Thoughts on the episode? Let us know. What can we learn from indigenous knowledge systems about how to navigate and transform our world? My guest, Dr Richard Hodge, points out several aspects of Aboriginal culture that can help us act effectively and with heart and wisdom in a world full of problems. To guide us in a complex world, we need touchstones of value. For many indigenous peoples, that's the function of totems and totemic beings: kangaroo, echidna, wallaby, and so on.Counterintuitively, seeing the world through a totemic perspective offers greater clarity than how we often view it, through the lens of our limited egoic state, entangled with fight-or-flight fancies that superimpose themselves over reality. Our perception colors our interpretation of the world. The Western mindset sees the world as a number of separate objects, ourselves among them. Which means our prime directive is always control and domination of the "other" — whether it be nature, or the weather, or animals, or other people.Shifting to an indigenous way of seeing creates connection and opportunities for collaboration and synergies on a systems-level.And that's the level at which transformational change at scale becomes possible. With that foundation, Dr Hodge shares his Dragonfly Model of systemic, deep change. If you can, watch rather than just listen, because there are diagrams and models that can help you follow the concepts and the conversation.Enjoy our yarning, and please let us know what you think.LinksDrRichardHodge.comThomas Berry, "The Meadow Across the Creek"Stephanie Kelton, economistMariana Mazzucato, economistBertrand Russell, "In Praise of Idleness"Click to subscribe to the Mindset Mastery Memo.Support the Show.

He grew up in Barbados and moved to the United States of America as a young adult. Neville Goddard was perhaps the last century's most intellectually substantive and charismatic purveyor of the philosophy generally called New Thought. He wrote more than ten books under the solitary pen name Neville, and was a popular speaker on metaphysical themes from the late 1930s until his death in 1972.Possessed of a self-educated and uncommonly sharp intellect, Neville espoused a spiritual vision that was bold and total: Everything you see and experience, including other people, is the result of your own thoughts and emotional states. Each of us dreams into existence an infinitude of realities and outcomes. When you realize this, Neville taught, you will discover yourself to be a slumbering branch of the Creator clothed in human form, and at the helm of limitless possibilities.Neville's thought system influenced a wide range of spiritual thinkers and writers, from bestselling author Dr. Joseph Murphy to Rhonda Byrne and Wayne Dyer.He has inspired and continues to inspire millions of readers around the world.RESOURCES:• Learn more about Unlock God Mode »• The Infinite Spirit Guided Meditation » • Join the FREE Reality Creation Tribe » Follow NEVILLE for daily inspiration:• Neville Goddard Newsletter• Neville Goddard Telegram• Neville Goddard Instagram• Neville Goddard Threads• Neville Goddard Twitter• Neville Goddard YouTube• Neville Goddard Course• Neville Goddard Meditation• Neville Goddard CoachingNEVILLE's BOOKS (Free):• Feeling is the Secret by Neville Goddard• Out of this World by Neville Goddard• Freedom for All by Neville Goddard• Fundamentals by Neville GoddardNEVILLE's LECTURES (Free):• Fundamentals• Live the Answer Now• The Pruning Shears of Revision• An Inner Conviction• The First Principle• Brazen Impudence• Believe It InLINKS• Join my bestselling course, Unlock God Mode• Download the FREE manifestation PDF guide• Download the Florence Scovel Shinn meditation• Book a free 1:1 call with me5 Tools to Navigate the Video Game of Life – The 5 Touchstones to Keep You in Daily Balance * * *Neville Goddard was a mystic and writer who explored the power of the mind and whose books left an indelible mark on the world. In Neville's own words:"You cannot serve two masters. Welcome back to another episode of the Money Lighthouse Podcast for Spiritual Entrepreneurs! Recently, a friend shared a delightful story about receiving an unexpected windfall in her business without any marketing or launch efforts. This kind of effortless abundance is always so inspiring to hear about. It's a beautiful reminder of how naturally and easily we can attract what we desire without the constant hustle and grind. In this episode, I want to remind us of three foundational practices for manifesting our desires. These practices are simple yet essential, and in our busy lives, it's easy to forget them. First, it's about relaxing into the process of welcoming more money into your life. Like my friend, who simply indulged in the joy of her experiences without thinking about sales or deadlines, we too can focus on our joy, rest, peace, and satisfaction without expecting anything in return. Second, we need to reconnect with our intentions. Knowing our 'why' gives us direction and helps us align our thoughts and feelings with our goals. Lastly, we must be mindful of our thoughts about money. Instead of focusing on lack, we should immerse ourselves in feelings of abundance and enjoyment. It's also important to remember to treat ourselves with the same care and attention we give to our loved ones. Ask yourself if you are taking care of your needs with as much concern as you do for others. Reflect on how you talk to and encourage yourself—are you as kind and supportive to yourself as you are to those you cherish? By doing so, you might find that not only do you feel better, but you also start seeing positive changes in your life. So, let's shift our focus to what lights us up and brings us joy, and watch how effortlessly abundance flows into our lives. Thank you for joining me today, and I hope these insights help you on your journey to a more abundant and joyful life. Contact: michel@moneylighthouse.com

