You can find show notes for this episode at https://transformingmission.org/118 You've likely heard the phrase, "the calm after the storm." But how do you find calm during the storm? After all, the current storm we're experiencing as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic is already 8 weeks old. You might be thinking, "How long will this last?" or "I'm not sure how much more I can take." When leading through slow-moving storms, pausing to rest is essential. We are reminded over and over again in scripture about the rhythms of life - six days you work, one day you rest. However, when you're learning new technology, scrambling to communicate in new ways, and generally on a steep learning curve, who has time for rest? You do. When the disciples came to Jesus in Matthew 8, here is what we read: Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” 26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. (Matthew 8:23-27) Where was Jesus? Sleeping. If the Son of God can pause to rest, so can you. If Jesus needs to pause, so do you. Jesus was sleeping in the midst of a storm. Now, don't take it out of context as "he is absent from responsibility." That's NOT leadership. Leaders know what is important, what they value. Courageous leaders know that their values drive their behaviors. As a Christian leader, is your faith important to you? What behaviors are exhibited by the value of faith? Is pausing to rest one? If not, why not? Join us for this episode as we explore these questions - and more. We'll remind you of the importance of pausing to rest during a storm, how our emotions get offloaded when we don't pause, and look to Jesus to translate our values into behaviors.
Episode 57 is here! This week, Joe and Kari spark a conversation about some 80's songs that deal with the Devil's Lettuce aka marijuana. Scripture: Romans 5:6-8 In our third and final sermon from the series, "That's Not in the Bible?", Pastor Amy Mayo-Moyle preaches on the phrase, "God Helps Those Who Help Themselves." Listen as she explains how that phrase isn't in the Bible, where it originated, and why it's not really how our God, who loves us all, operates. (Links to video clips used in the sermon are below.) A common misconceptions circulating within the modern church is the notion that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is all about speaking in tongues. That's NOT true. The baptism of the Holy Spirit, according to the Bible is a separate enduement of power intended to equip a follower of Jesus for a surrendered life dedicated to the cause of the Great Commission. The Holy Spirit comes upon us to empower us for a lifestyle ministry. If we are not surrendered to the Great Commission, the baptism of the Holy Spirit will have little effect on our lives. The Holy Spirit responds to our hunger. If we will choose to reveal Jesus to the world and take action, the Spirit of God will meet us in that decision to empower us!
Scripture: Romans 8:28-30 This week we began a new mini-series - "That's Not in the Bible?" Pastor Amy talked about the colloquial saying, "Everything happens for a reason." Listen as we will look at these sayings, unpack them, and suggest some alternatives from the Bible.

I thought it'd be kind of fun to teach you about turning your product into an offer and how you can make a cool offer out of your MLMs product. First of all, if you wanna see me riding a bike and doing a podcast episode at the same time, head on over to YouTube and watch this episode ;) https://youtu.be/dFaFYxx1cVg I've had a ton of fun in the last two months. For some reason, I've been diving deep on some of these old-school marketers and the ways they used to make money WITHOUT something like the internet. I think the internet is AMAZING… But I also think it's a distraction. If you can… Remove the internet Learn what the old school guys had to do See the patterns that they went through to sell … THEN you can add the internet back into the equation! Once you’ve done that, the internet is POWERFUL. But before that, it's a distraction. We will rely too much on the distribution of the internet and use it in weird ways that aren't actually that helpful to us…. Because we don't know what to do without it. BEFORE WE START TALKING ABOUT TURNING YOUR PRODUCT INTO AN OFFER I grew up in Denver, Colorado, and I love Colorado. Colorado's amazing. I grew up in Littleton, and I'm the oldest of six kids. My parents are amazing. They were our parents FIRST before becoming our friends, which I appreciate a lot, and I'm trying to do that for my own kids. When I was like 15-years-old, several of my friends died in a car accident which made me not wanna drive or get a license. I didn't start driving until a lot later on. And my parents were being parents and they said, "Hey, we want you to go get your Eagle Scout before we'll let you drive." And I was like, "Oh well, that sucks” and for a little while, I fought it. I ended up getting my Eagle - which is great. Even though I didn’t drive, I still got around but I would ride my bike all over the place. I would bike so far! I put a lot of miles on my bike when I was in high school because I rode my bike everywhere before I got my drivers license. I went on a 10-mile bike ride the other day… And I did 20 miles the day before that. It's not that long I know, but it's not a mountain bike, so it's a lot harder. TURNING YOUR PRODUCT INTO AN OFFER I wanna talk to you about turning your product into an offer and take you back to the essence of offers. We’re also gonna look at what these old school marketers had to do to sell their products. When you realize what these guys had to do, you start to see these patterns all over the place. Then you can see how these mainstream products actually got into the marketplace. I might have told this story in the past but it’s one of my favorite stories about a man named Albert Lasker. Albert Lasker has been coined as the father of modern advertising. That’s a pretty, awesome title to have. Sunkist came to Lasker in the early 1900s and said, "Hey, we're Sunkist. We have oranges but people aren't eating enough oranges. For some reason this year, there's been an increase in orange production. Our trees are producing sooo many oranges that we're chopping our own trees down." They were literally cutting down their own trees because of the overproduction of oranges. So they want to Lasker and said, "Would you help us sell more oranges?" Lasker and his team sat back and started thinking about HOW they could increase orange consumption significantly. They came up with an idea... Which at the time, was an extremely thing. Instead of eating oranges… What if people drink the juice from the orange? No one was drinking orange juice. That was a foreign concept. He literally invented the concept! They found out that it would take two to three oranges to fill up a glass with orange juice. This is literally how orange juice came to be. It was not a thing until Albert Lasker made it up. LASKER’S ORANGE OFFER Lasker got his team together and they made this really cool campaign called "Drink an Orange." While they wanted to sell the oranges… That's NOT what they sold. Have you ever seen one of those orange press things where you chop the orange in half, take half of it and you squish it down on top of it? They created that and they called it the ORANGE EXTRACTOR. The offer that they created was “Buy the orange extractor and get a bundle of oranges for FREE." Let's think about this for a moment, 'cause this is really clever. QUESTION: What do people actually want to buy? ANSWER: The oranges. They took the sexiest part of the offer and they made it FREE! “Buy the orange extractor and get a bundle of oranges for FREE." That was the offer. Very sexy, very clever. Lasker helped save Sunkist. He's the reason orange juice came about, why Sunkist exists, and why we drink orange juice. TURNING YOUR MLM PRODUCT INTO AN OFFER QUESTION: Why am I saying at this and what does this have to do with MLM? THIS concept is what’s going to help you in turning your product into an offer! I want you to start thinking about what problems your customer has that you could solve with another product. So one of the easiest ways to sell MORE products is by turning your product into an offer and giving away something else with the sale of your product. I know what you’re thinking right now, "But my compliance won't like that." Find a freaking way to make it work! The principal is still the same and that's exactly what I do. When someone joins my downline, I tell them, "Hey, if you join my downline, I'll give you X, Y and Z that will help you get automated leads coming in to your business” P.S. It's super sexy. My MLM loves the concept and they're totally behind it. It's super awesome. I increase the value of joining my downline. That's all you're trying to do. Ask yourself, “How can I increase the value of the product that I sell?” It all comes back to turning your product into an offer. The easiest way to do that is to solve more problems for them. Start thinking about the problems that your product creates for your buyers. What problems are you giving your customers and how can you solve some of those follow-up issues? That’s all there is to turning your product into an offer. BOOM. I never tell you guys what MLM I'm in… (I think I might have let it slip once or twice) because I don't want you to think that I'm trying to pitch you. I'm trying to change the industry as a whole. HOW TO CREATE AN OFFER WITH YOUR PRODUCT We’re doing something right now that’s along these same lines as turning your product into an offer. I keep asking a specific question. Every time I ask the question, we create something else to solve problems. I sell a supplement… That's what my MLM is and that's why I talk about so many examples around that. But I've seen people use this concept for: Insurance MLMs Software MLMs … It doesn't matter what you sell, the product is irrelevant. QUESTION: What problems does my supplement cause for people once they buy it? They probably have the problem of… How much should I consume? When should I consume? Is there a time of day that works the best? Should I do it before workouts or after workouts? FOR EXAMPLE: One of the things you can do is create a guide around those things and then give it away for FREE. BOOM, you just solved more problems. You literally just created more value than the next person selling the exact same thing. Turning your product into an offer is one of the easiest ways to beat your competition. I've had some people tell me, "Stephen, there's so much competition." GOOD! That means the market has voted and likes your thing. You WANT competition. Over-saturation is a blessing NOT a hindrance. Just figure out what you can do to solve more problems than the next person. Your product doesn't sell itself… But it will be easier for people to buy because there's so much value behind it. That’s all there is to turning your product into an offer. Think as Albert Lasker did. He asked, "How can we drastically increase orange production?” And you need to ask, “How can I drastically increase my MLM product sales?" TURNING YOUR PRODUCT INTO AN OFFER IS EASY One of the best things I think you can do (and what I'm doing right now) is to write down problems that I know my community is experiencing. I don't try to solve everything because that'll kill you. But I do list out the problems that would be the most valuable to create a solution for. Then I list out problems and solutions that would be the most lucrative for me to sell. You get compensated in this life in direct proportion to the types of problems that you solve. There’s a huge difference between a problem and a valuable problem. That's why I LOVE free-market capitalism. If I go provide more value, I am gonna get paid more money. The exact same thing is true when it comes to turning your product into an offer in MLM. Even though it's not yours, you can still give away things that'll help solve problems and help people have more success with your product. Go write those problems down. Start listing it through and ask yourself, "What problems does my product create that I can solve at almost no cost to me, but with massive value to them." That's the combo I'm looking for every time I sell something. I challenge you to list out the problems that you will solve and go make cool solutions/products that you can give away for FREE when someone buys through you. That's exactly how I do it and most people who are serious in this business do the exact same thing too. LEARN HOW TO TURN YOUR PRODUCT INTO AN OFFER I know it's tough to find people to pitch after your warm market dries up, right? That moment when you finally run out of family and friends to pitch. I don't see many up lines teaching legitimate lead strategies today. Today I wanna teach you guys HOW to launch an MLM product. I'm actually really excited to teach you how to launch an MLM product. A lot of research and time has gone into planning and putting this together. I wanna do a couple of things here... First of all, I want to bring attention to and help you think about how Hollywood launches a movie. Now think about this with me for a moment. There are really cool movies that are coming out soon, and I LOVE going to movie theaters! I love... The experience When you walk in the light is a little bit dim, which makes the pupils dilate a little bit more (they do that and restaurants also) The ambiance There's a lot to it! I'm actually a theme park junky as well. I'm not gonna lie... I love Disney. I'm that guy that would totally go on rides by myself because I love the experience of it. I love that before you even get on a ride they start pre-framing you for this big build-up. HOW DOES HOLLYWOOD LAUNCH A MOVIE? Right now you’re probably thinking, "What does that to have to do with what you're talking about?" Just think about this with me for just a moment. The way Hollywood launches a movie uses very much the same kind of methods. They both use: Anticipation Build-up Hollywood is always putting out small minute-long previews a year before the film comes out. They probably don't even have the movie done… But they're saying, "Hey here's when it's coming out". Sometimes it'll just be something as simple as the title. They did this with one of the most recent Star Wars movies. They did a trailer six months ahead of time and all it did was play the iconic Star Wars music with the title and date overlayed. And the crowd went ballistic! I was like, "Oh my gosh, that's awesome." There was NO story, it didn't say anything! Now I want you to think about this a moment… WHY is this such a powerful and impactful thing? What happened six months later? They release a little bit of a story, usually about the protagonist. They tell a little bit of background and they add a little bit of conflict in. None of us like conflict but can you imagine how boring life would be if there wasn't any? We do want a little bit of drama in our lives, whether or not you're willing to admit it ;) If everything was easy 24/7 There were no challenges No trials, nothing in our life The salt of life would be gone. THE KEY TO LAUNCHING A PRODUCT Think about this with me for a moment… Three months later and they release another preview. Every single preview up until then has been giving you a specific date (or at least season if it's like a year out), "It's coming out on this day at this time". **This is very very key to understand.