I had an epiphany while listening to this episode. There is no villain in Karl's story. He hasn't had to overcome any massive tragedy, or Phoenix rising from the ashes. In fact it's an unremarkable success. But a great story nevertheless.Karl's story is about his progress from taking over the family business; creating a business that reflected his values and purpose; building a culture that allowed him to be in control and let go of managing; and finally having the time and money to pursue another passion. The conversation with Karl reinforced what I have been espousing to anyone who will listen that it is possible to create a business that is independent of your daily involvement. That way your business is more valuable and you get to do the things you love.Intellectually you would know this. But it's the emotional connection to your business that holds you back and the lack of a North Star to draw you towards a purpose. There are some gems in Karl's story.Karl Schwantes Managing Director, Xennox Diamonds / My 5 Star ReviewsLinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/karlschwantes/Web Site www.xennoxdiamonds.com.auOffer www.xennoxdiamonds.com.au Mobile +610403623030Email karl@my5starreviews.com.au Stephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here The Scale to Success System Stephen Sandor LinkedInInspiring Business LinkedIn Inspiring Business Facebook

Francois mentioned Bob Proctor going into a bar and announcing he was never coming back.I had a similar experience in PNG when I realised that the men sitting at the bar talking about the ‘good old day's' were just stuck and it wasn't who I wanted to be associated with.So the message is to surround yourself with good people. Don't be afraid to ask for help, and approach life with a “How can I serve and add value first” attitude and in return you'll be rewarded. If you're an individual looking for peak performance then please reach out to Francois. As you can tell Damian has a very positive attitude towards business and lifeThere are a few lessons that I think we could take away from this conversation. The first is that going back to basics is a mistake. What worked years ago may not work today. Although we didn't discuss this a lot of what Damian spoke of was first principles. You can be experienced and not confident, and not experienced and confident and it's knowing the difference. There is obviously risks when acting with confidence and no experience, but if you don't experiment you'll never learn. One area that Damian speak to a lot is profit. Clearly if a business is not making a profit, then it cannot survive. I've never met a successful business person who doesn't understand their numbers. Finally, Damian mentioned being an Employer of Choice, and this is something he and I believe is a necessary position to be in over the coming years to have a competative position in the market. The final area, and it might be the most important one, is generosity. Damien has a very giving nature my interaction with him have always been positive he's always being generous with his time and thoughts and advice and he's helped a number of people who I've introduced him to in the philanthropic area so I have first hand knowledge of his generosity.CEO, Damian AndrewsDamian Andrews LinkedIn Damian Andrews Web Site Shair.care Email dandrews@damianandrews.comStephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here - The Scale to Success Solution- Stephen Sandor LinkedInInspiring Business LinkedInInspiring Business Facebook

It's interesting that regardless of the times and the business environment, regardless of the financial, political or societal position, people are a constant. In today's world we talk about Psychological Safety, in the 80's and 90's it was Emotional Intelligence and before that it was Management Theory. So as business evolves so does the development of people and one could argue that the way we lead business is conforming with how we see society and that business is a large part of how we see society. It's a chicken and egg conversation. So it's no surprise to me that the concept of an Employer of Choice is starting to become a term used for aspirational businesses. It's becoming recognised as a way to be ahead of the pack, to gain an advantage over the competition by being unique.I don't believe it has yet caught on with the majority and there in lies the opportunity. The majority of businesses are not yet prepared to take that massive leap forward, but for progressive and more nimble businesses, this is the opportunity to become a leader in their industry.Clifford Morgan speaks to this subjectClifford Morgan Director, Lumian ConsultingClifford Morgan LinkedIn LinkedIn Business Page Lumian Consulting Web Site Contact Clifford Morgan   Mobile +610412234182Email Stephen Sandor CEO of Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business websiteBook an Exploration Call here The Scale to Success SystemStephen Sandor LinkedInInspiring Business LinkedInInspiring Business Facebook

