"If it's a true call from God to become a priest, you're not gonna be able to shake it. He's gonna keep coming for you." Fr. David Kidd, Director of Diocesan Priestly Vocations for the Diocese of Toledo, joins Men of the Hearts hosts Fr. Craig Giera and Fr. Drew Mabee to talk about his journey to the priesthood. Looking back, he realizes God started preparing him for the priesthood when he was an altar server in childhood, but his path detoured through college, dating, and a deployment overseas before finally leading him to the doorstep of the Pontifical College Josephinum seminary in Columbus. He shares how five years studying in Rome opened his eyes to the universality and longevity of our faith and offers his advice to men discerning the call to priesthood in their own lives.(0:27) Hosts Fr. Craig Giera and Fr. Drew Mabee introduce their guest this month, Fr. David Kidd, Director of Diocesan Priestly Vocations for the Diocese of Toledo. Fr. Drew kicks off the episode by sharing that his parish recently finished The Rescue Project with the community's young adults, spending a few weeks in small groups “unpacking the Lordship of Jesus.” Fr. David then shares some recent blessings in his life. (10:52) Fr. Drew shares some recent events at his parish, including Lenten penance services, Alpha gatherings, and Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger's installation as Archbishop of Detroit. Fr. Craig hosted a discernment weekend attended by men from the Archdiocese of Detroit as well as other nearby dioceses, while also working on an art project he plans to submit to Divine Child High School's upcoming art show.(16:45) Fr. Craig asks for Fr. David's vocation story. Fr. David is the oldest of four children and grew up in Lima, Ohio. He reflects on his experience as an altar server, through which he says God began preparing him for the life of a priest. He first considered the priesthood in senior year of high school, after visiting the Pontifical College Josephinum seminary in Columbus. He became more serious about his discernment in college, shortly before being deployed to Kuwait with the National Guard. (27:49) While in Kuwait, Fr. David regularly attended Mass on base, where a chaplain sensed his possible vocation to the priesthood. While home on R&R, Fr. David finally met with the vocations director and submitted an application to seminary just two days before returning overseas. (37:56) After Fr. David received his Bachelor's in Philosophy in Columbus, his bishop invited him to further his studies at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, Italy. He recalls getting a strong sense of the universal Church sharing classes with students from all over the world. He also remembers being in awe visiting churches older than the United States: “People have been living and dying for this faith for a long time.” (50:05) While Fr. David never seriously doubted his vocation during his five years in Rome, he did struggle being away from family without regular visits for so long. This challenge helped him develop his relationship with God, trusting in Him and in His plan—leaning on God rather than on his own abilities. He then offers his advice to men discerning the priesthood: take small steps in your discernment, like developing good prayer habits, getting a spiritual director, visiting a seminary, going on retreat, reading spiritual books, and journaling. “All those little steps along the way bring clarity.”(57:48) Fr. Craig thanks Fr. David for joining, and Fr. David closes the episode with a prayer.
