After a quick taste test of some new ketone drinks and a chat about low-acid coffee, Greg and I dive deep into why we're raising the base price of the bricks for the first time since launching back in 2018. It's a move we didn't take lightly, but the math doesn't lie—costs are up across the board, and this change is necessary to keep serving our amazing community without cutting corners or compromising on quality. We talk about how Keto Brick started with just Crystal and me making bricks in our kitchen after hours, what's changed since then, and why the mission has always been about offering the cleanest, most functional performance bar on the market—not just chasing profit. We also introduce our brand-new loyalty program, built to reward our most dedicated customers with perks like points, tiered benefits, and potentially early access to flavor launches.Beyond that, we chat about parenting in a tech-saturated world, upcoming bodybuilding plans (2027, anyone?), prepping for our next show, and even a story about rescuing a stranded neighbor. As always, it's raw, it's real, and it's all about keeping it honest with the people who support us.Appreciate y'all more than you know. Let's keep moving forward—together.
In this one, we talk training, team updates, and how much we appreciate the folks who support us. I just wrapped up a brutal 20-mile march to qualify for the 50-miler later this year—feet are wrecked, but we made it. We also launched our tallow Cookie Dough flavor this weekend… and it sold out in 24 minutes! Wild.We break down the three kinds of customers we hear from during launches and why we're going all-in on a new loyalty program to show some love to the folks who've been with us since day one.On the creative side, we're redesigning the apparel website, learning the ins and outs of paid advertising, and planning some ad content that's actually fun to watch. We also get into regenerative farming, tiers of nutrition, and what it really means to know where your food comes from.Register For My FREE Masterclass: https://www.ketobodybuilding.com/registration-2Get Keto Brick: https://www.ketobrick.com/Subscribe to the podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/42cjJssghqD01bdWBxRYEg?si=1XYKmPXmR4eKw2O9gGCEuQGreg Mahler is also a lifetime natural bodybuilder, and can be followed on InstagramWalked 20 miles to qualify for the 50-mile marchTallow cookie dough flavor sold out in just 24 minutesBroke down the 3 types of customers we hear from during launchesAnnounced a new Keto Brick loyalty program (in progress!)Apparel website is getting a full refreshWe're learning paid ads from scratch to get sharper with contentShoutout to a local regenerative farmer doing it rightLaid out the 4 tiers of nutrition, from fast food to full food transparencyCanceled the spring retreat to stay home with Crystal before baby #2Brainstorming new ad videos with personality, value, and humor
This one's packed with all kinds of good stuff, y'all.Greg and I kicked things off with some cowboy tunes and dove straight into our new full body training split—what's working, what's brutal (looking at you, Bulgarian split squats), and why we're loving it for prep. We also covered some solid strategies for eating clean while on the road, even if you're stuck at a gas station with limited options. We talked about:Staying disciplined while traveling (hard boiled eggs, dukes, and cooler hacks)Why most people crash diet and what we recommend insteadDialing back caffeine and how much is too muchOur new Keto Brick flavor: Tallow Cookie Dough—small batch, big flavorWhy ingredient quality matters, and how rising cacao prices pushed us toward tallowThe dream of full vertical integration (think: our own cacao and cattle farms)Why camping + flexibility in training = peace of mindGreg's Tesla days, drag racing memories, and old-school muscle car dreamsBalancing life, family, sleep, business, and prep without losing your mindIf you're trying to live this lifestyle and build something meaningful while staying grounded in health and discipline, this one's for you. The podcast, a sub-series of The Savage Perspective, is titled The Work, aiming to provide an unfiltered, raw take on their daily grind, challenges, and industry insights.Key Takeaways:Introduction & Purpose of the PodcastRobert and Greg discuss how the stars never align perfectly, so they're embracing the reality of recording even when life feels chaotic. The podcast aims to pull back the curtain on their businesses, the entrepreneurial journey, and the various projects they have in motion. Background of the HostsGreg Mahler, aka Keto Greg, has been in the ketogenic bodybuilding space for 11 years. Our beliefs and the way our brains have been programmed with all the nutrition dogmas that have been enforced on us by our parents, our peers, even ourselves researching the vast array of data that is at our fingertips has more to do with our health issues than the food itself. You hear me preach all the time that it's not about the food. Rather, what if our stubborn weight, our