In this moment, entrepreneur and best selling author, Mohammad "Mo" Gawdat, discusses the root cause of stress in your life. Mo says that it is not major traumatic events that break people, instead it is the much smaller damage that build ups over time and results from the script that you tell yourself. He believes that many of the stressors of your life can easily be cut out if you spend time deliberately looking at and reflecting on your life. After this you can then choose to limit what you allow into it, and help break the toxic addiction to stress we all suffer from in the modern world. We start with a deeper understanding of what stress means, and move on to many paths which can help decipher causes and probable ways to pause or stop the effects. A meaningful chat which throws light on Hemant Gupta's and my personal experiences and learning from them (and at times, perhaps avoiding to learn :). We admit our fallacies in this episode openly helping grow each other in understanding the processes which can lead us out of our seemingly strong habit patterns. Do have a look. Stress eating is a common coping mechanism that many people use to deal with stress. However, it can lead to weight gain, health problems, and a vicious cycle of stress and unhealthy eating. Here are some tips on how to stop stress eating: Identify your triggers. What are the things that make you want to stress eat? Once you know your triggers, you can start to develop strategies for avoiding them or coping with them in a healthy way. Be mindful of your eating. When you're eating, pay attention to your hunger and fullness cues. Eat slowly and savor your food. Stop eating when you're full, even if there's food left on your plate. Find healthy alternatives. When you feel the urge to stress eat, try to find a healthy alternative, such as going for a walk, listening to music, or calling a friend. Don't deprive yourself. It's important to allow yourself to enjoy your favorite foods. However, try to do so in moderation. If you know you're going to be at a stressful event where there will be a lot of unhealthy food, eat a healthy meal before you go so that you're not so hungry. Get enough sleep. When you're well-rested, you're better able to cope with stress and resist the temptation to stress eat. Exercise regularly. Exercise is a great way to relieve stress and improve your mood. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week. Seek professional help. If you're struggling to stop stress eating on your own, talk to a therapist or counselor. They can help you develop coping mechanisms and strategies for dealing with stress in a healthy way. Here are some additional tips: Keep a food journal. This can help you identify patterns in your eating and identify triggers for stress eating. Make healthy snacks and meals easily available. This will make it easier to choose healthy options when you're feeling stressed. Plan your meals ahead of time. This will help you avoid making unhealthy choices when you're short on time. Don't eat in front of the TV or computer. This can lead to mindless eating. Take breaks from eating. Get up and move around, or talk to people. This will help you avoid overeating. Remember, it takes time and effort to change your eating habits. Be patient with yourself and don't give up. With time and practice, you can learn to stop stress eating and make healthier choices. If we're answering to emotional hunger more often than not, it's going to make it very hard to achieve any kind of health goals. You might be snacking when you're not truly hungry, eating meals just because it's a certain time, or munching on something to numb the anxiety you're feeling.Wherever you are on the emotional eating scale, we want to arm you with the tools that can help you move closer to where you want to be. We're all human and it's rare for someone to only ever eat when driven by physical cues of hunger. We all have stresses, worries and frustrations that sometimes drive us to food as a solution. The goal here is not perfection. It's simply to become more aware of what our body needs and why.In this episode, you will learn:The difference between physical and emotional hunger4 key steps to help you work on emotional eatingWhy it's not always helpful to ‘eat by the clock' The impact of screens on eatingTo read the full show notes for this episode, www.TheWLCC.com/102Quotes01:04 - “If we're very often answering to emotional hunger, which is eating for reasons other than physical hunger, we have a very hard time actually making our goals happen.”16:02 - “Hunger is not an emergency. A lot of us fear getting hungry. We fear it because we've been conditioned by the diet industry that if we're hungry, maybe we won't be able to eat.”17:54 - “Often, when a screen is on, I don't think you're at your full consciousness level to focus on how your body's feeling with food. So I have made a personal loving boundary for myself that I don't involve screens when I'm eating anymore.”21:23 - “When you stop emotionally eating, whatever feelings you were eating over will bubble to the surface.”23:07 - “We don't need to eat something right away to feel better. You can just feel annoyed for a few minutes in the day. It passes. It's a human feeling. Have you ever said to yourself, “Why can't I stop eating when stressed?” Learning how to stop stress eating isn't about getting food under control; it's about understanding that food cannot solve emotional hunger. Being able to stop stress eating God's way is not about applying scripture to cover up a wound, but rather allowing God to heal the wound. Healing happens when our hearts become aligned with His word and we begin to live from our relationship with Him. In this episode, I explain what stress eating is and why we struggle to stop it. I also offer three practical tips that will help you stop stress eating and lose weight God's way. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix, so don't be discouraged. Overcoming stress eating will take time and intentionality throughout the process.