Every asset is eventually sold (or transferred in an Estate) and your business is typically a major part of your asset portfolio. So it therefore makes sense to have a mindset to treat your business just like any other asset. What's its purpose and why are you doing what you do?That's not an uncommon approach from Management Consultants but it's a very different approach to what you'd expect to find from a Business Broker. But as you'll hear, Simon Bedard's financial management background makes perfect sense that he thinks this way.Simon has over 20 years experience in the in the finance, energy and technology sectors and having worked as an investment banker in Institutional Banking and Global Markets, and holds an MBA through RMIT University, The Exit Advisory Group helps business owners migrate their way through the question of “What's my business worth when I eventually sell?”That's not an unusual question for a business broker to ask, but the unique position that Simon takes is that “If you have a Vision, we have a way to get you there”Simon Bedard LinkedIn Profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/business-sales-sydney/Exit Advisory Group  Website: https://exitadvisory.com.au/LinkedIn Company Page: https://www.linkedin.com/company/exitadvisorygroup/Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/exitadvisorygroup/Instagram Page: https://www.instagram.com/exitadvisorygroup/YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ16bg2expmwNDbcHyjWCxwBuy Grow Sell  Website: https://buygrowsell.com/LinkedIn Company Page: https://www.linkedin.com/company/buy-grow-sell-biz/Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/buygrowsellbizInstagram Page: https://www.instagram.com/buygrowsellbiz/YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-lrfSVRd4deO0kDj0ort3ABook a call with Simon and donte $50 to https://www.kiva.org/ Stephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here - https://inspiringbusiness.net/exploration-call-booking/The Scale to Success System - https://inspiringbusiness.net/deep-dive-program/Stephen Sandor LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-sandor/Inspiring Business LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/inspiring-businessFacebook https://www.facebook.com/inspiringbusinessaustralia

You could stumble before you start on your business improvement strategy unless you take the time to be very clear on your strategy.Mistakes at this early stage become a huge expense later on.As the leader of your team, they are relying upon you to be very clear on the direction. The biggest mistake that business owners make is thinking they have to do this all on their own.So the planning of resources is essential to the success of the project. The things that need to be looked at are the internal, external, financial, and management resources available to be used. And when and who to use is the critical step. Again, a common mistake is to try to make too many changes all at once. Unless the business is about to go under financially, you have time on your side.Pick an important but not urgent priority and use this as the initial milestone target. You'll need to list all the other priorities, but in the beginning, focus on a laser-focused short-term outcome.Follow the thinking process in this podcast and have the confidence to know your plan will succeed.

Financial Modelling from a Sales, Marketing and Value perspective Episode 6

As we face yet another series of business challenges in the shape of inflation, interest rises, staff shortages and the potential for wage increases, it is more important than ever to have to be in control of your business. At the core of this control is your financial viability and the tool that helps you with this analysis is your Financial Statement. Unfortunately it's estimated that 75% of small and medium business owners have less than a basic understanding of their financial position. The remedy is for business owners to seek specialist advice from an accountant.Typically when financial are mentioned people think of revenue and expenses. I'm going to cover two inputs into the revenue pot. These are Sales and MarketingI discuss the importance of understanding your marketing objectives and how to measure the results. Marketing, done well, makes the sales process more predictable. Determining the Return On Investment on your Marketing spend needs constant monitoring and it's the most difficult measurement to make because of the lag between input and output. Once again it's knowing what questions to ask and using your Experiential Awareness when deciding what direction and investment to make.Sales is somewhat easier in that it far simpler to measure. The difficulty is the interpretation of the results. Having a more consistent level of sales activity means that you will have more confidence in predicting the level of revenue.Every decision on what to spend money on is based on the estimated return on the investment and the value that investment will bring. I look at the perception of value for money as a buyer and seller. This episode meanders through the connections between marketing, sales and spending money and how these can be modelled to provide you with process to budget for the next few years.Ask - Ryan LevesqueThe Right It - Alberto SavoiaBlindsight Matt Johnson & Prince GhumanBuilding a Story Brand - Donald MillerStephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here - https://inspiringbusiness.net/exploration-call-booking/The Scale to Success System - https://inspiringbusiness.net/deep-dive-program/Stephen Sandor LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-sandor/Inspiring Business LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/inspiring-businessFacebook https://www.facebook.com/inspiringbusinessaustraliaRiverside Subscription

