Well, get ready for an exciting show. I don't think that I've had as many people in the studio has, I did with this episode. From Virginia McWilliam, Head of School, Angela LeClerc, 4th Grade Teacher, Katherine Payne, Practical Arts Teacher, Tyler Young, School Counselor, Anne Griffin, Director of Development, Paule Sustick, Assistant Director of Land Stewardship, to the 4 students, Erin, Selena, Rosa, and Rowan-we had a blast. The School has been an independent Waldorf School since 1981, and they serve birth to 12th grade students. Nestled on a 54-acre property in Hadley and enrolling over 260 students, Hartsbrook focuses on experiential learning and creating self confidence in the kids they oversee. The focus on land and community is paramount, listen in to hear how you can support the school or get your kiddo enrolled. I wish I was still young enough to attend as it sounds like a dream place to educate a human. Mark your calendar for the spring 5K Dandelion Dash or the Farm to Table Dinner and Auction in the fall.

Sarah and Jamie are joined by book reviewer Laura King (@lauraeatsbooks in Instagram and Twitter), to discuss Listening Still, the follow-up novel to Anne Griffin’s phenomenal bestselling debut, When All Is Said. Laura talks to us about how she manages to be such a prolific reader (one hundred books a year!), about how her reading habits changed during the pandemic, her favourite book of the last twelve months, and her all-time favourite author.
The new novel by the best-selling author of When All is Said. From the best-selling author of When All is Said comes a delicious new novel about a young woman who can hear the dead - a talent which is both a gift and a curse. Jeanie Masterson has a gift: she can hear the recently dead and give voice to their final wishes and revelations. Inherited from her father, this gift has enabled the family undertakers to flourish in their small Irish town. Yet she has always been uneasy about censoring some of the dead's last messages to the living. Unsure, too, about the choice she made when she left school seventeen years ago: to stay or leave for a new life in London with her charismatic teenage sweetheart. So when Jeanie's parents unexpectedly announce their plan to retire, she is jolted out of her limbo. In this captivating successor to her bestselling debut, Anne Griffin portrays a young woman who is torn between duty, a comfortable marriage and a role she both loves and hates and her last chance to break free, unaware she has not been alone in softening the truth for a long while.

Anne is the Irish No. 1 best-selling author for her debut novel ‘When All Is Said’, and she was also awarded Newcomer of the Year at 2019s Book Awards. Anne explores and shares the journey she went through – and how she wouldn’t change a thing about it – starting with a BA in History in UCD, then after college she worked for over 8 years in Waterstones bookstore, where her love for books flourished. That’s not where her writing career started though, in the years that followed Anne acquired qualifications in Community & Youth Work, Accounts Technician and lastly in 2015 a MA in Creative Writing. But we’ll leave all the story telling to Anne in the new episode of Next Gen Fem. We’re excited for you to hear our 15th episode, I hope you enjoy.

In this episode, we speak with Anne Griffin, Lead Product Manager at OpenLaw. OpenLaw is a ConsenSys spoke that is building next generation smart legal agreements. We cover a lot of great topics in this discussion such as how the OpenLaw team is trying to build a Wikipedia-like community to drive contract law forward, what their business model is, how they overcome being such a geographically distributed and remote-first team, and much more. Like in many industries, the legal community still uses incredibly outdated technologies such as Microsoft Word and track changes to work through long and complex legal agreements. Anne walks us through how she and her team are trying to push against that inertia and bring law into the 21st century. She also gives us her perspective on why OpenLaw will supplement rather than automate law and replace lawyers. Particularly interesting is hearing how incredibly distributed the OpenLaw team is with employees in Thailand, India, the US and Europe, and how they overcome the obvious challenges that presents. Some of their tools and tactics they use to mitigate those challenges are really interesting and well worth considering if your team is struggling with being remote-first and highly distributed. Enjoy! Show Notes [0:31] Show intro. [1:02] Anne’s background and path to crypto. [8:51] Description of OpenLaw and the project’s history. [16:09] If OpenLaw is GitHub-ifying contract law, how do courts view enforceability of smart contracts? [18:29] How blockchain technology may or may not affect the job of lawyers.
