Blake Casselman is a comic book writer, screenwriter, film producer, and teacher. He graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor's Degree in Film, and later earned an M.F.A. in Education. He is the co-writer/co-creator of the graphic novel, "Devil's Triangle" with Brian C. Hailes. He also co-wrote the award-winning dark fantasy short film, "Kiss the Devil in the Dark" starring Doug Jones ("Star Trek: Discovery" "The Shape of Water"). Many of the films he has written and/or produced have been screened in film festivals throughout North America. In 2012 he co-founded a film production company, Rare Legend Films, and co-wrote and produced the award-winning feature-length comedy, "Adopting Trouble" (available for rental or purchase on Amazon Prime). His short fiction has been published in a number of anthologies and he edited the sci-fi/fantasy anthology, "Heroic: Tales of the Extraordinary" on behalf of the Aaron Allston Foundation. Over the years he has taught screenwriting, film and story theory, and storyboarding classes and has worked as the Director of Programming for FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention.

COVID-19 has forced closures and cancellations aplenty through spring 2020, including big movies, concerts, events and conventions.  Restrictions on gatherings may continue until later in the year, something that could potentially affect FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention in September and its many thousands of attendees. Fan Effect host Andy Farnsworth reached out to FanX owner & co-founder Dan Farr (from a safe social distance!) to answer the big questions fans may be wondering about the annual event, including:  Is FanX still going to happen, or could it be postponed or cancelled?  Can (and should) people still purchase tickets?  What potential changes are organizers considering?  Are celebs still planning on coming, and will they still allow autographs and photos?  What can organizers do to protect healthy patrons from those who might be sick but still want to attend? Han and Leia have a son, and the Emperor has mysteriously returned, despite his death at the end of Episode VI. Sound familiar?...If we're talking the enduring influence of Dark Empire, the rebirth of Palpatine is probably the story's greatest narrative feat. Bringing the slain Sith leader back to life isn't easy. The story sees Palpatine transfer his mind and consciousness into a series of clones. As expected, the spooky old dude is seeking immortality–a notion that, for any fan of the prequel trilogy, we know is very much canon to Star Wars. In Veitch's story, Luke falls for Palpatine's tricks, becoming the Emperor's new apprentice. Now, in our new continuity, Luke is very much dead. But it's not hard to imagine that Rey–especially with her dark duds and red lightsaber from the recent D23 trailer–may take Luke's place in this iteration of the story. It's Luke's sister, Leia, who actually sways the Luke and helps him overcome the Emperor, in the end.
