The Digital Hub, in partnership with Aisling Murray and with the support of Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), are putting in place plans for a new international arts and technology festival for Ireland. Beta, which will take place across 4 days in November, is seeking to critically engage with technology's impact on society through a combination of creativity, debate, and experimentation. Beta will focus on a number of key themes which are dominating the technology discussion at present, including artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, data rights and sustainability. The festival has identified a need to bring together Ireland's research and digital arts communities in order to foster a discussion about how the two disciplines can combine for the benefit of society. Beta is led by Aisling Murray, a curator and creative producer with 15 years of experience across exhibitions, festivals, literature, spoken word, theatre and dance. She most recently worked with the Goethe-Institut Irland in developing their Quantum Technology Art residency and curated the inaugural art and science stage at Electric Picnic, funded by SFI. Prior to this, she worked for Science Gallery Dublin, where she produced national and international creative programmes converging art, science, technology and society. Ultimately, the festival organisers are aiming to position Ireland as a leader in the intersection of art and technology programming in an audience-centred way to engage the public playfully and critically with new technologies. Beta will also include performances, discussions, workshops and a nighttime programme over the four days. Beta has already confirmed a number of acclaimed artists to participate in this year's festival, including Libby Heaney, Leon Butler and Peter Power. Two unique works have been commissioned to support the launch of Beta. Artist Leon Butler has imagined what the identity of a festival of art and technology could be and has generated a new font seen in the Beta logo. The final logo almost looks hand drawn or screen printed with beautifully imperfect edges - this intersection of cutting-edge technology and human creativity is exactly what Beta will explore with the festival. Beta's website, which launched today, features a new commission from artist and designer Farouk Alao. Specialising in 3D motion and web design, he has drawn inspiration from nature, his world, and human emotions. His vision explores the intersection of reality and imagination. The motion piece on Beta's website called the Beta cube, positions Beta as a centre point in which art, technology and creativity resolve and makes use of the unique font designed by Butler. Beta is also launching a new international residency in partnership with transmediale in Berlin, supported by the Arts Council of Ireland. Transmediale is one of the leading and longest-running festivals for art and digital culture in Europe. The Beta x transmediale residency will bring together four artists from Ireland and Germany to explore critical perspectives on artificial intelligence and digital art. Taking place as a hybrid residency with two weeks online, three weeks in Dublin, Ireland and 3 weeks in Berlin, Germany, the residency programme will provide space, resources and mentorship to four artists to develop new artworks that generate new imaginaries around climate resilience and political polarization. Aisling Murray, Director of Beta, said: "Beta has the potential to really put Ireland on the map in terms of the intersection of research, technology and digital arts. Each of these disciplines continues to grow from strength to strength, which is why it's very timely that Beta is now coming to fruition. The Digital Hub are the ideal co-founder for this with their experience both creatively and with industry, I'm so grateful for their support and excited to create an anchor point in the year for the communities interested in these themes. I'm hugely excited for what is...

