We went into this one with NO PLAN, folks. It's free-style nerding today on the old podcast. Matt played some cool games and finally hit up that Stardew Valley update. Roses talks about Home of the Underdogs and some of retro games we really didn't enjoy. Following the path, our heroes continue to walk along until they encounter a fork in the road. Not sure which way to head, they decide it would be better to wait until someone else came along to ask them for directions. They set up camp along the path and settled in to wait. While they rested, they reminisced on old school flash browser games, censorship in Japan, and then continued to ramble on for no real reason.

Flash Games creator Jason Graham goes into great depth about his game designs, the method and intent behind the probability-based system for his pro football game, and his must-read list of books that provide real insights into the game of football and the realities of comparing athletes across eras. Jason is very "open source" about his game design and goes out of his way not only to explain how to play his football, boxing, basketball and racing games but to give folks access to them free of charge for their evaluation. This episode we peel back the pixels on early internet Flash Games and the ensuing chaos of trying to stay alive with massive server bills and Scientology owners. First up, Newgrounds, a user-generated website that began with Flash games like 'Club A Seal' and 'Assassin', but became famous as the home of viral videos like 'Numa Numa Dance'. This is followed by our second story, Neopets, in which the original creators accidentally sold a majority stake in their children's Pokemon-esque company to Scientologists who in turn decided to run their new acquisition using the "80 trillion year-old" organizational management technique developed by an ancient civilization. We wish we were kidding.

Where do these boys keep finding all these dang guests? Join us as we hit the four total guest threshold, and use this to talk about the trolley problem for 30 seconds and then move on to greener pastures. Not death just a random grab bag of topics. So buckle down, buckle in and buckle up because we are incapable of staying on one topic for more than 5 minutes.

This week Tommy went along to Nintendo HQ for an exclusive early demo of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Is it everything you'd want from a Smash Bros. game? Yes, it sounds like it is! But will it truly be that? Yeah, seems like it! Also, we touch base with Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu and Eevee, review a mystery game/product, cover the week's news and drop the big news that we're nominated for an Australian Games Award for Gaming Publication of the Year! Pretty cool! What's sure to be the biggest game of the year is out this week, and Tommy, Ben and Adam have a lengthy, SPOILER FREE talk about it. It's a massive, fascinating and expensive-looking-as-hell game, but it's also got an idiosyncratic streak that the boys are here to dissect. Also the PlayStation Classic games lineup got announced, but Red Dead is out and come on. Of course the episode was going to be that. A tales of podcasters and microphones, eternally retold. This week Tommy, Ben and Adam have mysteries aplenty: Tommy tackles the bizarre world of Undertale, Ben steps aboard the intriguing Return of the Obra Dinn and Adam wonders how many Sonic the Hedgehog custom characters he's going to fight online in Soulcalibur VI. What's that I hear a clip-clopping in the distance? Sounds like a horse? Surely this horse and whoever's riding it couldn't be coming to trample all over next week's episode? Woah there, cowboy! What in tarnation does "big-ass Red Dead Redemption 2 episode next week" mean? Three podcast hosts are dropped onto an island, only one can remain to review the new Call of Duty game. Has the gambit of eliminating the traditional single-player campaign in favour of a CoD take on the Battle Royale mode? The answer is yes. There's more detail in the show but if you're in the habit of getting your reviews exclusively from podcast descriptions then there you go. We also fawn over the amazing new PSVR showpiece and all around great game Astro Bot: Rescue Mission. It's a fun week of good games, what a time to be alive. Now to shorten that life with 600 Whoppers and Call of Duty codes. Episode 28 // A discussion about the impact and looming obsolescence of flash games leads to another rather nostalgic episode, which is becoming a theme lately here at WBAG. We then play Spit It Out, where we do our best to SPIT OUT correct and incorrect answers in a fun, fast paced party game.
An amazing and unbelievable story to share this week as we sit with Joey Betz, Lead Engineer to talk about his early days as a flash game developer, working on 1 game a week for 5 weeks and coming up with the game that was "referenced" to create Angry Birds. To top it all off, he left all kinds of good advice on starting small :) Thanks for our Patrons for support: Paul Miller Jr., Jarvis Mcgee, Habib Khan, Jan Tverdik, Kelvin Reid, Garrett Gustafson Support us on Patreon: www.patreon.com/gamedevunchained Check us out on our website www.gamedevunchained.com/ Join our community on Discord discord.gg/sJtGmpV

We kick off 2012 talking about the Indie game Pitiri 1977, quite possibly the most polarizing title we've played so far.
This week G. Christopher Williams and Nick Dinicola form a dynamic duo of flash game playin', flash game analyzin', and flash game discussin' excitement. We take a look at three of 2011's more interesting releases, Jonas Kyratzes's Alphaland, Thomas Brush's Skinny, and Sarah Northway's Rebuild. Two of the titles are platformers and one is a turn-based strategy game, and they feature anxious video game worlds in progress, scary mommy AIs, and, of course, the hungry zombie hordes. If you want to play along as you listen (or better yet, before you listen), you can find Alphaland and Skinny at New Grounds. Look for Rebuild over at Kongregate.