hi friend!thank you so much for being here today.  please know that throughout today's episode we talk about grief & addiction.last night i was deleting pictures from my google photos account when i found text messages between tim & i.  the texts threw me right back to the pain, the struggles, the anxiety & the struggles that we - as a couple - were experiencing.  suddenly i had this thought "did i do the right thing? did i make the right decisions?"in that moment i had to force myself to put the phone down & remind myself that at the time - back in 2019/2020 - i was making decisions based on the information that i had right then & what i felt was best for both of us -- regardless of what anyone else thought.throughout the episode we discuss this part of the grief journey & the need to have touchstones - aka receipts - to help bring us back to the reality of the situation.what was actually going on at the time?what decisions were necessary for my own mental health?did i do the best that i could?grief brings up so many questions - especially when that grief is tied to addiction - & sometimes you need that reality check.i know that this is a heavy topic, so if at any point you feel overwhelmed, please stop the episode & contact your healthcare provider, or find a therapist at betterhelp, to help support you through this time.as always, thank you for being here & for allowing me to share my experiences & takeaways with you.i'm always here for you. xoxo

[TRANSCRIPT] [click, static] I remembered that Don had family in Massachusetts. His uncle and cousins ran a deli in a town called Winchester—the way that man would talk about the sandwiches they'd make…god, what I wouldn't do for one of them right now.  Anyway, I figured it couldn't hurt to check the place out. He wasn't at the deli—I didn't expect him to be, that would've been quite the fucking coincidence, but I did find exactly what I was hoping for. An address on an old bill. Presumably, his uncle's home address.  It's a few towns over, so I'm headed there now.  [click, static] This area is nice. I haven't spent all that time in Massachusetts, at least outside of Boston and Provincetown. But it's warm and sunny and there's a little humidity creeping into the air and (deep breath), I don't know, it's nice. Despite everything, I'm feeling…hopeful.  It reminds me a little of where I grew up. There are more houses and the houses are closer together—I'm sure there are parts of Massachusetts that are rural, but I am squarely in the suburbs. I don't know, maybe it's just that spring has finally arrived and the changing of the seasons always makes me think of home.  [click, static] Huh. I haven't thought about my childhood home as home in a long time. Home has been nebulous, ever-changing in my mind. But I guess if I've ever had a touchstone, it's the house I grew up in and…New York City. Touchstones of a different kind. But places that my mind always leaps to if I'm confronted with something that reminds me in the slightest of them.  I don't think you can ever really run away from home. That's more or less what I did, but it lingers, always. You can never undo the way that you've been shaped. You can pour new concrete over the broken sidewalk, but the footprints left on the previous layers will always be there, waiting to be revealed when the fresh new coat eventually erodes.  [click, static] (a small laugh) I can hear Harry's voice in my head correcting my metaphor. Making it about paint—where you grow up is the charcoal sketch and no matter how much you paint over a canvas, the layers and textures are always there. But I don't know painting. Not that I know concrete but… That's one of those things I always figured would be the deciding factor in whether or not Harry—I mean, she's sophisticated, you know? I don't know if she can hear this up in Maine—I'm sure she can, but maybe she doesn't have the radio turned on. She'd probably be happy to hear it anyway. That I think of her as sophisticated. But she is. Her secret love for Hank Williams and all. She appreciates fine things, delicate things, beautiful things.  And I'm not any of that. I've always been rough and blunt—the finest thing I do is picking a lock or breaking a safe and even then, sometimes brute force is the best way forward. Harry is a painting, and I'm a block of concrete.  [click, static] God, I hope Don isn't listening to this. He'd never let me live it down.  [click, static]

To quote Patricia Blocksom: “Equality is a robust concept but a fragile reality.” Fortunately lawyers are good at remaining constantly vigilant and feminism is nothing to be afraid of, quite the opposite: by the end of this our second episode on the Touchstones Report, you will be very grateful you have chosen to let these wonderful women, these wonderful feminists, into your life for a while. Thanks for listening, reach out to us anytime at podcasts@cba.org! Touchstones Report Executive Summary:The CBA's Task Force on Gender Equality's groundbreaking 1993 Report titled “Touchstones for Change: Equality, Diversity, and Accountability” addresses a range of issues related to equality and discrimination in the legal profession. It focuses on barriers to entry into the profession, including law school admission policies, access to articling positions, and the articling experience. The Report also highlights the unique challenges faced by women in the legal profession, such as employment opportunities, career advancement, and the lack of accommodation for family responsibilities.  Additionally, the Report explores the dynamics within private practice, government legal departments, and corporate legal departments, including issues of employment equality, career opportunities, and instances of sexual harassment. Further, the Report delves into the challenges faced by faculties of law and administrative tribunals, examining issues such as representation, career advancement, balancing career and family responsibilities, and sexual harassment. It also addresses the judiciary and the need for a fair and diverse appointment process, judicial education, and tackling discrimination within the judiciary.  