relenting fatigue, our histamine issues, our oxalate issues, our digestive issues, our sleep issues have more to do with how are brain is programmed to believe that the food reacts with us. And what if we break down the programming and start to really nourish ourselves with a clean slate about what healthy means to us as individuals? To help you understand how our beliefs have more to do with our health issues than any food itself could, I've brought on a friend of mine and highly educated human being doing some great work, Ryan Mintz founder of the Higher Ideal, a compassionate educator and researcher and today we are going to enlighten you into why we get stuck in the paradigms of lose/gain, sick/well/sick again, patterns of diets and why they don't work, our beliefs surrounding our bodies and how to de-program your brain and beliefs. I want to brief you on Ryan's journey of health just before we get started since I'm sure many of us will relate in some way.... From the precision of elite gymnastics to the nuanced world of storytelling and healing, Ryan's unconventional journey defies traditional career paths. What began as a 23-year career as a high-level gymnast —marked by intense physical challenges including a broken back, torn ankles, and biceps—became a transformative odyssey into holistic human understanding. Forced to reimagine his physical potential after career-ending injuries, Ryan dove deep into biomechanics and bioenergetics, uncovering the profound interconnection between physical trauma and psychological manifestation. This exploration revealed a fundamental truth: our bodies tell stories far more complex than surface-level symptoms. His intellectual curiosity led him into unexpected territories. By self-teaching electronics, Ryan developed groundbreaking EMF and noise reduction patents, applying his keen analytical mind to understanding energy—both technological and biological. In Hollywood's script development world, he refined his ability to decode complex narratives, helping transform raw stories into compelling narratives by identifying underlying patterns and flow. Today, Ryan synthesizes these seemingly disparate experiences into a unique approach that bridges body, mind, and energy. His work integrates deep insights from gymnastics, biomechanics, frequency medicine, psychology, and narrative analysis—creating a holistic methodology that helps individuals understand and transform their own intricate life stories. Nessa live, eu conversei com fisiculturista natural Robert Sikes (@ketosavage) Robert Orion Sikes é um fisiculturista natural e competitivo. Ele começou a treinar no primeiro ano do ensino médio, pesando impressionantes 115 libras. Today, I am blessed to have here with me Robert Sikes. He is a natural ketogenic bodybuilder, author and entrepreneur as well as the CEO and founder of Keto Savage, a health and fitness company that offers coaching, training and nutrition for athletes and bodybuilders. He is also CEO and founder of Keto Brick, a company that produces ketogenic meal replacement bars for efficient nutrition with the highest quality ingredients. Sikes holds first-in-class titles from his bodybuilding competitions within the OCB and WNBF federations and lives in Northwest Arkansas with his wife Crystal. Ketogenic Bodybuilding is the culmination of all he has learned through his bodybuilding endeavors and client coaching practice. In this episode, Robert talks about how he thinks positively and has an optimistic outlook on life. Then, Robert dives into why he wrote Ketogenic Bodybuilding: A Natural Athlete's Guide to Competitive Savagery. It's an excellent resource for someone who wants to improve their composition while following a ketogenic lifestyle. Plus, Robert talks about increasing your protein and why he prefers to eat animal-based proteins over plant-based proteins. Tune in as we chat about being a bodybuilder without eating any carbs, the inspiration behind Robert's Keto Bricks, and the different ways to track your health. [00:55] How Robert Has Become A Positive Human Being Robert tries to stay positive actively. He lets people see him in a positive light and be positive to others because not doing so is not conducive to growth for anybody. Eating healthy has helped Robert stay positive. At the end of the day, it's easy for Robert to stay positive because he's grateful. [03:20] Why Robert Wrote Ketogenic Bodybuilding: A Natural Athlete's Guide to Competitive Savagery Get Ketogenic Bodybuilding: A Natural Athlete's Guide to Competitive Savagery: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09QZ68MJ7/benazadi-20 This book took Robert two years to write. It's all the lessons Robert has learned from the last seven years. Overall, it's a great resource for people who want to improve their composition. [07:20] How To Increase Your Protein During Mealtime If you're trying to build more muscle, you may not benefit from doing an OMAD approach. In a building phase, Robert will eat two or three meals a day. Currently, Robert eats 3,000 calories a day and 220 grams