Episode 8 – Michelle Kunimoto – Discovering Exoplanets and the Search for Extraterrestrial Life   The question, “Are we alone in the universe?”, has inspired philosophers and scientists since time immemorial. When we look up at the starry sky, one almost can't help but wonder, is there anybody out there?   Michelle Kunimoto isn't just asking that question, she is busy doing her small part in the search for the answer. And she is this week's guest on This Amazing Story.   Michelle Kunimoto discovered 17 exoplanets by scouring over the data from the Kepler Space Telescope as part of her grad project at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Previously, she had found four other exoplanets as an undergrad, an achievement that landed her on the Forbes 30 Under 30 List for Science at the age of only 23.   Inspired at an early age to pursue astronomy when her Dad introduced her to the original Star Trek TV Series, Michelle has now completed her PhD in Astronomy at UBC, and will soon be travelling to MIT in Boston where she will be fulfilling a childhood dream of working with NASA.   In this episode Michelle tells us what it takes to find exoplanets, how she became interested in studying exoplanets in the first place, how you too can become an exoplanet researcher right from the comfort of your own home, what the future might hold for space exploration, and much more.   This episode is a great chance to learn a bit about astronomy, and Michelle does an amazing job of putting some complicated ideas into simple language that anybody can understand.     SOME RELEVANT LINKS   CBC Article on Michelle Kunimoto, March 1, 2020 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/ubc-astronomy-student-finds-17-new-possible-planets-1-may-have-water-1.5481900   Global News Story, Feb 28, 2020 https://globalnews.ca/video/6611938/ubc-graduate-student-michelle-kunimoto-explains-interstellar-exoplanet-discovery   Global News Story, Jan 7, 2017 https://globalnews.ca/video/3167384/ubc-grad-michelle-kunimoto-named-to-forbes-30-under-30-list   Forbes 30 Under 30, 2017 https://www.forbes.com/30-under-30-2017/science/#1160533827fa   Vancouver Sun Article on the first 4 planets discovered by Kunimoto, Jan 15, 2020 https://vancouversun.com/news/local-news/ubcs-rising-astronomy-star-michelle-kunimoto-seeks-distant-worlds   Global News Story on the first four exoplanets, May 30, 2016 https://globalnews.ca/news/2731189/ubc-astronomy-student-discovers-4-new-planets-beyond-our-solar-system/   Planet Hunters TESS https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/nora-dot-eisner/planet-hunters-tess/about/research   Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes https://archive.stsci.edu/    UBC Department of Physics and Astronomy https://www.phas.ubc.ca/   Jaymie Matthews at UBC https://www.phas.ubc.ca/users/jaymie-matthews   ----more---- For more information or to join the conversation, visit thisamazingstory.com Or send mail to host, Malcolm McMillan. Most know her as Alice from the Nightmare on Elm Street series (parts 4 & 5), however Lisa Wilcox has done so much with acting. Whether it was Star Trek TV Series, Fear Clinic, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures. It's hard to become a success in Hollywood and make a real go of it, but for Lisa to do it twice (since she took a 8 year break to start her family) but Lisa did it & explains the differences between first & second go! A must listen Also want to warn folks that listen, there might be a couple spots that sound like might be fading out, was do to call be dropped, but Lisa was a true pro while dealing with tech issues!

Georges Seguin (Wikipedia). Atari 2600 with JR. Pac-Man cartridge. Festival du jeu vidéo 2008 (video game festival) (Paris, France). Tipps für Andreas bitte an feedback AT derubercast DOT com. Sven: “go south” Computer: “You reached a deserted Saloon.” Sven: “Open door” Computer: “The place isn’t as empty as it seems. Two guys wearing a pilot uniform look stare at you.” Sohn: “Was ist das Papa? Egal, lass’ mal weiter gehen!” Winter Games - Hot Dog. Nuff’ said. #stiftenkopf In Spenderlaune?

TOS vs. the Abramsverse. Few things have divided the Star Trek fan community like the J.J. Abrams reboot of Star Trek. Many embrace it as a needed shot in the arm that has revitalized the franchise. Others despise it to the point of calling J.J. a Denebian slime devil—or worse. Can there really be two Kirks and two Spocks? Or is TOS hallowed ground that should be left alone? In this episode of The Ready Room hosts Christopher Jones and Greg Harbin are joined by Trek.fm feature writer Lisa M. Lynch and Brian Finifter of Down In Front to debate the original Star Trek vs the reboot. In our news segment we look at a new Abramsverse video game coming to consoles and PCs in 2012, J.J. Abrams talking Star Trek 2, the opening weekend results for Super 8, writers Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof getting their planking fetish on, the science of J.J.'s Star Trek, the Hero Complex Film Festival, and some details about a new Star Trek TV Series pitched by William Shatner. Plus, we're joined by Five Year Mission for a live performance of tracks from their album "Year One," and a sneak peak at "Year Two."

This is the studio playback. On my end, the host voice was frequently garbled and cut out because of voice-over-internet telephone, so if my answers don't seem to match the questions, it's because I had to guess at some of them - Alan, Topics include: Planning the Future, Think-Tanks to Promote Ideas - Predictive Programming, Possibility Thinking, Ancient Religious Knowledge, Imagination and Fantasy, "Alien" Agenda, Obsolete Technology, Subconscious and Unconscious Mind, Innate Ideas, Archetypal Symbols, Science of the Mind, Illumination - Light, Masonry to the 33rd Degree - 40th Degree - "Life Begins at 40", the Unknown, Intuition, Experience on a Personal Level, Masonic Religion, Hand-Held Thought Transmission Devices, Real Experiences - Psychotic Episodes - Scientifically Induced Experiences, Mind Control, Abduction Stories, Barney and Betty Hill, Astral Travel - Aliens - Culture Creation - Science Fiction Movies, Demons and Witches in Past Ages, Logical Investigation, "The Day the Earth Stood Still" Movie - Promotion of World Unification, Star Trek TV Series, Ready-Made Markets for Fantasy and Fiction, Human Stories in Outer Space, Gene Roddenberry - High Freemason - NASA, Galactic Federation - Multiculturalism, Psychological Training Exercises, United Nations, Tribal Leaders and Heroes, Perpetual Childhood of Socialism, Sanity and Insanity, Manipulation of the Masses, Dictators in Uniform - Masonic Uniform - Suit and Tie - The Same, Speeches and Scripts, Communism
