Getting Beyond the Pentecost Performance Every year, believers gather to celebrate Pentecost, dancing and shouting for the Holy Spirit's outpour, only to return to their empty spaces and dry places the very next day. In this challenging and deeply honest teaching, Pastor Terry Gainer confronts the hidden wounds, unspoken anger, and exhaustion that keep us from sustaining God's power. True revival requires us to move past performance and step into authentic preparation through corporate prayer, intentional waiting, and radical, uninhibited praise. Before we can truly experience the transformative power of the outpour, we must first confront the realities that the early disciples faced in the upper room. Pastor Terry breaks down the crucial elements of our spiritual journeys that precede a sudden move of God: -- Recognizing the Reality of Betrayal: Like the disciples dealing with the loss of Judas, we often carry the pain of those who walked beside us and turned away right before our blessing. -- Confronting Rejection and Denial: We must address the moments when we, or those closest to us, deny God's faithfulness because the immediate outcome did not look the way we planned. -- Navigating Through Chaos: Following Jesus doesn't exempt us from public spectacles or messy seasons, we must learn to trust Him even when everything around us looks like a contradiction. -- Surviving Critical Transitions: When a familiar season ends and Jesus changes how He operates in our lives, we cannot allow the discomfort of transition to dry up our spirits. -- Embracing the Discipline of Waiting: God slows things down to break our spirit of independence, forcing us to bind up our rushing and wait with active, intense anticipation for His presence. Ever think about how much of what we do as healers is more about what we don't do? Sometimes, it's in the subtle pauses, the empty spaces, where the real magic happens. What if the art of doing less is actually the key to unlocking profound change in the body?In this conversation with David White we immerse ourselves into the world of Nei Jing acupuncture. With decades of experience and a passion for classical Chinese texts, David has honed a unique approach to acupuncture, one that's rooted in precision, intention, and an unshakeable respect for the unseen forces at play in the body.Listen into this discussion as we explore acupuncture as a tool of communication, the hidden power of empty spaces, the art of needling with precise intention, and why sometimes the most effective treatments are the simplest. Along with how the Nei Jing can guide us, both practically and philosophically.
What people are saying: "A Natural History of Empty Lots" is the best and most interesting book I've ever read about the spaces we often overlook. Christopher Brown comes to these places with a deep curiosity and understanding of both human and nonhuman history. An instant classic.” Jeff VanderMeer, New York Times bestselling author."Instantly hypnotic, A Natural History of Empty Lots invites you to see the ‘waste' spaces of the Anthropocene for what they are: a resource that contains more than itself. Christopher Brown is a complete and literate denizen of these zones. His calm, clever writing shows a real care for the natural world, and a real feel for the deep worth of the brownfield liminal.” M. In the 222nd episode of The Main Street Electrical Podcast, Jenn & Dave are joined again by fan favorite Kyla, as they get their Taylor Swift on and address Disney's "Blank Spaces". First up, Jenn uncovered a treasure trove of Disney swag in her closets, while Dave is chasing some movie goals and catching up on some Disney films on his to-be-watched list. Then, the trio chats about the RUMOR (only just RUMOR) that Universal may get rid of their Marvel rights, and what Disney might do with it were they to get it. RUMOR!! Finally, Dave, Jenn, & Kyla look around the WDW Resort and address four glaringly empty (or may become empty) spots -- the old DisneyQuest building, Epcot's Wonders of Life pavilion, Hollywood Studios' Launch Bay, and the empty round theater of Stitch's Great Escape and Alien Encounter -- and do a little Blue Sky dreaming about what might go in each of those. From character meet n greet spots to Disney history walkthroughs to shows to theater shows and much more, as we let the creative juices flow. Thanks for listening!!!

