This week Eric and Nicky discuss Rocket League in a vehicular episode of Press any Button. Rocket league is a vehicle-based soccer game developed by Psyonix. Teams of up to four, use rocket-powered vehicles to hit a ball into their opponent's goal and score points over the course of a match. The game includes single-player and multiplayer modes that can be played both locally and online, including cross-platform play between all versions. About us: Press Any Button hosts Nicky (a new gamer) and Eric (a lifetime gamer) are a married couple who both love video games. For every video game they will discuss its past (history of the game, developers story, and fun facts), present (game play, game review and strategy), and future (will there be a sequel?? A movie?) BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE… Every game also comes with a challenge presented by the host that chose the game. If the challenge is not completed then whoever failed has to do a video game rap! So if you want to learn more about video games, hear some nerdy video game raps, or just have a good time this is the podcast for you. We try to cover all types of video games including: Retro and New video games - PlayStation, Nintendo, Xbox, Sega, and PC games - Any and all genres including RPG, Simulation, Beat em up, platforming, mystery, first person shooter, sandbox, puzzle, action adventure, etc. Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pressanybutton_podcast/ Credits: Nicky Smith Eric Luedtke Music by Mark Spurlock References: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-03-30-why-rocket-league-blew-up-and-its-predecessor-didnt https://whatculture.com/gaming/20-things-you-didnt-know-about-rocket-league?page=7 https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/rocket-league-rl-unreal-engine-5-update/ https://www.earlygame.com/rocket-league/is-rocket-league-dying-rocket-league-2-sequel/

New interview with SMLE & ATHENA TV Award-winning video game Rocket League's leading female streamer Athena just announced her first foray into music, joining forces with Grammy-nominated duo smle for their vibrant new single, “Eternal.” Out on Monstercat, the unmatched gamer turned singer-songwriter introduces her powerful vocal chops and pop sensibilities, elevated by smle's masterful production skills. The upbeat, energetic single is currently Rocket League's main menu track and will soon feature as a Player Anthem in the game's Item Shop, a crossover that bridges Athena's dedicated community with her exciting new music endeavors. Athena shares, “Creating “Eternal” will forever be a pivotal moment in my life. Music has always been a huge passion of mine, and to be able to create something that has never been done before is unforgettable. I hope everyone can feel how much heart we have put into this song. Get excited for more future releases!” smle adds, “‘Eternal' is a pretty special moment for us, Athena, and the music and gaming worlds. It's the first time a Rocket League content creator pairs up with an artist who's had in-game music to make a song specifically for the game. It's been so fun getting everything together for this - from having some of the other top Rocket League content creators cameo in the video, to working closely with Monstercat and Psyonix to make this a major moment, has been nothing short of exciting. We hope those listening feel as energized as we are, because this one's really special to us.” Arriving with the single, the “Eternal” music video follows Athena as she gears up for a Mad Max-style race in the desert against smle and fellow Rocket League streamers Rizzo and SunlessKhan. While the queen holds the 'eternal' potion prize at the finish line, smle and Athena discreetly work together to beat the others and ride off with their magic serum into the sunset. Emmy-nominated director Rick Wayne, known for his work with brands like NIKE, Bud Light, and McDonald's, along with producer Danny Pollack, known for his work with artists like The White Stripes, Alesso, and Machine Gun Kelly, deliberately centered the video around cars as a nod to the artists' involvement in Rocket League.

Rocket League is finally going F2P! It always felt like a when - not if - but over a year after being acquired by Epic Games, Rocket League is dropping the price tag as it moves over to the Epic Games Store. Also in this show we discuss NRG's unique idea to shop the name of the Rocket League team to a brand partner. It's a smart decision, and one I haven't seen before, if you have an example of this happeneing email me at Reamesmitch@gmail.com. The Field is a new initiative from Psyonix that will give Rocket League on of the clearest ramps into becoming an esports professional. Somehow 2020 keeps escalating and evolving into a whole new beast, but right now that evolution is for great reason. We show our support for the Black Lives Matter protests, towards everyone who has donated to causes if protest isn't possible, and to the incredible response by the gaming community including Psyonix staff. Fusion results are discussed, as well as the upcoming $300,000 in prize pool for community tournaments.
After 13 teams reached out to Psyonix about the handling of Rocket League esports, the entire esports scene is changing. That's not necessarily Psyonix hearing those complaints but it appears to be a cost-cutting manuever for teams. Katana Zero is that indie game we've all been waiting for this year. Produced over a period of 6 years by one developer, this is a cyberpunk, neo-noir style side scrolling action game. It reminds us quickly of Celeste gameplay but the story here is so well delivered and the gameplay is incredible. We also get back into World War Z since Brett convinces Austin to finally get it. Our review covers all episodes but the Tokyo level. In our news, there is a lot of virtual reality news this week. Valve has announced their Index headset which sold out in 30 minutes, Oculus is shipping their new headsets by the end of the month and we are getting a flagship Valve game in VR by the end of the year. Epic Games is making moves and they recently just acquired Rocket League's developer Psyonix. There are also hints a Left 4 Dead 3 is in production. In our discussion,we talk about the live stream showcasing gameplay from Borderlands 3. It looks incredible and we dive into some of the new features that come with the game. We also talk about some of the controversy that Randy Pitchford can't seem to avoid with him taking offense to an article clarifying what was said during the live stream. Either way, we're excited for Borderlands 3. Check out video clips of our news every week over on YouTube. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

James, Matt and Rebekah discuss the biggest games industry stories of the week -- much of which centres around confusion. First, there's the contradicting stories as to whether or not Borderlands 3 has microtransactions. While Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford said quite clearly on stage that it doesn't -- our own Rebekah Valentine was in the room when he said this -- his own developers, and 19 hours of Pitchford's own tweets suggest otherwise. Then Epic's announcement that it had acquired Rocket League developer Psyonix raised the question of whether or not the game would continue to be made available through Steam. At first the firm suggested (unsurprisingly) that it will become exclusive to the Epic Games Store, before retracting this and assuring it will remain available on Valve's marketplace -- although perhaps not in the long term. And finally, Valve announced its high-end VR offering, the Index, with its finger-tracking and hefty price tags. Rebekah was able to try the device out for herself, but with the firm promising that these will be compatible with all previous VR games and that it's not planning on making exclusive titles that use the Index's impressive technology, it's not overly clear what Valve's strategy for the device might be.