of protein. If Robert had to eat all of that in one meal, he would be miserable. Robert uses My Macros+: https://www.getmymacros.com/ [09:45] What's The Difference Between Animal-Based and Plant-Based Proteins? Animal-base is just going to be more bioavailable, and it has a better amino acid profile. You can succeed on a plant-based diet. However, you are going to have more supplements. Robert eats a lot of meat and doesn't have any issues with it. Meat helps Robert streamline and simplify his meal prep. [16:30] How Can You Be A Body Builder Without Any Carbs? Most people didn't think it was possible to lift hard and heavy on a low-carb diet. Plus, people told Robert that he wasn't going to have any energy. Well, keto helped Robert improve his relationship with food. Haters will talk smack all day long; Robert doesn't listen to it. Read Metabolic Characteristics of Keto-Adapted Ultra-Endurance Runners: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0026049515003340 [19:10] Will Eating High Protein Knock You Out of Ketosis? When it comes to bodybuilding and body composition, Robert is not really worried about people having a lot of protein. If you're eating minimal carbs and you feel great, then you're obviously functioning on fat and ketones. If your calories are very low, you may want to leave fat higher and decrease protein because fat is great for energy. Don't leave protein low indefinitely. [21:50] Should You Throw Away Your Scale? How To Track Your Health Robert says, “don't throw away your scale!” He likes to look at his weight as a data point. Weight doesn't show the whole picture, but it does show one piece of data. Instead, your composition should be what you measure. Also, take pictures and measurements. [25:50] Why Robert Decided To Develop The Keto Brick Purchase Keto Brick meal replacement bars here: https://glnk.io/1l3/thebenazadi Keto Bricks help Robert hit his macros more efficiently, take the guesswork out of meal prep, and it is just super convenient. It's a 1,000 calorie meal replacement bar. Overall, it makes hitting your fat macros much easier. A lot of people have a hard time getting enough dietary fat, so it helps streamline that process. [29:10] Why You Should Consider Buying The Keto Brick There are seven full-time flavors. The top flavor is a chocolate peanut butter cup. In the future, there will be a keto brick that only has eight total grams of carbs. For 1,000 calories, eight grams of carbs is unreal! Most keto products are absolute crap, and they are not worth your time. [33:50] How To Get Started With Fitness If you're doing nothing, getting up off of the couch and moving is progress in the right direction. If you haven't trained before, start with a push-pull leg routine. Anything is going to be better than nothing! If you are already in a legitimate regimen, then increase weight, increase time under tension, increase density, and increase frequency. [36:15] What Should You Do If You Feel Sore The Next Day? Don't do the same muscle group again. If you just started training, you will have a week or two of muscle soreness. To get through muscle soreness, you should train through it. If you're a seasoned lifter, you may benefit from a week where you decrease the intensity. [41:20] Should You Work Out Fasted or Have a Meal Before Exercise? It comes down to preference. Robert prefers fasted workouts. Fats take a long time to absorb; you won't make use of those calories. Robert eats his evening meal as his “pre-workout meal” for the next day. AND MUCH MORE! He started training as a junior in high school weighing a whopping 115 pounds. In the beginning, he followed traditional, “bro-dieting” wisdom which consisted of eating 6 or 7 meals a day filled with carbohydrates and very high protein. This nutritional protocol led to a downward spiral of health issues and disordered eating. After his third bodybuilding competition, Robert decided to try something new and began experimenting with a high fat, strict ketogenic approach to bodybuilding. He formulated his own approach to contest prep nutrition leveraging keto and earned his pro-status with bodybuilding in 2017. He has since dedicated his life to learning and teaching others the benefits of following a well formulated, ketogenic lifestyle. The lessons learned led to his creation of the Keto Brick, a 1,000 calorie, ketogenic performance meal. The Brick was never meant to be a product sold to the public. Robert just created it for his own personal use during his competition prep. However, after featuring it on a YouTube video, he received a ton of interest around the Brick and decided to jump in with both feet to make it into a viable business. After countless late nights and a never ending grind, the business took off and has since become a wild success! Robert now works alongside his wife Crystal and their amazing team to continually create content and Bricks and add a ton of value within this community. His mission is, and will continue to be, empowering others to believe in themselves and truly tap into their full potential