No More Empty Spaces (She Writes Press, 2024) opens with Will Ross, an engineering geologist, who shares custody of his three children with his ex-wife, taking his 1953 Cessna up for a spin. It's 1973, and he's decided to take his children to a remote area of Turkey where he's been hired to analyze the site of a damn. He plans to tell the kids, once they're across the world, that they won't be going back to their alcoholic mother. The kids face the trials of learning the language, grappling with being so far away, and having a blended family. Will faces enormous problems at the building site in this lovely story centered on geology, engineering, science, landscape, and adventure. It's about how a loving family can provide balance against the emotional and physical challenges of living on this fragile earth. D. J. Green is a writer, geologist, and sailor, as well as a bookseller and partner in Bookworks, an independent bookstore in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She lives near the Sandia Mountains in Placitas, New Mexico, and cruises the Salish Sea on her sailboat during the summers. An avid outdoorswoman, she loves to hike, backpack, birdwatch, and pick up and contemplate rocks (but never ever take any home from a National Park). D. Today I wanted to share a few personal thoughts on 2023 as well as re-release Episode #5: "Our Empty Spaces". The days and weeks following the holidays can often feel quiet, lonely, and empty. I pray that my words encourage you and that you hear the HOPE that God's love, sovereignty, and promises give to us as we remember that He often does His best work in the empty places in our heart, our life, our home, our family… Let Him fill your empty spaces in 2024. It will help your fight for joy! **This episode is sponsored by Better Help, the world's largest online therapy provider, with over 30,000 licensed, trained, experienced, and accredited psychologists, therapists, and counselors. I have loved working under the sponsorship of Faithful Counseling over the last few years and am excited to now be welcomed into a special new partnership with its parent company, Better Help, ESPECIALLY because they also provide the opportunity for you to choose a Christian counselor, a licensed therapist who will provide faith-based counseling. When you visit my link, betterhelp.com/fightingforjoy, you will begin filling out a questionnaire and one of the questions will be: “Would you like to be matched with a therapist who provides Christian-based therapy?” I'm so grateful to still offer you this option with Better Help! Also, FYI, if you go to my old Faithful Counseling link, it will still work for a while, it will just redirect you to the Better Help platform. And yes, I'm still able to offer you a 10% discount with Better Help as my sponsor. As I reflect on my grief journey I'm reminded of just how helpful solid, Christian counseling has been for me! If you think that counseling would help YOUR fight for joy, visit my new link at Betterhelp.com/fightingforjoy today! I've said it many times before and I will continue to say it - quality counseling is a worthy investment in your fight for joy!

The past three years of the pandemic and the widespread practice of working from home have had a huge impact on our cities, businesses, individuals, and real estate of all types around the world. What will the future look like when considering long-term trends in population, employment, office attendance, housing prices, and other factors? Join us for a special presentation featuring the results of a new McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) report, "Empty spaces and hybrid places: The pandemic's lasting impact on real estate." MGI Director Jonathan Woetzel will take the lead in a discussion of the report's findings and implications, such as the ripple effects of hybrid work on the way we live, work, and shop; the resulting impact on demand for office, residential, and retail space in cities; and how urban stakeholders can adapt to the new reality. He will be joined by Peter Calthorpe, urban design and planning principal at HDR. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This summer I am trying something new by re-releasing a few of my older Fighting for Joy Podcast episodes. While I'm taking a break from creating new content I wanted to pull out a few conversations that may have gotten buried in your feed in hopes that they will provide you with fresh encouragement. Our podcast community has also grown quite a bit over the years so if you're a new listener, these may be episodes you haven't had a chance to listen to yet. The next one I will be highlighting is Episode 5: "Empty Spaces", originally released on December 28, 2018. Here is some of what I wrote then (you'll hear a few Christmas references because of it's orginal airing date): God loves to fill empty spaces. I find that especially helpful during this time of year when many of us can more deeply feel the emptiness in our lives. Did you feel some emptiness this Christmas? Maybe you haven't lost a loved one, but your heart feels empty. Or you're experiencing some sort of brokenness in your family, or with your health, or in a relationship? Or maybe you've been feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, or sad? Well, whether this really IS the “most wonderful time of the year” for you or if its just been downright lonely and sad (or even a messy, complicated mix of everything!), I wanted to record this mini-episode to remind you that God REALLY IS enough to fill our empty spaces.

The following morning, when her boyfriend awoke, a cryptic voicemail from the middle of the night was the only trace of her. This is the story of Kelley Brannon. Other than that brief information I just shared, can you tell us in your own words, “Who is Rabbi David Green?” You were successful in the music industry…What made you decide to become an observant, religious person and then to enter the Rabbinical Priesthood? How did your music change once you made this transformation? In your book, https://amzn.to/3RlnGxi (“Pictures of Your Soul,”) you say, “The soul of man is the candle of God.” I love that metaphor.
