Democrats took some wins yesterday in key elections around the country. Notably, voters approved an Ohio ballot measure to lock abortion rights into the state constitution. It looks like they've legalized recreational marijuana too. Kentucky voters are keeping Democratic Governor Andy Beshear and Democrats collected seats in the Virginia legislature. Republicans did win in Mississippi, where Governor Tate Reeves will stay on. Is that an indicator of where the 2024 Presidential election is headed? We will talk to John Rothmann about it. Sam Bankman-Fried, the former CEO of FTX is facing 115 years in prison when he's sentenced in March. He was convicted of all seven counts against him in a fraud trial. Does this send a message to the cryptocurrency industry or is this basic fraud that could have happened in any sector? Michael Hiltzik with the LA Times will unravel it. This week we're closely following the conversations that took place at the Women Deliver conference in Kigali, Rwanda, which brought together thousands of people from diverse fields to help elevate women's voices and accelerate the drive toward achieving gender equality. We also delve into whether hosting conferences and headquartering development organizations in the global south is an effective tool to drive the localization agenda, and we touch on the https://www.devex.com/organizations/world-health-organization-who-30562's postponement of its plan to require staff to rotate to different duty stations every several years. To dig into these topics and get the latest on our coverage of Women Deliver, for episode nine of the This Week in Global Development podcast series I talk to Devex Senior Reporter Sara Jerving and Larry Cooley, president emeritus and senior adviser at Management Systems International. https://www.devex.com/account/newsletters to the Devex Newswire and our other newsletters.
For 4 days, from between 17- 20 July, Rwanda's capital will welcome thousands of guests from around the world who've come to attend the Women Deliver 2023 Conference. With its slogan ‘Where the world comes together to advance Gender Equality' the Women Deliver conference will host the great and the good of the global gender equality movement. Choosing Rwanda as the host nation was, in my opinion, an easy decision. Not only did it have the capacity to host the event due to its investment in the MICE industry, the country itself was at the forefront of the gender equality conversation. Rwanda's leadership made the strategic decision to turn its back on its misogynistic past and place equal rights for all its citizens, regardless of sex, at the heart of its governance model. Because of that decision, today women are at the forefront of everything that is Rwanda. They are in the security services, they are in the halls of parliament and they are well represented in the private sector. The success that Rwanda is enjoying in the journey towards gender equality is not a fluke. It all started with overturning laws that were discriminatory and replacing them with better ones. To help us understand just where Rwanda came from, legally speaking, to where it is today when it comes to the legal protections that women enjoy, I am joined by Dr Usta Kaitesi. A PhD in law, Dr. Usta is the CEO of the Rwanda Goverance Board and a commissioner in the Rwanda Law Reform Commission. She was formerly a law professor in the National University. If you want to share your thoughts on the topics I discuss use the hashtag #LongFormRw on Twitter and follow us on Twitter and Instagram on our handle @TheLongFormRwBe a part of the conversation.

During the COVID-19 pandemic women health care leaders stood out. Jurisdictions with women as elected leaders or top public health policy experts seemed to manage the challenges of the pandemic a bit better, and with a bit more public trust. Well before the pandemic, in parts of rural India communities that train Dalit women as community health workers often experienced dramatic improvements in health outcomes, all the while challenging rigid gender norms. We know that gender equity in health delivery, policy and management only brings better outcomes. Yet, the glass ceiling remains, and is seemingly reinforced. In countries where more than half the medical students are women, the majority of specialists remain men. In other countries women who enter the health professions as nurses stay planted as such while men ascend to leadership roles. For Ann Keeling this needs to change. Listen to this episode of GDP where she discusses why we'd all benefit from taking gender equity seriously in global health. Ann Keeling is Women in Global Health's Senior Fellow, is a British citizen whose 40-year career in global health and social development has included posts in Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, the Caribbean, Belgium, the USA, and her home country, the UK. She held the post of Head of Gender Equality Policy with the UK Government and is currently the Chair of the NGO Age International and Senior Fellow of Women in Global Health. Ann Keeling has been CEO of two global health NGOs, was UNFPA Country Representative Pakistan, and Director Commonwealth Secretariat leading on Health, Education, and Gender. Between 2008 and 2012 she was Chief Executive Officer of the International Diabetes Federation, founded the NCD (Non-Communicable Diseases) Alliance, and as Chair, led the successful campaign for the 2011 UN High-Level Summit on NCDs. Ann Keeling spent 9 years in Pakistan with the British Council, DFID, and UNDP working on human development and women's rights. She also held senior posts with the Governments of Papua New Guinea and Pakistan. She studied at Oxford University UK, Ann Arbor University USA, and in 1981, at the People's University in Beijing, China. Follow Dr. Bob on Twitter: @ProfessorHuish

