For decades, department stores competed for customers. Knute Berger recalls how Frederick & Nelson lured them in with a chocolate mint truffle. Food does more than feed us. It connects us, to each other, to traditions and to place. This is true everywhere, but especially in the Pacific Northwest, where an abundance of life creates endless options for indulgence. Salmon, apples and even chicken teriyaki all have a spot in the hearts of Northwesterners, but there is one delectable that seems to inspire a particularly intense and mouthwatering nostalgia: the Frango. Host Knute Berger and Stephen Hegg discussed the Seattle-made chocolate treat in a recent episode of the Mossback's Northwest video series. But there is more to the story. For this episode of the Mossback podcast, Berger and co-host Stephen Hegg dig into the origin and cultural impact of the Frango. They discuss how the chocolate mint truffle was a part of a larger department-store culture that shaped the rituals of the region for many, and they explore some of the other sweets created here. Before listening, we suggest you watch the Mossback's Northwest episode about Frangos and other Northwest delights here. --- Credits Hosts: Stephen Hegg, Knute Berger Producer: Seth Halleran Executive producer: Mark Baumgarten

We're back with Pokemon Smash or Pass Round 2!! - is what we know you would all love, unfortunately Ro is back so normal programming resumes. Ro gives us an update on his get rich quick scheme he mentioned a few weeks ago as well as an update on his Mr Potatohead world record attempt, with him attempting his first go live on air in a few weeks. Sen then reveals some details about the sordid, shady dealings of Sydney's underbelly, which of course is a reference to the bitter battle for chicken supremacy between El Jannah and Frangos. Our game this week is new and something we've been thinking about for a while. In “Fact or Cap,” we will test the outrageous claims the boys have made over the years as well as other challenges we see fit. To kick us off, we have Ro, the barbeque sauce aficionado, take a blindfold test to guess the brands of various sauces. We end this week with the always popular, “Dob in a Rare Unit.” This week, Migs recounts his run in with some specimens at a Kid Laroi concert, Sen dobs in a third party rare unit with some questionable bedroom habits, we have a listener submission and of course a bathroom rare unit. Also this week: Beem fraud, Chargrill Charlie's, Bird Box and bin nutting. Segments this week: The Logue: Tired of reaching around each other (at least on the podcast), the boys have instead decided to reach around the week's news stories, events and viral trends. Fact or Cap: The boys talk a big game, now it's time to put it to the test in a series of challenges to determine if it is indeed fact or cap. Dob in a Rare Unit: Are you a rare unit? Is your family full of rare units? Are your mates rare units? Is your boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse a rare unit? If so, write into us and let us know the rarest thing they've done. ___________________________________________________ SPONSORS

“A mentor of mine pulled out his business card and wrote on the back of it: never forget when you were a sales representative.” – George Frangos Anyone in the sales profession knows the challenges that both sales reps and managers have faced over the last 12 months. In this episode, we hear firsthand about the experience of a pharmaceutical sales leader and how their team has forged ahead amidst the storm of COVID-19. My guest today is George Frangos, Director of National Sales, HIV at Gilead Canada. George has held progressive roles in sales, analytics, marketing, training and sales leadership over the last 16 years. And he was also part of the panel that hired me into my first head office role at GSK over 10 years ago! In today's episode, we discuss: - The biggest challenge faced over the last 12 months, and how teams can push through it - How sales reps can successfully adapt during a crisis by focusing on themselves first - The power of employee development, and how it brings value to an organization - Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead and much more! If you find this episode valuable, please subscribe and rate us on Apple Podcasts! How Sales Reps Can Stay Productive During Lockdown Business continuity is critical whether we have a pandemic or not, especially with chronic conditions such as HIV, which is the space we work in. I challenged my team to come up with a plan to be productive even during the pandemic, and we called it the “Work From Home” plan. So we developed a week by week schedule which allowed us to work on our individual development plans, and also team development plans. Leadership Struggles During the Pandemic It's tough to convince your team or to assure them that they have nothing to worry about. We're all high performing individuals and we make sure that we deliver hard results for our organization. But it's tough to have frank discussions when the pandemic is something that we haven't experienced before. Remember Your Humble Beginnings Most sales leaders have been a sales representative at some point in their life and in whatever industry they are in. And it's important to remember those days because you'll be able to empathize with your teammates and understand exactly what they are going through. It will help you make decisions, create empathy, and to listen and understand their needs as individuals and as professionals.
