When you leave a job to start your own practice, you're making a pretty massive trade:You're trading consistency for upside.Gone is the predictable paycheck, the regular schedule, the structure someone else created for you, and the relative certainty of knowing what you're going to make.In exchange? You get upside. And in this first episode of our Making Your Business Work for You series, we're talking about the most obvious kind: money.Because we all know the fantasy math."If I charge $200 and see 40 patients a week…"And suddenly you're mentally spending the fortune you're obviously going to make as a practice owner.Except…that's not how this works. There are plenty of practice owners making less than they could working for someone else. We'll share some real numbers, break down what different caseloads actually mean for your take-home income, and talk about the financial ceiling of the solo model versus the very different challenges (and opportunities) of growing beyond yourself. We also break down the only four ways to make more money in your practice:Get more leadsConvert more of those leads into patientsKeep your patients longerRaise your pricesBut making more isn't the whole story. You can have a thriving practice and still panic over every cancellation, obsess over every eval who doesn't book, and wonder whether the whole thing is about to come crashing down after one slow week.So we're also talking about financial confidence—knowing your numbers, understanding the normal ups and downs of business, and being confident you're on pace to hit your goals.Because ultimately, running a small business is a get-rich-slow scheme. You stack the wins. You make an extra $25,000 this year. You invest it. You get smarter about taxes. You improve the business. You let those gains compound over years and decades.Your practice might be the single greatest wealth-generating machine you ever create.Just don't expect it to happen overnight.PelviCon Live Virtual + RecordingCan't be with us in person for PelviCon? Summary In this episode, Andy sits down with Johan Roos, professor and executive advisor at Hult International Business School, Executive Director of the Peter Drucker Society Europe, and co-inventor of the LEGO® Serious Play® method. Johan is the author of Human Magic: Leading with Wisdom in an Age of Algorithms, and he has spent decades studying how people think, create, decide, and lead together. Andy and Johan explore the two paths Johan calls erosion and amplification, starting with a question Andy has been wrestling with as he hands more of his manual driving over to Tesla's self-driving. You'll hear what an eroding project manager actually looks like day-to-day, why practical wisdom matters when the analytically optimal answer is not the wisest one, and how AI feeds one kind of curiosity, the laser, while starving another, the radar. Johan also explains the difference between becoming an AI concierge and practicing what he calls professional citizenship, and he shares what parents can do to help their kids hold onto the messy, hands-on curiosity that machines cannot supply. If you're looking for a thoughtful, hopeful way to use AI without surrendering your judgment, this episode is for you! Sound Bites "Almost every good idea I've had was not in front of the screen." "I know what to do, but I've stopped understanding why.".... The eroding project management can no longer explain the why." "So in a sense, they argue that the better the system, the stronger pull down the erosion curve." "So the message is really when the machines are taking over more and more of some of these subtle, very valuable capabilities we have, we have to climb the value creation ladder." "So a complexity is exactly where our wisdom gets exposed." "So every metric said fantastic, but nobody asked why, and is this right?" "If AI can write a document that is important to you, the document was never where the value lived." "But we just have to be careful to not sort of delegate too much of our brain power and sort of erode our jelly bean." "When you lean back and you haven't struggled enough, you may be super smart and, and the best brilliant individual in the world, but, you know, friction is good." "Are you able to argue for your case without holding on to the AI-produced slide?" "Protect the wandering curiosity, unstructured exploration, questions with no immediate payoff, the freedom to follow something nowhere in particular." In this episode, we welcome back filmmaker Leigh Whannell, the co-creator of horror franchise favorites like Saw and Insidious, and the director of films like The Invisible Man and Wolf Man. How can we help save the lives of our pregnant and post-partum patients? What about doing more than just resolving their reported symptoms? We can't wait for you to hear this conversation with Katherine Sylvester - she has spent her entire career challenging the status quo and pushing for better results for her patients. After experiencing postpartum preeclampsia herself, Katherine began asking how wearable data could help women recognize problems earlier, advocate for themselves and make better decisions during pregnancy and postpartum. That eventually grew into Operation M.I.S.T. and her work helping women use their own data to better understand their bodies. And that's just one part of this conversation! We talk about:
What if the first clinician you hire isn't as good as you? It's one of the biggest fears we hear from successful solopreneurs—and it's exactly what Nicole struggled with when we started growing PelvicSanity.Because hiring your first clinician isn't just adding another person to the schedule. It's changing your entire role.Suddenly, you have to trust someone else with your patients, your reputation, your culture and something you've worked incredibly hard to build. And yes...Nicole struggled with this enough that she eventually went to therapy to work through some of the control issues that came with becoming a leader.