In this episode of the Lazy Entrepreneur, we walk through a very different approach to managing people and reclaiming human resource management to its rightful place. The Manager of people.HR Compliance, Workplace Gender Equality Agency, Occupational Health and Safety, Personnel Management, and other HR services all fit inside the HR Department. The accountability for organising and managing people and their performance, in my opinion, needs to sit within the team and NOT HR.Performance Management, the great resignation, or even the big resignation as it is now being called, has put an enormous amount of pressure on all types of businesses to recruit and retain employees. So doing things the same as everyone else is just not going to cut it.I'm introducing the concept of the Accountability and Behaviour Solution. It's made up of 3 components.Collective Accountability and Behaviour, the Supervisor Support Solution, and Individual Agreements. We define the reason the business has succeeded that helps us to explain the Collective Accountability and BehaviourWe find agreement that supports behaviour that enables the continued success. And the key one simple shift in the definition of a supervisor's KPI to a specific behaviour of mentorship and replacing themselves over time. This approach feels counter intuitive, but in fact, it's how successful businesses have created psychological safety to become an employer of choice.Stephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here - https://inspiringbusiness.net/exploration-call-booking/The Scale to Success System - https://inspiringbusiness.net/deep-dive-program/Stephen Sandor LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-sandor/Inspiring Business LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/inspiring-businessFacebook https://www.facebook.com/inspiringbusinessaustraliaRiverside Subscription

There are lots of people who are in the Sales Coaching space and it's a very competitive market. There's a difference between being a good Sales Person and being a good Sales Coach or Manager. It's rare you find someone who has transitioned successfully so I was I really pleased when Adam agreed to come on the show.Adam Bude and I have known each other for about a year now and we've had numerous interactions where Adam has always been generous with his advice and counsel, especially in the area of Sales.A real challenge for business owners, especially those who are starting out or looking to expand, is the tendency to take on anything and everything to bring in revenue.I'm sure there are differing opinions on whether or not to take on all jobs for the revenue and work it out as you go, and I guess this approach would appeal to the quickstarts, or be very targeted and become the authority in a space, which is a harder and slower process.I'm sure there are valid arguments made for both scenarios, but I would suggest the former is a result of weak financial management, poor planning, or circumstances beyond the individual's control rather than a strategic approach. What I like and resonate with is Adam's view and focus on the client, not just from the client's interests but also on making sure what you offer solves the client's problem. And if you don't have the solution you refer it to someone who can deliver exactly what the client wants.Adam BudeCEO  The Authentic Sales Training Academy Adam Bude LinkedIn The Authentic Sales Training Academy Web SiteStephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here - https://ib30explore.youcanbook.meThe Scale to Success System - https://inspiringbusiness.net/deep-dive-program/Stephen Sandor LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-sandor/Inspiring Business LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/inspiring-businessInspiring Business Facebook https://www.facebook.com/inspiringbusinessaustralia Riverside SubscriptionInspiring Business is recorded on Riverside.fm If you'd like to record high-quality audio and video files you can use the link below. Kylie Spyrides is building a growing photography business in Perth and also giving back through the Decide your Destiny Movement. We discussed many different subjects from growing up in Sydney with his Grandparents and the impact that has had on his life and life choices; how a comment from Kyle's Grandfather when Kyle was an 18 year old inspired the title for his book. The one theme that ran through this whole conversation that I think you'll resonate with is that there are moments in ones life where we can just ‘move on' or we take the time to reflect and find meaning in what we do.In last week's episode with Aveline Clarke, purpose was the basis on which Aveline has built and building a life's work, as is purpose at the core of Kyle's life and vision as he makes an impact on those around him.Kyl'e's story had so many little nuggets about resilience, but I think the one thing that stood out like a country mile was the respect and gratitude Kyle has for the gifts that are handed to him.LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kyle-spyridesFacebook https://www.facebook.com/kyle.spyridesWebsite http://www.soulgazingphotography.com Decide Your Destiny Facebook GroupStephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here - https://inspiringbusiness.net/exploration-call-booking/The Scale to Success System - https://inspiringbusiness.net/deep-dive-program/Stephen Sandor LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-sandor/Inspiring Business LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/inspiring-businessFacebook https://www.facebook.com/inspiringbusinessaustraliaRiverside Subscriptionhttps://riverside.fm/?utm_campaign=campaign_1&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=rewardful&via=stephen-sandor