The practice of family law is discussed in detail, highlighting issues related to representation, career advancement, funding for legal aid, and challenges with the substantive law.  The Report also emphasizes the role of Law Societies and the CBA in promoting equality within the legal profession. It explores the need for non-discrimination, monitoring, disclosure requirements, alternative discipline processes, and the importance of implementing the Task Force's recommendations. Finally, it touches upon the need for gender equality in substantive law and procedure, examining areas such as family law, intellectual property law, criminal justice, and pensions and benefits. Overall, the Touchstones for Change Report provides a comprehensive overview of the challenges and areas requiring improvement in achieving equality and addressing discrimination within the legal profession in Canada. Reviewing the Summary below, one will see that many of these recommendations have been achieved; however, there is still much to be done to make them all a reality. Summary of Recommendations Chapter Two addresses barriers to entry into the legal profession and recommends a range of measures, including consultation mechanisms between law schools and law societies, outreach programs to promote diversity in the profession, education equity initiatives, affirmative action recruitment in law schools, admissions policy improvements, support for part-time studies, child care services on campus, increased funding for scholarships, gender-inclusive language and sensitivity in classrooms, curriculum reforms, potential Indigenous law school, appointment of Equity Officers and establishment of safe spaces in law schools, combating harassment and bias, and inclusion of gender-related courses in the Bar Admission program. Chapter Five addresses issues within law firm and recommends adopting interview guidelines, implementing employment equity programs, monitoring hiring processes, tracking internal referrals to detect systemic discrimination, supporting female lawyers facing client discrimination, banning sexist activities in client promotion, reviewing promotion practices, establishing mentoring programs for women lawyers, evaluating partnership decision-making processes to eliminate bias, reporting demographic information and retention rates to law societies, establishing parental leave policies, offering child care support, implementing policies to address sexual harassment, promoting workplace equity, conducting educational initiatives and collaborating with relevant organizations to implement and finance these initiatives. In Chapter Six, the Task Force presents recommendations to address gender equality issues within Government Legal Departments, including ensuring fair allocation of work and gender balance on committees, ensuring representation of minority women in the public service and gender equality in management and promotion processes, endorsing membership in professional associations, reviewing recruitment procedures, providing mechanisms for reviewing discretionary decisions related to family responsibilities, accommodating family responsibilities without hindering career advancement, providing anti-discrimination training, establishing advisory committees on gender issues and equal opportunities, and referring legal work to law firms with inclusive employment equity programs. Chapter Seven of the Report recommends that corporate legal departments actively promote employment equity by hiring women from minority groups, referring legal work to law firms with strong employment equity programs that include representation of all women, establishing a Subcommittee on Gender Issues within the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (CCCA) to develop strategies and monitor progress, and utilizing the CCCA as a resource for corporate policies on parental leave, flexible work arrangements, and programs addressing sexual harassment. Chapter Eight suggests that law schools should prioritize recruiting faculty members from minority groups, regularly review recruitment practices for gender parity and minority representation, ensure affirmative action recruits are recognized as fully qualified, promote women's representation in committees and leadership roles, adopt workplace equity policies, consider women and minority faculty for dean appointments, eliminate gender-based salary differences, address salary inequities, provide reduced teaching loads and sabbaticals, and develop materials and seminars to address gender and minority challenges in teaching, with the Canadian Council of Law Deans playing a supportive role. Chapter Nine advises governments to actively recruit women and under-represented groups for administrative tribunal positions, establish a re-appointment protocol without term limits, consider tribunal lawyers for other government and senior civil service roles, view tribunal experience as valuable for judicial appointments, review adjudicators' salary levels for potential discrimination, and encourage administrative tribunals to implement flexibility policies and suspend appointments during maternity and parental leave. Chapter Ten proposes that the CBA create objective criteria for judicial appointments and establish committees for their development, and advocate for an affirmative action policy to appoint women and minority women, while also addressing discrimination in the appointments process; it recommends mandatory sensitivity courses for judges, fair workload allocation for women judges, and the creation of a Commission on Judicial Conduct with public hearings and equal representation of judges, lawyers, and the public. In Chapter Eleven, the Task Force recommends increasing the emphasis on family law in legal education, improving its status within