Mobile app attackers already operate at machine speed, but most enterprise cyber functions still rely on manual, human-paced patch cycles to keep up. In this episode, Tom Tovar, Co-Creator at Appdome, examines how agentic AI is replacing manual vulnerability assessment and forcing cyber teams to become producers of protection rather than evaluators of risk. The conversation covers the shift from application-level security policies to release- and user-level personalization, the data and context needed to run agentic protection pipelines, and the accountability questions that come with agentic decision-making. This episode is sponsored by Appdome. Learn how financial institutions are digitizing paper-based records to unlock usable data for AI, and using alternative data to enhance risk assessment. Here's what's been on my heart: this is no time to stop creating what matters to you. When the world feels like it's coming apart — when the causes we've worked for our whole lives seem to be coming undone before our eyes — it's so easy to abandon ourselves. To decide that beauty, abundance, a voyage de rêve to Paris, is somehow selfish or beside the point.I'm here to tell you it isn't. We are Co-creators with all of creation, and we must continue to o-create. That is the power we have.In this episode I talk about the difference between the things we can't control — the traffic, the news, who puts their name on an airport — and the one thing we can: our approach to the day. I share why I treat my morning swim as a sacrament, not an indulgence. Why self-expression isn't just nervous-system regulation but a creative spiritual practice. And why, right now, we're going to need to practice pleasure and manifestation right alongside everything else. You're going to have to book it, baby. You're going to have to book the pleasure in.Come take the ride with me. Press play, and I'll see you in circle. Get full access to Tea with the Muse at teawiththemuse.substack.com/subscribe
Created by GUNGNIR Founder and Publisher Matthew Medney, the series features appearances from a rotating cast of comedians that include Julia Hladkowicz (America's Got Talent, Comics Unleashed), Rama Vallury (Super Pumped), Raquel Woodruff (This Time), Jordan Stidham (The Martian Broadcast), Donna Dubrow(Ex Studio Executive, Professionally Unimpressed), as well as “Ad-Man” legend Cliff Medney. Badd, Gramm-mar is a chaotic comedy series about a dysfunctional Los Angeles book club where every week a new book sparks a completely different collision of personalities, perspectives, and worldviews – which inevitably leads to some form of complete emotional meltdown over conflicting opinions regarding the book. Part review show, part social experiment, and part emotional group therapy disguised as fandom discourse, the series follows a rotating cast of readers, “failed” creatives, intellectuals, romantasy addicts, comic shop lifers, and people still trying to graduate to adulthood. Each episode centers around a new “book of the week,” ranging from science fiction epics and romantasy sensations, to literary classics and underground cult favorites, but the conversations quickly spiral far beyond the page. What starts as debates about stories becomes arguments about class, identity, ambition, politics, love, aging, masculinity, feminism, success, failure, and the increasingly unstable state of modern culture itself.“Badd, Gramm-mar began as an experiment to help readers discover great books, but it quickly evolved into something we believed could be a beacon for the book community.” said Matthew Medney, Founder and Publisher of GUNGNIR.“What emerged wasn't a book club. It was a collision of perspectives. Every episode brings together five voices from different walks of life and asks them to debate the same story, revealing as much about themselves as the book in front of them. The comedy is real, the disagreements are authentic, and occasionally the insights are of value. While we may be reviewing books on the surface, Badd, Gramm-mar is ultimately a conversation about the cultural zeitgeist. Books remain one of the last great bastions of subcultural identity, where tribes are formed, ideas are tested, and the future of culture is quietly negotiated one page at a time.”The series blends emotionally grounded character comedy with improvised chaos, where every member of the club represents a completely different worldview and walk of life. During the season, the club is forced to relocate to a new venue due to its own dysfunction, transforming the setting into an evolving reflection of the group's emotional state. Among the graphic novels and prose the group will be reviewing in its first months include Fourth Wing, Ministry Of Time, Project Hail Mary and Absolute Batman, as well as GUNGNIR titles Aeon, Existence Equation, Last Breeds and Deadweight. What can a singing bird, a neighborhood walk, and a pair of puppet adventurers teach us about awe? Sit down with Wowsabout! creators Dorien Davies and Halle Stanford to discuss helping kids—and grownups—find wonder wherever they are.Summary: Kids may be natural wonder-seekers, but how do we help them hold onto that sense of awe as they grow up? On this episode of The Science of Happiness, we talk with Wowsabout! creators Dorien Davies and Halle Stanford about creating a PBS Kids special inspired by awe, the science behind wonder, and why small moments—a bird singing at dawn, a blooming jasmine vine, or a walk around the block—can help us feel more connected to ourselves and the world around us. Together, they explore how cultivating awe can foster curiosity, resilience, creativity, and belonging for children and adults alike. How To Do This Practice: Slow down and set an intention: Pause your usual routine and decide to look for something that inspires wonder. Notice what you feel: Tune into physical sensations, like the warmth of the sun, a cool breeze, or your feet touching the ground. Look closely at your surroundings: Pay attention to colors, shapes, textures, or movement that you might normally overlook. Listen with curiosity: Notice the sounds around you—the birds, the wind, distant voices, or the hum of your neighborhood. Follow what captures your attention: If something sparks your interest or amazement, spend a moment with it instead of rushing on. Reflect on your experience: At the end of your walk, consider what surprised you and how it made you feel more connected to the world around you.