How many business owners started a business because of a purpose? I know I didn't and I would suggest not many have it as a central part of their offering. It's a bit like Mazlow's hierarchy of needs. Money is important but it's impossible to be a sustainable driver. Over time it's replaced with something else. It could be Ego and Power, or it could be Influence and Impact.Being clear on your business purpose provides you with clarity about who you serve. This means that your messaging becomes aligned with your ideal clients. The result, is you don't have to sell.Aveline Clarke, the CEO of Journey Point, walks us through why and how purpose makes a huge success in attracting the right type of client.Aveline Clarke CEO Journey PointAveline's LinkedIn Journey Point Website  Stephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here - https://inspiringbusiness.net/exploration-call-booking/The Scale to Success System - https://inspiringbusiness.net/deep-dive-program/Stephen Sandor LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-sandor/Inspiring Business LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/inspiring-businessFacebook https://www.facebook.com/inspiringbusinessaustraliaRiverside Subscriptionhttps://riverside.fm/?utm_campaign=campaign_1&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=rewardful&via=stephen-sandor

Business owners seek advice from experts because they have a specific problem. But sometimes the problem may not be the key issue for the business and the owner is looking for advice. Many times the business owner doesn't know what question to ask and if the adviser has one tool in their tool bag then the owners is getting one solution. There are obvious differences between a specialist and a generalist, and the Medical  and Law professions don't seem to have a problem in bringing in a specialist Surgeon or Barrister. But in the world of business it seems advisers want to be both.“You need a (fill in the blank) and I just happen to have the best blank solution.”Both Sam and I feel that there is a better way and it starts with listening and asking questions. Being curious about all aspects of the business and that may also include how the owner is ‘feeling'.I'm often surprised how feelings are brushed over because these are the owner's emotions and are often the best signal to where the problem actually sits.Sam guides expert advisers and helps them to offer a more fulfilling service to them and their clients and this sits alongside my Scale to Success Strategy as it fits into the application of process, people and performance. If you've enjoyed this episode go ahead and subscribe so the episode will magically appear each week.If you enjoyed this or any of the other episodes, what would really help is a review on your favorite Podcast platform, as that helps spread the word. There are plenty of additional resources on our website at www.inspiringbusiness.net and I'm active on LinkedIn, and occasionally on Facebook and Twitter.Thank you for listening and my wish as always is to inspire and energise you to take action so you can make a difference in your and other people's lives.Sam Dean Director, Blueprint HQSam Dean  LinkedIn Blueprint HQ Web Site Business  Habitat Podcast Stephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here The Scale to Success SystemStephen Sandor LinkedIn Inspiring Business LinkedIn Inspiring Business Facebook Riverside SubscriptionInspiring Business is recorded on Riverside.fm. Mangala Martinus provides an insight into what it takes to build a successful business over time.Mangala took his experience as an employee and applied it to his goal of being a Consultant, and has built a business that is based on collaboration amongst a group of peers to provide a specific solution to a specific problem within a specific niche. There were many moments of wisdom woven into the conversation and these are these are just a few.Being a contrarian is not an easy road to travel In the book of that name M. Scot Peck wrote  "Move out or grow in any dimension and pain as well as joy will be your reward. A full life will be full of pain." The choice not to follow the crowd down the traditional LinkedIn pathway was “painful” in the beginning, but now the rewards are coming to fruition.Ego is not a dirty word if it helps to convey your confidence at delivery, and being aware of one's ego as a positive influence versus it being one of hubris. The one that stood out for me as I resonated this in my own business was Mangala's reflection on not finding a Mentor earlier to guide him through his journey. And I know for me when I started Inspiring Business I searched for that guide as well and as my business grows I also seek out Mentors who have experienced what I'm about to experience. The knowledge of the guide is priceless. The Scale to Success Strategy can be your guide to your success.Mangala Martinus - Managing Director of Payments Consulting NetworkMangala Martinus LinkedInPayment Consulting Network LinkedIn Business PagePayments Consulting Network Website Stephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here - https://inspiringbusiness.net/exploration-call-booking/The Scale to Success System - https://inspiringbusiness.net/deep-dive-program/Stephen Sandor LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-sandor/Inspiring Business LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/inspiring-businessFacebook https://www.facebook.com/inspiringbusinessaustraliaWe record on Riverside.fm and if you are considering recording your Podcast I can highly recommend it. Episode 51 Considering ESG in your Marketing Strategy will put you ahead of the pack

