Welcome to A STORM OF SPOILERS: A STAR WARS SPECIAL! Today, It is time to dive back into the prequels with The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. Your three intrepid hosts start out mustering positivity after a battering of Star Wars canon from Dave. This week, Kristin Russo of The Buffering Podcast and The Boiler Room podcast talks with Joanna for a segment called "Kristin Russo Tells Joanna Robinson Everything She Knows About Star Wars Without Having Seen Star Wars" [THIS EPISODE WAS ORIGINALLY RECORDED IN NOVEMBER 2019]
In this episode, Father Matt and Father Brian discuss Thunderbolts* (2025), the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They explore the film's central themes of trauma and the power of love to overcome conflict, drawing connections to Christian understandings of suffering. The episode also includes reflections on recent films they've watched, commentary on the direction of the Marvel franchise, and a fun mythology quiz to wrap things up. 0:28: Fr. Brian and Fr. Matt begin by catching up on the few months since they last recorded an episode, discussing the appointment of Archbishop Weisenburger as Archbishop of Detroit and the election of Pope Leo XIV. They also catch up on some of the movies they've recently seen, including The Agony and the Ecstasy (1965) depicting the relationship between Michelangelo and Pope Julius II during the painting of the Sistine Chapel; Pride and Prejudice, the 2005 remake starring Keira Knightley; Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005); Snow White (2025); and Warfare, (2025) about he real-life experiences of soldiers in the 2003-2011 Iraq War. 10:41: Fr. Brian introduces the film that is the focus of this episode, Thunderbolts*. Released in 2025, the 36th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was directed by Jake Schreier and written by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo. 11:48: Fr. Matt and Fr. Brian discuss the expansiveness of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which shows and movies they've seen, and how keeping up with all this content can make it difficult for casual viewers to keep up with the characters, plots, and maintain a sense of engagement with the heroic characters. Our hosts also discuss how the last several Marvel shows and films seem to have been trying to convey a message or promote an agenda rather than simply tell an entertaining story. 16:33: Fr. Matt provides a brief overview of the plot and main characters of Thunderbolts*. 24:41: Fr. Brian and Fr. Matt discuss some of the major themes in the film: how to deal with the parts of ourselves that we may not like, managing the effects of wounds from our pasts, and breaking the stranglehold that psychological trauma can have on our lives. 28:46: Fr. Matt talks about how the film depicts the power of love to overcome conflict. Fr Brian adds to that discussion, noting that for the characters in the film, their success only comes when they stop working in isolation and begin working together. This is very much akin to our understanding that we do not suffer alone; Christ enters into our suffering with us. 30:56: Fr. Matt notes that the film also portrays the notion that we are not defined by our worst moments and that great freedom can come from bringing them to the light. 34:16: Our hosts share their “seeds of the word” ratings for the film, based on how clearly they saw goodness, truth, and beauty reflected in the story. 39:46: In the last segment, Fr. Brain quizzes Fr. Matt about characters from Roman and Greek mythology.

The Brothers Krynn return to share their fan fiction idea, The Kenobi Timeline. Inspired by the Legends novel, Secrets of the Jedi, the story follows the what-if scenario of Obi-Wan and Obi-Wan's lover, Siri secretly having a child. From there events unfold unexpectedly, especially with lesser-known companions of Anakin and Obi-Wan who are the focus of the narrative. Each of these characters has a fully fleshed-out backstory with motivations that weave into but never contradict the events of the Prequels. Writer-director Jonathan L. Bowen started a film review site in high school, which he continued into college, ultimately posting more than 600 movie reviews. After moving to L.A. to pursue a film career, he started making independent music videos, then established a production company, JLB Media Productions, that specializes in business-to-business marketing and web videos. His music videos, short films, and features have been screened at more than 50 film festivals nationwide. His work includes: "The Devils Matchmaker," a short that won Best Short Shorts Comedy/Romance at the Eugene International Film Festival. Jonathan wrote and directed Amy Alyson Fans, a feature-length romantic comedy. I've seen his most recent movie, The Comic Shop, which he co-wrote and directed, and can tell you, as someone who's written more than a few superhero cartoons, I found it to be a funny and emotionally rich story about folks struggling to survive in the dog-eat-dog world of comic books. Jonathan's also written two books, Anticipation: The Real Life Story of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, which was written before Jonathan graduated high school, and its sequel, Revenge: The Real Life Story of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. https://www.directorbowen.com/