They have organized and campaigned to demand concrete and ambitious action from world leaders, and they have successfully put the climate emergency at the center of the global political agenda. We're in climate crisis – and marginalized women, girls, and gender-diverse people bear the brunt. Young climate justice leaders are ringing the alarm. It's about time we listen. In a sense, climate change and global warming hurts everyone. But we're not all equally impacted. Some people have more resources to deal with fallout. Some of us are more or less protected from consequences of growing carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas, emissions and the burning of fossil fuel, sea-level rise, methane, and more. It's a matter of power. The solution lies not only in mitigation and renewable energy. We need climate justice. This is where gender justice comes in: the most vulnerable women, girls, and Two Spirit, trans and non-binary people experience the worst outcomes in climate crisis. And their leadership in climate solutions is more important than ever. Young feminists are strong voices for the intertwined goal of climate justice and gender justice. We can't have one without the other. Our guest Sydney Piggott (she/her) is a social impact leader and advocate for gender equity, climate action, and social justice on a global scale. She's been a subject matter expert in several international forums including the Commission on the Status of Women, Women Deliver, Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference for Young Parliamentarians, and RightsCon. Passionate about supporting young changemakers, Sydney has worked with several youth initiatives focused on gender and climate justice including the Ontario Council for International Cooperation's Youth Policy-Maker's Hub, Apathy is Boring's RISE program, Community Knowledge Exchange's Cohort X, and the Online Thinkathon Challenge in partnership with the European Union. She is also a contributor at Btchcoin News and a member of the Equal Futures Network Advisory Committee. Sydney brings an intersectional feminist lens to all of her work, informed by her proud Afro-Caribbean heritage. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in Vancouver Monday afternoon to help kick off the official opening of the Women Deliver 2019 global conference, a four-day summit described as "the world's largest conference on gender equality and the health, rights, and well-being of girls and women."Trudeau was introduced by Katja Iversen, president of Women Deliver, as a "fellow feminist.""Progress can backslide. We're seeing it happen. Gender equality is under attack. I can only imagine how hard it is to be a feminist on the front-lines," Trudeau said.Trudeau, who describes himself as a feminist, formed Canada's 1st gender balanced cabinet in 2015. He's recently had to defend those credentials after ejecting Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott from the Liberal caucus amid turmoil over the government's handling of the SNC-Lavalin case.As he addressed the crowd on Monday, Trudeau talked about the role of social media in spreading "abhorrent" views and pushing them into the public arena."Individuals and interest groups are trying to roll back women's rights, and politicians are giving into the pressure, shamefully campaigning to undo women's hard won victories," he said. « L'amour s'adresse à notre part d'inconnu, explique le psychanalyste Patrick Lambouley.☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆https://linktr.ee/jacksonlibon---------------------------------------------------#facebook #instagram #amour #couple #couplegoals #famille #relation #doudou #youtube #twitter #tiktok #love #reeĺs #shorts #instagood #follow #like #ouy #oyu #babyshark #lilnasx #girl #happybirthday #movie #olive #garden #menu #deviance #autotrader #trading #khan #academy #carter #carguru #ancestry #accords #abc #news #bts #cbs #huru bluebook #socialmedia #whatsapp #music #google #photography #memes #marketing #india #followforfollowback #likeforlikes #a #insta #fashion #k #trending #digitalmarketing #covid #o #snapchat #socialmediamarketing #bhfyp
