Today, we're delighted to be talking to Pierre Burgy, the founder and CEO of Strapi, a headless CMS. We're getting into how they're trying to eliminate having your CMS be your biggest headache as a developer. Pierre has a fresh perspective on open source business models, and open source itself that we're excited to get into in this episode! It all came about when Pierre and his friends were building websites for themselves and clients, and dealing with the struggles of trying to efficiently build on websites from mobile devices. The APIs were slow, and overall it was a grinding process. This, of course, set them on a course if developing a content management system based on an API - it was a no-brainer. They knew Strapi needed to be a business. We also ask him the key question - how do you get from an early stage project to 60,000 stars on GitHub. According to Pierre, blog posts worked well in the early days, and encouraging friends to get on board in the even earlier stages. But at the end of the day it's about keeping your eye on the project, pursuing improvements and nurturing your community. Make sure to give this a listen! Hello and welcome back to Equity, a podcast about the business of startups, where we unpack the numbers and nuance behind the headlines.Alex and Grace are back to cover the biggest, boldest and baddest technology news. This week we are not recording on a Tuesday as it's a regular week. Though we would add that Equity will be live on Thursday, when we record our Friday episode. So if you wanted to come hang, make sure that you are following the show on Twitter.Right, so what did we get into this morning?Stocks are generally up, major cryptos are not doing too much this morning, and a Coinbase downgrade caught our eye.Backstage Capital is laying off staff as it focuses on only investing into existing portfolio companies. With less capital than before going to Black founders, seeing a fund that focused on investing into underrepresented founders struggle is a bummer. The Strapi startup round was a fun one to look at, fusing open-source tech and CMSs, a tool that we use here at TechCrunch rather often. And then there is the mess at Digital World Acquisition Corp., the SPAC that wants to merge with former American President Trump's digital media company. It's in trouble with regulators. The chaos did not start there, however. 3AC is in default (like Russia!), the BlockFi rescue deal had internal pushback, Klarna may only be worth $10 billion, MilkRun loses lots of money, and we're learning more about how India's government is going after Twitter. So, a great way to start the week. We kid. Chat soon!

As e-commerce has developed as an industry, the old guard e-commerce tools are phasing out to make way for new guard: headless e-commerce. Our two guests today, Product Marketing Manager at Strapi, Anastasiia Shpiliak, and Ryan Szrama, founder of Centarro, discuss the benefits of headless e-commerce and how to achieve it with Strapi and Centarro.Strapi + headless e-commerceStrapi is an open source, Node.js based, headless CMS with an e-commerce solution. Why headless? As Anastasiia explains, Strapi has been headless from the beginning because, “the founders wanted to give other developers this great experience of integrating their own tools, choosing their own stack, and the freedom to do what they want with the frontend.” Headless enables online shopping, performant fast, and personalized shopping experiences much more easily than traditional monolithic systems, says Anastasiia. It's also more future-proof and easier to deliver omnichannel experiences, especially with Strapi. Strapi's headless e-commerce solution appeals to businesses who are keen on:Flexibility — spin up your own architecture and front endSpeed and performance Freedom to choose tools like a Stripe integrationFreedom to self-hostTest and deliver new pages quicklyCentarro + headless e-commerceCentarro (formerly known as “Commerce Guys”) is Drupal's headless e-commerce solution. Ryan explains Centarro further. “We natively extend the data model of Drupal so that all of the things it does for content management like extensible data structures, database querying workflow content moderation, the whole nine yards, all that applies equally to commerce data.” This allows you to run Drupal Commerce full-stack or headless. Ryan adds, “In a sense, it's really similar to Strapi, but based on PHP instead of JavaScript.”The Centarro headless e-commerce experience appeals to customers who are interested in:ScalabilityPerformance Better front-end customer experience — as Ryan specifies, “‘Better' means nicer, faster, more responsive, and more modern-feeling.”Internationalization and expansion of their businessTry Strapi or Centarro for your move to a faster, e-commerce experience with an improved customer experience.Platform.shLearn more about us.Get started with a free trial.Have a question? Ready to show off your coding skills to the world? Not so fast. In this episode, Will and Jillian discuss why developers need to simplify their product with the end goal in mind—the customer. They share some awesome examples of how to do this, how you can win Future You's approval, and the steps to create a smooth user experience. “I think it's a hard mental shift to say that my area of expertise shouldn't be visible in the product. But, you need to understand the end goal. My goal is to automate myself out of a job, then move on.” - Will Button In This Episode: Jillian shares a killer example that should inspire all DevOps people to simplify their process As a programmer, you want to tell the customer how great your programming is, right? Fin mai, c'est déroulé l'alpine day. https://alpineday.com/watch.

I speak with with Aurélien Georget of Strapi, the leading open-source headless CMS, 100% Javascript, fully customizable and developer-first. I also cover substack, did 2020 get the startups it needed, and just how good is the new M1 chip for machine learning practitioners? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theweeklysqueak/message
WordPress has been a dominant force in the world of online publishing for many years because of how battle-tested it is. WordPress is the definitive leader in CMS technology. But there have always been alternatives. Drupal, Ghost, and other open source CMSes. More recently, there has been an emergence of the headless CMS, such as Contentful, which decouples the CMS backend from the frontend presentation layer.Strapi is a popular open source headless CMS. Pierre Burgy is the founder of Strapi, and he joins the show to talk about the CMS category, the role that Strapi fills, and the technology behind Strapi.
In episode 58 of JAMstack Radio, Brian speaks with Pierre Burgy of Strapi. They discuss bootstrapping APIs, marketing open source projects as products, and the importance of tutorials over documentation for the adoption of new technology.
