(1:03:51) Key Quotes: “Back when we started, we were the only show that the podcast wasn't a funnel to get you into some sort of coaching or training or something of that nature. The podcast is the product. So, therefore, we can leave it all out on the field, per se.” - Bradley Flowers “I always wanted the opportunity to start something where we could help other agents get better every single week.” - Scott Howell  “If you want to be an elite content creator, you've got to step your game up.” - Bradley Flowers

In this episode of The Power Producers Podcast, David Carothers and co-host Kyle Houck interview Bradley Flowers, Founder of Portal Insurance & Co-Host of The Insurance Guys Podcast. Bradley tells us all about the upcoming One City World Tour, including its purpose, the roster of speakers, and the activities that conference attendees can anticipate. Episode Highlights: Bradley notes that they opted to have the event during the week, on January 18th and 19th, so that guests may still enjoy their family day on the weekends. (9:03) David explains that the most difficult part of organizing a conference is keeping everyone's attention and keeping them interested throughout. (10:44) Bradley shares some of the challenges of being a speaker and one speaker he thinks is really effective. (17:25) Bradley mentions that they made a mistake last year by having too many speakers and not leaving enough time for networking, so they're doing the opposite this year. (20:42) David mentions that CoverWhale has been very effective for his agency. (31:25) Bradley shares how he advises his team to respond when a client is upset with them. (43:42) Bradley provides more details about the speakers and vendors who will be at the One City Conference. (46:01) Bradley talks about how they tried to get Joe Rogan to come to the One City Conference. (48:09) Bradley explains how they created a solution for agents writing pet insurance, making it easy to write with a competitive commission. (51:51) Bradley shares that he always seeks to cover families since, historically, families purchase additional lines of insurance. (57:59) Tweetable Quotes: “One mistake we made last year is we had so many speakers that we did not leave enough room for networking. So this year, we're kind of doing the opposite. And we were purposefully having networking times and that sort of thing. We've got some pretty cool ideas and stuff that's gonna give some people who don't come to some serious FOMO. So it'll be a lot of fun.” - Bradley Flowers “The reason a lot of people want to insure families is because traditionally, typically, families have extra lines of insurance they buy.” - Bradley Flowers “I tell my team all the time, if somebody's upset with you, don't get offended. Like, don't let them cuss you out. To me, that's like the bar. But you've got to let them vent a little bit. Everybody hates insurance. Trust is important, whether you're finding an insurance agent you're comfortable with, managing finances as a married couple, or building it as a business owner. In this episode of the Stuff About Money podcast, Erik Garcia, CFP®, BFA, and Xavier Angel, CFP®, ChFC, CLTC, are joined by the entrepreneur (and #41st in the world in Oculus golf) Bradley Flowers of The Insurance Guys Podcast and Portal Insurance to talk about running multiple ventures and why insurance agents in Nebraska shouldn't write for policies on the Gulf Coast. Episode Highlights: Erik shares that the name "Stuff About Money" came from Bradley. (5:47) Bradley believes that as an entrepreneur, the first 3 to 4 businesses should be run in parallel. (8:31) Bradley explains that the most important value a financial advisor must have is the people's trust. (12:50) Bradley explains effective budgeting is something he wishes he had learned 20 years ago. (13:45) Bradley discusses the significance of budgeting and investing wisely. (18:56) Bradley suggests that newlyweds plan their finances together and approach them as one thing instead of a separate thing. (20:46) Xavier mentions that it's a good idea for couples to have a joint account because he has seen a lot of couples who don't have them and get into disagreements because they don't know what's being spent and where the money is going. (22:56) Erik explains that a couple doesn't need to have a joint account, but they do need to be rowing in the same direction. (24:33) Bradley shares that one thing he isn't afraid to do, that he believes many business owners are afraid of, is hiring, outsourcing, and delegating when necessary. (27:22) Erik discusses the benefits of hiring a fractional CFO. (29:42) Bradley explains that the best advice is from people who are unbiased about your situation and aren't emotionally connected to it. (32:08) According to Bradley, if you own a business, you should look for an insurance firm that specializes in your industry. (34:53) Key Quotes: “The best advice is from people who are unbiased to your situation and aren't emotionally connected to it. If you can get some sort of advisor in any facet of your life or business, that know your situation, but are not emotionally or physically vested. That's the best advice you can get. That's the advice you need.” - Bradley Flowers “I'm not scared to do what I think a lot of business owners are, which is hiring out, outsourcing, and delegating when it's called for.” - Bradley Flowers “The one piece of advice I would give you is be very, very, very careful when it comes to buying insurance online and doing it yourself.” - Bradley Flowers Resources Mentioned: Bradley Flowers LinkedIn Portal Insurance The Insurance Guys Podcast Erik Garcia, CFP®, BFA Xavier Angel, CFP®, ChFC, CLTC Plan Wisely Wealth Advisors