In this episode (recorded a few months ago during Ireland's second lockdown) Sinéad, Peter and Isaac talk about the challenges of creating a sound experience for live-streaming as opposed to a theatre or venue; from technical equipment and software at both ends, to emerging technologies that are developing to suit new needs. They also share their experiences in theatre, where sound design has been, in general, brought in very late in the process, and the difficulties this entails at many levels. For Isaac, sound should be a main part in developing the theatre narrative and therefore sound designers should be a key part of the creative process. Peter Power believes that sound design is becoming more important but conversations need to happen at national level with policy makers; he also thinks that this milieu is changing as new generations of theatre artists are embracing new approaches to the creative process. For Sinéad, one of the key aspects is the obsolescence of the tech model, which has remained the same for a long time, even if the technologies have changed drastically. They also reflect on the lack of sound design training or education specific to theatre, sound design being by nature very interdisciplinary, and the implications of such. Finally, they talk about collaborating with other designers, and issues related to terminology, like the sometimes not very clear difference between sound designer and composer, and the implications of conflating both roles. A musician by training and entrepreneur by accident! Ladies and gentlemen buckle up I give you Peter Powell or Peter Power as I like to call him. Peter is the man that can make your dreams as a musician come true in the sense that he has the knowledge that makes a musician get concerts. Going from studying music to working as one takes more than just musical knowledge. In this episode we talk about how to get concerts from the practice room to the stage and having an audience that listens to you and how to get to play in festivals, we also talk about Team Academy that is the new school model of learning business here in Maastricht and all over the world. We talk about Peters blog where he writes about how to set goals and reach them. Peter gives us some tips and tricks on Facebook management and poster making. This episode contains lots of inspiration and knowledge that we wish we knew when we start our work as a musician. Peter was the man who kicked my butt out of the practice room and in to working as a musician and getting a lot of paid concerts. Now I like to share him with you. What a night ! Thank you Global Hybrid and Rafael Aragon for inviting me to play during this 11th edition of Deep Tribal & Ethno Techno at the Zodiak from 3h30 to 6h30. This is my 3h set with intense deep tech, melodic techno, progressive and oriental good tunes. The recording session started after 15 sec from the start of the set :-) More info about the event: For the eleventh installment of its DEEP TRIBAL & ETHNO TECHNO party at ZODIAK, Global Hybrid Records takes you to Brazil, right on point for the carnival season, by inviting some of its most groundbreaking artists. If you've been following and attending our parties these last two years, then you've probably heard of the VOODOOHOP collective (remember R Vincenzo & Peter Power ?). Hailing from Sao Paulo's most underground parties, this gathering of artists has spread its slow-rave neo-tropicalist sound to the globe's most interesting festivals and clubs. We are really thrilled to welcome this time URUBU MARINKA, one of Voodoohop's most brilliant artists. Now living in Germany, this producer and dj extraordinaire comes from the most african city of South America, Salvador de Bahia. She's known for her slow, ravy organic sound and her sense of storytelling through music. Be ready for an unforgetable closing set ! Also emerging from Sao Paulo's nightlife, the genre-breaking, art-blending hedoist duet VENGA, VENGA is finally returning to Brussels ! They mesmerized the crowd during their first appearance in 2016, and we couldn't be happier to bring back this colourful, eclectic guys ! They released last year their first EP, co-produced by our common friend Miret, and they are now rich of the experience of many gigs throughout Europe and South America. We can't wait to experience their new hybrid set ! Another talented duo is coming back for our immense pleasure, french-brazilian Psycho Tropiques, from the hyper-active parisian collective and label Curuba. They will be joined by two wonderful belgian artists, globe-trotter dj and sound purveyor Paulinska and visual artist and dj Piccaya, well know in the Belgian and European burner community. Last but not least, you will enjoy banging sets from our residents Alizarina the gypsy-techno clarinet wizard and Rafael Aragon for a trance-inducing ethnodelic roller-coaster. As usual, expect some eye-candy decoration from the Global Hybrid family and a chill-out space to breathe between two sweaty dance sessions !

Peter Power is a medium. He saturates himself with input from the ambience of his environment, from the beating of his own and others' hearts. Channeling his inspirations into mixes that oscillate, vibrate, pulsate, girate, elongate - his own edits, remixes and productions reveal a celestial sound that is unique to him. After emerging from a darker place these past few years, this mix is his attempt to reconnect with the warmer light of humanity. We asked Peter what his third eye means to him. His answer: it's the feedback between inner and outer self. We'll take that as an impulse and let him guide us to a sacred place inside ourselves and outside the constraints of the body self. His message to the listener is simple: awake into life! The Mind Renewed : Thinking Christianly in a New World Order
Writer, researcher and film-maker Tom Secker joins us for a detailed interview on 7/7 (the July 7th 2005 London bombings). Drawing upon his several years of research, Tom shares with us many of the problems with the official story, delves into the backstories behind the alleged suicide bombers, and uncovers layer upon layer of suspicious information suggesting that 7/7 may well have been a false-flag terror event instigated by British Intelligence. Tom also discusses how, in the run-up to the attacks, predictive programming in popular culture may have shaped public perception of 7/7, and how cognitive infiltration as a double bluff has negatively impacted the quest for 7/7 truth.