Considering whether to include Environment, Social and Governance in your Brand awareness strategy may not be obvious, but Owen Hughes gives you some compelling arguments why you should start to consider it.It definitely ruffled Elon Musk's feathers. Owen and I recorded this conversation in May 2022 and about the same time there was controversy over the dropping of Tesla from the S & P 500 ESG Index and this got under the skin of Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO. Leaving aside the details of whether Tesla's inclusion or exclusion are valid and warranted, it's obvious that ESG is important when it comes to Brand support.Owen is an experienced marketer and pointed ou that brands who do not include ESG in their marketing strategy will eventually be left behind in the race for consumer support.I would add that employers in general, not just the larger brands, need to consider ESG from the perspective of the choices employees will make when deciding which employers matches their values. We saw when companies adopted the ‘new safety regime' of the 80's and 90's they were rewarded with contracts because of their values towards safety.More recently Psychological Safety has become an important focus for all levels of business. I don't see this happening in the short term, but as ESG becomes a more accepted and possibly even driven by compliance, it will need to become a consideration, so you may as well get ahead of the curve.I'd place this in two camps, the first being risk management and the second being corporate culture. The obvious one is marketing but I feel you need to get the context right before you launch into execution.Owen HughesDirector - Eyes Wide Open CommunicationBusiness Development - CSR AccreditationCSR Accreditation websiteOwen Hughes LinkedIn Stephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here - https://inspiringbusiness.net/exploration-call-booking/The Scale to Success Strategy - https://inspiringbusiness.net/deep-dive-program/Stephen Sandor LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-sandor/Inspiring Business LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/inspiring-businessFacebook https://www.facebook.com/inspiringbusinessaustraliaRiverside Subscription

The thing about running a business, especially ones without a senior management team, is you're typically making decisions in isolation and these are based on your knowledge and experience to date.  Simone's strategy has been to develop relationships with people who have the same values, similar drive and positivity and perhaps have experienced the problem you're facing and so can provide a form of mentorship and guidance. That's an unpaid relationship and as Simone said it needs to be a two way conversation. The other way to get help is to ask a business adviser who can spend more time understanding your problem and offer similar mentorship or guidance, or potentially a consultancy approach. It just depends on the problem. And as a paid adviser they join your management team on a fractional basis. If I have a criticism of the Coaching or Consulting community is there is a tendency to be all things to all people. For example I don't work with Solo business owners because I have nothing to offer them. Why? Because I'm actually working my way through that maize myself. However, for a business that is established and needs a more robust management structure because the owner wants to transition from being a doer to being the strategic leader, that's exactly the experiences I've personally had. So I'm able to be the guide through that process. So I understand the frustrations of being at work far more than feels necessary and missing out on being or doing the things you love. And I know how to help you get out of that maize.I'd love to hear about your goals and why you want to achieve them and together we can develop a roadmap for you to get what you want for you and your family. You can book and exploration call through my website at www.inspiringbusiness.netSimone PentisAdvantage Partners Lawyers Website LinkedIn Simone Pentis LinkedIn Advantage Partners LawyersStephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here - https://inspiringbusiness.net/exploration-call-booking/The Scale to Success System - https://inspiringbusiness.net/deep-dive-program/Stephen Sandor LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-sandor/Inspiring Business LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/inspiring-businessFacebook https://www.facebook.com/inspiringbusinessaustraliaRiverside Subscriptionhttps://riverside.fm/?utm_campaign=campaign_1&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=rewardful&via=stephen-sandor