** They build up pressure and they build up pressure and they build up pressure up until the specific day… THEN they'll start releasing: Pre-booked tickets Specific experiences that you can have with the movie Now when the day of the actual movie comes up there's a HUGE amount of pressure that's built on a specific day in time like, "BOOM". As a society, even if you're not a huge movie-goer there's a big percentage of people who have been educated on what the movie is and what it's gonna be about. There's open loops like crazy, so there's a lot of curiosity and everyone's like, "I gotta go on that day" right? But before that comes up… They're gonna get the actors to go and hang out on night shows. They're gonna go on: Jimmy Fallon's Show The Tonight Show Today Show … They're building up pressure for this thing and at the end of each of those shows, they're like, "Make sure you go see the show coming out this day, back to you guys". If you look at what's happening, they're orchestrating this incredible event. Not at a certain location, not at one spot, but they're orchestrating an event… They're orchestrating NOISE. And that's what campaigns are, they're building a campaign. THE POWER OF A BOX OFFICE LAUNCH Now, all of this pressure gets built up and it pushes towards this specific day and then "BAM", box office weekend happens. They make so much money on the initial weekend that the movie's open, that there's usually not that much money left... I mean there's a lot of money, but nothing like that huge initial burst, "BOOM!" That huge initial burst pays for… Not just the crews It pays for ALL the stuff … Then they just live on the cash flow that's gonna come from the remainder of that film's life. THAT’S BIG. Obviously, this is NOT a new concept… But think about that. Most brand new products that there's a lot of buzz around, they ALL follow that same pattern! THESE GUYS KNEW HOW TO LAUNCH Three of my favorite guys EVER are: Albert Lasker P.T. Barnum Claude Hopkins SIDE NOTE: Have you seen the movie "The Greatest Showman"? That movie is largely made up… He started the circus as his retirement project NOT to take care of his young family. Hollywood completely made that up. Here’s some facts about P.T. Barnum: Most of P.T. Barnum's career was done around museums P.T. Barnum was the first guy to bring an elephant to America (so he made a huge deal around that) Anyway… These guys lived INCREDIBLE lives and they ALL understood the same principle of building a pressure. Stick with me because this is very, very powerful and will help you understand HOW to launch an MLM product. I KNOW one of the reasons why a lot of people don't do well in MLM is because they don't know what I'm talking about right here. When P.T. Barnum first brought an elephant to America, he wanted to make a big deal about it. He wanted to make a huge deal about it. THE P.T BARNUM STYLE LAUNCH So how did P.T. Barnum launch this elephant to the world? He was rich a rich dude. He's the second millionaire in America. One of his houses on the outskirts of New York was right next to these busy train tracks that led into the center of New York. When he brought this elephant to America, he decided to plow his fields with an elephant right next to the train tracks. The funny thing is… They were not plowing ANYTHING. They were fake plowing! NOTHING was planted there! But he continued to plow his field with an elephant next to that incredibly busy train track until over 60 reporters showed up and they ALL captured the story. These reporters ran the story all over the place. Only once he felt he had got enough buzz around him and his museum… THEN he finally stopped fake plowing his field with an elephant and sold the elephant. But that technique created a HUGE boost in revenue for his museum. He kept doing this over and over and over again, every single time he started selling something brand new. This is a BIG lesson in HOW to launch an MLM product and I'm trying to help you understand it. This is one of the reasons why people don't buy from MLM-ers even though you have a great product… Because you don't understand the principle of a campaign. Every time P.T. Barnum had a new product, he would create a campaign around the product. HOW NOT TO LAUNCH AN MLM PRODUCT Albert Lasker would do the exact same thing. PT Barnum is famous for another campaign he did around a fake Mermaid that was "caught off the coast of Fiji". He created this whole ruse. I'm not here to say whether or not that was good or bad… But the principle behind it is that whenever you have a product, you need to create a campaign. Imagine if Hollywood spent $100 million dollars putting together a two-hour movie… And the first time you hear about it, is the day it goes to the movie theater. QUESTION: How successful that would be? ANSWER: Not very successful. But most MLM-ers do that with their own MLMs product. What I'm trying to help you understand here is HOW to launch an MLM product. And to do that, you need to behave like a brand new MLM coming onto the market. You need to build: Anticipation A campaign All this pressure! … It's orchestrated noise, it's orchestrated pressure. You need to behave like a brand new MLM. Right now you’re probably thinking, "But Stephen, my MLM's not brand new." Yeah… But it might be new to all the people that you talk to about it. There are TONS of MLMs out there I don't know about. TONS. And I'm in this space with you! You need to be building up noise and pressure and anticipation around the fact that there is this AMAZING thing coming out and, for a limited window of time, "box office weekend", you can participate in this great experience. HOW TO LAUNCH AN MLM PRODUCT It's not enough to… Have a great product Always let something be available You need to take it off the market or say it's only available at this certain price/discount at this certain time. When you do that, you're behaving like a brand new company entering the marketplace. Creating buzz, creating a campaign, on a specific date, specific time, for a certain amount of time, a certain window… And then take it off. I'm not saying to stop selling the product… But for new people that you're gonna acquire there's nothing wrong with opening up the window and saying, "Hey, the promo is only available for this amount of time. You can still buy it, but the promo's only available here.” QUESTION: What do most MLMs do to their own distributors? "Hey, there's a new flavor coming out… But it's only for this time." This is a skill set that most MLMs know very well. YOU’RE the distribution channel… They actually call you a distributor. YOU’RE the one that goes and buys it. HOW TO LAUNCH AN MLM PRODUCT SUCCESSFULLY What I need to understand and the point of this episode is that you can step back and say, "Oh my gosh, I've never behaved like a brand new business.” You're technically a new company… But you DON’T enter the marketplace like a brand new company. You gotta build up the pressure around that and then turn around and say, "Hey, only available for this time." Remember what P.T. Barnum did with his elephant? He found something SHOCKING - an elephant He put it in front of distribution - a train. You can build your own distribution channels, but it is waaay faster to hook into a distribution that already exists. Find your train and start putting something out there and keep doing it until you feel like you've generated enough a BUZZ around the thing that you sell. This is big. It's one of the reasons why most people don’t know how to launch an MLM product and they don't have any success with this stuff. It's because they've never taken the time to sit back and actually orchestrate a campaign. They don't behave like Hollywood releasing a movie. Please, please behave like Hollywood releasing the movie. You’ll find an insane amount of power will come in your pocket because most people don't know how to launch an MLM product with that one skill set. A campaign is nothing more than orchestrated noise towards a specific date. HOW TO LAUNCH AN MLM PRODUCT WITHOUT FACEBOOK Facebook campaigns… That's NOT a campaign. Facebook is destroying the term campaign, they're killing it. A campaign is NOT an ad. It can be part of a campaign, but it's NOT a campaign. It's like saying a tire is a car. No, a tire is part of a car, but it's not the car. It’s the same thing with Facebook ads… Paid advertising is not the only way to get traffic. In fact, it's one of the weakest forms of it up until a certain point, and only then it becomes very powerful. Think about the old school guys like P.T. Barnum, Clyde Hopkins, Albert Lasker. These are the old-school marketers that changed the way we do a lot of stuff now. They didn't have all that tech… So how did they generate noise? ANSWER: They were pros at creating buzz around a certain date and time with a certain message. You've likely been given a script or message from your MLM You probably have an awesome offer because your product is amazing The reason why most people don't get paid in MLM for a while is that they don't know how to launch an MLM product and create campaigns. HOW TO LAUNCH AN MLM PRODUCT STEVE LARSEN STYLE What I would do is… I would interview lots of people Tell everybody that all the interviews are gonna be released on a certain date and time Sell your product on the back of it That’s almost guaranteed to generate a spike in sales. The whole point of this episode is to help you understand why you need to behave like a new company entering the marketplace and how to launch an MLM product. You can do it every quarter or every month, or however often you choose to do it. Those spikes and sales is usually what cover my business expenses for quite some time… And then I live off of the cash flow. This is a general business principle. That's some gold nuggets right there. LEARN HOW TO LAUNCH AN MLM PRODUCT Probably the biggest question I get is: “Steve, how are you using the internet for your personal MLM today?” To be clear, I am, but it's HOW that matters, and it's HOW that you're probably interested in. Facebook doesn't easily let you drive ads to MLM, and most MLMs won't even let you say their name on the internet, which is stupid. Despite those and other forces, I am using the internet to grow my personal downline and sell products. MLM is changing, and you're probably feeling that, right? It's why I created a little mini-course in a bundle… To show you HOW I'm doing this all today. It's called The MLM Funnel and you can get it at themlmfunnel.com. I'm doing this because you might not know WHERE to start in all of this and, secondly, because there's a cool new book by Russell Brunson called Network Marketing Secrets that I want you to go get. He's a cool guy, so I'm talking about this book a lot lately. I'm also going to give you a little bribe so you go get the book through my link. How evil of me. When you go to themlmfunnel.com and get Russell's new book, Network Marketing Secrets, I'm going to give you my Pre-built Recruiting Funnel Template, the Hack MLM Downline Onboarding Course, which is how I auto-train my downline when they join my team. ALSO, a discount ticket to my next event called OfferMind so that you can learn to outvalue your upline and downline. If you want all this for FREE, just go to themlmfunnel.com now and get a crash course into prebuilt funnel templates that I'm using with my own downline now. Again, just go to themlmfunnel.com and buy Russell Brunson's new book there, and I'll send you all those bonuses for free.