Key Takeaways > Grow your brand by helping and educating others. > Know the "why" of your social media marketing and messaging. > Your online brand is the 2020 version of your reputation. > Don't overcomplicate your video content creation. Use your cell phone and iMovie and just get started. > Maximize your social media output by repurposing posts and content. > The road that leads to the sale is paved with engagement. > Focus on your "following," not "followers."   Quotable and Notable You can take one long piece of content that you shoot one day a week, and then you can chop it up and have 15, 20, or 30 pieces of content. I'm putting a lot of content out about helping other insurance agents. I'm running an ad targeting the employees of that insurance company. About 95% of my social strategy right now is for recruiting. Social media is the only reason I'm sitting in this office that is mine in this agency. Social media accounts for almost all of our new business, either directly or indirectly. Over a year and a half of making The Insurance Guys Podcast, I got an MBA on how to open my own insurance company by interviewing the top hundred 50 insurance brokers and connectors in the industry. One benefit we offer our team is if they want to build their personal brand, not only do we allow them, I will help them. People need to build their personal brand, which is the 2020 version of your reputation. There's always a way around compliance. Know the rules and regs and operate within those guidelines. You don't have to be creative. You just document what you're doing throughout the day. - Jason Will I did all my videos on iMovie and some other little apps. You just need a cell phone and get started. Start small, don't try to overdo it. If you want to hire a videographer and go big, go right ahead, but I think taking baby steps can mean the world. LinkedIn is much more professional than Instagram. I think that it's something that a lot of people are missing. When I started strategically distributing my content, that's when my brand started taking off. Don't worry about haters. If you've ever had the privilege of being in Gary Vaynerchuk's office on a podcast, you will discover haters that you thought were friends. Our podcast is probably the number one insurance podcast in the country. I have not looked at our numbers since June. I don't care. I measure the impact. I measure the people who are doing business with our sponsors. When it comes to Instagram and Facebook and things like that, I would rather have the right 200 people following me, then the wrong 200,000. I don't measure my follower count. I measure the engagement. I measure likes, comments, and shares. Nothing is more important than engagement. The road that leads to the sale is paved with engagement. Engagement is the way you get there. There's a distinct difference between followers and a following. If somebody asks you a question more than once, you need to take that and turn that into a piece of social media content.

He's sort of the talent, and I sort of handle the business side of things. - Bradley Flowers When we started The Insurance Guys Podcast, I wanted it to be very original. - Scott Howell I'd always wanted to do a podcast, and so I viewed it as like 'Okay, this will just be something fun, we won't ever really do anything with this.' - Bradley Flowers We did a bunch of research, and eventually concluded that we were going to record the podcast remotely, and Scott was going to record audio...we were going to be on Skype. It was a disaster. - Bradley Flowers I realized pretty early on that we were going to have something that was pretty special. More so than anything else, it just the relationship that Bradley and I have, and our energy that we have and how we play off of each other on the podcast. - Scott Howell Batch recording your podcast is the best way to do it if you want to be consistent. - Bradley Flowers It's easier for me to block off two days to batch record our podcast every two months than it is to block off an hour every week. - Bradley Flowers What podcasting has done for us is all the unintended consequences that we never thought of when we started that. The relationships with people that are the people in the insurance industry, and the thought leaders of the insurance industry, that we now know. - Scott Howell With The Insurance Guys Podcast, we've impacted a lot of people's lives. - Scott Howell Growing up, I knew I wanted to do something that could make a difference. I think that by podcasting, we're helping other people make their dreams a success. And I think that's the difference. We didn't get into podcasting for people to know us or to make money. - Cady Gaut I tell people when they say what's the podcast about. I say, we're answering questions we get asked every day, happens to be we're drinking wine. - Karen Simmons The inspiration for Cheers To Business was the great conversations about our lives as women, and in business, and growing and networking and all of that, and that's really what it was, is just these conversations Karen and I have. - Cady Gaut Mike Stromsoe, a thought leader in the insurance business, he says something that I think is very applicable to both Cady and myself, whatever your past is, your future is spotless. - Scott Howell So many people wonder what their legacy is going to be. But I think The Insurance Guys Podcast will undoubtedly be our legacy when we're not here on earth anymore. - Scott Howell I know Bradley was talking about having nerves and being nervous about the podcast, I don't. It's just like breathing to me. I just get on and go. - Scott Howell The podcast content has to be absolutely fire. Try to pick the best and biggest guest as possible and make sure the audio sounds good. - Bradley Flowers You have entertainment, and you have educational, and if we don't have either one of those at least sound good. - Bradley Flowers That's one of our biggest goals, is that balance of exciting and entertaining, but always educational. - Cady Gaut I think that our ability, to take a topic that is as boring as watching paint dry on a wall dry, and be able to get at the energy level I have that at, and to be able to tell amazingly funny stories all the time, or say something that people just fall on the floor. - Scott Howell You can get somebody to a podcast because of the sound quality, and the this and that and the great guests, but you also have to be able to get 'em back. - Scott Howell There is a talent component to podcasting, no different than why somebody makes it big in the music industry, or on a pilot on television, and then that fourth component is playing off each other. - Scott Howell I had never listened to a podcast before Cady said, 'Let's do a podcast.' - Karen Simmons I was having trouble finding a podcast that I really connected with, because it just didn't have that balance of entertainment and education, and I was like, let's do it, that's us. - Cady Gaut I get between 10 to 15 Facebook friend requests a day from insurance agents all over the country. What they're doing is they're going to our, somehow, someway, getting to our podcast, listening to it, and then friend requesting me. Of course, we've got some other thought leaders that mention us as well when they talk in big groups. It's been a blessing in our life, and I would encourage anybody to give it a shot. - Scott Howell
