//The Wire//2300Z November 28, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: PUBLIC TRANSIT OFFLINE THROUGHOUT THE NETHERLANDS. RUSSIA/UKRAINE RHETORIC CONTINUES AS BEFORE.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Russia: Concerns are growing with regards to recent ideas/sentiments that have been floated by NATO and the United States. Specifically, Russia (to include Putin himself) has responded to the rumors of the United States potentially giving Ukraine nuclear weapons.AC: As a reminder 100% of this rumor regarding the potential gifting of nuclear weapons to Ukraine originates from a single opinion piece by the New York Times, and has not been independently verified to any degree as being a serious consideration. Nevertheless, it's now an idea that's on the international stage, with Putin addressing the potential directly. As one might expect, Russia has used the strongest possible language to denounce the idea, however the fact that they felt the need to even address this in the first place is mildly concerning. Granted, almost all Russian politicians are exceptionally skilled in needling the West and latching on to an idea that puts them at an advantage, so that opportunity would have not gone to waste in any case.Netherlands: This afternoon Dutch authorities reported multiple nationwide outages of public transportation services. Separately, various problems with cellular networks have also been reported simultaneously. No official word has been released on the cause of the systems outages, however speculation by local media has focused on the issue possibly being related to a bug within a software update for a critical data center. AC: A similar scenario also happened back in August, leading many to believe the same IT issues have once again disrupted public transit services. However, it's too soon to tell if another software glitch is to blame, or if this is the result of malign action.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Concerning other rumors regarding the situation in Ukraine, mutterings are mounting that suggest Putin may indeed launch another IRBM soon. This time, with the target being Kiev. Zelensky has said as much over the past few days, and has specifically requested missile defense systems capable of intercepting Russia's missiles, even though there is no defense system on the planet capable of intercepting hypersonic warheads at this time (at least nothing that has been made public yet). These rumors have been exacerbated by Russia releasing a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM number N1506/24 which pertained to an airspace closure. Since the airspace closure was directly over the Kapustin Yar Missile Test Site, those unfamiliar with Russia's defense doctrine may have thought this was an indication of another missile launch. However, this particular NOTAM is quite routine, as Russia (like the United States) regularly conducts missile testing that requires such notice. This routine NOTAM has already expired, and had nothing to do with an IRBM launch. When Russia launched their Oreshnik IRBM into Ukraine the first time, they did not declare an airspace closure, preferring instead to let the boldness of their actions convey their message. Whether or not Russia will indeed launch another IRBM (or even an ICBM next time) remains uncertain, as one might expect. Analyst: S2A1//END REPORT//
Max talks about the tragic crash of a Robinson R44 helicopter (N881KE) in Houston on October 20, 2024, which claimed four lives. The accident occurred during an air tour when the helicopter collided with a radio tower at night. While the immediate cause—the helicopter hitting the tower—is clear, the episode delves into the broader contributing factors, offering lessons for all pilots. The tower struck was lit and operational despite a recent NOTAM suggesting otherwise, but a significant factor was the operator's recent move to a new location. This change introduced risks as pilots flew new routes they were less familiar with, potentially increasing workload and reducing situational awareness. Distractions, a leading cause of aviation accidents, likely played a role. The pilot, engaged in radio communications, may have lost focus on obstacle avoidance. Limited night vision, reflections from the helicopter canopy, and passenger interaction may have compounded the challenge. Key takeaways include heightened vigilance during operational changes, minimizing distractions, and prioritizing night vision by dimming cockpit lights. Pilots are also encouraged to study and memorize local obstacles. These lessons emphasize safety awareness to prevent future tragedies in both helicopters and airplanes. NOTAMs are important. And as student pilots, we're taught to check them thoroughly before every flight. Even at our home airports things can change quickly, and NOTAMs can affect flight-planning decisions. But when one student pilot had to land at a different airport and then finally headed home, the pattern was very full. Was there a NOTAM for this congestion? Find out on this episode.