It’s not a showboating thing… I just want you to know that the things I teach you guys on this channel are REAL. If you’re in the program, Secret MLM Hacks, it's cool to watch you BLOW IT UP! It's been awesome. MLM SALES FUNNEL AUTOMATION Routinely, we'll get people who have BIG downlines, who are trying to find another program to sell another product… And they'll come join and it gets BIGGER and BIGGER. **IT WORKS** It works because: I’m doing this podcast Of the automation that I put in - Which is the funnels. This might not be that fast of an episode… Usually, every time I say that it's a bit longer! But you have to understand… I've had a few people reach out since I've started doing this stuff here, and they'll be like, "Stephen, my MLM will not let me do MLM funnels." And I understand what they mean… But I just need to tell you guys something real quick. If you have sold anything EVER, you used a sales funnel. WHO INVENTED THE MLM FUNNEL? What we have to understand is this whole concept of the MLM funnel... ClickFunnels DID NOT invent sales funnels. The first sales funnel that ever happened was when a caveman traded a rock for a fish with another caveman. An MLM funnel is nothing more than a sales message and an offer, THAT’S IT! Sales message Offer So, when you think about what it is that your MLM has allowed you to do… You have a SCRIPT, which is a sales message. And you have an OFFER. = You have an MLM FUNNEL. The only reason why the things that I do work so well is because most of the time, people don't build their MLM funnel with very much intent. They don't do it on PURPOSE. And because they don't do it on purpose… It doesn't work very well. Any "a-has" on that? USING A SOCIAL MEDIA FUNNEL FOR EVENTS I just finished an event here in Boise called OfferMind, it's my event. You might have even come to it, which is awesome. We had 600 people come We did about 1.9 million in sales from the stage …. It was awesome! QUESTION: Guess what I used? ANSWER: A sales funnel. "But Stephen, you were on stage." It was a sales message and an offer, therefore, it was a sales FUNNEL. I was the sales funnel, you understand? What I was doing there was super powerful and it was still a sales funnel. It's sooo much better when you can take what your MLM has given you and find a way to automate the sales message and the offer. Does that make sense? FOLLOW THE MLM FUNNEL RULES The only reason I'm doing this is that I want you to know, if your MLM has said, "You're not allowed to use an MLM funnel," you already are. When an MLM is like, "Hey, you can't do that." First of all, follow the rules. This is NOT a game to try and break the rules with. That's NOT what I'm doing. I'm not encouraging you to do that. I don't do that. But you have to understand that going on Facebook Live and telling the story of how you first started using your company's product, THAT’S a sales message. Funny enough… They're okay with you doing a social media funnel in that way. BUT the moment you put it on a page that you own, they kinda freak out. I'm just trying to help you understand that an MLM funnel is broader and BIGGER than most people think it is. It is not just these ClickFunnels sales funnels. That's a method. HOW TO BUILD A SOCIAL MEDIA FUNNEL I just wanted to walk you through a very simple way to build a social media funnel that helps build belief in people who might be doubting whether or not you should do this in your MLM. So many guys might be like, "Hey, Stephen, my MLM won't let me do this," and I totally get it. In fact, several people reached out and they'd be like, "My MLM won't let me use a social media funnel." And I'm like, "You already are." I'm like, "How many people do you have in your downline?" They'll be like, "I have several hundred people in my downline, and we do... I make 10 to 20 grand a month." And I'm like, "Cool, you already are using a social media funnel." You're already using one, otherwise, you wouldn't have all that stuff. If you sold anything EVER to anyone, at any price, whether it was free or paid, it was with a sales funnel. There's a sales message and an offer, which is all an MLM funnel is. The fact we put it on pages is a method. PROVE THAT SOCIAL MEDIA FUNNELS WORK Look at it that way, and start thinking through, “Okay, well, if that's what a social media funnel is, how can I create a social media funnel?" One of the easiest ways to prove the fact that you're using an MLM funnel is… Let's say that you have somebody in your upline or corporate HQ (something like that), and they're like, "You know what? You can't use a social media funnel. You know what? We don't want you to do these things with it." One of the easiest ways you can prove the concept of internet sales funnels works is by using Facebook. PLEASE keep to the rules. I'm NOT telling you to ride the line. All I'm saying is that most MLMs are okay with you going on social media and talking about the product. That's actually the beginning of any sales funnel. THE BEGINNING OF AN MLM FUNNEL There are TWO things you can do on Facebook (or any social media platform) 'cause usually, they're okay with that. A lot of them DON’T want you to say the name of the MLM and that's okay, Play by the rules. I do. That's why I've been able to pull it off. DON’T try to find sneaky ways, don't try to ride the line. All I do is tell the story of when I first started using my MLMs product. Think back to the day when that started happening for you. I asked somebody that once, and they're like, "Well, the reason I use the product is that it has the purest ingredients. I needed the best form of ingredients because I wanna be the best human being I can be." And I was like, "Barf, barf, barf." That is NOT what I'm talking about. Why did you make the decision to start using the product you're using? You gotta go back. We call it the epiphany bridge. What gave you the epiphany, "Oh my gosh, I need to be using that product"? It was NOT ingredients. It's usually something that's going on in your life. The MLM product that I use… I'm not gonna tell you the name of it, 'cause I keep it very third-party. I don't want you guys to think I'm selling you. I'm trying to change the industry as a whole. THE STORY BEHIND YOUR MLM FUNNEL On my dad's side, pretty much every guy has or is at EXTREME risk of type 2 diabetes and extremely high blood pressure. And then, pretty much every guy on my mom's side, have had prostate cancer. So I'm like, "Well, that sucks. What does that mean for me?" I take that very seriously, 'cause I'm like, "Shoot, son, I don't want any of that crap." I remember once, watching my dad go through some surgery. He's generally a healthy guy, but that wasn't good enough. He needed an extra level of intensity on his health 'cause it's still in our DNA. I remember sitting there, looking at him, and I was thinking. I was like, "How can I avoid this? I don't wanna do that. How do I avoid that?" In high school, I was 35% body fat. I had a double chin, I was working on a triple, I was a big boy and I was getting picked on like crazy. And I remember I was walking down the hall… Outwardly, you might have seen that I was a happy kid. I was a super nice boy. But on the inside, I was kind of this train wreck. I remember this moment where I was like, "Enough. I'm tired of being big. I wanna lose weight." And I lifted every day for the next nine months, I lost 45 pounds, I grew six inches. I went from 35% body fat down to 6% body fat. So low that it's actually 1% away from considered unhealthy. As I started growing up, and I kinda kept this habit going. I started competing in sprint triathlons and I got third in the 11th Colorado Sprint Triathlon for my age group, which was pretty awesome. SOCIAL MEDIA FUNNEL STORIES Do you see what I'm saying? I'm telling a story. What I would do if I were you is lead that up to whatever product you're selling. You have a story behind why you're using what you're using. It has NOTHING to do with the ingredients. That's not why anyone buys anything. They buy the story, not the product. Half the reason why people buy from you is that you inadvertently have told some stories about the product itself. QUESTION: You wanna make a social media funnel using Facebook? Here's how you do it. Tell the story of how you came to use the products you're using right now in MLM. What is that story? There was a story, not a feature. There's something in your past and there was a moment where you're like, "I don't want this," or, "I do want that" . Whatever that might be, tell that story. What happens in the customer's mind is, you begin to open up a gap where they sit back, and they go, "You know what? Things are not as I thought they were." It's really powerful. What happens is, you open this gap up where there's this window of belief, and they go, "I'm starting to feel open." They're not gonna say that, but that's what's going on inside their brain, psychology-wise. "I'm starting to feel like there's a possibility this could actually work for me." That's the magic of where sale happens. That's the magic of when you finally start talking about your offer, where they go, "I can see myself doing this, why don't I just try it?" That's the magic. MLM FUNNEL + SOCIAL MEDIA FUNNEL If you wanna make a social media funnel using Facebook... It's still an MLM funnel. You tell the story of how you started using the product, and then you’re like, "Hey if you're interested, please reach out, and I'd love to give you a free sample of X, Y and Z." DISCLAIMER: I don't know what you sell, so customize that to whatever it is you're doing. But do you see how you just made a sales message and an offer? A sales message is just a story. Tell a story Deliver and showed the offer to them Give a little call-to-action. "Hey, reach on out." That is one of the easiest ways to leverage any platform with a social media funnel. That is an MLM funnel. It's more powerful if you can customize the page the video is on and put testimonials on there. To the degree, you're allowed to… You can add: Some scarcity and urgency A few other stories Maybe you can have the formulator come on in and tell a little bit about it. ... You see what I'm saying? Follow the rules. I'm NOT telling you to go be sneaky or whatever. I'm just telling you that an MLM funnel is broader than most people believe that it is. That's good news, 'cause if you're like, "Oh well, I don't know that I can use this whole social media funnel thing that Stephen talks about." You already are! Just do it with a little more intent, automate it and then automate the follow-up. That's one of the easiest ways to make money. STAGE SELLING WITH A SALES FUNNEL We sold a lot of money on stage two weeks ago. QUESTION: What are we doing these last two weeks? ANSWER: Following up. I am over-communicating with my buyers. I'm saying to them, "Hey, how are you doing? What are your goals? What is it do you wanna do? Let's jump on a phone call." Do you see what I'm saying? You can automate that (and we certainly will in the future). Understand that you're already using a sales funnel, and that's one of the easiest ways to make money. If you're like, "Does this whole social media funnel thing really work?" I dare you to put it to the test. Go tell the story of how you started using your product on social media. PLEASE don't do the thing where you're like, "Working from home today." Snapshot selfie, selfie, selfie, on Instagram. THAT’S DUMB. Instead, tell the story about how you started using