Our exit today has us hanging out with fashion models and trying to get our big break in the Cape Cod League. This week, we are talking about two films starring one of the true all stars of A Tripp Through Comedy: Freddie Prinze, Jr. First, we will talk about Head Over Heels, written by John J. Strauss, Ed Decter and David Kidd and directed by Mark Waters. Next, we will talk about Summer Catch, written by Kevin Falls and John Gatins and directed by Michael Tollin. Both films have Freddie Prinze Jr. involved in a romantic situation while trying to advance his career (sort of). They also did not make much noise at the box office. Along the way, we discuss some creepy subplots, Brian Dennehy, Bruce Davison, fake New York City, fake Cape Cod, our love of baseball, Rear Window, some questionable romances, and podcast regular Matthew Lillard. And Ross reads from Wikipedia lists. This week as we enter the Year of the Snake, Sinica co-founder Jeremy Goldkorn makes a re-appearance on the show. It's been a year since his last, and much has changed — and indeed, if Jeremy is right, we may be at an inflection point in American attitudes toward China. With the "TikTok Refugees" on Xiaohongshu or "RedNote" taking in a view of China that contrasts starkly with the image presented by the U.S. Government and by many American media outlets, and with DeepSeek now having upended some ideas about American tech primacy, the "vibes" on China among young people seem to have changed for the better. Will it endure? Jeremy and I plunge into that question on this week's episode of the Sinica Podcast.2:55 – What Jeremy has been up to lately 4:19 – What has been driving the recent narrative/vibe shift in China discourse in the U.S., and why human rights rhetoric around Xinjiang has died down 14:11 – Whether the narrative/vibe shift will be long-lasting and the role of young people in driving it 23:06 – Predictions for future changes within China29:40 – The concern that the narrative/vibe shift could go too far, or that the copium will overwhelm the positive of the shift 33:24 – Previous narrative shifts around freedom of speech, the internet, and China, and technological innovation 43:57 – What recent developments reveal about Chinese soft power, and Jeremy's predictions for how everything will play out 49:34 – Whether the narrative/vibe shift will change how American politicians talk about China, and the Chinese government has reacted to the shift so farPaying It Forward: Savannah Billman's Career China email newsletter Recommendations:Jeremy: Paul Cooper's Fall of Civilizations podcast series; David Kidd's Peking Story: The Last Days of Old China; and The 404's podcast interview with a PornHub exec (which includes discussion of real-name registration requirements) Kaiser: The TV miniseries American Primeval (2025) on Netflix; and Paul Triolo's Substack See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This episode of the Getting Smart Podcast is a part of our New Pathways campaign. In partnership with American Student Assistance® (ASA), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Stand Together and the Walton Foundation, the New Pathways campaign will question education's status quo and propose new methods of giving students a chance to experience success in what's next. On this Getting Smart Town Hall we took a look at a number of organizations and technologies that enable powerful badging and credentialing opportunities to help students share their stories, their learning and their priorities. Credentialing is the new way to communicate capabilities and provides more reliable and precise capability signaling than courses and grades. We'll explore the secondary and postsecondary learning and employment ecosystems where credentialing is emerging, how it complements skills-based hiring, and the implications for learner records. We were joined by Project Director of Project Zero, David Kidd as well as Director of Product Management at XQ, Rachel Safferstone. These two guests are doing incredible work in the space of credentialing and badging and both the vision and the experience to help us better understand the broader landscape. As we kick off Season 2 of The Fire Pit Podcast, just a short reflection on where we’ve been since March, 2020, which is when, while in quarantine, we hatched the idea of this podcast. Our first, which aired on what would’ve been Masters Sunday of last year, was the story of how and why John Ashworth caddied at the ’86 Masters for his childhood friend, Mark Wiebe. One interview led to the next, Zoom calling with Nicklaus, Griffey Jr., Walter Iooss, Fred Couples, Jim Nantz, Ben Crenshaw, Bill Coore, Mike Keiser, David Kidd and so many more, and here we are again, with an expanded Fire Pit Collective but the same objective, which is to tell compelling stories. As for the story we tell today—a trip to LaTrobe to sit with The King—it’s one of my favorites, but it’s bittersweet. The events that took place U.S. Open week at Oakmont in 2016 which afforded Gary Williams, Damon Hack and I to not only have lunch with