David Waldman and Greg Dworkin take on a new day, week, month, and the same old chaos. Donald K. Trump won his 43rd club championship at one of his courses. It's called TALENT, and money. You know Donald. Always bullshitting. You know he is, he knows he is. Leave it there, you're cool, but call Trump on it and you have a fight. Because, admitting he's wrong just isn't part of the game… and not playing along can lose you a job, send you to prison, or worse. Capital One was playing along, but Trump wouldn't walk away, could not shut up, and Capital One quit playing. It made absolutely no difference if Todd Blanche formally rescinded Trump's J6 slush fund, which is why Blanche did it. Gops are playing along with that, but Trump doesn't play along with anybody's bullshit but his own. Dems are strongly favored to take the House, and maybe the Senate. Abdul El-Sayed's name might not be enough to keep voters from scratching in the bubble next to it. Low-turnout voters might not turn out. Indecisive Democrats aren't sure what to do. Gop staff is filling up with young Groypers. The Evangelical Church is filled people who are Christian as an afterthought.

I'm reading this headline from Mediaite: “GOP Senate Candidate Ends Press Conference After Dodging Questions About Son-In-Law's White Nationalist Posts.” Now stop right there. Notice the construction of that headline. Not “Republican candidate promotes white nationalism.” Not “Republican candidate makes antisemitic comments.” No. It's the son-in-law. The man married to his daughter. Now, let me say something very clearly. If somebody in my family said something hateful, I would absolutely have a conversation with them. I would tell them they're wrong. I would tell them why they're wrong. But am I responsible for every thought that comes out of every adult relative's mouth? Apparently, according to the modern Left, I am. This is where politics has become a bizarre family reunion where everybody is held responsible for the weird uncle sitting in the corner eating potato salad and talking about aliens. And here's the thing: if the standard is guilt by association, then nobody survives. Nobody. Not Democrats. Not Republicans. Nobody. But that's not really the standard, is it? The standard is selective outrage. The media doesn't ask, “What happened?” They ask, “How can we connect this person to something embarrassing?” And that's dangerous because eventually you destroy the idea that people are individuals. We are not our neighbor. We are not our spouse. We are not our cousin. We are not our crazy uncle. And yes, sometimes people in our own families disappoint us. Welcome to humanity. Democrats also face a growing divide over election policies, immigration, and voter confidence. Polling has consistently shown broad public support for measures such as voter identification requirements and stronger border enforcement. Yet Democratic leaders have often opposed Republican proposals on these issues, arguing they create unnecessary barriers. That creates a political problem: when voters believe an issue is common sense, explaining why it should not happen becomes a difficult assignment. It is the equivalent of a restaurant owner trying to convince customers that the broken refrigerator is actually part of the dining experience. The bigger challenge for Democrats is not one primary loss or one bad advertisement. Political parties can recover from individual mistakes. Chuck Todd argues Republicans and the White House are frantically trying to manufacture headlines about the past precisely because the actual news of the present is terrible for the GOP, and because the very issues that got Trump elected are the ones he's now ignoring. Democrats are winning heading into the midterms, TChuck says; the only real question is by how much, which is exactly why Republicans are so desperate to feed their base culture-war red meat as a distraction. But the story Chuck argues is being dangerously underplayed is the Iran war, which is no longer a regional conflict at all: close to thirty countries have been directly involved, multiple nations have been hit, and the Iran and Ukraine wars have effectively merged through shared supply chains — Russia has launched thousands of Iranian-made drones at Ukraine, improved and manufactured them, and is now shipping them back to Iran, while Ukrainian air defense teams have been redeployed to the Middle East and the American stockpile of interceptor missiles has been so massively depleted that commanders are rationing them. He calls the war the dumbest mistake a president has made in decades, while rising oil prices help both Iran and Russia.. It's not World War III, he cautions, but it's genuinely hard to see how it ends, and Congress should be singularly focused on it and simply isn't. He then pivots to what he calls a politics of AI that hasn't been invented yet, where the public is way ahead of the politicians: 72% of Americans have used AI in the past three months and like it, but the vast majority don't trust big tech or the AI companies, and the fierce backlash against data centers is really the manifestation of a deeper anger ever since tech companies stopped trying to improve lives and started maximizing engagement.
