay, BUT THE PERCABETH HUG!? Grover really, really doesn't like caves. Callie stole Kristen's favorite moment—how rude! The Percabeth hug really was the best part of this chapter, though. Feedback (01:29:47) Caoimhe writes in again and makes us feel AWESOME. We're REALLY excited to start the Kane Chronicles series. And, oh boy, she likes the longer episodes! Can you tell our voices apart yet? Check out Prophecy Radio episode #4 for our Daughter of the Deep discussion. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 35, in which we may do a Percy Jackson and the Olympians fancasting roundup OR we might do a Monster Guide on hellhounds. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom (including the casting of Annabeth and Grover), then do a deep dive on Hades, god of the Underworld (plus fancast him for Percy Jackson and the Olympians), as well as finish out Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse with chapters 19 and 20. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:31) #BattleOfTheLabyrinthWeek is wrapping up, just in time for #LastOlympianWeek! May 3 saw a lot of book releases, including Francis Discovers Possible by Ashlee Latimer and Ballad & Dagger by Daniel José Older. Read Karen's Ballad & Dagger book review. You can also go to Read Riordan to find Rick's introduction to Ballad & Dagger. You can also now buy the Percy Jackson books with covers by Victo Ngai. That Hashtag Show reported casting information for Clarisse La Rue and Nancy Bobofit. In Rick's May 5 blog post, he tells us…THE TRIO IS COMPLETE. Please welcome Aryan Simhadri as Grover! Have you seen Cheaper By the Dozen on Disney+? Because we haven't. Aryan seems like such a cool kid, and everything about him screams Grover. Also welcome Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth! She's had some pretty major roles, too! Remember, according to Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan, Leah is exactly the way he always imagined Annabeth. Let's just talk about it: There's been a lot of vitriol surrounding Annabeth's casting, and it seems clear why. Our listeners are great, but we just want to remind people of the #PJOCastDeservesRespect campaign anyway. If Rick is happy, we're happy. The artwork of the trio is already so good! We have an official Twitter and Instagram account for the show! Becky says the fans scooped up all the good handles lol. Make sure you check out #PJOSeriesArt. Deep Dive: Hades (00:32:16) There is a lot to discuss when it comes to Hades. Do we feel bad for Hades? Zeus is such a butt face. Did he rig the game when they were picking their domains? There are SO many Hades and Persephone retellings, so go looking for them! Persephone eating those pomegranate seeds was a super big deal. Hades was a decent guy…for a god. Zeus straight up just complicated everything. Hades needs to go to Kidnappers Anonymous. But even his affairs weren't as bad as, say, Zeus'. It's interesting to see how the Underworld has evolved over time. And especially amazing to see how he figured out the best way to communicate new death rites to the human race. Did you know Cerberus was a DOG SNAKE? What does Hades look like in the Percy Jackson series? Karen and Kristen get hung up on the word bident. Hades has a lot of abilities. Like a lot a lot. Umbrakinesis is a cool power and more superheroes should have it. We want Mythomagic to be real! Hades is actually a pretty hard worker, which is probably a good thing. It's FINALLY time for our Hades casting. Karen's got jokes. But her first pick is actually someone we've talked about before. Kristen's first choice is someone who has the ability to truly become the character they're portraying. Karen's second pick might be kind of obvious, but he'd be SO GOOD. Kristen's next choice is NO JOKE. Just think about it. Karen's third choice has been in the running for a few others, but she's finally decided to go for it. Kristen's third pick is a combo package, and both people can totally pull off pale. Karen picked a pretty wholesome looking guy for her last choice, but she thinks it could work! Kristen cannot be stopped, and she's got TWO more candidates for Hades left. Shout-out to Alan Rickman for being our dream pick, though. If you're looking for a classically handsome Hades, Kristen's got the actor for you. Kristen's number one choice gives serious Alan Rickman vibes, so he'd be perfect! We also had a couple listeners write in with their own Hades fancasts! Chapter Reviews (01:41:16) It's time to finish up this book, starting with Titan's Curse chapter 19! This book is pretty pivotal to the entire Percy Jackson series. We meet some gods we haven't seen before! Is Athena's fatal flaw her lack of emotion? There are some really fantastic Percabeth moments in these chapters. Did it make sense that Thalia joined the Hunters? Percy Jackson is The One. Why did Ares want to destroy the ophiotaurus? The way the music worked was pretty cool. We learn what Percy's fatal flaw is, and…it makes a lot of sense, tbh. Percy and Annabeth finally get their moment! They have gray streaks that *match* exactly. It's time to talk about Titan's Curse chapter 20. PROTECT TYSON AT ALL COSTS. Percy and Tyson's relationship has come so far. And can we just talk about how mature Percy is!? Who's more terrifying, Ares or Aphrodite? We get an update on pretty much everyone. Why did they wait to tell Nico about Bianca until Percy got there? Hello Nico di Angelo, son of Hades! We only got ONE hint about the di Angelos' lineage—did you catch it? Percy taking on the prophecy is…heavy. It's awesome that we're still talking about Pan, even in the third book. That's a wrap! We're so excited about Battle of the Labyrinth! Feedback (02:22:17) Will we ever discuss what kind of music we would like to see in the show? When will this show take place? It's so fun when new people find us! Keep reading the Rick Riordan Presents books!! We also got another Ares fancast, and Karen gives everyone her true reactions. Thanks to Henry for his correction about Chris Wood! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 32, where we'll discuss the short story “Percy Jackson and the Stolen Chariot” (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) from the Demigod Files. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Drumroll please…. It's PERCY TIME!!! We are thrilled to once again be reading about our beloved Percy Jackson, our favorite cop car stealing boy (Jason could never). Percy gives us a bag tour. We get emotional about Percabeth. We wonder if our parents are secretly deities. Manasa makes the bold statement that all Romans are furries and, in a twist of events, comes down in defense of Freud. We learn about Camp Jupiter, meet some new friends, and talk lots about Percy. //////////// SUPPORT US ON PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/camphalfpod?fan_landing=true SEND US AN AUDIO MESSAGE: https://anchor.fm/camp-half-pod --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/camp-half-pod/support

Welcome to Chapter/Episode 20! Lauren gives the best description of the podcast so far (provided in part by Rick Riordan) and Lochlyn gets a little emotional over a cute Percabeth moment, don't worry we didn't forget about Grover. This is an action packed episode filled with death and destruction and Lauren being really annoyed by a lack of rules in a fight (and no Lochlyn it's not that it's an unfair fight it's the lack of organization and understanding on the rules of the fight by both parties involved in said fight). Either way grab some popcorn (or ambrosia and nectar) and settle in for this episode of We Accidentally Vaporized Our Podcast!

Ch. 29-37, Pure Percy and Annabeth POV with returning guest Ola Amokomowo! Percy is feeling like maybe he's not the main character anymore, getting humbled by every new challenge he faces, and wondering if, given the chance, he'd save Annabeth... or the quest. Annabeth on the other hand is being #AnxiousAvoidant, getting ready to go solo on her near impossible mission to locate and rescue the Athena Parthenos. Together, they have a lunch date on the river Tiber, our last calm Percabeth moment for, well, a while. Plus, perhaps the greatest Riordanverse Villain intro of all time!
Vulnerability is hard, but the work that Brayden, Niamh, and Ava do is harder.
