BTC Sessions Ep. 078: The Iran War Was Theatrical, FIC Wins & Bitcoin Manipulation Exposed | Simon DixonThe Iran ceasefire was timed to the SpaceX IPO. The petrodollar is being deliberately broken. And your Bitcoin is being systematically moved into institutional custody — whether you realize it or not. Simon Dixon returns to lay out exactly how the managed transition to a multipolar world works, who's pulling the strings, and why self-custody is the only rational response. You'll learn why Simon argues China — not the US — won the financial and geopolitical contest, how the closure of the Strait of Hormuz was a manufactured pricing event to concentrate wealth upward, and why BlackRock's new Bitcoin Premium Income ETF is a carrot designed to get you to hand over your keys. You'll also understand the connection between digital ID legislation in the UK and Canada, AI surveillance infrastructure, and the "you will own nothing" endgame Simon has been tracking for years. Specific signals covered include the 30-year yield, the Japan carry trade break, the Bank of Japan rate hike to 1%, and the bond market dynamics that set the timeline for the entire war.⏱️ Timestamps:0:00 - Intro1:14 - Simon Dixon Returns: Iran Deal and SpaceX IPO Timing1:56 - China Wins: Financial Industrial Complex vs Transnational Capital3:22 - Netanyahu as Middle Management in Power Hierarchy3:58 - Multipolar Transition: Middle East as Financial Corridor5:24 - Sovereign Wealth Funds and Informal Capital Alliance6:41 - Manufacturing Strait of Hormuz Crisis for Wealth7:38 - Markets Reveal Iran War as Theater via Oil Gold Bonds9:25 - Liquidity Needs: Ping-Trump Meeting and SpaceX IPO11:21 - Managed Transition and Bounded Escalation Explained14:52 - Iran Deepens China Ties, Israel Pivots to GCC16:24 - UAE Exits OPEC Breaking Petrodollar for New Security Model19:46 - Israel Decapitates IRGC Hardliners for Regional Deal25:16 - Multipolar World AI Dominance and Nuclear Energy Prize30:48 - Funding Iran's Reconstruction and Revealing Contracts39:51 - Middle Class Asset Strip Completed or More Ahead42:38 - Bank of Japan 1% Hike Breaks Carry Trade48:27 - Digital ID Laws and AI Surveillance Endgame55:56 - BlackRock and Strategy Centralize Bitcoin Custody1:01:51 - SBF Celsius and Covert Crypto Deleveraging Networks1:08:16 - If Trump Serves Americans Nothing Makes Sense• About Simon DixonX: @SimonDixonTwittYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@UC_wNYJCyycXXPmWni2JNZhQ

Bernie Sanders (I-VT) published an op-ed in The New York Times proposing the American AI Sovereign Wealth Fund Act, a law that would transfer a 50% ownership stake in artificial intelligence (AI) companies into a federal sovereign wealth fund through a one-time tax. “The creative work of millions of people… has essentially been stolen by some of the wealthiest people in the world,” Sanders said. “It's time for us to reclaim it.” Simultaneously, President Donald Trump has been in discussions with Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI (the maker of ChatGPT), about transferring equity of the company into a government-run “public wealth fund.” Trump has also suggested the government could take equity stakes in other leading AI developers. Canada Strong Fund vs. Sovereign Wealth Funds: Why Borrowing to Invest at Home Could BackfireHosts Josh Sheluk and Colin White discuss the proposed Canada Wealth/Canada Strong Fund and argue it differs materially from traditional sovereign wealth funds. They explain sovereign wealth funds originated as a response to “Dutch disease,” using commodity windfalls to build large funds (e.g., Norway's) that invest outside the country to diversify and stabilize the domestic economy and currency. By contrast, they say Canada would start with about $25B in borrowed money, likely invest domestically, and overlap with existing vehicles like the Canada Infrastructure Bank and Canada Growth Fund without clear details on governance, cost of capital, returns, or liquidity. They warn government investing can become politically driven, may crowd out private capital, and fear a retail component with capital guarantees would shift risk to taxpayers and repeat past failures like labour-sponsored venture capital funds. Their current verdict is “no.”00:00 Sovereign Wealth Hype00:21 Show Intro and Setup01:26 What Sovereign Wealth Means02:44 Dutch Disease Origins05:03 Norway Model Explained06:59 Canada Strong Fund Basics08:46 Where Will It Invest10:35 Domestic Focus and Diversification11:38 Government Investing Risks14:04 Retail Investor Idea Alarm16:38 EV Subsidies as Warning19:26 What Government Should Do21:09 Labor Fund Cautionary Tale23:04 Guarantees and Liquidity Problems31:06 Best Case vs Worst Case33:43 Verdict and Wrap Up35:17 Disclaimers and Credits

The USA is almost $39T in debt, and are financial situation seems to be getting worse by the day. One idea I keep coming back to is a Sovereign Wealth Fund. Something that countries like Norway, China, UAE & Singapore have created and utilized as a tremendous $1T+ benefit to citizens. There are a ton of reasons this is super complicated and may never happen. It's political and could easily be ruined by short-term thinking, and we would need capital to fund it (even though we are operating at a deficit). But something about the idea of America being incentivized to own its own success seems like it has massive potential. What are your thoughts? How would you make this happen??My X:   / gfilche  HyperChange Patreon :)   / hyperchange   Disclaimer: This show is not financial advice, I'm not a financial advisor.