He's recently had to defend those credentials after ejecting Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott from the Liberal caucus amid turmoil over the government's handling of the SNC-Lavalin case.L'amour est un mystère pour ceux qui le vivent, un mystère pour ceux qui le regardent. Covid-19 is moving from a pandemic to an endemic disease. The virus will be with us for a long time to come, maybe forever. Dr. David Nabarro, special envoy of the World Health Organization, says we need to prepare for this with strong leadership - both local and global. Global GoalsCast attends Dr. Nabarro's latest briefing where he introduces us to health workers who have made a real difference controlling the virus and supporting those struck down by it in their local community. These include a nurse-run campaign to isolate and vaccinate in Nepal to a program in the United Kingdom to assist long-Covid sufferers. “The sort of leadership that's needed is leadership that connects,” John Atkinson, a specialist in systems change, tells Dr. Nabarro. “Leadership that doesn't seek credit for itself. Leadership that knows there's no limit to what you can achieve if you don't give a damn who takes the credit.” Invisible leadership, Dr. Nabarro calls this. Globally, Nabarro calls for a new approach from rich countries. “it's ok to lead for the world,” he tells the leaders of the G7 countries, explaining that protecting just their own constituents won't work. He argues that rich countries should stop holding vaccines for booster doses when poor countries still need first doses. Protecting the vulnerable everywhere is the only sensible strategy while vaccine is scare. “You are actually serving your constituents better if you lead for the world.” Global GoalsCast is co-hosted by Edie Lush and Claudia Romo Edelman. Other guests on this episode include: Durga Sapkota, a nurse in Katmandu who continues to organize a community public health response to combat Covid-19 in Nepal. She is an ambassador for Women Deliver, a Global GoalsCast partner. Clare Rayner, a specialist occupational health physician and honorary lecturer at the University of Manchester Medical School Iman Ahmed, a Global Public Health expert currently working vaccinating the Sudanese diaspora in Canada. Nazeem, a singer-songwriter from The Gambia. This episode is brought to you by our listeners. Thanks also to CBS News Digital and Universal Production Music.

We speak with Richard Wainwright - a lifelong environmental activist who works with fern.org, an NGO dedicated to protecting forests and those who depend on them. He is joined by his daughter Olivia Wainwright, a fifteen year old environmental activist who works with a fabulous organization called Women Deliver. We are struck how the climate crisis has become a back burner issue due to the pandemic that has consumed the news cycle. We wanted to get back to the most important issue affecting human beings, something we cannot forget amidst all of this. Richard's experience during the pandemic and how it has affected his work speaks volumes - yet he is also aware of the impact of less plane travel and how speaking from our homes and moving about less has been positive environmentally if not in direct policy. Olivia speaks for her generation and how her entire life has been tempered by climate crisis and how that uncertainty for her future fuels the way she looks at the world. We cover the influence of politicians who don't represent the diversity of their country nor the diversity of the world continue to lead us in direction that benefits them and their ilk and leaves the rest of us behind. A fabulous discussion with the old guard of environmental activism and the youth movement and energy that must save themselves and this planet amidst mistakes of the past.
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Francisca experienced inequality from birth. She had experienced all types of harassment and discrimination that are considered a norm for the culture and society that she lived in. Growing up, she had been a sibling with the lesser share, a molested student and employee, and a wife in a toxic marriage struggling to raise her child. Having endured this reality, Francisca started to understand the root cause of this inequality and began a lifelong commitment to taking a stand and speaking up against gender inequality. Francisca believes in Maternal Power, the sacred bond created when a child begins its journey in its mother's body, intricately bound by a connection even stronger than the umbilical cord. She is convinced that the untapped potential of maternal power is a transformational force in the struggle for gender equality. In her first published book, Mother, Behold Thy Son, Francisca shares her most personal experiences to show how mothers can use storytelling — coupled with their innate maternal power — to not just help their sons to reject toxic masculinity, but also to model how their daughters can become true equals. In this conversation, Francisca talks about how we are all victims of the same system -- a system in our culture and society that propagates generational inequality -- and how important it is for us to be aware of it, and ultimately work to change it. Francisca also talks about the role of music in her advocacy for change. She plays the Mbira and speaks highly of its therapeutic quality and how her children taught her to play it.They produced a twelve track album with her three children where they sing songs that are meant to transform undesired social, economic, and political realities. Aside from publishing her book, Francisca is a double winner of the Nunavut Iqaluit Status of Women Gender Equality Competition held in 2015. She was recognized as one of 57 mobilizers for gender equality and represented Canada at the Women Deliver 2019 Vancouver Conference. Mother Behold Thy Son is available internationally on Amazon.
