Using Gratitude To Identify Major Gift Donors

First Day Podcast

In this episode of the First Day Podcast, host Bill Stanczykiewicz, Ed.D. is joined by Chad Goble, MBA, a renowned fundraising consultant, about a novel approach to identifying major gift donors, particularly within healthcare organizations. Goble, who has over 30 years of experience in philanthropy, discusses the importance of shifting the focus from traditional wealth-based identification methods to a more nuanced approach that combines wealth with gratitude. He emphasizes that while wealth might determine how much a donor can give, gratitude is a powerful driver in the decision to give in the first place, especially within healthcare settings where patients and families often feel thankful for the care received. Goble introduces a cutting-edge tool his firm has developed, which utilizes artificial intelligence and machine learning to predict which patients or families are most likely to give, based on a “gratitude score.” This tool assesses about 2,000 data points, including factors like the distance traveled for care, the length of stay, and the intensity of the care received. The model, which has proven to be three times more effective than traditional wealth screening methods, allows organizations to better allocate resources and identify the best prospects for major gifts. The conversation also touches on how this gratitude-based approach can be applied beyond healthcare to other nonprofit sectors. Goble suggests that organizations should first evaluate the role of gratitude in their relationships with constituents and then determine how to measure and score that gratitude. This approach could be especially beneficial for sectors like animal welfare, where the emotional bonds formed through services provided could translate into significant donor potential. Stanczykiewicz connects the concept of gratitude to broader fundraising principles, such as linkage, interest, and ability, as taught at The Fund Raising School. He and Goble agree that gratitude could be a key element in donor involvement and advocacy, enhancing the overall effectiveness of fundraising strategies. The episode underscores the importance of emotional intelligence and empathy in fundraising, aligning with the School's philosophy of viewing these as “strong skills” rather than “soft skills.”

Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Ronesh Sinha. He is the author of The South Asian Health Solution and is an internal medicine physician and expert on insulin resistance and corporate wellness.  His groundbreaking work in reversing diabetes and insulin resistance in diverse populations has been featured on the front cover of Fortune magazine and the LA times. He is a top-rated speaker for companies like Google, Oracle, Cisco, and more (read testimonials). He serves as Chief Medical Officer for Silicon Valley Employer Forum where he helps shape global health benefits for more than 55 major tech companies.  In this episode, Dr. Ronesh Sinha discusses why the standard cholesterol risk calculator doesn't tell you everything you need to know. Instead, you should ask for advanced lipid testing; Dr. Sinha explains the importance of having this advanced lipid profile, and he touches on the nuances of cholesterol. Then, Dr. Sinha dives into emotional metabolism and describes how stress can be worse for your glucose levels than chocolate cake. Tune in as we chat about heart rate variability, the relationship between intermittent fasting and strength training, and how to sneak more protein into your diet.  This episode originally aired in November 2022. / / E P I S O D E   S P ON S O R S  PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. Luckily, there are modified calculators that individuals use worldwide, and some incorporate triglycerides.  Risk calculators need to integrate insulin resistance.  The standard guidelines and tools we use in America have a long way to go.  [12:50] The Reason You Should Ask For Advanced Lipid Testing  Lipoprotein is a boat that carries cholesterol. There are two different boats: Type A and Type B.  Type B is the bad boat.  An abundance of smaller particles causes more damage.  When looking at a standard profile, you're not going to get the clarity to know how many Type A vs. Type B you have.  You can only know how many Type A vs. Type B you have by getting an advanced lipid profile. [20:45] Emotional Metabolism: Stress Is Worse Than Chocolate Cake   What is the emotional impact of your behaviors and thoughts on glucose control? Everyone knows that stress is not good for you. However, you can track your emotional status and measure glucose against it.  Even if you have zero grams of carbs, stress can increase your glucose levels. Early signs of stress will flood the liver with glucose.  It's time to do meaningful things to mitigate your stress levels.   [24:45] Using Gratitude and Mindful Breathing Throughout A Stressful Day  How do you use gratitude on the spot after a stressful event? Many people practice gratitude and journaling in the morning.  However, your mind can go into utter chaos when you deal with things throughout the day. Moments of gratitude throughout the day will be essential. Also, be mindful of your breathing patterns during the day.  Mindful breathing will vastly improve your blood pressure and blood glucose.  [30:10] The Relationship Between Heart Rate Variability To Parasympathetic Effect  Heart rate variability is our most readily accessible metric for parasympathetic activity.  Variety is the spice of life; you also want variety in your heartbeat.  When you have variation, it's a sign that your parasympathetic system is more active.  Remind yourself to practice mindfulness throughout the day to improve your parasympathetic system.  [38:10] When Intermittent Fasting, You Need To Practice Strength Training  Fasting is therapeutic; if it is misused, it can have adverse side effects.  Identify the timing of your fast that works for you. Make sure you're getting adequate protein during your eating window.  Most people that are fasting are doing minimal amounts of exercise. Unfortunately, when you aren't exercising, you may be losing muscle.  If you're not in a strength training program and aren't getting enough protein, you shouldn't be fasting.  [42:30] Eating Protein Early In The Day To Improve Glucose and Overall Mood  Just to keep it simple, you need about a gram of protein per pound of ideal body weight.  Distribute protein throughout the day.  Also, make sure to activate mTOR toward that first meal.  With proper protein intake, your glucose levels will be much more stable.  Eat more protein with your first meal and see how you feel.  [48:20] Three Things To Consider Regarding Your Health: Carbs, Cooking Oils, and Circadian Rhythm  The 3 C's: Carbs Cooking Oils Circadian Rhythm If you're a sedentary person, it's best to watch your carb intake. The food industry has caught on to low-carb eating. However, they are using terrible oils that are highly inflammatory. Be sure you are not consuming foods using the wrong types of oils.  Lastly, meal timing and bed timing can have a powerful impact on glucose control.  AND MUCH MORE! Gratitude can be a powerful tool for helping people recover from gambling addiction. When we focus on the things we are grateful for, it can shift our perspective from what we lack to what we have. This can help us to feel more positive and hopeful, which can make it easier to resist the urge to gamble. There are many ways to practice gratitude. One simple way is to start each day by making a list of three things you are grateful for. It could be anything from your health and well-being to your loved ones to a beautiful sunrise. You can also keep a gratitude journal, where you write down more detailed entries about the things you are grateful for. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedailygrateful/message

4 Secrets to Mastering Keto Masterclass. Resources from this episode:  Check out Dr. Ron's Website: https://www.culturalhealthsolutions.com/ The Meta Health Podcast: https://www.culturalhealthsolutions.com/podcast/ Follow Dr. Ron Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SouthAsianSolution YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCecKfsl3Qo-hCrOb-96ueTQ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/roneshsinhamd/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/roneshsinha/ Join the Keto Kamp Academy: https://ketokampacademy.com/7-day-trial-a Watch Keto Kamp on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUh_MOM621MvpW_HLtfkLyQ 4 Secrets to Mastering Keto Masterclass. Today's interview is with Tom Schimmer, author of the bestselling book, Grading from the Inside Out, and an expert in assessment, grading, RTI, and educational leadership.  Through this episode, Tom draws attention to ways assessment can boost our student's confidence and love for math, including how to assess math the way coaches assess their athletes.  Allison and Tom discuss:  How Tom's teachers played vital roles in nurturing his love for math. [1.56] What good assessment practices look like [7.00] How to make room for learning from mistakes in a math class [9.14] Why and how to avoid redundancy in math tests [15.44] Assessment planning [20.29] Tom's books on instruction and assessment [22.57] Quality over counting: Situations where equal marks do not equate to equal understanding [24.34] Quotes Find a way to use evidence (outcomes of assessment) to advance learning as opposed to just judge learning. ‘What's the score during warmup?' ‘The score is 00. The game hasn't started.'  ‘Okay. Why did you sweat in practice? Why didn't you die for a loose ball? Why didn't you do all of that? You clearly didn't get anything? Because it's to start the game, the game is 00.  ‘Well, it prepared me to play better, right?  Be prepared to demonstrate math proficiency without practicing math proficiency, even though you're not harvesting anything, you're not gaining anything, you're looking at this idea that this is going to improve my math skill.  Percentage system is not all it's cracked up to be when it comes to grading. Every moment of practice the coaches assess their athletes, they're not grading their athletes, but they're looking at what their athletes are doing. So if we taught like we coached in the sense that we do very little quantification. We would have an assessment system or an assessment experience for our students that would be most beneficial to them reaching proficiency with the learning goals.