it and say, "If anyone's interested in a free sample, this is not meant to be high pressure, I just wanna share with whoever is interested." Tell me you don't get some sales from that. Storytelling is an art and science of and in of itself. That takes practice. But just go do it. That's how I started this show. YOU’RE ALREADY USING AN MLM FUNNEL Just start telling the stories, and get good at telling the stories. When you do it that way, it's super exciting what happens. You'll actually find that people are excited to buy from you. You know that when you go sell something to somebody, and you walk away feeling like you convinced them? You know what I'm talking about. If you don't wanna feel that when you're selling to people, the answer is to get good at storytelling. Then it makes your offer feel like a gift. Otherwise, it feels like you're convincing them… "Better hurry. Buy one, get one free by tonight. Better hurry, it's half off before this time." And then they're like... AGHHHH! They drag their feet in… They know they want it (but they kinda don't) because you kinda pushed them and there's some convincing along the way. The only reason that happens is that they weren't sold, they were convinced. People like to be sold… They don't like to be convinced. The whole point of this is to bring awareness to the fact that you already have an MLM funnel. Start thinking through, design and purposefully plan your story. Purposefully plan the offer that you're gonna drop to them. If you're serious about this and you wanna take this to a really cool level, go get the Secret MLM Hacks Program 'cause it's awesome, and that's exactly what we're talking about. I prefer 3 types of magnets over a webinar. That's NOT because webinars are bad, or because most webinars suck, but because webinars are really not the best for the top of the funnel - as in, cold traffic, which means people who don't know/like/trust you just yet. So here are my top 3 favorite types of lead magnets: #1: ... (Listen to the show for the rest.) To listen to older episodes of this show, visit https://CutToTheChase.fm

136 : Sports Are Rooted in Failure and That's Not a Bad Thing w/ My HS Math Teacher, Bill Librera Bill Librera has served as a high school athletic director for 7 years and coached for 10 years before that. Bill was also my high school math teacher at West Morris Central and had a profound impact on my academic experience. Before high school I was a C-D student who put very little effort toward my school work. After breaking my collarbone in my freshman year, I began going into school early to meet with Bill for extra help and unknowingly set the foundation for building an identity outside of sports. In the wake of the events with the University of Maryland football program and Urban Myers recent suspension, Bill and I explore the current paradigm shift in athletics in regard to what builds toughness and leads to success both on and off the field.
After coding live at Lean+Agile DC 2018, Ben Scott of Ippon Technologies joins Bob Payne to talk code craftsmanship and getting proper feedback from the business side. Ben explains a way to quickly build a quality demo from scratch – creating the first demonstrable piece of value. Bob and Scott walk through their opinions on (shudder) best practices, living in ambiguity in agile methods, and bridging the gap between IT and business. Bob Payne: [00:00:03] Hi I'm your host Bob Payne. I'm here at Lean+Agile D.C.. I'm here with Ben Scott and we're listening to "Stand in the Place Where You are" by RBM played on the music fiddle version which is really disconcerting for me. It's like Fugazi. You know elevator music which is definitely elevator music. But country elevator music. So Ben we were talking earlier about lots and lots of things but you were talking about sort of your experience here trying to do live coding and talk. What was your what was the gist of your talk? What were you talking about with. Ben Scott: [00:00:56] So, let's start with the problem statement: Whenever you start a project from scratch mainly it's really hard to get good business demos and keep the business interactive with getting proper feedback. You'll see a lot of demos with terminals. Hey let's see what my code can do and you have to look at log statements or use post postman to demonstrate APIs. And then the business kind of glazes over it. And I think a lot of issues stem from developers trying to recreate everything internally. Someone has to provide a demo that even started a presentation with zero code I could provide a business level demo with a front end application backend with database usage deployed to the cloud. All within the same presentation within 45 minutes. So that was kind of the gist, some people really liked the felt it really demonstrated well what could be done now. They're probably unsure how to adopt down to their own organization but it's mostly a show that it is able to do that and you don't have to buy it. It's FREE. Ben Scott: [00:02:14] It's opensource a tool that I use is called J Hipster and I think overall great. Bob Payne: [00:02:23] Yeah I mean for those of us who've been familiar with play or Rails or any of the generative frameworks you know that it was not should not have been surprising but I realized how how painful it is for most organizations to get to that first demonstrable piece of value. Ben Scott: [00:02:50] Yes. Bob Payne: [00:02:51] It is a little a little insane. Ben Scott: [00:02:53] It is. The key differences are with J hipster is it really tries to adopt the enterprise level technology. Bob Payne: [00:03:00] You see the full stack you've got full size containerized deployments. Ben Scott: [00:03:05] You can you don't have to but it sure does generate Docker containers. I use the docker file to let you generate a Docker container from your code. It will generate your CD pipeline script. It supports multiple privacy circles C.I. Jenkins obviously and a few other really really kind of handhold you through the whole process of getting a code from scratch all the way to diploid and ready. It can't do anything about your business level code that's on you right. But all the bootstrapping and plumbing it generates according to best practices of the time with us. Bob Payne: [00:03:45] I winced on the inside. I don't like the phrase best practices but best that I'm okay with. Ben Scott: [00:03:54] Yes well it's always a big debate. What is best practice. Like for depending on where you are which technology you're using and your opinion because it's a hotly debated topic Your Domain Driven Design or you don't. Some people really love it some people hate it. Yeah that type of thing. Bob Payne: [00:04:12] Yeah I try to stay away because people always ask us for as consultants are always asking for the answer and there really only is know fee here given your situation. Here are a few options that we've seen people be successful. Yes you know and you know I always sort of try to steer people away from that. Like calling people resources. There's a few you like hot button words that I can't make can move resources around us our projects exactly rituals and scroll to find that I hate things that that pull it out of the somewhat grey world that we actually live in. Ben Scott: [00:05:05] Yes I actually like to prefer I prefer to live in this ambiguity. I don't like to define what scrum is definitely. I don't like too dear to a Agile philosophy per se or implementation whenever somebody dresses. Hey what is ads out to you. To me it's you delivered a piece of software that was correct at the right time and how you got there might differ based on the people working in your company. Yes we might use Scrum or not. It depends if it's a good fit with that place and sometimes it's now or sometimes they just decide as long as we do what scrum says we are agile and we just get away from what they really mean. Bob Payne: [00:05:50] Yeah. Defer to authority. There is a good strategy. Ben Scott: [00:05:55] So I don't like to prescribe things. Bob Payne:[00:05:57] Yeah. Ben Scott: [00:05:58] When we hire Scrum Masters always ask me what's your process. What tool to use. You know you use Jira. I don't prescribe - you use what you like to use right. Ben Scott: [00:06:07] Well your client will let you use yes whatever you is best for your situation which will change. Bob Payne: [00:06:15] So how do you so I know you've been doing a lot of technical coaching coaching. What do you what do you find most rewarding. Because sometimes it's it's you know it's it's a tough slog sometimes and there are always those little nuggets that just say yeah you know that will keep me going for a few months banging my head against this team or this wall or whatever. Ben Scott: [00:06:43] So I really enjoy bringing upskilling developers on where they lack and I'm not a awesome developer. I'm a very niche developer who understand the agile practices so I can do their job testing frameworks Cucumber, or perform sensing as a Gatling I know how to do them and the basic forms right and the tools to know how to use them. Eventually it clicks at first like I don't want it. It is what QA is for but eventually it clicks and it's really fun to see a click. Likewise I work a lot with the business side on bridging the gap between developers and the business we actually start working together instead of the whole campus. This is the business that we need to take to go on like what we need is. Of course we do to this refactoring. We need to adopt this technology or just trying to bring them together so they actually work as a team and we'll stack clicks which is much harder than it was going developers. Bob Payne: [00:07:40] Yeah. Ben Scott: [00:07:41] That's that's really fun. Bob Payne: [00:07:42] Yeah that is. Yeah. We like speed we have that sort of mission of making people's lives more valued fulfilling and productive. It's kind of our or our mission if we can do that on an individual basis or you know we health and organization so that it helps the folks. But it all fundamentally comes down to you know people people in interactions and you know hopefully making a you know a decent world for them to sort of grind away at the code code is an unforgiving. Ben Scott: [00:08:21] Yes we'll spend days looking for that tiny little mistake. Bob Payne: [00:08:27] Yeah yeah. So what's the other big dogmatic thing you're railing against. I don't know that you're actually railing against any big dogmatic things but you seem like the sort of person that might. Ben Scott: [00:08:41] There are some things I'm very strict on and it's is code craftsmanship to the detriment of sometimes I'm actually delivering value and I understand that. But there are times to be fast and dirty. You have a production bug. Bob Payne: [00:08:55] Yep. Ben Scott: [00:08:56] There's a feature that needs to go to the market right away. OK we can do that fast and dirty. But if that's every time there's a problem. Bob Payne: [00:09:06] Right. Ben Scott: [00:09:06] And at that point I don't have any issues slowing everything down and I guess focus on craftsmanship. Let's focus on actually teaching what solid principles mean because over time you're going into being faster more maintainable code. The sustainable pace and that takes time to learn. It might take six months a year to really get there. It's a huge investment and it's the responsibility of the entire organization to to foster that. So just like we have the