As a long-time Hollywood producer, Steven Leiva has enjoyed a front seat in the film animation world, working with greats like Looney Tunes's Chuck Jones, Brad Bird, Yutaka Fujioka, Gary Kurtz and others. When animation was down and out in the late 1970's, Steven correctly predicted that animated films would become Hollywood blockbusters, but only if studios appealed to adult audiences and not just children. He was the animation producer for "Space Jam" with Michael Jordan. Steven shares inside stories about old Hollywood and the geniuses behind animation classics like Bugs Bunny, Iron Man, Japanese animation and the advent of computer generated imagery (CGI) mastered by studios like Pixar, makers of “Toy Story.” Steven is a prolific author, and shares a taste of his new comedy novel, Creature Feature, A Horrid Comedy.

Bienvenue, Lord Vador. “Don’t make me destroy you…” “That is correct commander.” “I am your father.” Oh. Mais enfin vous avez combien d'enfants ?

The way you decided what movie to go back then if you look in the newspaper to see what was playing back when we still had newspapers And they look through the paper and they couldn't find anything they wanted to say And so they decided they should make a movie like they wanna see which was going to be like a science fiction adventure movie and at first they approached universal where George had an overall deal yet".

About Gary Kurtz Gary Kurtz is a sales and marketing professional, father of three, husband to an incredible woman, and a great friend to a lot of great people (not in that order). Gary works each day to be a little bit better in each part of his life and to make life better for those around him. Gary is known for hard work, big laughs, and going all out in everything that he does.   Where do sales and marketing meet? “The difference between a salesperson and a marketing person is that a salesperson talks to customers and does more traveling. Other than that, they’re kind of meeting in the middle.”   What do you look for when interviewing new employees? “More so than ever, cultural fit, I think is more important. Are they going to be reliable? Is there integrity? Can they stand up to your company's values and also do the job?”   What are the trends in the B2B purchasing world? “The biggest trend that we're seeing in in B2B, and probably the same thing with B2C, is that there's a large, very large amount of decisions that are being made prior to anybody picking up a call. You know, people know that as soon as they are clicking on a link on something that they're going to be being followed in the nurturing campaign start.” “You see an iceberg and there's only, you know, an eighth of it that's showing out of the water, and everything underneath it is where people are making decisions now.”   Can you share with me your most successful or favorite networking story/experience that you’ve had? “I met somebody at a trade show, like seven years ago. And like a half a year later…they called me, and they asked for just a small auxiliary product that costs like $300. And like we got to talk in that time. I was kind of saying them a bunch of headaches because their immediate supplier had ran out of something. If you fast forward, you know, five years now, we've done like $3 million with that company. And it all started with a conversation at a trade show.”   How do you stay in front of or best nurture your network community? “The best thing that you can do for somebody is to reach out and just say hello every once in a while.”   What advice do you have for the professional on growing their network? “Don't stop. I would say even when you're tired, and there's that event that's happening, go to it. When you're out and you're like, ‘okay, well, maybe I'll call it an early night tonight’, go out and do it.”   Digital networking or traditional networking? “It's probably traditional, but when you're digitally networking, I think the best way to do it is to be moving towards traditional networking.”   If you could go back to your 20-year-old self, what would you tell yourself to do more or less of regarding your career? “I would save more, for sure…I would definitely say saving is one of the things that you have to do no matter what, even if you're putting away 3%.”   We’ve all heard of the 6 degrees of separation… Now, who would be the one person you’d love to connect with, and do you think you could do it within the 6th degree? “Shaq is a sales and marketing powerhouse…everything he touches, it turns to gold basically.”   What book are you reading right now? “I just started reading Rocket Fuel in the EOS stuff. And that would probably be the second thing that I would tell people if you're a young person, is that you just can't stop reading.”   Any final words of advice for our listeners? “Do something that's going to impact not only your life but other people so that they can find out who you are.”   You can get in contact with Gary at: Email: gary@howardcompany.com(link sends e-mail) LinkedIn: Click Here