Let's Chat! The wall speaks your forgotten truths back to you, etched with glyphs representing aspects of yourself abandoned along the way. Standing before it, you face a choice that will determine whether you continue living as a performance or finally emerge as your authentic self.In "The Wall that Whispers," we journey deep into the metaphorical island where men confront what they've become to survive in a world that demanded their conformity. This isn't just another discussion about self-improvement—it's about soul recovery, about remembering a name only you could build. The sacred pattern reveals itself through five soul chambers: Kamarin (the mirror shore), Vor-veyon (the hollowing veil), Ashtar (the tower of rejection), Sol-anon (the chapel of silence), and Sith-veyon (the crimson mar). Each represents a fragment of your authentic self buried each time life taught you to shrink rather than expand. Most men never stand at this wall. They continue bleeding out their authentic selves slowly—when fathers tell them to stop crying, when friends mock their emotions, when workplaces praise workhorse behavior over humanity. What remains isn't the authentic self but a performance created to be accepted, desired, and chosen. The ritual shared here isn't metaphorical—it's a new signature in your nervous system. By acknowledging every ghost of yourself that never made it out, you forge a weaponized identity strong enough to face what most men avoid their entire lives: the quiet truth of self-abandonment.Because men who forget their name become men who forget their worth. They become passive lovers, silent fathers, performative leaders, and they pass that forgetting on like inheritance, not through what they say, but through what they refuse to feel. Will you continue this legacy, or will you finally reclaim the pattern they tried to erase?"True mastery is found in the details. The way you handle the little things defines the way you handle everything."

And in THIS episode of Who Would Win Unleashed… darkness descends and the streets ignite as Darth Vader (championed by Eric Holmes) faces off against an entire metropolis with a mean streak — The City of Boston (repped by James Gavsie) — in one of the most mind-bending matchups the show has ever seen.On one side, the Dark Lord of the Sith brings unmatched mastery of the Force, lightsaber precision, and an unshakable will forged in the fires of Mustafar. On the other, Boston fights not with a single face, but with the soul of a city: from die-hard sports fans and street-hardened townies to MIT-engineered countermeasures and Fenway's unrelenting spirit, this historic powerhouse has something even the Empire may not be ready for.Hosts James Gavsie and Eric Holmes break down this wild clash of galactic tyranny vs gritty New England pride, exploring every angle — from Vader's suffocating presence to Boston's unfiltered resilience. Can a single force-wielding juggernaut crush an entire city's fight, or will Boston's legacy, attitude, and unrelenting unity turn the tide?Expect strategy, absurdity, high-stakes analysis, and the kind of geek culture spectacle that only Who Would Win could deliver. It's Sith vs City — and you're not ready for how this ends. You can now support us on Patreon at Patreon.com/WhoWouldWinShowCheck out the Who Would Win YouTube Channel!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvvgEElLPGQG2GXkqMhQ5JwJoin our Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/whowouldwinshowFollow us on X/Twitter: @jamesgavsie @whowouldwinshowFollow us on IG and Threads: @WhoWouldWinShow @jamesgavsie @theericholmesCheck out the Who Would Win Merch Store:https://saywerd.co/collections/who-whould-win-merchSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/who-would-win/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacySupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/who-would-win/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacySupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/who-would-win/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
With the recent release of Season 2 of the acclaimed live action Star Wars series, Andor, on Disney + has come a spotlight on one of the architects of the Rebellion, Mon Mothma. Portrayed in the series by Genevieve O'Reilly, reprising the role after her appearance in Rogue One after being CUT from Revenge of the Sith, she has brought the beloved character back into the limelight. Despite her originally only receiving a whopping 26 seconds of screentime in Return of the Jedi, played by the actor Caroline Blakiston, we're here to set the record straight from a Legends perspective because we've known she's one of the GOATs for decades.
Kevonte, Chris and Joey discuss the final batch of episodes of Andor season 2: Make It Stop, Who Else Knows? and Jedha, Kyber, Erso. They talk the epilogue style ending, if there were enough familiar faces and cameos, and if this was the best Star Wars TV series.MASTER OR APPRENTICE?Kevonte: MASTERChris: MASTERJoey: MASTERTALLY BOARDCanon Immigrant: 63.5Droid Saves: 18Execute Order 66: 5Heart of Gold: 13"I Have A Bad Feeling About This": 19Lost Limbs: 11Mask of the Sith: 8"May The Force Be With You": 32Monster Attack: 36"NOOOOO!": 9"No One's Ever Really Gone": 22Pitfall: 20Superweapon: 8Artwork by Matt Truex: dailyknockoff.comPATREON: patreon.com/alwaysmallvilleTWITTER: twitter.com/alwaystarwarsFACEBOOK: facebook.com/alwaysmallvilleEMAIL: maythepodbewithyou@gmail.com