Center for agile excellence or you go to an agile coach organization talk about processes. Ben Scott: [00:09:39] You should have a software craftsmanship as well a new way to mentor the developers. And that practice that's probably where I'm the most strict on. Bob Payne: [00:09:51] OK yeah no that's ... Yeah. That's a good place to be strict I think. I often think of the three things that can make a great team. It's discipline, continuous improvement, and play the long game you know not the short term gain necessarily but product delivery is is not project right now. Ben Scott: [00:10:16] And I completely understand there's times we have to go really fast for whatever reason it is. Maybe there's a bug that's costing thousands of dollars. When it's in production. Bob Payne: [00:10:23] Yeah. Ben Scott: [00:10:24] And yes. Quick and dirty fix but then think about it and fix it again the right way. Bob Payne: [00:10:30] Yeah. Well everybody. It's interesting because that the current understanding where the current sort of popular understanding of technical debt is that it is a bad thing and you know when they first started talking about it Ward Cunningham and and you know some of the folks on the first XP team actually used it in more the financial term debt. Sometimes you do take down. You know you go fast to be quick and you might incur some debt. You got to pay it down. Always cost a little bit more to pay it down. But sometimes that's the right decision. But when you're paying off the credit card with another credit card you're in drips. Ben Scott: [00:11:20] That compounds quickly. Bob Payne: [00:11:21] Then You need to re platform the whole thing. Ben Scott: [00:11:26] And then it just never ends. Bob Payne: [00:11:27] Yeah. Bob Payne: [00:11:28] And that's what the craftsmanship comes in play because if you instill those values when you build a new software and maybe you'll be a little bit better and last longer. Bob Payne: [00:11:36] Yeah. So is IPPON primarily you know do you or most of the folks steeped in XP stream programming and. Ben Scott: [00:11:47] So I would say most of us are what I would consider like Premier consultants as far as developers. Most of us are developers. So in that sense we're a bit different from most agile consulting companies. We focus a lot on the engineering aspect of agile versus the process and most of our developers don't always subscribe to Agile values. They like to get their stuff done and they're like good code and beautiful aspects that don't always adhere to delivering to agile way which is fine. But you couple that wish people would truly understand agile and you've just multiplied yet the actual value of it. It's like the cross-functional needed agile deep expertise to guide the ship but you still need a technical deep expertise on what good coding practices look like. Yeah and we also like to embed with our clients. We don't always like to take the whole project and then deliver at the end. We like to develop right and while we could develop we'll pair with them or we'll teach developed practices how to test and how to automate the whole thing and the whole the whole package. I think that's where our values will be different than other places. Bob Payne: [00:13:07] Yes. And we've you know at LitheSpeed we've been happy to be able to partner with the guys periodically because we focus primarily on the people in the process and you guys can focus on the technical chops. Ben Scott: [00:13:25] Yes. Bob Payne: [00:13:25] Yeah. I'm primarily a PowerPoint engineer and there is no PPT unit. Ben Scott: [00:13:34] No I'm really bad at PowerPoint. Bob Payne: [00:13:39] I wouldn't say I'm good. But the reason I'm not very good is because there's no there's no unit test framework to how to get good. I was talking to somebody earlier because I I was when I was developing you know I got immediately test infected like TTD like real TDD not the ATDD or BDD. Not that those things are bad but that thinking and design process of TDD was an amazing force multiplier for me as not a terribly great developer. It allowed me to focus know where I was know that I hadn't broken something else because I couldn't keep every esoteric detail from the entire system. Ben Scott: [00:14:38] Yes. Bob Payne: [00:14:39] In my head some people love that they loved the challenge of I've got every single detail in my head. But that doesn't scale. It does and test. Ben Scott: [00:14:52] It's a good thing you brought TDD like I have my own opinions about it. And you're right. Some people love us some people hate it. And to me there's a lot of focus from the process scores to do TDD when developers aren't ready for it. Bob Payne: [00:15:06] Yeah yeah yeah. Ben Scott: [00:15:07] Just like everything will be fine if you just do TDD. Bob Payne: [00:15:11] Yeah I don't believe that to be true. Everything will be fine if you have engineers that are that are that really you know there I sort of look at the code and you can see the thought process of the developer in the code and that is much easier for me to read to read tested code than it is to to create an elegant you know you start throwing in some Lambda's there and we're we're we're parked. I mean because I struck part of my psychosis if you will. And I think it's reasonable to call it that around TDD as I started in Lisp and I don't know if you've ever tried to debug lisp or scala. It's probably easier now and in scala but there's just the interpreter. Back when I was doing this so you had a command line and you read in a file and something pops out and it is the most amazing black box in the world because it's just it's interpreted. It's a functional language and 42 is the answer, right? I forgot the question we asked in end. So unless you knew that those little pieces worked. Yes pull that out throw it into an interpreter and see if it give it some some values in and see if it makes sense because all it takes is a misplaced pen. It could be anywhere and it will usually evolve out to something that still works. Ben Scott: [00:17:04] And I guess where I differ what it is like or I'm strict on tests in the same commit as the code. Bob Payne: [00:17:11] Yeah. Ben Scott: [00:17:12] I don't prescribe to. You must write a test first. Bob Payne: [00:17:15] Sure. Ben Scott: [00:17:16] But it must be in the same commit. Yeah that's that's kind of where I differ. And some people are really good at writing tests first. Some are not. Bob Payne: [00:17:24] Yeah. Ben Scott: [00:17:24] But everybody should be able to write before or after, there's not. Never does ..That's Not allowed. Bob Payne: [00:17:31] Yeah I think it's a reasonable place to be strict. I think for me just I. Bob Payne: [00:17:39] I loved Arlo Belshee. I think it was our Arlo Belshee that coined the term test infected because some people either are or are not. And it's like you know that zombie strain virus. And I don't know which side is the zombie in which is the not here but I think the TTD folks are probably the zombies. But if you were when you find yourself on one side of that divide I think that the folks that actually like TTD and I know it is not universal. It's it's one of the more powerful and least used agile engineering practices. Ben Scott: [00:18:15] Yes. Bob Payne: [00:18:16] I mean Pairing, people say they pair, but nobody pairs. I mean not like. Ben Scott: [00:18:21] Well not like extreme program where you must pair. Right. We like to pair for occasions like right. Here's a difficult piece of code. Let's work on it together or for mentoring. We'll pair for code reviews the type of thing we'll do some pairing for writing prose not so much right. How hard is it to write Pojos. You know it's so many people go down this rabbit hole to we test the setters and getters like I don't care. Like ok. Probably not. I'm OK. But really how long would it take you to actually do it if you said if everybody said we need to. Ben Scott: [00:19:09] So. So interesting thing. So the debate by just writing a piece of code using reflection finds a perjures sets the value gets the value a certain done. So all my pages are tested automatically. Bob Payne: [00:19:25] Yeah. and now with generative frameworks it is it is relatively easy. I was cured of that debate because I'm not a great programmer. When I misformatted the way I created a Java date. And so when I made and I always know how to make your assertion not against the same constructor that you used. So I use distracted at this other date class add some other stuff in and misuse the constructor and when I assert it against the string format it value, i'm like "Well that's not right." And I don't know that I would have found that regular regular test or I would have I would have found like f'd up dates in the database or in the persistence layer or in the front end and I'm like I might not know. Then I've got a whole different problem but because I knew it I found out early that it didn't work like the debugging. For me it was just so much so much easier. Ben Scott: [00:20:36] And eventually you have to use common sense. You look at your POJO like well maybe I don't need to test every single one of them. But if you're serializing a date you should test that because for whatever reason it's so strict that the date format it will kill you application is different for might just use a whole AI behind it to be able to extract data and decide what date it is. Bob Payne: [00:21:00] You guys likes you know you guys like screw up the order of the month and the day like what is this? Ben Scott: [00:21:05] It has Slashes no slashes. Bob Payne: [00:21:07] Dashes no dashes, dots.. Ben Scott: [00:21:10] Or you add milliseconds and you expect no milliseconds and it still won't truncate it'll just die right there. Bob Payne: [00:21:17] Yeah. Ben Scott: [00:21:17] So testing that. That's a good test. Typically also have a serialization test if it's data layer i'll serialize or deserialize back to the object, validate, but I might not validate. Bob Payne: [00:21:30] You know that was that it was more important when he had to write her own serializer. Ben Scott: [00:21:37] Well I don't write my own serializer but I do write my own test for the annotations like for date format for example did you do the right format right. Does the precision matter or those type of things you have and I'm working on a project right now that for whatever reason the order matters. The order should not matter but whoever was sending it to they got that code where the order of your serialization matters and they can't just construct the object they actually validate it in its raw format first. Bob Payne: [00:22:05] Okay. Ben Scott: [00:22:06] So then we have to validate that we send in the right Json format but in the right order each field. It shouldn't matter. At least in my opinion it should not matter. Bob Payne: [00:22:15] No. But yeah well unless you want strong coupling in implementations which I'm shocked at how many are organizations really like strong coupling. Ben Scott: [00:22:33] I'm not sure they like it or just live with it. Bob Payne: [00:22:36] Yeah it's Like oh my god. It's like it's like the old Korbo or SOAP. Oh man. Ben Scott: [00:22:42] This is how we've always done it so we will continue. Bob Payne: [00:22:44] Yeah. Yep. So what else would do you. What's interesting to you in what hobbies do you have besides like? Ben Scott: [00:22:56] Kids.. Does that count as Hobbies? Bob Payne: [00:22:58] Yeah. Ben Scott: [00:22:59] It takes a lot of my time - it's fun time, it's really interesting and enjoyable to watch and grow. But I did find my most of my hobbies dropped away little by little. Bob Payne: [00:23:10] Yeah. Ben Scott: [00:23:13] When I did become a parent. Bob Payne: [00:23:16] I picked up new hobbies like I had never watched soccer before because I didn't like sports because those were the people that beat up the geeks. And now I'm doing like Magic the Gathering which I avoided in college like the plague. Ben Scott: [00:23:43] I never got into that. Bob Payne: [00:23:43] Because I was more of a punk than a D&D. There's a reasonable Venn diagram there. But but. Now I'm going to Friday Night Magic with my son. Ben Scott: [00:23:55] So that's a very fun but very expensive game. Bob Payne: [00:23:59] It is. Like you know a lot of people like do sports gambling. I think that's even worse. You know. Ben Scott: [00:24:06] Yes. Bob Payne: [00:24:07] Liaisons in a Russian hotel. Let it get very expensive very quickly depending on what you're doing. Ben Scott: [00:24:17] And I also do gaming video games typically do single player story type games. Bob Payne: [00:24:23] Oh really? given your military background. You've had enough First Person Shooter.. Ben Scott: [00:24:31] We'll it's more that to play online takes dedicated time whereas a single player. I can stop anytime. Pause and walk away. Bob Payne: [00:24:39] Yeah. Ben Scott: [00:24:40] I find that sometimes as a parent it's really hard to get an hour dedicated time. Bob Payne: [00:24:43] Oh yeah yeah. Ben Scott: [00:24:44] straight to play, it's like no I cannot help you to do anything because I'm in my game. If I'm doing single player I can quickly pause and do something else. That's how I mostly got into it. Ben Scott: [00:24:54] Before kids I was mostly into Dota. Bob Payne: [00:24:59] sorry? Ben Scott: [00:24:59] Dota Which is a different type of game. Bob Payne: [00:25:02] OK. Ben Scott: [00:25:03] League of Legends. Very similar as the birth of League of Legends. Was one of the first of those types of games. Bob Payne: [00:25:11] Okay. But that's when I decided it would be hard for me to play because it requires 1 hour blocks. Bob Payne: [00:25:19] Oh yeah. Yeah. Ben Scott: [00:25:22] Couldn't dedicate that anymore. Bob Payne: [00:25:23] I know, yeah. So there's there's probably a game waiting for me this evening when I go home. So let's see. But. Ben Scott: [00:25:35] Let's see what else now spend time with family. Every Wednesday we have. Bob Payne: [00:25:42] Long walks on the beach and. Ben Scott: [00:25:43] Ah.. Not that, Just cook and eat and and drink and be merry. Revolves around food, and every Wednesday we have big family dinner. Bob Payne: [00:25:55] Wednesday? Ben Scott:[00:25:55] Yeah Wednesday just because weekends are crazy. We also do on weekends. But we found that doing it in the middle of the week it kind of cuts the week and half. Bob Payne: [00:26:04] Yeah. You talk about work a little bit the stress and excuse to escape the daily grind of get up go to work. Come back do homework or other things. It's another event middle of the week that's a bit unusual but yeah it works for us. Bob Payne: [00:26:22] Yeah Wednesdays are not that exciting, it's dessert day. So. Ben Scott: [00:26:26] I like family Wednesdays. It's fun. Bob Payne: [00:26:29] Ok cool. We'll have to we'll have to do dessert/Dota/. Ben Scott: [00:26:37] Well I haven't played that game in so long i'd probably be terrible at it now. Bob Payne: [00:26:41] It's ok. You're better than I am Ben Scott: [00:26:44] Probably. Bob Payne: [00:26:48] Thanks a lot, Ben Really appreciate it.

EPISODE TRANSCRIPT Welcome to Chris Malta's EBiz Insider Podcast, where the only thing separating you from the TRUTH about ECommerce, is everybody ELSE in this business! There are a lot of so-called EBiz "gurus" out there who tell you that you can make a killing online buying and selling liquidated products. They tell you that you can buy them for pennies on the dollar, then turn around and sell them at retail on eBay, Amazon, and so on. To most people who don't have a lot of experience in retail, that sounds pretty exciting. To those who DO have experience in retail, however, buying and selling liquidations is about as exciting as putting on a $3,000 pair of Christian Louboutin sneakers and accidentally stepping in a mud puddle. First, you have to understand that there's a lot of risk involved, even if the "liquidation" price seems low. Liquidated products (also called “secondary market goods” to make the whole thing sound a little less horrifying) come from lots of sources. They COULD (rarely!) be factory overruns that never left the manufacturer or last year’s models that were never sold at the retail store. Much more likely, though, they're customer returns to big-box stores, used products such as old computers or other outdated electronics, incomplete or damaged scratch-n-dents, etc. It's hard to tell what you're actually getting, because the descriptions of the ORIGIN and CONDITION of the liquidated products are often vague, or even flat-out misleading. There are lots of web sites that advertise liquidations, acting as brokers. The web sites themselves, though, are simply paid advertising platforms. No matter how good their reputations, they do not control the actual liquidation sales themselves. Most don’t even check out the legitimacy of the liquidators advertising on them. That’s on your head; you’re the one who has to make sure you’re not getting burned when you buy. You could easily end up with a "waste factor" of 20 to 30% or more. "Waste" means products that are damaged, dented, non-functional, dirty, torn or generally useless for one reason or another. Of course the damaged boxes that contain the waste will almost always be hidden out of sight in the middle of the pallet you buy. On top of all that, always remember that liquidated products are liquidated in the first place because nobody ELSE could sell them at retail! Second, if you're buying liquidated product pallets, you're most likely trying to sell those products on eBay or Amazon. If you've been told that selling on EITHER of those platforms is a good idea for a home-based business owner, go get some of those $3,000 Louboutin sneakers and look for a mud puddle. At least that won't be as disappointing as finding out that there are no profit margins left for home-based business owners on eBay or Amazon. (For more info on that sorry state of affairs, check out my Podcasts and Blog Posts on eBay and Amazon). Third, no matter where you try to sell liquidated products, the fact that you're carrying physical inventory is going to hurt your business. Selling online SHOULD be a situation in which you NEVER actually touch a product. You should NOT be storing, cleaning, packing and shipping somebody else's leftovers one at a time for a miserable profit. That's NOT an effective business model. Fourth, the only people making any real money in liquidation are the brokers. The ones you buy the pallets from. The bigger brokers buy TRUCKLOADS of liquidation pallets all at once at REALLY low prices from big companies that couldn't sell the products for one reason or another, SIGHT UNSEEN. They do NOT inspect those individual pallets. Then they unload them on YOU at a profit without even looking at them, and YOU'RE the one who gets to deal with all the heartache of trying to sell that junk at something approaching an individual profit margin that MIGHT get you a beer and a bag of chips if you're lucky. Look, if you're going to be in business, BE IN BUSINESS. Forget about the gimmicks and all the other crap that sounds too good to be true. It IS too good to be true. Get away from eBay and Amazon. Learn how to plan, research and start your own website, where you actually are your own boss. Sell NEW products that people actually WANT from legitimate manufacturers and wholesalers. Use drop shipping so that you don't have to invest any money or handle the products physically. That's how the people who make money in this business actually make money in this business. Anybody who tells you different is lying to you. Simple as that. For much more no-holds-barred real life EBiz information, check out my FREE EBiz Insider Video Series at ChrisMalta.com. Find much more TRUTH about ECommerce on my site. EPISODE TRANSCRIPT Welcome to Chris Malta's EBiz Insider Podcast, where the only time you WON'T hear the truth, is AFTER YOU LEAVE! When I consult for ECommerce businesses or teach EBiz owners who already have sites, one of the things that stands out the most to me is the total lack of an Identity Package for that ECommerce business. An Identity Package helps to set the tone for site design, marketing style, and the entire Brand Identity of the business. A well-constructed Branding Identity is an absolute MUST for ANY business to be truly successful, online or offline. For an EBiz, an Identity Package for branding consists of three things: 1. A GOOD SITE NAME I’m often surprised by the number of people who have taken bad advice or learned the wrong things and given their web sites names that will do nothing for their business at best, and hurt it at worst. I don’t blame the site owners; there’s a tremendous amount of bad info floating around out there. However, when it comes to branding, they do need to learn how to do it right. How many times have you seen a site named something like “MyGreatBargains.com”, or “GreatBuys4U.com”, or “BigPlaceFullOfExcellentThingsAtLowPrices.com”? Okay, that last one is a stretch, but you know what I mean, right? Actually, that was a trick question. You probably only rarely come across sites with a names like that. Why? Because they don’t rank well in the search engines, and hardly ever get found by shoppers. The reason they don’t rank well is another topic altogether; perhaps a discussion for another day, but I’ll mention it here in passing. They don’t rank because they’re trying to sell a whole bunch of different products on the same web site. Those products all have widely different Keywords in their product names and marketing content. Google and the other search engines rank best on RELEVANT Keyword content; Keywords that they know are related to one another in some way. So, when the search engines see a site that has page after page of words describing products that the search engine knows are NOT related to one another, that site doesn’t rank well n omatter how good it's branding might be. Period. Yep, I know, big-box stores that carry widely varied stuff seem to rank pretty well, don’t they. However, that’s for different reasons altogether, and they can be beaten with highly targeted web sites. For that reason and many others, small home-based EBiz sites need to sell ONLY one specific product line per site in order to do well in the search engines. As I said, though, that’s a topic for another time. There are LOTS of details involved in making an ECommerce business successful, and right now we're talking about ONE of those things: Branding. So let’s get back to our conversation about an Identity Package, with site names being the first thing to learn. A site name needs to reflect what it sells. On a properly built, web site with thoughtful branding, that will be something very specific. However, it can’t just be “Toasters.com”. For one thing, that name is already taken, which most of the best product-descriptive names are. For another, though, a site name needs to connect with its consumer demographic. To connect with its consumer demographic, the business owner needs to know who that consumer demographic IS. I'll talk about that in another post in this blog. Back to names, now. Let’s say that an EBiz owner sells a very specific line of toasters that is best suited for a female audience (a demographic) made up of older women who have a serious passion for baking and cooking. What site name do you think would appeal more to that consumer audience? – BestToasters4U.com – CheapToasters.com – CozyKitchenToasters.com If you picked the last one, you’re right. A site name, like everything else in marketing, needs to tell part of a story and also make an emotional connection with its consumers. That's part of branding. CozyKitchenToasters.com evokes a warm, comfortable, familiar place where family gathers and great food is carefully made with lots of love. The other two choices, well…don’t. So, you can see the difference between thoughtless, sales-gimmicky names and a carefully selected audience-driven name, right? Good. That leads us to some of the other things a good site name does. It helps to drive site design. A name like that inspires a site with a warm, rich color palette, a cozy, comfortable graphic treatment and a very personally friendly space. What else does it do? Among other things, it helps to inspire the creation of the second part of an Identity Package for branding. The Tagline. 2. A GOOD TAGLINE These used to be called “slogans”. Now we call them Taglines, or ‘Tags’ for short. A business without a Tagline in it's branding is a business that needs to get one, or close up shop. I cannot stress strongly enough that this is a critical part of your Identity Package, and your Identity Package is a critical part of your branding. Your branding is a critical part of your marketing, and…well, I’m sure you get the idea! In ECommerce, Tag Lines are generally best inspired by site names. The Tag needs to support the name, while at the same time telling another part of the branding story. Professional copywriters who create Taglines often go through dozens, if not more than a hundred different ideas before settling on a good Tag. This is not something to be taken lightly. Remember, it has to support the name, and tell more of the story of the brand. “You’ve tried the rest, now try the best!” isn’t gonna cut it. At one time, that Tag was clever. That’s when it was new, back before humans discovered fire. A good Tagline needs to be short, memorable, part of a story, and supportive of the brand. It needs to CONNECT with people emotionally as well, just like the site name should. Another rule of thumb is that a Tagline shouldn’t ever be more than 3 to 5 words. That makes them much easier for consumers to remember, and that’s what you want. Think of some of the most memorable Tags you know. – Don’t leave home with it (5 words) – You deserve a break today (5 words) – Just Do It (3 words) – The quicker picker-upper (4 words) – The King of beers (4 words) See what I mean? Short, memorable, and telling part of a story. Let’s look at the first one; the American Express Tagline “Don’t Leave Home Without It”. This Tag is using negative reinforcement to create a scary imagined impact if you DON’T have the product. Warning a fellow human being not to leave a safe, comfortable place and go out into the big, bad world without a taking specific thing along makes a very visceral connection with us psychologically. It subconsciously makes us feel like bad, BAD things are going to happen if we leave our home without this thing. Again, it’s psychology. As humans, we look to other humans to warn us of danger, and a need to pay attention to those warnings is deeply ingrained in our psyche. So, a negatively reinforcing Tagline like that works very well in branding. What Tagline would we give our CozyKitchenToasters.com web site? There are lots of possibilities, and there’s a serious amount of research to do before choosing one, but I’ll just throw one out there off the top of my head. (Excuse me while I remove my hat…) Okay, how about: "Real kitchens bake with love". That’s 5 words. Yeah, I know, it sounds a little sappy when you look at it sitting there all by itself. Hey, I spent all of 30 seconds coming up with that; cut me a little slack! BUT, put that Tag together with the site name ‘CozyKitchenToasters.com’ and the right graphic design, and I promise you it will look perfectly natural in that site's branding, make an emotional connection, and tell another part of the story of the site’s Brand. There’s still one thing missing, though. The site name and Tagline will play a part in helping us to design the third and final part of an Identity Package for branding: The Logo. 3. A GOOD LOGO How many times have you seen a web site that just has text in the top left corner of each page that says something like ‘BobsWebSite.com’? Probably too often. That's NOT branding. The top left corner of any page on your web site is the first impression your customers have of your Brand. We all know how important first impressions are. Because we’re raised to read left to right, top to bottom (in most Western cultures, anyway) the first thing we see when our eyes hit a new piece of media, like a web page, is the top left corner of the page. That’s where our brains expect us to start reading, so that’s the first place our eyes go. Sometimes we don’t even realize that, but it happens every time. No matter where we THINK we looked first, our brains instantly register whatever is in that top left corner. The brainiacs at MIT tell us that the human brain can register and recall an image that it sees for as little as 13 MILLISECONDS. That’s 13 one-thousands of a second!! So don’t think for a millisecond that your customers’ brains don’t take whatever is in the top left corner of your web site pages as their first impression of your business and branding; they absolutely do. If that top left corner is a flat, dry, no-personality lump of text that says ‘BobsWebSite.com’, you’ve already lost that customer in their first couple of seconds on your site. At that point even the customer doesn’t consciously realize it yet, but SUBconsciously they already know they’re not going to buy anything from you, because you've killed your branding before it got a chance to get started. A good Logo completes your Identity Package and is a cornerstone of your site’s branding. In a quick, visually symbolic way, a good Logo captures attention, tells yet another part of the Brand story, sets a mood for your customers and much more. Professional designers charge thousands of dollars for a really good Logo, because they do a lot of research into your customer demographic and your product market and play with dozens of ideas before finalizing the design. Don’t think you can get a good Logo from one of those five-dollar graphics sites. The graphic artists who do those dirt-cheap Logo designs literally time themselves and only devote about 10 to 15 minutes of their time to each Logo they create. How else can we realistically expect them to make any money otherwise? They’re not doing it for fun! 10 to 15 minutes isn’t going to get you a good Logo, though, and a bad Logo will sink your branding faster than a boat anchor chained to a dog biscuit. So where do you get a good Logo? Here are three suggestions, from best to worst case scenario. It’s probably the last thing you want to hear, but any business owner who’s serious about building a successful business from the ground up needs to develop multiple skills. As an Ebiz owner, you need to have some familiarity with graphics software like Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. If you spend some time with it, you can come up with a Logo on your own. Just make sure to study other successful Logos in your market and take your time. Or, you could find a friend or family member who’s good at sketching or drawing and work with them. Finally, if you must, you can try to find a designer who will spend more than 15 minutes on your Logo. You WILL have to pay them a pretty chunky amount of money for their time, though, if you expect a reasonable Logo in return. Remember that your Logo will be greatly influenced by the other parts of your Identity Package; your Site Name and your Tagline, so they must be developed first. Logos come in several forms: Word Mark – this Logo form is simply the name of the company written out in a stylized font with no graphics. Think Disney. Icon – this Logo form is simply a graphic that stands on its own. Think Apple. Lettermark – this form of Logo is the initials of a company name in a stylized text font with no graphics. Think CNN. Combination Mark – this form of Logo uses both a Word Mark and an Icon. Think Adobe. Emblem – this form of Logo consist of words or letters inside a graphic design. Think Harley-Davidson. Our CozyKitchenToasters.com site name could use any of these forms of Logo, as can most site name and Tagline combinations. 4. WHAT'S NEXT? Session 25 Many students worry about not knowing enough medical information or specific laws for the MMI or general interviews. We'll dig into that today. I was working with a student for a mock interview and we had a Jehovah's witness scenario where the minor was awake. And the minor is going against what the mom/guardian says. What do you do? For the most part, the minor doesn't have the legal rights. So it's always what the parent wants. So the student was a little confused. [00:49] You Don't Understand Everything, That's Not the Goal of the MMI Remember that during the MMI, the people that write these scenarios, along with the interviewers and the actors, that you are a premed student. Unless you're a former lawyer, you don't know all the laws around it. And even if you are, you might not necessarily know all the laws surrounding things in the healthcare world. So they understand that you don't know the in's and out's of the medical field, nor the proper treatments or proper protocols for things. You don't need to go down that route. You're not expected to know all of that. So don't worry about that aspect of an answer. "Just give me your thoughts and your thought processes behind your ideas. That's the goal of the MMI." [02:01] You're Never Alone You also have to understand that you are never alone, not in a scenario, and not in real life. If this is your first Jehovah's witness patient and the patient is still awake and says something, you don't just give it to them. Tell them that you're calling a colleague or the hospital legal team or the hospital ethics committee. "You can always phone a friend and you'll never be wrong for that. So don't worry about asking for help." So if asked this question, tell the interviewer you're going to call a colleague or the hospital administration. This is your thought process and that's what the interview is going after - your thought process. Again, you don't know the in's and out's of everything. You just have to know that you need to communicate your thought process, your ideas, and your reasons behind your answer. Communicate, communicate, communicate. It's quite a common experience. You hit 30 or 35 years of age and think to yourself: How did I end up HERE? Why am I working at THIS job? Living in THIS town? That's NOT what I had hoped/planned/dreamed when I was younger. In this message, Max Vanderpool makes a case for why some people end up places they didn't intend - because that's where the river took them.
