Justice. We're breaking down how a movie with a plot that essentially boils down to "fetching beer very quickly" became an absolute cultural phenomenon. In this episode, we discuss… The Power of the Stache: Analyzing the undeniable charisma of Burt Reynolds and his iconic look. The Lost Art of the CB Radio: How handle names and trucker slang became the original social media.Buford T. Justice: Why Jackie Gleason's legendary improvised insults steal the entire movie.Fact or Fiction: Is it actually mathematically possible to drive from Texarkana to Atlanta and back in 28 hours?Whether you're a classic car aficionado or just someone who appreciates a good old-fashioned police chase, this movie still fires on all cylinders. Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! This February we're continuing our new “Fast February” series, where we cover the movies that made Vin Diesel a star and taught the world to live their lives one quarter mile at a time, The Fast & Furious franchise! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and returning guest Bill Mueller discuss 2003's awkward attempt to recapture the magic of the surprisingly successful first movie, 2 Fast 2 Furious! An incredible title! Those silly visor hats! Pepsi and NOS product placement! Trying to pick up girls during a dangerous undercover mission! A Sound Designer-approved audio mix! Loud, somewhat gaudy visuals thanks to that clumsy early thousands aesthetic! A possible influence on the Wachowskis' Speed Racer movie! A larger budget but a less tangible story with somehow even cringier lines! A third act you'll barely remember! The introduction of characters who would go on to be staples of the series! John Singleton trying his hand at directing a silly blockbuster! Race obstacles that would lead to expensive automotive repairs! A great car jump stunt that's wasted due to poor editing and unnecessary visual effects! A cast that includes a returning Paul Walker, James Remar, Eva Mendes, a pre-Yellowstone Cole Hauser, Mark Boone Junior, Devon Aoki, Ludacris, and Tyrese Gibson starting out as somewhat of a Dom Toretto wannabe before finding his character as the movie goes on! The entry of the series with possibly the least sense of "family," you never realized you could miss Vin Diesel so much! In addition, Alex shares his spoiler-free thoughts on Crime 101, Psycho Killer, and the original Hunger Games quadrilogy! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends! The Death Don't Do Fiction podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Hosted by supposed “industry vets,” Alex Harris and Tim Gardiner, the show gives you a peek behind the scenes from two filmmakers with oddly nonexistent filmographies. You can find Alex on Twitter, Bluesky, or Letterboxd @actionharris. This episode's guest, Bill Mueller, can be found on Bluesky. Tim can't be found on social media because he doesn't exist. If you have any questions or suggestions for the Death Don't Do Fiction crew, they can be reached at aiptmoviespod@gmail.com, or you can find them on Twitter or Instagram @aiptmoviespod. Theme song is “We Got it Goin On” by Cobra Man.
Send a textLock and load, dear listeners—because this week on Entertain This!, we're storming Alcatraz one meticulously explosive frame at a time. Join the crew as we embed with Nicolas Cage's sweat-drenched biochemist, Sean Connery's improbably dapper ex-SAS escape artist, and Ed Harris's honor-bound general who decided the Geneva Convention was more of a suggestion. From the Fairmont heist that launched a thousand car chases to the shower-room showdown that still makes us flinch, no bullet casing, no VX vial, and no hairpiece goes unexamined. Expect rapid-fire banter sharper than a SEAL's KA-BAR, plot-hole forensics that would impress the FBI, and enough ‘90s Michael Bay pyrotechnics to trigger every smoke alarm in your vicinity. Whether you're a first-time inmate or a repeat offender, this episode delivers a parole-proof good time. Tune in—because in the words of the film's most quotable convict, losers whine about their best… winners go home and listen to Entertain This!Support the show

If you think L.A. is Sodom and Gomorrah 2.0 today, it was not exactly Disney World in the 80s either. A movie came out in 1985 that showed the not so glamorous side of L.A. with a story about Secret Service agents chasing down a murderous, psychotic counterfeiter around L.A. That movie is William Friedkin's “To Live And Die In L.A.”, and if Friedkin's name sounds familiar, it's because he also directed “The Exorcist” and “The French Connection.” He brings his gritty, never-know-what-you're-gonna-get style to his action thriller. William L. Peterson plays the main character, Secret Service agent Richard Chance and his target in a quest for vengeance is a clever counterfeiter named Eric Masters, played by Willem Dafoe. Masters murders someone very close to Chance and that triggers a dangerous, frenzied pursuit where you never know who's going to make it out alive. “To Live And Die In L.A.” is also famous for a 80s cool soundtrack by Wang Chung. Is it worth checking out? Check out this episode to find out! “To Live And Die In L.A.” also stars Darlanne Fluegel, John Pankow, Debra Feuer, Dean Stockwell, Steve James and Robert Downey Sr.Support the showFeel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook

It's the first *new episode of 2026. Yes, I know we're well past the New Year salutations but alas. This was the perfect type of film to start off the year and a new mood. The Daytrippers have been on my list for a while and it really scratched that itch when it comes to a quirky 90s comedy. I talk about the realistic and aspirational fashion of Parker posey, the many quotes and hijinks that ensue on this caper of madness, and the many roadblocks during the behind the scenes of this film.--Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the Patreon! What happens when revolutionaries break people out of immigration detention centers while Sean Penn does…that…in his car? We're diving deep into this Oscar Best Picture frontrunner's absolutely unhinged blend of political uprising, racist Christmas cults, underground tunnels, and dialogue that made us question reality itself. From baffling PTA meetings to three-car chase sequences, from ‘semen demons' to Medal of Honor massacres at the French 75—is this gonzo thriller the work of genius auteurs or pure cinematic madness? Why is everyone so impossibly horny? How does baby Charlene factor into the revolution? And did Lockjaw really survive THAT? Join Cocktails and Classics as we attempt to decode 2024's most bewildering, chaotic, and strangely compelling fever dream of a film. You'll need a drink for this one.

Calls are mounting to abolish the use of character references in court sentencing, following Queensland’s recent legislation restricting their use in cases involving convicted sex offenders. Character references have long played a controversial role in high-profile cases, including when former Prime Minister John Howard gave one to Cardinal George Pell, describing him as ‘a person of both high intelligence and exemplary character’. More recently in the case of paedophile Ashley Paul Griffith who has pleaded guilty to over 300 charges, also benefited from character references. In this episode of The Briefing Helen Smith, is joined by victim-survivor Josh Byrnes, the ACT representative from Your Reference Ain’t Relevant campaign, to explain how character evidence works in court and why advocates want them abolished. If the Western is the godfather of American cinema, then the crime film is its son.
