Check out today's questions: Heather: Hi, me again! I also had a quick question about the natural flavors listed on the ingredient list for the Daily Fruit and Vegetable powder. What is it? I was under the impression that natural flavors are just another word for artificial flavors but I doubt you would put that in any of your products. Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions! Amal: Hi Dr Cabral, I've been diagnosed with an inflammatory eye condition called Uveitis in my left eye. Doctors have not looked into what's causing it but I think it is autoimmune. I also seem to have something called lipedema. Everytime I try to detox my body, it will accelerate the inflammation in my eye, causing further damage to the eye. I tried to take iodine and it would help my eye but cause me to rapid fat gain everywhere. I then tried N acetyl cysteine and the same rapid weight gain but it would lower inflammation in the eye and clear my vision. Then I tried chlorella and spirulina and I would feel coolness in my eyes in 10 mins and it would clear my floaters, inflammation and improve vision. However I will gain a lot of body fat within 2 days of taking the chlorella & spirulina. I came across gynostemma herbal tea and I started losing weight within days but my eye would start hurting and I could also feel weakness in my right eye. I'm not sure what to do. I cant lose the weight without hurting my eye and I can't detox my liver or the rest of my body without gaining weight. My hair has become damaged and dry and I have developed a lot of cellulite on my legs and excess fat around my ankles and everywhere else. I am trying to work on gut health Any advice would be helpful. Alicja: Hi Dr. Cabral, I would love to get your opinion about inducing period with prescription drugs. I lost my periods a while ago, but I'm only 38 so probably too early to be menopausal. 4 years ago I was pregnant and then was breastfeeding my baby for a while. It's been about 2 years since I stopped breastfeeding, but my cycles don't want to return. After having my baby I developed gut issues. Later I also found out I have hypothyroidism and Hashimoto. I've been addressing both. Overall I feel now much better and stronger comparing to where I was a year ago (thanks to moving to a new house and thanks to your protocols. I've done para pro and currently I'm in the muddle of CBO protocol) I should mention that I am underweight (BMI: 16.2) Since I've been feeling better recently, do you think I could now "induce" my period with a medication? Or do you think I should still wait longer until my body decides it's time. I'm not sure if it's good for me to be that long without cycles. I often hear from other women that once first period is induced, next ones come on their own. I tried Vitex in the past but stopped because I didn't feel well taking it. You are a blessing to all of us and are greatly appreciated!!!….. So, my son is 7 years old and was diagnosed with Methylmalonic Acidemia on his newborn screening. His body can not properly break down protein. And he will have to be more of a vegetarian. But the problem is that he has always been a super picky and doesn't like vegetables. Since he started eating solids the doctors told me to feed him what he will eat. (With his condition he can't go a day without eating or he can go into a metabolic crisis). I have tried almost everything to get him to eat vegetables and he wants nothing to do with it. What can I do to get him to eat healthier? My question is regardinga recently discovered receding gum line on several teeth. I am 25 and do not have a history of dental issues (I had a root canal in high school, but that's about it), though I do have chronic pain and a number of other random problems that I have been working through for a decade now. It was a bit of an alarming discovery, and I have been scouring the Internet attempting to discern how I might have caused this. What would be your primary recommendations to keep this from getting worse/improve it if that is at all possible? Mallory: Hi Dr Cabral! I submitted a question a couple of months ago about mold/fungus in my sinuses, and your answer helped me so much! Thank you! I had a couple of follow-up questions. I've struggled with mold / fungal / bacteria overgrowth since I was a child (I had 4 sinus surgeries & was on almost constant antibiotics from the age of 4 to 12). I am 28 years old and am just now getting treatment for the root cause. Ochatroxin A was at 25 when last tested in Feb. Are you able to help me have an idea as to how long I may be detoxing for? I would love to start a family soon but I am currently seeing biofilm in my stool & urine every day, and have been for almost a year. I have pain in my lungs and anxiety while detoxing. I was strict with my diet for 2 months, but as I begin to introduce more foods, I feel pretty poor. My husband and I moved out of our 110 year old home that had visible mold to a 10 year old house. We did get the new house mold tested, and they assured us the house was mold free. We have since found small amounts of mold in the pantry and kitchen. We also brought some things over from the old house that could had mold spores in them, such as clothing. Should we get rid of that clothing? Are small amounts of mold spores okay if we have a good air purifier? If so, why are dry and astrigent foods usually recommended for pitta imbalance such as beans not recommended when you have histamine intolerance. I understand that these food lists should not be taken at face value and there is a lot more complexity to Ayurveda in general so I would love your input on it. I received my Food Sensitivity test and was surprised to see that green tea, mushrooms, and a few other foods I have been incorporating more recently showed up. I had taken the test a few years back, and none of these foods showed up for me. My coach did mention that some foods eaten frequently may show up, and I'm wondering the science behind this - is this a truly inflammatory response to these foods? I did find some research dispelling IgG testing (e.g. AAAAI) noting the presence of IgG is likely a normal response of the immune system to exposure to food. Wondering your perspective on this. 2. I also recently completed the Big 5 and have completed a 14-Day Detox, Parasite Protocol, and on to the Heavy Metal Detox amongst other supplements recommended to balance out my hormones, thyroid, and gut dysbiosis. Though there were no parasites detected, I have had an anal itch for the past 8 months, and have had very low libido along with recurring UTI and yeast infection-like symptoms. Have tested negative for 2 parasite tests, UTI tests, and STI tests as well. Wondering if you have any guidance on what this might be. Thank you! Paula: Hi doc! Hope you and your family are great! FF: Every Mom Should Be Doing This Exercise It’s all in the hips! Many