Arnold Palmer, but to get time with him in his office, now all seems like a dream. What you’ll hear is that story. And you’ll listen to phone footage from that day that I’ve only shared with a select few in small settings. Plus, Gary Williams, Damon Hack, Doc Giffin and Bob Ford will add their perspectives. Not to mention Arnold Palmer, who tells his Roger Maris story one more time. Partial Transcript“Welcome to the Books on Asia podcast, I’m your host, Amy Chavez, and today we have with us Alex Kerr who is going to talk with me about his newly published book Finding the Heart Sutra: Guided by a Magician, an Art Collector and Buddhist Sages from Tibet to Japan. (Allen Lane, Penguin U.K. Nov. 26, 2020)."Amy: Your book "Finding the Heart Sutra" is coming out this week, congratulations!Alex Kerr: This book is a result of 40 years of what's basically been an obsession with the subject. I did the calligraphy on the cover as well as the kanji throughout the book. Calligraphy is another obsession of mine since I was a boy of nine, and calligraphy is key to the Heart Sutra. Millions of people in Japan, China and other parts of Asia, chant the Heart Sutra, but you can also write it. Writing it, called shakyo— copying the Heart Sutra by hand—is the traditional way to gain merit. So calligraphy has been associated with the Heart Sutra from day one.Amy: What moved you to write a book about about the Heart Sutra?Kerr: The subject is the emptiness of life - the deepest subject that there is. Also, part of it is the fascination with the brevity of the sutra. It's really short. It's roughly 50 lines. You can recite the whole thing in a minute which means it's compressed, intense, kanji by kanji, line by line. Universes of Buddhist thought are compressed into mere phrases in the Heart Sutra. I call these jewel phrases. The more you learn about the sutra, the deeper you can go. There's a story in it as it moves from start to finish, and there's also this incredible depth. Many of the words have been discussed at length by commentators, but I found to my surprise others that hadn’t been talked about at all because they seemed obvious.Amy: Can you talk about how the Heart Sutra relates to Japanese culture?Kerr: The Heart Sutra has gone really deep into Japanese culture. Especially the famous lines "The material world is itself emptiness. Emptiness is itself the material world." All the Japanese know that phrase. When they hear it in kabuki, they get it immediately. You hear it quoted on television; it’s printed on fans, neckties, Evanescence, impermanence, that's maybe the biggest subject of Japanese literature. Those things arise from Buddhism in general, but you feel them most intensely in the Heart Sutra. Because it was so short, something everyone knew, it has infused literature, gardens, sculpture, all of those things have the Heart Sutra in them.MoreIf you'd like a primer on the author's mentor David Kidd, read Books on Asia's previous interview with Alex Kerr about mentors here.Other Books by Alex KerrLost JapanDogs and DemonsAnother Kyoto (w/Kathy Arlyn Sokol)(Upcoming) Japanese Pilgrimage (in Japanese)(Upcoming) Another Bangkok
Part 2 picks up on May 1st, 1999 on the eve of Bandon Dunes opening for business. I’m not even sure Mike Keiser could’ve dreamed something as big as what Bandon has become. We hear from Bandon's original caddy master, Shoe, and the local barber, Mick Peters, who has hit the first tee shot on every course at Bandon, as well as reflections from Mike Keiser, David Kidd, Josh Lesnik, Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw as we also celebrate the opening of the Sheep Ranch, their third course on property. If you follow us on Twitter you know that we’re reviewing All The Emperor’s Horses in one episode. And you know that this read is also found under the title Peking Story, which is the newer version with a chapter added at the end, which was written years after the original story was told. Intrigued? You should be! The Emperor’s Horses is the story of a young American teaching and studying in China. He marries into the aristocratic Yu family, and into the family mansion and gardens, which are characters in this book just as much as any of the people written about here. The year is 1949, and Peking has just surrendered to the Communist army. Our author, David Kidd, marries Aimee Yu in a rushed ceremony, which is charmingly and humorously written, and we follow along as the Yu family fortune, and ancient China’s culture and civilization are dismantled. This book is funny and heartbreaking, and will give you an understanding of how devastating it was to watch a 4,000 year old empire and all its tradition and beauty crumble. David Kidd had a certain Bowie-like flair for style, both in his appearance and in his art. His observations and descriptions of people (and what they wore) and places are wonderful! This was, on multiple levels, a beautiful read.

Un día, unos hombres vienen buscando al toro más grande, rápido y bravo... y Ferdinand es elegido equivocadamente para las corridas de toros de Madrid.