Leia dispatches agents across the galaxy to gather information on this, while Kylo Ren, now Supreme Leader of the First Order, searches for Palpatine in an effort to eliminate all potential threats to his power.Kylo Ren finds this triangle thing which leads him to a hidden planet where he finds Palpatine, still kicken. Palpatine unveils a fleet of Star Destroyers and offers it to Kylo if he finds and kills Rey, who is continuing her Jedi training under Leia. During Rey's training, She has a chat with Kylo Ren through their Force bond—brief flashes of the past—and accidentally crushes BB-8 during training. I was so mad at her for hurting sweet BB-8.Poe announces to the Resistance that Palpatine is alive and plans to unleash his fleet. To stop him, they need the Sith Finder which Rey believes to be on a planet called Pasanna.The. crew lands during a sick dance party. Rey meets a local who gives her a necklace—through their Force bond, Kylo take it from her and determines her location. Rey is soon approached by Leia's contact—Lando Calrissian. He explains that he and Luke once searched for a Sith hunter named Ochi, who may have held the key to finding the Wayfinder. They found his ship, but no trace of him.Stormtroopers arrive, and the heroes flee into the desert, falling into quicksand that leads to an underground cave. There, they find a Sith dagger inscribed with a clue. Unfortunately, C-3PO's programming prevents him from translating Sith text.Rey senses Kylo approaching and confronts him while the others prepare for takeoff. She brings down Kylo's ship but is shocked to see Chewie captured. As she and Kylo both use the Force to stop a transport from leaving, Rey loses control and unleashes Force lightning—destroying the ship and, seemingly, killing Chewie.Don't worry - Chewie is fine. He was on a different ship and they're going to hold him captive.Poe takes the gang to see an old friend, Zorii Bliss. She takes them to a tiny little fella who can bypass 3PO's programming so that 3P0 will finally translate the Sith text, but will also erase his memory. Suddenly, the First Order arrives, having tracked the group. Rey senses that Chewie is alive on their Star Destroyer—they realize he must have been on a different transport. The crew sneaks onto the ship. While Finn and Poe are captured, Rey goes to retrieves the dagger, has a force battle with Kylo, and has a vision of the emporer killing her parents, who were hiding her to protect her. Kylo tells her it's because she's a Palpatine. The captives are about to be executed—but General Hux intervenes, revealing himself as the spy. He helps them escape, explaining he doesn't care who wins, as long as Kylo loses. Rey refuses to join Kylo Ren in destroying Palpatine and the crew escapes with Chewie and the Falcon. Hux is immediately killed for being a spy. The team heads to where the Death Star wreckage lies. They meet Jannah, a former stormtrooper who, like Finn, escaped the First Order. Rey finds the Wayfinder—but experiences a dark vision of herself as a Sith Vampire combo package. Kylo shows up and they begin to fight. Suddenly, Kylo gets a vision of his mom, Leia, taking her last breath. He drops his lightsaber which Rey catches and uses to stab him. But then when she feels like Leia is dead, she heals Kylo so he can mourn without pain:? idk man. Kylo has a vision of his father who encourages him to return to the light. Kylo throws his lightsaber into the water. Poe is named General and doubts his ability to lead. Lando comes outta nowhere to give him a pep talk. Intending to exile herself like Luke, Rey tries to destroy her lightsaber, but Luke's Force ghost appears. He tells her that Leia knew all along who she was and still believed in her. He gives her Leia's saber and helps her retrieve the Wayfinder from Kylo's ship. Rey pilots Luke's old ship. With a signal from Luke's ship coming through, the Resistance prepares for battle. Poe and Finn lead the attack, on horse back cuz duh. Rey shows up to confronts Palpatine. Dude is pumped to see his granddaughter. He says he doesn't want to kill her, rather he wants her to kill him so his spirit will enter her and they can lead together. Kylo shows up and they fight together, sharing Leia's saber through the Force. Papetine enjoys the show and then uses his lightning fingers on both of them which is like draining their power. The Resistance attacks Palpatine's fleet, but they're outmatched. Just as hope fades, Lando arrives with a massive fleet from across the galaxy. As Rey lies on the ground, she hears the voices of past Jedi who encourage her to get up! She confronts Palpatine again, deflecting his lightning with both Luke and Leia's sabers. As he declares “I am all the Sith,” Rey responds, “And I... am all the Jedi,” and destroys him. She's on the verge of death from the blast, but Kylo climbs out of the pit he was throw in and revives her with his own life force. They kiss BIG ONESSSS! But then he dies. Womp Womp. The Resistance destroys the Sith fleet. And the heroes reunite and celebrate the win. The movie ends with Rey and BB8 take the Falcon to Tatooine. She buries the Skywalker lightsabers there and shows that i guess she has her own yellow one now. When a local asks who she is, she says Rey. Follow up Q for you - Rey who? She ponders the answer until she sees the ghost of Luke and Leia smiling at her and she says Rey Skywalker as she and BB9 watch the twin suns.

Ashton Sharrett from the Space Opera Music Podcast blows our minds as he joins us to break down the soundtrack. Tragedy, despair and hope; that is the musical story of Revenge of the Sith!

When the Star Wars prequels came out, they were polarizing for fans of George Lucas' beloved space opera. The three films - The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith – followed Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader. It's been 20 years since the final prequel hit theaters, so it seems like a fitting time to reevaluate the movies.Follow Pop Culture Happy Hour on Letterboxd at letterboxd.com/nprpopculture Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy
