"I chose a field recording, by Erick Ruiz Arellano, about a tunas seller in Zacatecas, Mexico. "I did a bit of digging to discover that Zacatecas is on the historical 'El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro' (aka the Silver Route) – a 2,500km road between Mexico City and San Juan Pueblo (in America) that was used from 1598 to 1882. "As I sought to translate and understand the conversations in this recording, I discovered that a "tunas seller" is someone who sells prickly pears. "Inspired by the repetitive creaking sound that this seller's equipment made as they walked from door to door, coupled with the rich ambience of the original recording, I immediately knew I wanted to use this creaking as the foundation of the track. I subtly sharpened up the timing between each creak and incorporated interesting snippets from the original recording. "The composition features vocal samples from online translation and pronunciation tools, discovered while researching the tunas/prickly pear connection. I also included a playful sample from Baloo's 'Bare Necessities' song from 'The Jungle Book' (1967), where he coincidentally sings about prickly pears. "What began as curiosity about a street vendor's creaking equipment evolved into a composition that celebrates the unexpected connections between modern Mexican street commerce, historical trade routes, and a bit of pop culture." Tunas sellers in Zacatecas reimagined by Tim Ferguson. ——————— This sound is part of the Sonic Heritage project, exploring the sounds of the world's most famous sights. If is a powerful and inspirational poem that will motivate you to keep going even when things seem tough. In this verse-by-verse analysis, we'll explore why this poem is so important and how it can help you overcome any obstacle. If is a must-read if you're looking for a powerful and inspirational poem that will help you stay motivated no matter what. This verse-by-verse analysis will help you understand the symbolism and meaning of this famous poem, and why it's such a valuable tool for finding success. By the time you've finished this video, you're feeling inspired to keep going, then congratulations! You're on the right track. In this video, I'm sharing an inspirational poem entitled "If." This poem will help you to stay motivated and focused, no matter what challenges you face. So if you're feeling down about your progress or the future, take a moment to listen to "If." It may just help you carry on, even when things get tough. Thanks for watching! If is a powerful word. Here's a poem that will remind you why you should keep going, even when the going gets tough. If you're feeling down about your current situation, or if you're feeling like giving up on your dreams, this poem will give you the strength to keep going. It tells the story of a girl who's had her share of trials and tribulations, but she's still standing strong. If you're feeling like quitting, this poem is for you. It'll show you that there's always hope, no matter how difficult the journey may seem at the moment. So read it, share it, and remember that you're not alone. The journey is worth taking. 'If' is perhaps even more relevant today than when Kipling wrote it, as an ethos and a personal philosophy. And that is the reason why I started my podcast on a beautiful inspirational note. Rudyard Kipling's (1865-1936) inspirational poem 'If' first appeared in his collection 'Rewards and Fairies' in 1909. In 1907, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature for his great body of work which included 'The Jungle Book' and his stoic poem 'If'. The poem 'If' is inspirational, motivational, and a set of rules for 'grown-up' living. Kipling's 'If' contains mottos and maxims for life, and the poem is also a blueprint for personal integrity, behavior, and self-development. When you are low, how does the tough get going? What fosters the tough to keep on striving on moving ahead. Zach and Lexi had no idea just how many fictional bears there are, and so today they're digging in like never before! It's the wonderful bears you know and love with fun twists and deeeep rabbit holes along the way.
In the first of the movies for our Disney month we give the 1967 animated classic The Jungle Book a watch. Sing along with the classic songs "The Bare Necessities" and "I wanna be like you".
Brandon and Kenny put aside the events of Election Day and instead focus on something more important: Christopher Walken's performance as King Louie in Jon Favreau's live-action/CGI remake of 'The Jungle Book'. They both talk about why they enjoyed the film, Brandon rattles off some Jungle Book trivia, and finds an interview in which Walken actually makes clear his political leanings. They end by looking forward to watching Walken's segment of "Finding Your Roots", in which he supposedly finds something shocking about one of his grandparents.
Originally broadcast in 2010, here is a classic interview from our 'Barchives' with lauded illustrator/concept artist/storyteller Iain McCaig. McCaig is an inspirational pillar of the fantasy art & illustration community with a career spanning over four decades. He was honored for his efforts with the Spectrum Grand Master award in 2014. He is perhaps best known for his design of the characters Padme Amidala and Darth Maul for the 'Star Wars' film franchise. In addition, McCaig's film credits include work on 'Terminator 2', 'Hook', 'Marvel's The Avengers', 'Interview With The Vampire', 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'The Jungle Book'. Our chat with McCaig was a blast with him revealing his start in illustration, how he came up with the designs for Amidala and Darth Maul and a humorous encounter with famed artist Drew Struzan. And be sure to stay until the end for a revelatory game of 'Either, Or, Choose One, No More' in which Iain actually turns the tables on us(!). This bonus episode continues our re-presentation of classic interviews and roundtables from our previous incarnation as SiDEBAR: The Pop Culture Podcast into our podcast feed. We hope that our listeners, both new and old, will enjoy these vintage back episodes and follow us here for new episodes of Sidebar Forever!

It's another movie orgy this week as we celebrate some of the final arrivals of a long mediocre summer. Kicking off, no less, with Seth Rogan's Sausage Party, which Rob was in no way intoxicated enough to appreciate. Then there's Duncan Jones' surprisingly alright Warcraft adaptation, Disney's continuing efforts to reproduce their animated back catalogue with The Jungle Book and Pete's Dragon and we also revisit Dan Trachtenburg's stunning directorial debut, 10 Cloverfield Lane! Jon Favreau gives us his take on 'The Jungle Book,' and we give you our take on his take. Plus, we try to stop Joe from making a wrestling reference (you can guess how well that goes), we discuss Disney’s straight-to-home-video sequels and Tom sings 'Chaka Khan.' It’s Reel Spoilers 176: 'The Jungle Book.' You’ve been warned. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
If you like the idea of seeing a real boy run around in a fake jungle and stand next to fake animals for two hours, far be it from Andrew and Phil to stop you from seeing this version of 'The Jungle Book.' It is essentially an animated film, but with cold, computer-generated precision; not nearly as warm as the original Disney film. The directing by Jon Favreau is uninspired. Andrew was particularly disappointed in Favreau's inability to stage musical numbers that do justice to the songs. Overall, Andrew and Phil don't recommend this film, but know that many people will see it anyway. "Feeling Cheated and Used": An egg donor relates feeling betrayed after her friend agreed to inform the children they created together of their true maternity, seemingly only to achieve securing her eggs. "The Law of the Jungle?": An observer remarks on the similarities when a scene from Kipling's 'The Jungle Book' are used as an allegory for donor anonymity. "I Have a Sister": A donor-conceived child presents a paradigm of family not solely as one that is chosen, but also one that is comprised of blood relations as genuine kin.

The 1967 animated Disney film "The Jungle Book" — inspired by Rudyard Kipling's book of the same name — springs to life in a new musical that had its world premiere at the Goodman Theater in Chicago. Written and directed by Mary Zimmerman, best known for her stage play based on Ovid's "Metamorphoses," the new show features all the songs from the movie, including the hit tune "The Bare Necessities." The musical stars Akash Chopra as Mowgli and veteran performer Andre de Shields as King Louie. New York Times theater critic Charles Isherwood tells us about its subtle staging, how it ranks among Disney musicals and where it's headed next.