We typically split our reads in half and record two episodes per book here on the pod, but Billy Liar by Keith Waterhouse was such a quick read that we felt one episode would do the job. The story is in the title, Billy is a liar. He’s a 19 year old who is living at home with his parents and grandmother, working at a job he hates, dreaming of being a comedy writer. Even though this book was published in 1959, it sounds like your typical kid of today. But, the thing that sets Billy apart is that he just can’t tell the truth. To anyone. About anything. And eventually, he gets found out. He finds his own life so mundane and so miserable that he escapes to a world he’s created in his mind, and he does so quite often. He even has two types of thinking, once that’s factual and one that’s pure fantasy. Will Billy finally be true to his family? Will he finally be true to either of his fiancés? Will he finally be true to the girl he loves (not a fiancé, by the way)? Will he finally be true to himself? Listen to the pod, and find out! Oh! And April found a brilliant Bowie song to pair with this book! It’s perfect! And we are almost certain that Bowie had this book in mind when he wrote it. What song, you ask? Have a listen, and let us know what you think! ………………………………………………… P.S. As Halloween approaches, suddenly Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve all come in rapid succession. This is our last episode of the year! Thank you so much for listening and being a part of our book club. We are having so much fun making our way through Bowie’s reading list, and we hope you are too! We’ll be back with a new episode featuring All The Emperor’s Horses by David Kidd on January 7th! Until then, we hope you have a wonderful holiday season!

Show #562 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 26th August 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. Someone else from Patreon to thank, DAVID KIDD is now a PRODUCER PRODUCTION OF TESLA MODEL 3 IN GIGAFACTORY 3 IN CHINA HAS BEGUN "A new set of images and videos were recently leaked online showing that the Tesla Model 3 has already entered the production phase. The leaked details reveal that the big T is now making the necessary preparations for the trial production runs of the Tesla Model 3 in Gigafactory 3." according to BusinessTimes.cn: "Significantly, the leaked photos reveal images of a couple of partly-built Tesla Model 3 in the assembly line. We have no information if the panels of the two sedans were made on-site or if the electric vehicles were only assembled from shipped components. But, it still goes to show that Gigafactory 3 is now operational and seems to be starting trial assemblies for the Tesla Model 3." https://en.businesstimes.cn/articles/117766/20190827/production-of-tesla-model-3-in-gigafactory-3-in-china-has-begun.htm EUROPE PLUG-IN SALES FOR 2019 H1 "Plug-in vehicle sales in Europe reached 259 000 units in the first half of 2019, 34 % higher than for 2018 H1. These include all Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrids (PHEV) in EU and EFTA countries, passenger cars and light commercial vehicles." reports Roland Irle, EV-volumes.com: "Demand and supply experiences a profound shift towards pure electric vehicles (BEV). While their share in plug-in sales was 51 % for 2018 H1, it has increased to 68 % for 2019 H1. The change reflects the introduction of the more stringent WLTP for fuel economy ratings, changes in taxation/grants promoting more BEV uptake and better supply of long-range BEVs. Germany and the Netherlands were the strongest growth contributors, in terms of volumes. Germany has become the largest market for plug-ins in Europe, displacing Norway to the #2 position for the first time. Norway is still the word leader in EV uptake, with a share of 47 % in this year's light vehicle sales, up 10 %-points from 2018 H1." And it pains me to say: "Among the top-15 markets, UK is the only one in reverse this year. PHEVs lost their subsidies and BEV get 1000 GBP less than last year. The UK plans to set the BIK (Benefit In Kind) for company car taxation to zero for BEVs, starting in April 2020. This will postpone many BEV purchases to next year in the UK. Meanwhile, neighbour Ireland has become the fastest growing plug-in market in Europe." Why is BIK at 0% such a big deal? "If you have a company car which is made available for private use (i.e you take it home in the evenings and at weekends), the taxman will apply a benefit-in-kind value to the vehicle. To work out the BIK value of a company car, you multiply the car’s P11D value by the percentage banding the car sits in." Example, a car costs £40,000, it emits 125g/CO2 per km, and is therefore in band 30%, that's £12,000. You then take £12,000 and multiply it by your personal tax band, if you pay 40% tax, then you're paying £4800 every year to the taxman for the privilege of taking that car home at night. Oh and there's an extra 4% tax for diesel. And it gets better, because for EV's only: "the cost of the car could be deducted from the salary pre-tax to pay for a vehicle on the scheme, with the employee effectively paying tax only on the BIK charge." http://www.ev-volumes.com/ https://www.parkers.co.uk/company-cars/what-is-bik/ 2020 CHEVY BOLT IS U.S.’ MOST AFFORDABLE EV PER MILE OF RANGE "After Chevrolet announced the 2020 Bolt EV range and price at 259 miles (417 km) and $37,495 (including $875 destination fee), it now has the lowest price (MSRP + destination charge) per mile of EPA range. The 2020 Bolt EV is #1 at $145 per mile, which is $2 less than the Hyundai Kona Electric and $13 less than the previous 2019 model year Bolt EV." says InsideEVs: "Chevrolet intends to start selling the 2020 Bolt EV this year, but it's rather unlikely we'll see it in Q3, which means we should stick with $135 per mile because that accounts for an extra $1,875 Federal Tax Credit. Of course, another thing is the real world price per mile, after including all the discounts from manufacturer and dealers, but that's untraceable." https://insideevs.com/news/366829/chevrolet-bolt-most-affordable-evs-per-mile/ PORSCHE TAYCAN CROWNED FASTEST FOUR-DOOR EV AT THE NURBURGRING "Porsche is once again demonstrating the performance benefits to embracing electrification with the upcoming Taycan. Ditching the combustion engine altogether, the pure electric vehicle has set a new record for four-door EVs at the Nürburgring by lapping the famous German circuit in 7 minutes and 42 seconds." according to Motor1.com: "Porsche specifies the vehicle used for the record-breaking run was the range-topping variant with dual electric motors, one for each axle. Equipped with all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering, the EV riding on 21-inch wheels offered more than 600 horsepower at the driver’s disposal." https://www.motor1.com/news/367076/taycan-four-door-ev-nurburgring-record/ VOLKSWAGEN ID 4X SPY SHOTS REVEAL CROZZ "The model that’s leading Volkswagen’s electric-car push—and what Volkswagen has called the replacement for the e-Golf, the city-focused ID 3 hatchback, isn’t coming to America." says Bengt for Green Car Reports: "the U.S. will be getting the second model, a rugged-themed, somewhat taller crossover hatchback based on the ID Crozz concept from 2017. Size-wise, it’s one of the most popular segments of the market, comparable to the Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4, or Honda CR-V—or the Tesla Model Y. While the ID 3 will offer three different battery packs—48, 62, and 82 kwh (45, 58, and 77 kwh usable capacity)—we expect only the top two to be offered in the ID 4X. U.S. rated range has not been estimated as of yet, but both will have 100-kw CCS DC fast charging." https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1124726_volkswagen-id-4x-spy-shots-reveal-production-direction-for-crozz-electric-crossover NIU PLANS NEW AFFORDABLE ELECTRIC MOPED BRAND GOVA STARTING AT AROUND $422 "NIU sold nearly 100,000 electric scooters worldwide last quarter, has expanded its sharing programs into over a dozen countries including the United States, and has shown Q2 revenue of US $74.8 million with a year-over-year growth of 38%." reports Micah Toll for electrek: "While NIU’s high-tech, connected scooters are firmly planted in the premium electric scooter category, the company also wants to target the medium-level scooter market. To do so, the company is at work on three different mid-range electric scooters for its new Gova line: The Gova G1, Gova G3, and Gova G5. NIU expects the G1 to debut in the price range of US $422-$563. To reach such low prices, the Gova line won’t contain many of the smart features that make NIU’s main line of electric scooters so connected." https://electrek.co/2019/08/25/niu-gova-electric-moped-scooter/ TESLA SCOUTING NEW FACTORY LOCATIONS IN GERMANY "German newspaper Rheinische Post reported on August 25 that representatives from Tesla have been scouting locations for a possible European factory in the state of North Rhine–Westphalia, which is located in western Germany and shares a border with the Netherlands and Belgium" says CleanTechnica today: "Representatives of the government and of Tesla have declined to elaborate further on the subject." https://cleantechnica.com/2019/08/26/tesla-scouting-new-factory-locations-in-germany/ BOLLINGER'S BOXYLICIOUS OFF-ROADING EVS WILL BREAK COVER ON SEPTEMBER 26 "New York-based Bollinger Motors once looked like it would beat automakers big and small to the electric off-roader segment. Rival Rivian stole