//The Wire//1800Z May 17, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: PM FICO REMAINS IN SERIOUS CONDITION. RUSSIA ANNOUNCES, IMMEDIATELY CANCELS NOTAM OFF CALIFORNIA COAST.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Slovakia: PM Robert Fico remains in serious condition following multiple surgeries since his assassination attempt. Local sources claim his condition remains uncertain, and that it will take several more days before his outcome becomes more clear.-HomeFront-Texas: The Pelican Island Causeway Bridge remains closed pending safety inspections. No timeline has been given for its reopening or repair.California: Yesterday afternoon, the Russian Federation announced (via NOTAM) an area that would be host to rocket activity in international waters, approximately 500nm off the coast of Los Angeles. The notice (A1922/24) went active yesterday, and at the time of posting would be active until May 26. However, as of this morning, the NOTAM has been canceled per the Defense Internet NOTAM Service (DINS) portal.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: As to the original reason for the Russian NOTAM, few details were provided in the initial notice (which is typical). It could have been to designate the debris field for a Russian space launch, but the language in the initial notice was not typical of such launches and indicated a more military use. On the other hand, the factors provided equally support a space launch, which are frequently rescheduled due to weather (and thus changing the expected booster debris field location). However, if a Russian military missile launch was planned, announced, and abruptly canceled within a few hours, this would be par for the course with regards to the current strategic tensions between the United States and Russia. As a reminder, Russia did almost exactly the same in 2022 off the coast of Ireland. Missile drills were announced, planned, then abruptly canceled without comment from Russia. As such, while Russian activities in international waters are generally concerning power-projection moves, the far more concerning military activities are those which are not announced in advance. More strategically, even though virtually zero information is made public regarding the detection of Russian submarines close to American waters, an observable increase in U.S. Navy ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare) aircraft has been noted throughout the Atlantic over the past few months. It is very challenging to discern training operations or routine patrols from real-world sub-hunting activity; sometimes the only indicator is a lone P-3C Orion or P-8A Poseidon ASW aircraft flying out to sea, out of range of ADS-B trackers, only to return a few hours later with most Americans none the wiser as to their activities. However, considering the extremely tense situation throughout Europe (especially the war in Ukraine), it only makes sense for Russia to have stepped up clandestine power-projection activities close to America's borders…and for the United States to quietly be doing likewise.Analyst: S2A1//END REPORT//

Welcome to your weekly UAS news update, we have 3 stories for you this week: Man sentenced after shooting down drone, SkyeBrowse Lite, and the AMA has gotten approval for temporary FRIAs. First up this week is an update on a story we've been covering since 2021... Back in 2021, a sheriff's drone looking for burglary suspects was shot down by a man who claimed the drone was “Harassing him”. The $30,000 Matrice 300 crashed onto a nearby building and caught on fire. The fire was quickly contained and no permanent damage occurred to the structure. Wendell Goney was identified as a person on interest and was contacted by police shortly after the crash. Goney claimed the drone was harassing him and admitted to shooting the drone with a .22 rifle. Deputies then arrested Goney for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. This week, a US District judge gave the 29 time felon a 4 year prison sentence for the incident. We'll have to see if this sets a precedent for other courts to follow in drone shoot downs. https://dronexl.co/2024/02/23/florida-man-sentenced-four-years-shooting-down-sheriffs-drone/ Next up this week is our friends over at SkyeBrowse! SkyeBrowse released “Lite” this week, adding a monthly plan between free and enterprise! SkyeBrowse lite adds higher accuracy down to 2 inches and priority processing speeds for $49 a month. If you're unfamiliar with SkyeBrowse, it's an online processing software that uses videos to create 3D models. Videos can be from nearly any source and don't require GPS information. If you don't want or need to pay for models, SkyeBrowse still has their Freemium plan, which allows you to pay to unlock tools when you need them! https://www.skyebrowse.com/blog/2023/12/12/introducing-skyebrowse-lite Last up this week is the AMA, who has gotten approval from the FAA for temporary FRIAs. The approval is only applicable AMA events though we'll likely see similar approvals for the FTCA, FPVFC and Stem+C soon. NOTAMs will be required for these events, which won't help out the FAA's NOTAM system unless it gets a major overhaul. We'll keep you updated when we see more. https://amablog.modelaircraft.org/amagov/2024/02/27/faa-grant-national-authorization-for-ama-sanctioned-events/ Alright, that's it, have a great weekend and we'll see you next week!