The "largest quantum attack on Bitcoin" just collapsed. Project Eleven paid 1 BTC for a 15-bit ECC break — but a classical computer does the same thing. Bitcoin's 256-bit security is untouched.A researcher won the Project Eleven Q-Day Prize for breaking a 15-bit elliptic curve key on a publicly accessible quantum computer, billed by the press as the "largest quantum attack on Bitcoin to date." Within 48 hours half the crypto press had it framed as Q-Day. The reality: a $300 laptop can break a 15-bit ECC key in well under a second. Bitcoin uses 256-bit ECC. The gap between 15 bits and 256 bits is roughly 2^241 — a number larger than the atoms in the observable universe. Q-Day is real as a research milestone. Q-Day is FUD as a Bitcoin threat headline today. On this episode we break down what Project Eleven actually proved, why the "1 BTC bounty" isn't what crypto media made it sound like, why Bitcoin's elliptic curve cryptography is nowhere close to being broken, and what's REALLY worth paying attention to this week — from the Litecoin MWEB 13-block reorg to the Bitcoin Core v30 wallet migration drama, the Bitcoin Knots vs. Core fork update, Shakepay's new BTC-backed loans, SEC Chair Atkins' "innovation" pivot, Kraken's 56 million IRS tax forms, and a $1.1 BILLION Canada Child Benefit story most Canadians missed this week. Plus, of course, Mark Carney's new wealth fund. What a time to be alive.

Mark Carney has proposed a “Canada Strong Fund” which will launch with a C$25 billion endowment focused on domestic infrastructure, part of a broader effort to reduce Canada’s reliance on the United States after tariffs have strained the economy. Canadians would also be able to invest their own savings in the fund. But with productivity declining for decades, it’s unclear how this initiative meaningfully addresses the country’s deeper growth challenges. At a moment of real urgency, the question remains whether this represents a serious step toward fixing Canada’s underlying economic problems.