its thunder by presenting two head-turning concept cars during the 2018 Los Angeles auto show, but Bollinger is ready for a tussle. It's fine-tuning its first prototypes, and it will present them to the public on September 26." writes Autoblog: "The truck depicted in the 50-second long clip is only partially assembled, but we can tell it hasn't changed much visually in its transition from a .jpg to a test mule. It still looks like a retro-inspired, cinder block-shaped Jeep Wrangler-Land Rover Defender cross packed with clever features, including a pass-through that stretches from the frunk to the trunk, six individual removable roof panels, and lots of storage compartments." https://www.autoblog.com/2019/08/26/bollinger-motors-electric-b1-suv-b2-truck-unveiling-scheduled/ QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week. Hello, and a warm welcome to episode 7. Today, sit back, relax and enjoy the dulcet tones of The Homeless Network's very own David Kidd. David joined me, to put into some sort of context, the recent changes in how homelessness is now being dealt with in Glasgow and other cities throughout Scotland with the introduction of Housing First. This is something that will directly affect what The ARCH currently works toward and will have an adverse affect when funding cuts come into play later this year. Here, David explains how the new system will work and what the likelihood of success will be. This episode is different from previous episodes and although David touches on his own time experiencing homelessness that is not the main topic of this episode. His past experience is invaluable in his future career choice and enables him to have a unique insight into the plight of those experiencing homelessness. Through his work with Glasgow Homelessness Involvement and Feedback Team (GHIFT) David and his posse of those with lived experience, have helped forge the future direction for homeless provision in the city; for the good or for the bad. No doubt, time will tell. We get to hear about David's own private world as a music mixer and all round music guru. Check him out (dddm) on Soundcloud. If you enjoyed or you have issues with this episode then please let your feelings known to us/David via social media. You can contact David via the email address he gives out in the episode or via Twitter or, you can do the same with us at The ARCH (see below). If you have been affected by the issues discussed in this episode, or on previous episodes, and require help and support, then please get in touch by emailing us or messaging us on our social media sites and staff will help or signpost you towards the support you need. If you would like to sponsor the show or sponsor a flat/pillows/bedding/furniture packs/support in order we can help other homeless men, you can donate by going to https://www.scottishchristianalliance.org.uk and hitting that donate button. We are building up various ways in which people can sponsor/donate/give over the coming weeks. We have been asked what the best way to give is and we suggest to do it via our web site. You can also donate at our Facebook page @TheARCHRS or contact us directly by email or telephone. Please consider donating as we are a charity (SC021765) and are in need of funds to continue with the excellent work we do here. It is a privilege to work with so many brilliant characters; no two days are the same. Show #460 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 1st May 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today to save you time. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. Welcome to two new Patrons of the podcast today. Firstly hello to David Kidd who just became a patron. and MARLIN SCHELL is a new EXECUTIVE PRODUCER of the podcast. TESLA MODEL 3 ON SALE IN UK "After a long wait, UK customers can now place their orders for the Tesla Model 3 — for June delivery. Prices for the Standard Range Plus, which includes Autopilot, starts at £39,850 (on-the-road price, after incentives). . UK vehicles are priced including delivery charges and document fees (as well as taxes, etc.), so the £39,850 is the final price that owners will pay to be “on the road.” This also already includes the £3,500 UK “Plug-In Car Grant.” says CleanTechnica: "Compared to the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus, the closest BMW 3 Series in basic power and on-paper performance is likely the 330i M Sport Gran Turismo, with acceleration to 62 mph taking 6.1 seconds (compared to the Tesla’s 0–60 mph in 5.3 seconds). The price of this BMW in the UK — with a level of optional equipment to bring the driver assistance features closer to those in the Tesla — starts at £42,505. That’s an upfront price £2,655 more expensive than the