Roger David is president and CEO of Gold Star Chili, Inc., an iconic Cincinnati business with two well-known brands in its portfolio of companies – Gold Star and Tom & Chee. Roger leads a team of dedicated professionals working to continue to build the brand his father and uncles started more than 50 years ago. Since being named president and CEO, Roger has grown Gold Star Chili, Inc. to include Tom & Chee, the famous grilled cheese and soup restaurant chain that rocketed to stardom thanks to an appearance on ABC's “Shark Tank.” Under his leadership, Gold Star has completed strategic updates to all areas of its business in order to drive success and growth for the next 50 years and beyond. A $30 million investment translated into a new restaurant look, menu and guest experience for its 70+ locations throughout Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. Roger believes restaurant brands are built tableside and has advanced the companies training and development efforts. The company also made a deliberate investment into facility efficiencies in order to build environmentally-friendly restaurants, which pays off for its franchise owners who are realizing improvements in labor costs, energy usage and employee productivity. Gold Star is in the process of bringing those same strategies to the Tom & Chee brand in order to position it for success for years to come. Earlier in his career, Roger served as CEO of national sports restaurant franchise Buffalo Wings & Rings; director of brand strategy at Brandimage, a brand design and consultancy serving fortune 500 clients; and vice president of marketing at Gold Star. He has served a member of the Cincinnati Parks Foundation board, President of the Music Resource Center, Vice President of the Council on Child Abuse, and ArtWorks Big Pitch mentor and judge. Roger is currently in the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce Leadership class 47. Roger holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA from Xavier University. He is married to Ceci and has three children: Liza, Alex and Margo.

Dylan Hollis is Bananas for Vintage Self-Published Cookbooks) about his growing collection of community cookbooks:* “Community cookbooks come from the church ladies and bridge clubs of the United States. They are the menus and the recipes of everyday folks. They're a treasure trove of information,” Hollis said. On this episode 43 of the DOD45 show, fresh out of almost retiring, @Illogic614 returns with @ArtByTai and Adrienne to discuss his recent album The Transition. One of Illogic's favorite film directors is Christopher Nolan, which inspires Tai to draw him a picture based on the independent film Memento. Illogic sets the record straight of who played Batman best, and who did it the worst. He also shares his favorites to play The Joker. They also envision scenarios of what kind of music Illogic could make collaborating with people like Billie Eilish or Billie Holiday. And we learn that Illogic loves pasta, but is that enough to lessen his dislike for Guy Fieri and Tai asks the question, does Cincinnati Chili qualify as pasta?……It is a spaghetti base. Mr. Dibbs hits Illogic with an astounding question that sparks some laughter and we learn about some very ambiguous laws in the state of Ohio. And finally, would Illogic be a better character in a Kill Bill movie or a Bill & Ted's movie? He answers that and other mental questions about Mork & Mindy, Mindy Kaling & pigeon feeding..... So twist your head back in Kilter, abandon trying to figure out the movie Tenet & enjoy this discussion with Illogic, aka Jawhar Glass on this episode of The DOD45 Show. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/artbytai/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/artbytai/support