In this episode of Tank Talks, Matt Cohen and John Ruffolo break down one of the biggest economic policy announcements in Canada's innovation economy: Mark Carney's proposed $25 billion Canada Strong Fund, a sovereign wealth fund designed to invest in nation-building projects, strategic industries, Canadian technology companies, and long-term economic sovereignty. John, who previously argued for this type of fund in his Substack piece Canada's Missing Pot of Gold, explains why Canada's biggest structural problem is undercapitalization and why relying on foreign direct investment for critical industries creates serious sovereignty risks.Matt and John dig into the hard questions behind the fund: Where does the money come from? Can Canada borrow at low rates and invest for long-term returns? How should the fund be governed so it does not become a political slush fund? And can this vehicle finally force a more serious conversation around Canadian pension funds, domestic capital formation, and backing companies like Cohere, Kepler, and Xanadu before they are pushed toward foreign capital markets? The episode also covers Cohere's acquisition of German AI firm Aleph Alpha, the rise of sovereign AI alternatives outside the U.S. and China, Xanadu's volatile post-SPAC quantum stock run, SpaceX's reported Cursor acquisition talks, Meta's 8,000-person AI-driven workforce reduction, and Thoma Bravo's massive Medallia equity wipeout. From sovereign wealth and AI infrastructure to quantum financing and private equity pain, this episode asks the real question: can Canada build the capital systems needed to own its future?Canada Strong Fund: Carney's $25B sovereign wealth fund announcement (00:31)Matt opens the episode by laying out the breaking news: Mark Carney has launched the proposed Canada Strong Fund, a $25 billion sovereign wealth fund aimed at giving Canadians a stake in strategic national projects and critical industries. Why John Ruffolo says Canada is dangerously undercapitalized (01:22)John argues that Canada's core economic problem is not a lack of ideas, talent, or companies, but a lack of domestic capital formation. He explains why foreign-controlled capital in sovereign industries is a bad idea and why Canada needs its own funding mechanism. The biggest risk: governance or political slush fund? (03:14)John explains that the Canada Strong Fund will only work if it is independently governed, similar to CPPIB or CDPQ. Without strong governance, he warns, the fund could collapse into politically motivated pet projects. Can Canada borrow at 3.5% and earn 7% long term? (04:59)John breaks down the financial logic behind using Canada's strong credit rating to borrow at lower rates and invest through a professionally managed fund targeting long-term returns similar to major pension funds. Why the fund fails if returns do not materialize (08:15)Matt raises concerns about launching a sovereign wealth fund during a deficit environment. John says the idea only works if the fund is independently managed and capable of generating real long-term returns. No more grants: John's blunt plan for government funding (14:02)John calls for Canada to stop giving grants, especially to foreign-based companies, and instead convert government support into equity investments that create long-term ownership and capital recycling for the country.Cohere acquires Aleph Alpha and makes a sovereign AI play (16:12)Matt breaks down Cohere's acquisition of German AI firm Aleph Alpha, the new Berlin European headquarters, and the reported $600 million financing commitment from Schwarz Group as part of a broader sovereign AI strategy.Xanadu's quantum stock surge and post-SPAC volatility (19:59)Matt explains Xanadu's post-SPAC trading action, including its sharp rise, options activity, and SEC filing registering nearly 300 million Class B shares for sale after the lockup period expires.SpaceX, Cursor, and peak AI paper-deal froth (24:25)Matt and John react to reports that SpaceX could acquire AI coding startup Cursor for $60 billion, with John arguing that SpaceX shareholders should be furious about the growing complexity and governance concerns.Meta layoffs and the real cost of AI capital spending (27:56)Matt highlights Meta's reported 10% workforce reduction tied to massive AI capital spending. John argues the “AI efficiency” explanation often masks bad capital allocation and failed strategic bets.Thoma Bravo's $5.1B Medallia equity wipeout (29:55)The episode closes with Thoma Bravo handing Medallia back to creditors after a major private equity software deal collapses, raising questions about SaaS valuations, debt structures, and exit assumptions in the AI era.Connect with John Ruffolo on LinkedIn: https://ca.linkedin.com/in/joruffoloConnect with Matt Cohen on LinkedIn: https://ca.linkedin.com/in/matt-cohen1Visit the Ripple Ventures website: https://www.rippleventures.com/ This is a public episode. They explore whether this represents a subsidy program for economically unviable projects, question the fund's structure compared to existing government programs, and consider alternative approaches, such as requiring the Canada Pension Plan to invest domestically.Subscribe to The Hub's podcast feed to get all our best content:https://tinyurl.com/3a7zpd7e (Apple)https://tinyurl.com/y8akmfn7 (Spotify)Watch a video version on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@TheHubCanadaFollow The Hub on X: https://x.com/thehubcanada?lang=enCREDITS:Amal Attar-Guzman - ProducerElia Gross - EditorRudyard Griffiths and Sean Speer - HostsAdrian Wyld/The Canadian Press - Photo Credit Hosted on Acast. From a lumpy 2025 market to building pent-up demand, M&A attorneys Corey Kupfer and Brian Meegan share their frontline perspective on deal trends and what business owners need to know heading into 2026. In this episode of the DealQuest Podcast, host Corey Kupfer sits down with his partner Brian Meegan of Kupfer. to kick off the new year with a candid conversation about the deal market. Together, they've handled dozens of deals totaling hundreds of millions of dollars in purchase price and enterprise value across wealth management, tech, and trade industries nationwide. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: In this episode, you'll discover why the 2025 M&A market has been "lumpy" with strong activity in certain sectors while others slowed, and how markets normalize uncertainty when clarity takes too long. Corey and Brian discuss tax legislation certainty versus tariff uncertainty pending Supreme Court review, why pent-up demand builds pressure that eventually releases, and how massive PE dry powder creates deployment urgency. You'll learn why equitizing Generation 2 leadership years before an exit improves options and valuation, how trade industries remain attractive due to AI resistance, and what regional differences mean for deal opportunities. DEAL MARKET REALITY: The end of 2024 was intense, and momentum carried into 2025. Yet conversations with colleagues revealed uneven activity nationwide. Wealth management stayed robust while other sectors slowed. Weaker earnings combined with elevated prices created buyer-seller disconnects. CERTAINTY AND UNCERTAINTY: Markets crave predictability. Recent tax legislation provided clarity around R&D credits and SALT deductions. Tariff policy remains uncertain with potential Supreme Court review, creating productivity costs as companies refigure supply chains. PENT-UP DEMAND: When natural deal flow gets suppressed, it builds pressure rather than disappearing. PE firms sit on enormous capital with fund timeline pressures. Money isn't the constraint. Finding opportunities and having clarity to proceed are the real bottlenecks. THE GEN 2 IMPERATIVE: Equitizing key executives years before a potential exit creates tax-efficient structures, makes companies more attractive to buyers, and gives acquirers confidence. Waiting until deal time limits options and hurts valuation. REGIONAL DIFFERENCES: Brian's Denver practice serves different markets than Corey's coastal work. Colorado features strong tech sectors and alternative energy with California migration. Heavy manufacturing concentrates in Arizona and Nevada. TRADE CONSOLIDATION: Professionalization of trades including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC continues after more than a decade. These industries resist AI disruption, making them attractive for stable revenue and consistent fundamentals. Perfect for business owners considering exits, entrepreneurs evaluating opportunities, and anyone wanting frontline perspective on current M&A conditions.