Tesla." https://cleantechnica.com/2019/05/01/tesla-model-3-hits-the-uk-in-june-starting-at-39850-crushes-bmw-equivalent-on-price-tco/ https://cleantechnica.com/2019/05/01/tesla-model-3-hits-the-uk-in-june-starting-at-39850-crushes-bmw-equivalent-on-price-tco/ TESLA LAUNCHES CHEAPER MODEL 3 WITH 150KM RANGE IN CANADA TO GET $5,000 INCENTIVE “Due to pricing restrictions, Tesla’s vehicles didn’t get access to Canada’s new $5,000 federal incentive for electric vehicles, but the automaker has now launched a new and cheaper Model 3 with a software-locked range of just 150 km (93 miles) in Canada to get access to the discount." writes Fred at Electrek today: "By making the new base Model 3 available, which again is only through calling or visiting a Tesla store to order, Tesla also made the regular Model 3 Standard Range Plus with 386 km (240 miles) of range eligible for the incentive since it is technically an option on the same car that starts below $45,000 and doesn’t go over $55,000." https://electrek.co/2019/05/01/tesla-cheaper-model-3-canada-incentive/ Audi E-tron electric SUV gets discounts just as it goes on sale "Just as the 2019 E-tron SUV starts arriving at dealerships, Audi is already offering big discounts on them." says Green Car Reports: "The biggest incentive so far is 1.9 percent financing on the E-tron for up to 66 months, which is significantly cheaper than most other models in Audi's lineup, according to our partners at CarsDirect.com. The similar-sized, gas-powered Q5 SUV only qualifies for a 3.99 percent annual percentage rate for the same 5.5 years, which is more typical in Audi's lineup." https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1122859_audi-e-tron-electric-suv-gets-discounts-just-as-it-goes-on-sale NEW 2019 VOLKSWAGEN ID. HATCH TEASED AHEAD OF PREORDER DATE "A new video previewing the upcoming Volkswagen ID. hatch has been released before order books open on May 8" says AutoExpress: "Volkswagen will start taking reservations for the electric ID. hatch in May this year, almost six months before the car is officially revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show this autumn. customers who want to be among the very first ID. owners can make a downpayment to secure an early production slot. " https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/volkswagen/97043/new-2019-volkswagen-id-hatch-teased-ahead-of-preorder-date BMW I3 PRODUCTION HITS 150,000 "BMW produced the 150,000th BMW i3 this week in Leipzig, Germany. Since 2013, the i3 is the only all-electric BMW on the market, which in the near future is going to change as more models were announced." according to Mark Kane at InsideEVs.com: "Also, so far this year, sales of the i3 are on the rise. During the first quarter BMW sold 9,227 i3, which is 16.2% more than a year ago. Who knows, maybe 40,000 per year will be possible this year." https://insideevs.com/news/347445/bmw-produced-150000-i3/ TESLA TO CUT PRICES ON SOLAR PANEL PRICES BY 38% "Tesla plans to announce on Tuesday that it has started selling solar panels and related equipment for up to 38 percent below the national average price, the New York Times reported on Tuesday." says Autoblog: "The company aims to cut the prices by standardizing systems and requiring customers order the items online, the report said. After reporting a 36 percent slide in solar installations in the first quarter, Tesla said last week that it introduced a new solar price and selling strategy without giving any specifics." https://www.autoblog.com/2019/04/30/tesla-solar-panels-price-cut/ COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Keep your comments coming in on email and YouTube… Is there a future for independent servicing in a world of EVs? This episode of Animal Instinct is for the birds! David Kidd, wildlife bird and rescue expert, is this week’s guest and he gives listeners a wealth of information about pet birds and what it takes to rescue birds in the wild. He’s got scars and stories for days – tune in and hear some fun facts about birds, rescue war stories and heart warming pet tales. Find out why birds are smarter than you might think – and why they make such interesting pets. David lives with 6 dogs and 2 birds, all rescues, in Sarasota, Florida. This program was sponsored by Brooklyn Cares Veterinary Clinic. “Birds are very smart creatures. That’s what makes them such good pets – they can bond with you pretty well. The only problem is you have to put a lot of time in with them.” [03:00] “The key when rescuing these animals is not to over-stress them. One of the best things to do is put a towel over the birds head.” [08:00] “There is no bonding with a wild animal – if they’re wild they won’t be all cuddly.. they want to tear you apart.” [11:00] –David Kidd on Animal Instinct