Welcome to October, EarBuds!  Pass through the creaky garden gate and step cautiously as you wind your way along the weedy cobblestone path.  Once you’ve passed under the schpooky tree from whence Gramma gained her schtick, step up on the porch and open the door to our haunted house party for a month of creepy-crawly kooky fun.  Only 30 days ’til Hallowe’en!    In the NEWS Star Wars is all over the news this week as Gary Kurtz is fondly remembered by family, friends, and fans alike.  From American Graffiti to Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back to The Dark Crystal, Gary Kurtz produced many great memories of our childhood.  Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge is garnering attention as the countdown to the launch of “Star Wars Land” continues.  Luke Skywalker dons the garb of a Knight Templar in the History Channel’s Knightfall.   We Love Our Cereal… …and some cereal would be right at home in the pantry of any reputable haunted house.  In addition to the annual appearance of General Mills’ Monster Cereals, Reese’s Puffs adds some seasonal spice to its appearance with Reese’s Puffs Bats.   The Roving Spoonster keeps us updated on the cereal trademark controversy Down Under as a judgment is made in the Weet-Bix vs Weetabix conundrum plaguing Australasia in New Zealand.   October Oddity: Haunted House All month, the ‘Dads will talk about the marks of the Hallowe’en (Halloween) season with their memories of the traditional fare that can send chills up your spine and warm your heart at the same time.  This week, we dare to journey into a haunted house (or two, or three, or…) from the ‘80s when everyone paid to be afraid.  Whether your experience was in a mall or storefront location, a dilapidated old house or building, an amusement park or carnival ride, or even out in the woods, the Haunted House continues to be an iconic part of October.   TechnoRetro Arcade Atari gathered their pixels to join this haunted house party, too, with their Adventure-like maze/puzzle cartridge for the Atari 2600, Haunted House.  This game program features four floors of fun (?) for gamers who move their square eyes around in the dark to find Mr. Graves’ urn so they can escape his haunted house.  Watch out for ghosts, bats, and spiders in this confusing and challenging game from 1982.   Toys in the Attic Finally, shazbazzar and JediShua tone down the scare factor just a tad with miniature versions of the haunted house.  From the Weebles Haunted House to Colorforms Castle Dracula to Ideal’s Haunted House game and Disney’s Haunted Mansion Game, these plastic, vinyl, and cardboard toys and games are not for those easily frightened by glowing ghosts, hooting owls, or wobbly witches.  Oh, and don’t forgey Remco’s Mini-Monsters!   Thanks for tuning in to TechnoRetro Dads, EarBuds!  Don’t be afraid of missing an episode of spooky and kooky trips to the ‘70s and ‘80s — subscribe to TechoRetro Dads on iTunes or Apple Podcasts.  Don’t forget to rate and review TechnoRetro Dads on iTunes, share us and with us on social media, get TechnoRetro merch at TeePublic, and join discussions on Discord about toys, cereal, games, movies and/or shows from the ‘70s and ‘80s by giving the ‘Dads your feedback via voice mail at (209) 878-7323 or sending us your mp3dback via electronic-M to podcast@TechnoRetroDads.com. In Episode Seven, we focus on New Mexico, Arizona's Neighbor to the East. The wine in question is the 2015 Barrel Select Pinot Noir, from Gruet. Gruet Winery is one of the oldest wineries in New Mexico, specializing mostly in sparkling wines, but they have some still wines available also.    I will admit right off the bat that this wine blew me away.  Take a listen, and learn about the oldest wine producing area in the continental United States--no, seriously, it's older than California.  This wine was provided by Gary Kurtz, who acquired it from the Gruet tasting room in Albuquerque, New Mexico for this podcast.

Sean Comer and Mark Radulich put The Empire Strikes Back, On Trial! The Empire Strikes Back (also known as Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back) is a 1980 American epic space opera film directed by Irvin Kershner. Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan wrote the screenplay, with George Lucas writing the film's story and serving as executive producer. The second installment in the original Star Wars trilogy, it was produced by Gary Kurtz for Lucasfilm and stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, David Prowse, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew, and Frank Oz. The film is set three years after Star Wars. The Galactic Empire, under the leadership of the villainous Darth Vader and the Emperor, is in pursuit of Luke Skywalker and the rest of the Rebel Alliance. While Vader relentlessly pursues the small band of Luke's friends—Han Solo, Princess Leia Organa, and others—across the galaxy, Luke studies the Force under Jedi Master Yoda. When Vader captures Luke's friends, Luke must decide whether to complete his training and become a full Jedi Knight or to confront Vader and save them. Following a difficult production, The Empire Strikes Back was released on May 21, 1980. It received mixed reviews from critics initially but has since grown in esteem, becoming the most critically acclaimed chapter in the Star Wars saga; it is now widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time. The film ranks #3 on Empire's 2008 list of the 500 greatest movies of all time

Its one hell of a hot mess, with confusing plot lines, unstated character roles, and mentions to major plot hubs that never get flushed out. But its still a pretty fun ride. Somewhere in Slipstream is a good movie. There some really cool science fiction ideas, gorgeous aerial footage, questions raised about what life truly is and solid concepts about life in a post-apocalyptic world. This really could have been a movie that people respected and possibly not cost Gary Kurtz his movie career. We don't think that it ever would have been a really successful film but a good ol' muligan may have turned this into a pretty popular film. Celebration V was AMAZING. It was kind of like Comic-Con with multiple tracks of programming and tons of “celebrities”, but the difference was I wanted to see and do it ALL. My biggest disappointment was that I couldn't. However, I did do most of the things that were tops on my list. Got to see Mark Hamill and even better, the creator, the big GL . Of course we hit the Hasbro panel with its smattering of new info/confirmations. The Clone Wars panels were great. Dave Filoni really knows how to walk that line between Lucas employee/protege and fan. Probably one of my most favorite panels was Gary Kurtz , the producer of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. I find people removed from the fandom usually have the best viewpoint on the saga as they don't see everything through rose colored glasses.