But like Lynda I'm not an expert in these areas and although I've found them to be useful to a degree, even though their supporters would say that these systems have bias removal added in because by definition the output is impacted by the input.I'm keen to see how this fits in with what I'm seeing as a movement towards decentralization across the political, financial and people ecosystems. I hope this interview has peaked enough interest for you to at least look a little deeper and reach out to LyndaI'm sure you have a sense of what you love doing, so having a tool in your kit bag to guide you down this track would be invaluable.Lynda Gaiao ConsultingLynda Gaiao LinkedInStephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here - https://inspiringbusiness.net/exploration-call-booking/The Scale to Success System - https://inspiringbusiness.net/deep-dive-program/Stephen Sandor LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-sandor/Inspiring Business LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/inspiring-businessFacebook https://www.facebook.com/inspiringbusinessaustraliaWe use Riverside.fm to record our PodcastsInspiring Business receives a small commission for any New Subscribers to Riverside through this link.

The story behind the story and something that resonated for me was that over Gavin's career there was a common theme of continually looking for a purpose and a way to then have a positive impact on the environment around him. That's certainly something that has driven me for the past 30 years. Many business owners start with the purpose of creating a life that is better than the one they had. When success comes it's extremely satisfying because it's a validation of the hard work, focus and determination, to succeed. The baseline measurement of success in the early days of a business has to be linked to the financials as Gavin mentioned. But for some once financial security has been achieved the measurement of success takes on a different meaning. I hear it expressed “I've got everything I've wanted and I'm still not happy. Why?” I understand for some this sounds crazy as they are driven by that measure of success and it's how they measure their value. It's not until their is a jolt to this existence that they feel the need to make a change. It's typically a health scare, theirs or a loved one, a relationship breaking down, or just a burn out.At this point you're playing catch-up or you're backed into a corner. There are great and simple tips in this episode on how to be aware of your emotions and being intentional with your actions.