the legal profession, supporting family law practitioners, and ensuring sufficient funding and judicial resources for family law cases at both federal and provincial levels. In Chapter Twelve, the Task Force recommends that law societies prioritize diversity and enforce non-discrimination rules. The Task Force also suggests establishing internal procedures within law firms to handle gender discrimination complaints and appointing "safe counsel" to investigate such complaints. Additionally, they propose monitoring the progress of women and minority groups within firms, ensuring compliance with human rights legislation, and developing educational initiatives to eliminate discrimination and promote equality. Law societies are also urged to gather statistics on the representation of minorities and conduct studies on racism in the profession. In Chapter Thirteen of the Report, the Task Force recommends that the CBA amend its constitution and mission statement to address discrimination, conduct an inquiry into racism, promote accessibility and inclusion, gather statistics on underrepresented groups, establish committees, support lawyers with family responsibilities, advocate for gender equality, and adopt gender-inclusive language policies. Lastly, the Task Force recommends in Chapter Fourteen that the CBA offer legal education programs on gender bias, develop a national strategy to eliminate gender bias in the justice system, advocate for access to justice measures for women, establish gender issues sub-committees, consult the National Equality Committee on law reform initiatives, and review submissions to address gender-related issues.touchstonesForChange.pdf (cba.org)

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the release of the CBA report, Touchstones for Change, Equality, Diversity and Accountability, we listen in on a kitchen table discussion between 3 of the original task force members, Daphne Dumont, Patricia Blocksom, and Sophie Bourque, and the lead author of the report, Melina Buckley. We get the historical context, where the original authors were, and what the world was like thirty years ago when they began their work on the Touchstones Report, or as they would phrase it, when they joined the Task Force. We learn of the enormity of their undertaking, and the significance of the phrase task force, i.e. the need for clear goals and collective, sustained, effort. We hear about how the Touchstones Report was initially received by the legal profession, a notoriously tough audience to be sure, and how the CBA led the way by very publicly implementing the report's recommendations. We also learn a lot about the continued history of feminism, the difference between tokenism and real change, and that there is still a long way to go.Implementation. Led by Bertha Wilson, the Touchstones task force knew that the writing of the report including the research and recommendations was only the beginning. To engineer real societal change, what would happen as a result of the task force's findings would be essential, as would the CBA. The real story of the Touchstones Report is about the self-reflection and willingness to embrace change on the part of the members the legal profession in the face of, well, the evidence. The CBA not only advocated for change, but it also actually changed itself and continues to do so. We feel that it is fair to say that the Touchstones Report changed the way the legal profession looks at equality and helped us to understand the need for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the profession and how the profession can, does, and should, provide leadership on exactly these areas of human co-existence.“It is a wise man who said that there is no greater inequality than the equal treatment of unequals.”-Frankfurter J., quoted by Bertha Wilson in her Introduction from the Chair, CBA Touchstones for Change.touchstonesForChange.pdf (cba.org)

It is incredibly common in this day and age to be rewarded for continuously putting out effort. There are countless social media influencers suggesting that what we should be doing is nonstop effort at all times. In fact, many would suggest that, by not constantly putting out content or effort, we are running the risk of losing our audience, or our focus and will to succeed. In this episode I challenge that notion by suggesting that sometimes, as humans, the best thing that we can do for ourselves moving forward is to take a break. Taking a break does not mean you are weak. In fact, it means quite the opposite, in my opinion. Taking a break means that you are in touch with yourself enough to recognize that your consistent effort has turned negative and that your output is no longer helping you succeed. Taking a break means that you understand that in order to succeed in the long term, you must pace yourself. Now this is very hard for me and I'm sure it's hard for many of you. How many of us growing up were commended for our hard work? In fact Hardwork is the hallmark of what makes someone good at what they do typically. And I am in no way suggesting that hard work is not the way to get where you want to go. I believe that hard work is the key component that gets us from point A to point B. However, in this episode, I am merely suggesting that in order to continuously put our best effort out there, sometimes we need to take a break and go within. Recently I took a little break from the podcast to rejuvenate myself and it was the best thing I could've done. I was tired, overworked, and wasn't really appreciating the stuff that I was creating. Those are all touchstones for me that help me realize that what I need more than anything is downtime. I hope that you all can relate to and appreciate today's episode. Please feel free to reach out to me to talk about this concept. I'd love to talk with more of you about mental health in the trades and how it is our own responsibilities to maintain our mental sharpness and flexibility.