Jeff and Joey recap last week's Seattle Kraken games starting with the loss at home to the Nashville Predators where Jeff's hockey-instincts came to fruition and Vince Dunn emerged as his favorite player / enforcer the team needs and Joey wasn't too fond of the ESPN broadcasting crew because he's been spoiled with John Forslund and JT Brown. Next, in what might be the surprise game of the season and the best game they've played all year, the Seattle Kraken beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 in their barn and also notch their first overtime win in franchise history. A great start to the road trip is quickly squashed as the matchup versus the New York Islanders is postponed due to weather and the Kraken suffer a brutal loss at Madison Square Garden the following day after a blown no-call in what Joey believes was no mistake. Next, the boys preview the back-to-back match ups of the Boston Bruins and Islanders (again) before discussing the All-Star break, what special events the city of Las Vegas will be putting on for it, and how the breakaway challenge is being revitalized from 2016. Jeff attempts to do an ad read but is interrupted by Joey's love for Joe Burrow and the two end up discussing Cincinnati, chili, and how Jeff hung out with Guy Fieri. For #NoDumbQuestions a friend of the pod on Twitter asked about how face offs come about, what determines where they are held, and why players get yanked from them from time to time. Last, Hockey History with Jeff has him talking about the history of the puck as well as his own personal history with street hockey growing up in Detroit and how he's currently grooming his son to play in the NHL and the boys reminisce on their favorite hockey movies. This is the last full episode of Season 2 of Beyond the Venue Podcast! As we wrap up both the season and the year, I want to thank you for coming on this adventure with me.Speaking of adventures, our final guest of the season is my friend Olivia. Olivia made the decision to hike the Appalachian Trail this past year, and I was fortunate enough to have followed along with her journey via Slack. Through this app she was able to share with her friends and family the highs and lows, pictures from the trail, and even insights as to what she was going through both mentally and physically. It was as if she was writing in a journal that she gave all of us access to, and I thank her for her openness and vulnerability. Topics Include:
Environment, cultural traditions, gentrification - all of these forces shape what we eat and are deeply rooted in where we are. Regional foods are more than just their flavors and ingredients. They are a culmination of local culture and generations of experience. But how are historic foodways being altered by factors like warming oceans and rapidly evolving urban landscapes? In our increasingly interconnected world, does truly regional cuisine still exist? Join us in taking a look at some iconic regional dishes and the stories behind them. We are doing things a lil differently this week. This is our “skip week” where we take a break from the regular format. One of the most fun things about doing Legends of Philadelphia are all the great comments, emails, and DMs we get on the social medias. Listeners clued us in when we were wrong and shared new stuff that we didn't know before. So, today we're going to dig through the last ten episodes and talk about what's next.

Finally we welcome Aaron Anderson the franchise owner of four The Original Hot Dog Factory The Original Hot Dog Factory Philadelphia restaurants in the Philadelphia area. “Forty-one percent of black-owned businesses nationwide were forced to close during this horrific Covid-19 pandemic compared to seventeen percent of white-owned businesses. According to a recent study by experts, most of those impacted are black-owned bars and restaurants ̶ that's about 440,000 companies ̶ but I will do all I can to make sure I can not only thrive during this time but will motivate others to do the same,” said Aaron Anderson. Anderson credits some of his success these past few months to catering to first responders and essential workers, and making sure all of his employees and take-out customers are in a safe environment to prevent the spread of Covid-19, with social distancing, face masks and the installation of self-service kiosks. Born and raised in the tough inner city of Philadelphia, PA, Anderson credits his mother, a single parent of five, with his unyielding strength, discipline, humility, passion and persistent need to be of service to those in need. Anderson's foray into being a business owner ̶ the very first in his family ̶ started with the launch of his very own screen-printing company in 2009, Union Printing that established itself as a leader in the industry and is still hugely successful more than a decade later. Aaron Anderson's keen interest in technology prompted him to become an investor in the pharmaceutical application QwikScript, and flight simulator application Flype. These strategic investments contribute to his growing financial portfolio and further strengthens his parent company Axxeum LLC, which was formed in 2018. In line with his desire to give back to the community, he became a member of Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia and Pyramid Club. His future plans include having ownership in a professional sports organization and to become an elected official in his home state of Pennsylvania. An inspirational memoir about his life is also in the works to provide invaluable information and encouragement to others who desire to follow in his footsteps. You say you STILL NEED MORE!!! Don't forget we still have our regular weekly segment Chef Barbie Marshall who is a Chef Gordon Ramsay Hell's Kitchen Season 10 finalist, appeared on Season 17 of FOX Hell's Kitchen #AllStars, as well named Pennsylvania's most influential chef by Cooking Light will delight us with her tip of the week. Jay Erisman loves Cincinnati Chili, but don't hold that against him. As co-founder of New Riff Distilling, Jay has helped turn this young distillery into one of the most exciting brands we carry.
