May the families find moments of light in these unbearably hard days. My heart is with them.In this conversation, I speak with Sydney resident Rabbi Yosef Eichenblatt, who shares his oral history of the Chanukah 2025 attack in Sydney, an event his family lived through and one in which his daughter's life was miraculously saved.Rabbi Eichenblatt speaks not only about fear and shock, but about what came after. He recalls the night following the attack, sitting at home with his family, shaken and uncertain, and consciously turning toward faith rather than retreat. Drawing deeply on the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, he describes an approach rooted in responsibility, hope, and the idea of being a messenger to spread light, especially after darkness. This is a testimony shaped by loss and danger, but also by profound optimism, a belief that light is not passive and that faith asks something active of us, even in the most fragile moments.Rabbi Yosef Eichenblatt on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/mindfulrabbi/Video from the day of the attack:https://www.instagram.com/reel/DSR06KeEg2i/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-frieda-vizel-podcast--5824414/support.

One month has passed since the terror attack in Bondi during Hanukkah celebrations, an event in which 15 people were shot while gathering on the beach to celebrate Chanukah, including 10 year old Matilda and holocaust survivor Alexander Kleytman. It has been the worst terror attack on Australian soil and shocked communities across Australia. As the Jewish community and the country mark the one month anniversary since the attack, reflections have focused on mourning, continuity and concern about the future. Jewish leaders and commentators describe a community still grieving while also grappling with questions about safety, antisemitism and whether Australia's multicultural fabric can withstand rising tensions.
In the wake of the Bondi terror attack, the federal government has announced a Royal Commission aimed at addressing antisemitism and reinforcing social cohesion across Australia. Led by former High Court Justice Virginia Bell, the inquiry will incorporate a national security review of law enforcement and intelligence. While welcomed for its broad scope, experts warn its effectiveness will depend on how it balances community cohesion, free expression, and protections against hate.

This episode blends breaking celebrity headlines with reflective conversation on a defining national moment. The show dives into the new lawsuit against Will Smith filed by tour violinist Brian King Joseph alleging sexual harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination—claims Smith’s attorney firmly denies as “false, baseless, and reckless.” It also unpacks Cardi B’s now‑deleted posts defending Stefon Diggs after his former chef accused the NFL receiver of assault and felony strangulation; Diggs’ attorneys call the allegations unsubstantiated as he awaits arraignment later this month. The team shifts gears to pop‑culture love stories, noting Cher’s admission on Armchair Expert that she “manifested” both a “man and a toddler” before meeting Alexander “AE” Edwards and bonding with his young son. Closing with a wider lens, the show marks five years since the Capitol attack—highlighting how the anniversary is fueling fresh debate and new reports on the aftermath, including mass pardons and their public‑safety implications—while urging listeners to seek peace and perspective amid the noise. A Chanukah celebration at Bondi Beach turned into a scene of terror. In this episode of the Meaningful People Podcast, we sit with a father and community leader who survived the Bondi Beach terror attack. His children were nearby. What he first thought were fireworks quickly became gunshots. Within moments, people were running, hiding, and falling. He shares, in real time, what it was like to be there: – realizing the danger – hiding with his daughter – searching desperately for his son – trying to help the wounded while protecting his child This conversation was recorded shortly after the attack, while the pain was still raw. It is honest, emotional, and unfiltered. We also speak about what came next. Lighting the menorah that night. Explaining fear to children. Holding onto faith and responsibility when everything feels shaken. This episode is not about headlines or politics. It's about survival, parenthood, community, and choosing light in the aftermath of terror. Our hearts are with all those affected by this attack, including the family of Rabbi Elie Schlinger, a beloved husband, father, and community leader who was killed. A link to support the Schlinger family is included below, as mentioned in the episode. If this story resonates, please consider sharing it. Australia suffered one of the deadliest massacres in its modern history on Sunday when two gunmen opened fire on a Jewish celebration at Bondi beach in Sydney. At least 16 people died, including one of the alleged gunmen, with more than 40 wounded. The victims include a 10-year-old child, a Holocaust survivor and a London-born rabbi. The alleged gunmen behind the attack are a father and son, who are suspected of using legally obtained firearms to commit the massacre. One of the suspects, Naveed Akram, 24, was known to New South Wales police and security agencies. The Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese, is facing questions about gun law reform and security failings as the country reels from the attack. The final chapter of Matthew Brunnemann's gripping three-part appearance on Mike Drop. In Part 3, the former Marine intel specialist and author of War Business: The Hired Guns of Helmand Province pulls no punches as he talks leaving the Corps, battling unseen PTSD, transitioning to civilian life, and the four-year journey to turn his private journals into a published book. He and Mike dive deep into the big-picture failures of Afghanistan and Iraq, the cultural incompatibilities that doomed nation-building, what America should (and shouldn't) have done after 9/11, and why the 2021 fall of Kabul still stings. Brunnemann also unloads his controversial master's thesis: a chilling, open-source prediction of a coordinated 72-hour terrorist attack that could cripple the U.S. Raw, unfiltered, and brutally honest – this is the conclusion you don't want to miss.