by optimizing their body and mind. Success on keto doesn't just require beef, butter, bacon and eggs. It requires a positive mindset. A negative mindset can really slow down your progress, limit your hope for the future and maybe even cause you to give up on your keto journey altogether. In today's podcast, we discuss some of the ways our thoughts have tricked us into settling for less than our potential. We treat ourselves to an exercise on redirecting our thoughts and celebrating our keto lifestyle. Visit today's sponsor, Keto Brick, at https://bit.ly/Ketobrick and use the code "2krazyketos" to add a free brick of your choice to your first order. KEY QUOTE: “If you have a negative mindset, you can really slow your progress down, not have hope for the future or give up altogether.” SHOW RUNDOWN: 2:00-5:55 Intro to topic “Sometimes the thoughts that we have are very spooky.” What steps can we take to speak positively to ourselves? “We don't have to have a climate of negativity and worry.” “Every single time we have a thought, we're listening.” “We need to come to every single plate with a good attitude.” “Negative thinking undermines our motivation.” 5:56-8:00 Negative thought: “this isn't fair.” “It is disproportional in our favor that we are able to eat this way.” 8:01-10:50Where did this thought originate? “Is this actually my line or is it someone else's script about me?” 10:51-13:55 When did this thought originate? “How many times have I tricked myself into settling because I have had a negative thought about myself?” “I've tricked myself out of advancement because of negative thoughts about myself.” 13:56-19:49 Is this thought true at all? Take time to fact check. Don't make general, wide-sweeping statements about ourselves. 19:50-23:03 How do my thoughts see-saw my life? “Are my thoughts more effective at motivating me or are they more effective at allowing me to give up?” “Is this thought motivating me to make a change if I need to or is it tricking me into continuing bad patterns?” “If you give a large sanctuary to negative thinking, you will tire yourself out when it comes to wanting to do better.” 23:04-26:00 How can I tell the difference between negative thoughts and motivating thoughts? “Would I say this thought, out loud, to someone I care about?” “If we look in the mirror and convince ourselves we're never going to amount to anything, then we're never going to amount to anything.” 26:01-36:43 Practice reframing our thoughts “I may not be at optimal Rachel, but I'm not where I use to be.” “If I was able to get through 30 days of BBBE, then I can get through the holidays successfully.” “This is not a diet. This is a lifestyle. By changing the word, I changed history.” “A diet has an end, a lifestyle doesn't.” “Hey, there's new information about me. I need to update my records.” “Do we want to keep heading toward this spooky door and knocking on it?” Head to 2 Krazy Ketos to learn more about the Ketogenic Lifestyle! Your body's metabolic rate will downregulate to follow suit. 10:05 A period of higher caloric rate gives you a higher metabolism when you transition to a deficit. 11:58 There needs to be balance between the building phase and the cutting phase to achieve growth. 13:20 For about 7 years, Robert has been on a strict ketogenic diet. 14:00 You can compete at an elite level without carbohydrates. 16:00 Testosterone: Higher dietary fat in a ketogenic diet helps to keep testosterone levels stable in the context of a deficit, which is muscle preserving. 19:00 Robert's testosterone levels remain high during prep by being ketogenic, with high fat intake. 20:20 The harder you train in a caloric deficit and maintain progressive overload principles, sends a signal to your body that the muscle is still in high demand and to preserve it. 21:21 Cardio is a lever to pull. 24:15 Reverse dieting 25:20 It feels better to increase calories, for those who have been undereating. 27:00 Your body benefits from having sustainable times of caloric surplus and caloric deficit. 28:15 Robert trains fasted during all phases of training. 28:50 You won't need a protein shake to maximize your anabolic state if you are taking in enough protein, calories, and nutrients over the course of 24 hours in your surplus. 30:40 Robert often goes OMAD, with one satiating meal, in the later phases of prep. 33:22 During the last of competition prep/cut phase, Robert incorporates ketogenic caloric refeeds. 35:30 Eating in a stressed state likely compromises your body's ability to fully assimilate that nutrition. 39:30 Target muscles should be hit twice a week, for natural bodybuilders. Frequency, intensity, and volume are your levers to pull. 39:50 Robert uses an 8-day training split. 43:00 Ground beef and eggs are easily an easy food to track and manipulate for macros. 43:49 The Keto Brick is a good source of dietary fat in the form of steric acid. It is beneficial and tastes good. 45:35 A Nootropic Brick, a brain brick, will be launched soon. 46:00 Robert's Desert Island Exercise: Deadlifts work a little bit of everything.