women, especially moms should be familiar with Kegel exercises. When you’re pregnant, they’re recommended to help make your pelvic floor muscle stronger, which helps with labor and delivery. But performing these exercises shouldn’t stop after we have a child. If you ignore your pelvic floor it can get weak, which leads to serious health issues such as the inability to control your bowels or bladder. The good news - there are simple and quick exercises you can do anytime and anywhere. Welcome back to our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend and I hope you were able to tune into yesterday's 6 community questions! We had a great Q&A session and I'm looking forward to sharing more with you today with these brand new questions: Mariellen: Dr Cabral, you have always helped me in finding answers to my health issues and I am on a journey to getting better. I am not writing in for myself. I have a friend who for years has had what I would say are seizures. She has crashed her car before, been on vacation far from home and had this happen. There seems to be no common factor in these episodes. When she was on vacation she had a wild dream about a ton of spiders and woke up and her fiancé found her seizing and she always throws up after and sometimes pees herself as well. Out to dinner, she became unconscious, no seizing (which she said sometimes happens) and this was the only event where this has happened where she has had alcohol in her system but she literally became limp and was completely out for a minute or possibly longer and was sweating perfusely and began to vomit minutes later. We had just finished dinner and she was drinking water along with her dinner. She is a hairdresser and yesterday had mentioned she did a wedding and barely ate anything all day. She always feels completely exhausted after. Sometimes there is seizing and sometimes, there is not. No one will give her answer. She once had her stitches taken out and had a seizure. Anything would be helpful. Thank you In addition to my other question just wanted to add on that she smokes marijuana and in the vacation case, she hadn't smoked for 4 days and had one and yesterday was the first day she hadn't smoked in awhile. The doctors will not diagnosis her with epilepsy because whatever test they ran came back negative and they say what she has are not seizures. Any advice would help. Josie: Dear Doctor Cabral, I've been listening to all of your podcasts and learning soooo much. I really enjoy listening. I am currently working on improving my own health, but my mother's health is very worrisome. These are a list of her major conditions. I was hoping you would have some ideas on a place for my mother to start. Primary liver sclerosis, State 3 liver disease Colitis Crohn's UC Diverticulitis Autoimmune Hepatitis IBD Hiatal hernia Osteoporosis Hepatocellular She has had part of her bowels removed 7 years ago. She gets esophageal varices because of her liver disease. She experiences abdominal pain, spasms, bloating, extreme fatigue. My mother is on a LOT of meds for her illnesses, but she is only 58! She has been on antibiotics for about 2 years. I hate that she is on them, but the doctors have had her on them since she had septic shock and acute renal failure in 2015. I would like to encourage her to strengthen her liver. We have listened her your podcasts and learned that low fat diets are good for your liver. I'm trying to get her to drop gluton and sugar, and start drinking warm water. She already enjoys water with lemon, but I'd like to leave her with more. Would you think that starting there is sufficient or might you have more recommendations? Thank you, thank you, thank you for all you do, Josie Cara: Hi Dr. Cabral, First and foremost, I found your podcast a couple of months ago and I have been listening to you nonstop as I love learning about optimal health and nutrition. I value all of the hard work you do especially because it is derived from your own struggle and quest now to serve others. Recent History: I had a crash cesarean 21 months ago. I ended up with a very rare condition called velamentous cord insertion. My daughter arrived at 36 weeks 2 days (after a healthy pregnancy - no red flags) she lost a tremendous amount of blood before delivery, required intubation, 2 blood transfusions and was almost immediately transported via ambulance to CHOC where she was cooled to 91 degrees for 72 hours. She survived and thrived, no stroke no seizure, no developmental delays. We now share our story on behalf of CHOC at fundraisers and have contributed to the new NICU they just completed building. We have been able to serve others through our trauma. We eat paleo-ish, always organic / free-range / pastured / no gluten. I did start incorporating raw goat dairy a few months ago. I have one cup of coffee a day, usually half caffeine. I do yoga/pilates and with a toddler and two businesses I'd say my stress level is moderate. I wanted to clean up my system after having surgery and antibiotics. At 12 months postpartum (last November - January) I did a very in-depth 12 week gut thrive program. It started with an anti-inflammatory diet and moved into a pathogen purge, followed up my a reseeding phase. The clinical nutritionist is very similar to you in most ways with her philosophies and practices. The program included things like proteolytic enzymes, digestive enzymes, biocidin, atak, mors, diamateceaus earth+clay, triphala, Pure encapuslations/Orthomolecular high quality supplements, coffee enemas and probiotic enemas, heavy hitting oral probiotics, etc. I had to do the pathogen purge at 1/2 dose because I was still nursing. My husband and I did preconception work with our nutrition before I got pregnant with my daughter. I took a couple of different prenatals throughout: Innate, New Chapter, Garden of Life. Around 10 months postpartum I had lab work that confirmed I was low in D / K / B's and tested positive for MTHFR 1298C mutation. After finding this out, I switched to Seeking Health Prenatal which is high in methylated B's. I am now taking Orthomolecular prenatal. I am also taking your Daily Fruit and Vegetable powder and I just started trying your Nutritional support protein. Currently, I am still breastfeeding during the day. (we night weaned 3 months ago) I have had 3 menstrual cycles starting at 17 1/2 months postpartum and they have been irregular...roughly 40-45 days. I just had my annual blood work ran with a functional medicine doctor here in California although, he was not very thorough and still seemed to be on that 15 minute time allotment. Cholesterol was good. Total: 178 / HDL: 77 / LDL: 93 Triglycerides: 42 He said my D was low, but it read 53.4 so that should be good. Low in B's B12: 17 / Folate: 37 / Pantothenate: 9 Low in Vitamin C: 48 Thyroid: Free T4: 1.18 Free T3: 2.4 Reverse T3: 13.4 Thyroid peroxidase antibodies:
