In the United States we just celebrated the 4th of July and then the Women's World Cup happened. Which, for people from the U.S., reignited the concept once again about what patriotism looks like in response to the U.S. Women's Team. This episode we discuss the differences between patriotism and nationalism, other patriotic women, and how the U.S. Women's Soccer Team is the most patriotic thing we've seen in awhile. Business Insider reported that women earn 80.7 cents for every dollar that her male counterpart earns. Statistics also show that college educated females now outnumber males in the work force, but are still not fairly compensated. Tiffany and Ashley have firsthand experience with this, and this is an important dialogue for us to have. We want to see women advance, not at the expense of men, but because equal pay for equal work should be our baseline. Recently, Luna Bar, having fallen in love with the US Women's Soccer Team, like the rest of us, decided to close a pay gap. For their team bonuses, the USWNT was short a little more than 31,000 per person, and Luna Bar gifted that amount to every single player on the Women's Team! So basically, we shall be eating the Luna bars until Jesus comes home, to show our full support of this female empowering company! From negotiating pay, to bonuses, to work load versus wages, women often get the short end of the stick. There's hope for change, and we can see it over the decades, through the voices of women and men who want to continue to close the pay gap. Twice in the space of seven days we've seen record attendances for a woman's league match in Europe. A crowd of 61 thousand turned out for the Atletico Madrid and Barcelona game. And history was also made in Italy where more than 39 thousand spectators watched Juventus women against Fiorentina. It is a different story altogether here in Turkey, where the country's football passion isn't quite reflected in the women's game. But there's one team in the south. Samantha Johnson travelled to Hakkari and spent some time with a team in the top flight of women' football, hoping to tackle perceptions both on and off the pitch. #WomensFootball #WomenFootball #WomenSoccer

In this latest episode the girls discuss the results of the Men's and Women's Team play at the Olympics and what happened to Team Canada!? And will these results cause possible system changes in the future of the Canadian Trial system. They also discuss is it worth it to chase the Olympic dream these days with all the pressure that is put on the athletes. Congratulations to all the podium finishers, Sweden, Korea and Japan for the women and USA, Sweden and Switzerland for the men. How important are these Olympic curling medals to the other countries and what impact will it make to the growth of the game and the future of curling. Of course, the feel good stories are always a favourite but there's also the news of the OAR Team getting stripped of their bronze medals in Mixed Doubles. Finally, are the commentators too harsh when it comes to commentating and questioning the curlers? Enjoy!

On the newest episode of TCS, Matt & Rob are in studio together for the first time in 2018 covering a few things they have missed in the last week or two. Up first, the Canadian Soccer Association made some surprising changes in terms of firing their National Men's Team Head Coach and replacing him with ... their National Women's Team Head Coach. Is there some funny business here? Was it the right move to make? And how messed up is it that in 2018 being moved from a 5th place Women's Team to a 94th place Men's Team is still considered a promotion? Later on, the Captain of the Swedish World Juniors team pitched his silver medal in to the crowd following the championship game. Is it something he's likely to regret later? Or is it something that the people calling him a warrior who hates to lose are more on track with? Or, maybe, is it an emotional 19 year old kid doing something that he probably doesn't regret but probably wishes wasn't on TV? After giving some other thoughts on the World Juniors, the guys also talk about the Canadian Olympic Men's Hockey team and some of the more interesting selections. And is it possible that the fact that NHL'ers aren't going might actually make the tournament more interesting? All this and tons more on TCS195.