Colin Lee from Inspire Realty is attempting to be a catalyst for structural change in the property advising industry through his bespoke approach to creating individual investment portfolios.Colin's management approach as he scales his business has been formed from years of  experience and as he says ‘I'm still figuring this out”. As we all are. I thought it was clever and astute how Colin connected his role as visionary to purpose and making sure his team understand the impact their roles have on the client outcome. It requires building trust and an open and honest environment to allow the business to flourish. It's interesting that the last two conversations I've had the business was started as a result of an unexpected event impacting on the individual. In Colin's case it was a redundancy and in Chris Olufeso's in Episode 46 it was a choice to leave a toxic environment, but both Chris and Colin had the idea, I'll say, in reserve, and the event was the catalyst or enabler for them to make the change, and potentially if that situation hadn't presented itself, the businesses would not have been created and therefore their value possibly would not have been uncovered and they would not now be making their impact on the world.I see this happening with business owners where it's not a redundancy but an event that causes them to think differently about their business. And sometimes it's too late to recover from. And like Chris and Colin they never thought it would happen to them. Another wonderful conversation with so many thoughtful insights into how to become a better business owner, leader and human being. There were too many nuggets of gold to list them all here, but the two that stood out for me were the principle to hire quality staff, elevate them and celebrate their success and the second was the lesson that letting go and being less controlling actually enables you to be focussed on the high value activities that your passionate about and generates value. These are valuable tips to be reminded of as we navigate our way through the new normal post-Covid environment. In 2020 we were forced to rethink our business strategies and in a weird way it reinvigorated some parts of the economy, and unfortunately decimating others. As we come out of Covid  and into the new normal, I'm sensing a different level of pressure will now be placed on business owners. We are dealing with geo-political uncertainty, interest rate pressures, supply chain disruptions, wages pressure, interest rate pressure, staffing pressure, and a doubling down by everyone on digital marketing to get on top of the competition. So I don't see any let up for you, the business owner, any time soon so I see another cycle where there will be opportunities as well as threats. It takes a Village to raise a child.Change is often perceived as bad but doesn't always have to be that. It's how you handle it that matters. And finally, being vulnerable is a strength. There were so many lessons that I learnt throughout this period and the years after our divorce that I have been able to apply to my business and management style.Stephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here - https://inspiringbusiness.net/exploration-call-booking/The Scale to Success System - https://inspiringbusiness.net/deep-dive-program/Stephen Sandor LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-sandor/Inspiring Business LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/inspiring-businessFacebook https://www.facebook.com/inspiringbusinessaustraliaRiverside SubscriptionWe record on Riverside.fm and if you are considering recording your Podcast and can highly recommend it. I don't know what I don't know is a frequently used term especially when starting something new. As you have more experiences sometimes they don't work out and now there's pain or doubt associated with that decision. I don't think your age helps or hinders, I believe it's a function of the experience. Now knowing what you know and not having had a great experience makes you cautious. That could help with avoiding pain, but it can also be paralysing. My favourite saying is mistakes are only decisions that were made with not enough information. More information, different decision.Knowing when or if to pull the trigger on a decision is having enough information to be uncomfortably comfortable.I created the Scale to Success System to do that very thing. To have enough information and data for you as the business owner to have confidence to make those important decisions. I offer an Exploration call so we can talk about your plans to scale your business, whatever that means to you. It could be you want to grow, but it also might be getting more time to work on your business or maybe having time to spend outside the business, It might be working on your profit, people or a combination of all of these.LinkedIn Jackson GartnerWebsite White Peak DigitalStephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here - https://inspiringbusiness.net/exploration-call-booking/The Scale to Success System - https://inspiringbusiness.net/deep-dive-program/Stephen Sandor LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-sandor/Inspiring Business LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/inspiring-businessFacebook https://www.facebook.com/inspiringbusinessaustraliaRiverside SubscriptionWe record on Riverside.fm and if you are considering recording your Podcast and can highly recommend it. Sandra D'Soza is the Founder and CEO of Ellect whose focus is helping businesses to achieve their Environmental Social and Governance Goals in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Ellect offers two products being the Ellect Stars in Gender Equality and the Supplier Diversity Marketplace.Sandra and I spoke after the interview about our conversation and there were not many references to ‘how to' and it was more about the purpose and feelings towards the subject. It was more serious than both of us expected but right now it probably needs to be taken seriously.Maybe in another 5 years the conversation around supply diversity will be one questioning why you don't have it, and you're missing out on opportunitiesThe work that Sandra does is incredibly important and I'm buoyed that the senior executives see this area as a focus for the years to come.I know that as I grew up I was fortunate to be surrounded by multi-culturalism and the 10 years in worked in Papua New Guinea taught me many skills that I would not have gained here in Australia and have been incredibly valuable as I help business owners scale their business. It's shaped how I see things. I think it gave me the opportunity to see things through a different lens. The opportunity here is for small businesses is to create value for their business through a diverse workforce and as a result will be of value to larger organisations who are also walking down this path. Sandra's details in the show notes and I'd encourage you to investigate her web site.Sandra D'Souza LinkedInWebsite http://www.ellect.biz Email: sandra@ellect.biz Stephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here - https://inspiringbusiness.net/exploration-call-booking/The Scale to Success System - https://inspiringbusiness.net/deep-dive-program/Stephen Sandor LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-sandor/Inspiring Business LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/inspiring-businessFacebook https://www.facebook.com/inspiringbusinessaustraliaWe record on Riverside.fm and if you are considering recording your Podcast and can highly recommend it. In this Episode Tony Hillary sold his UK based business after 30 years and when Tony said “That by the time I sold the business I wasn't needed”.And isn't that how it should be?There were a few things that struck me about this conversation with Tony Hillary.First was Tony's approach to solving problems. Not overthinking things and using his common sense. We could all do with a dose of that.I know some people may say times have changed over the past 40 years, and that's true, but I don't think the fundamentals of business have.Find great people, have a quality product or service, and value your customers. That seems too obvious but to quote Tony, “Don't overthink it”.It do believe there is a common theme with success business owners and that's the application of Leadership and Tony's was based on a genuine desire, and dare I say humility, to find people better than him, make sure he trusted them, and then let them do their job.So business needs good people and a sound business model, and then just do it.Great advice from one who spent 30 years building a business that Scaled to Success. Stephen Sandor CEO Inspiring BusinessInspiring Business website - www.inspiringbusiness.netBook an Exploration Call here - https://inspiringbusiness.net/exploration-call-booking/The Scale to Success System - https://inspiringbusiness.net/deep-dive-program/Stephen Sandor LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-sandor/Inspiring Business LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/inspiring-businessFacebook https://www.facebook.com/inspiringbusinessaustralia