How not to get married in France, and what to serve in case uniformed officers turn up on your doorstep What you will learn how NOT to get married in France the best food you can serve in case any policemen turn up on your doorstep At the end of this episode I'll share with you the best food I think can come in handy to offer policemen because it contains a super stress-busting food. On with the story This story is about one of my girlfriends, whom I'll call Masha. Masha was really smart. And in Masha's defence, I've got to say straight away that she didn't actually know that her husband, whom I'll call Paul, was a felon when she married him. I think Masha was smarter than me. I married my French hypnotist much later in a messy, grey sort of way (which I talk about in episode 3). Masha however knew that she wanted to do an exchange. She was American, and she wanted to be able to live and work in France. So she decided she'd marry a Frenchman who wanted to be able to live and work in the US, and it would be a win-win. Right? They'd stay in France for a while and then both go their separate ways. How we found each other Now I don't remember how she found Paul. I think she started asking around rather than place an ad or something. Remember there was no internet so you couldn't hop onto a forum like 'marry me dot net' or whatever. You had to find someone with more traditional methods. She might have put up a poster? No, I don't think so. That would have been scary. Oh but first I have to tell you how I found her. That was really weird. Masha and I were actually friends in high school back in the States. We didn't really see each other just the two of us, but we hung out with the same group of people. One day in Paris, so after university which was like 5 years later, I'm standing in this gym waiting for my aerobics class to begin. Suddenly this girl comes up to me and she asks me in French if I'm Barbara. As soon as I saw her eyes I knew it was Masha and I was like 'No way! How are you!' and it was amazing! Can you imagine, bumping into a high school friend in an aerobics class in another country? I mean, it was too weird. So Masha gets married I was so happy to have found Masha. It can be kind of tough when you're away from family and anything that's familiar in a new country with a new language and all of that. So we had a lot of fun together, it was really great. And of course we had had some of the same experiences when we arrived. We even both wound up with French husbands. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Anyway, I was teaching English at the time I think (surprise, surprise). I hadn't heard from Masha in a little while, but one day I get a phone call from her. She was like "Hey, I got married" and I was like "What?" Masha said "Yeah, I needed my papers, he wanted US papers, so yeah, it's all done and I've got my French resident card now". Well to get a French resident card was all I'd ever wanted. I used to have nightmares about the French police banging down my door and saying "where are your papers?". And I hadn't gotten married yet because I was hoping to do things another way, but Masha didn't wait. She treated the whole thing like a business transaction, and she got what she wanted. Some live with models, some live with weirdos Masha also had this really cool job. She was working with models and photographers, working on fashion shoots and going to glamorous parties and stuff like that. I was working in various office jobs and living with my French hypnotist who was still being pursued by Scientologists (but that's another story). So I could really feel the contrast in our daily lives. I admired Masha when she told me about her whole arrangement. I mean, she made the whole thing sound so easy, and I thought it was very brave, in a crazy kind of way. So things for Masha worked out really well. Paul left France - he went to the US (I won't say where in case he recognizes this story and is tempted to come after me, ha!). And once he was in the US, Masha didn't really hear anything from him which was fine with her. She said the whole thing was very amicable and that Paul was a nice guy - a good-looking guy too, I mean I never saw him but I took Masha's word for it. Considering she was working with models, he must have been seriously hot. Knock knock, guess who? Everything was fine for Masha. She was working and doing her thing, loving her life in Paris...until one day the doorbell rings. Masha goes to the door, and there are two policemen standing there. She's thinking 'what's going on?' Right? She knew she hadn't done anything wrong. The policemen asked her, 'Where's Paul? We need to speak with him'. Masha told them the truth - that he left France ages ago and that she didn't really speak to him anymore. It was at that point that they told her that Paul had stolen the equivalent of what would now be...like...two hundred thousand dollars. Now it's important for you to know that the law in France says that you're liable for your spouse's debts (it did at that time, anyway). So if Masha couldn't turn Paul over to the police, she'd be responsible for all that money! An address can be crucial Fortunately for Masha, she knew exactly where Paul was and she gave the police his address. Paul was found, extradited and put into prison. Best of all for Masha, no-one contested her divorce. Whew! Right? I mean, all I got was a crazy Scientologist, at least I didn't get a felon. So Masha lived happily ever after - at least until I showed up on her doorstep with my bags one day, but that's another story. On to the food! Right, so on to the food portion of our story. Imagine yourself in that situation. You've got policemen at your door who are looking for your felon husband who owes them a LOT of money which YOU would have to pay back if they couldn't find him. What food could you have served to those policemen that would have brought down everyone's stress levels - especially yours? The answer is: raw chocolate! If you've listened to previous episodes, you knew I'd get to the chocolate eventually, right? It didn't take me long. You've got to have chocolate with crazy stories. What's so great about raw chocolate? Raw chocolate, or cacao as it's also called, is great for several things: it's an incredible stress-buster it contains magnesium, which can actually help not only nourish but also relax your muscles it can help with healthy levels of hormones (never a bad thing, right?) it gives us a shot of dopamine Dopamine, by the way, is like an instant pleasure hit. And I don't know about you, but if I saw two policemen at my door asking about my felon husband whom I hadn't known was a felon, I'd much rather be relaxed and give myself a little boost, shall we say, rather than be all stressed out. How do you use raw chocolate? So, how do you eat raw chocolate? Well don't go out and buy some random candy bar. That's NOT the same thing because the sugar and the dairy cancel out any benefit you get from the chocolate. For best results you want to get yourself some unroasted, raw chocolate powder. You can get that on Amazon and a lot of grocery stores have it now too. Then you just tip a spoonful or two into nut milk for example, whizz it up with a couple of dates and presto, a quick chocolate shake! And my personal favorite Now personally my favorite is raw chocolate brownies. And I don't think those policemen would have been able to resist my brownies, whether they were on duty or not. Plus it's the same word in French, you just say 'brownie'. So no vocabulary problems either. If you'd like the recipe for my oh-so-good raw chocolate brownies, you'll find it in my 5-Minute Chocolate Heaven ebook. You'll be able to cover yourself in chocolate if you want to. Have YOU got a story to share? And if you do cover yourself in chocolate, I want to hear about it! If you've got a crazy, true story to share, with or without chocolate (and you'd like to know what food could have saved the day in your situation), I'd love to hear from you! Upon further consideration, I think I disagree with the entire premise of this comic strip. Look at Garfield and Odie in that first panel. Do they look like they are playing to you? I mean sure, they're definitely enjoying themselves, but look at what they're actually doing. They're just vibrating rapidly in place. That's NOT how playing is accomplished. And look at the way those motion lines are positioned! They CLEARLY imply motion along the horizontal axis ONLY, suggesting that Garfield and Odie are in fact just hovering in mid-air, vigorously shaking back and forth at a fantastic frequency. These fuckers aren't playing, they're exhibiting Brownian motion. Frankly this raises more questions than it answers, and I look forward to Jim Davis answering them in tomorrow's strip. Today's strip