AEROSPACE Editor-in-Chief Tim Robinson and Deputy Editor Stephen Bridgewater sum up the 2024 Singapore Air Show
Host Max Trescott discusses the fatal crash of a Falcon jet in Georgia with aviation expert Rob Mark. The NTSB final report revealed a series of factors contributing to the accident. These included misreading a NOTAM regarding the ILS glideslope, difficulty entering the initial approach fix into the navigation system, high and fast arrival at the final approach fix, unauthorized use of airbrakes. It's also possible that they didn't realize the ILS approach required flying a procedure turn. They were also flying a black hole approach in dark night conditions with minimal ground lights, but apparently weren't referencing the PAPI visual indicator. The captain, aged 73, had extensive flight experience but had undergone retraining due to unsatisfactory performance in certain areas. The first officer, aged 63, had a significant number of flight hours, but received only a Second in Command (SIC) type rating, because of performance issues. The podcast delves into the transcript of communications between the flight crew and Atlanta Center, highlighting confusion regarding NOTAMs and the approach procedure. The crew, flying a cargo route from El Paso to Thomson, Georgia, requested information on the ILS approach, but there was a misunderstanding regarding the status of the glideslope and localizer. The approach required a procedure turn, which the crew seemingly missed, leading to an unstable approach. There were delays in programming the initial approach fix (IAF) into the navigation system, possibly due to confusion over the fix's identification. The crew ultimately crossed the IAF at an altitude significantly higher than prescribed, leading to a steep descent to intercept the glideslope. Max created a software simulation of the final minutes of the flight that revealed a rapid descent rate and an unstable approach. Despite warnings from the captain about being high, attempts to correct the descent were ineffective, ultimately resulting in impact with trees just short of the runway. This was a classic black hole approach, in which there are few lights on the ground before the runway. A Boeing simulator study of a black hole approach showed that pilots consistently crash short of the runway, and so they must have either an electronic or visual glide slope. During this accident, the glide slope was out of service. If you're getting value from this show, please support the show via PayPal, Venmo, the Cash app, Zelle or Patreon. Welcome to your weekly news update, we have 4 stories for you this week, Ravens vs Bengals game halted due to drone, FAA Safety Login changes, rumors of a new DJI Agras T60, Skyebrowse releases 2D mapping, and our Black Friday sale is in full swing! I am certainly thankful for all of you who come here every week and watch this segment and engage in the comments. What started as a way to help our students stay informed with the industry changes has grown to a video that many of you tell me about when we meet at in-person events. I love the discussion that ensues in the comments and while many of you say it's your favorite part of Friday mornings, my favorite part is to read the comments and interact with you all. First up this week is another drone over a major sporting event… A major league football game was halted due to a drone flying over the stadium this week, busting the stadium TFR. And while I would commonly say don't be that guy (I'll still say it), there are deeper issues that need to be brought up here... First, there isn't enough notification for these TFRs… If you watched our live event you've heard my opinion on this: There is a single NOTAM issued for ALL stadium TFRs. This means that the stadium TFR doesn't show on any of your favorite apps such as B4UFLY or Aloft Air Control. And no, that's not a problem from the LAANC providers. In all reality, this is my and my team's full time job but I personally don't follow major sporting events. I don't know when the games are and the TFRs aren't charted, so we could potentially bust one of these TFRs because I don't follow these major sporting events. Over the years I have been questioning the intent of this stadium TFR, especially when it only covers certain events. A concert from a popular artist would fill up as many if not more seats than a qualifying sporting event, and yet would not qualify for a TFR... why be selective? I'll say it out loud: is the TFR protecting broadcasting rights of the NFL, MLB, and Nascar or is it actually designed for safety purposes? The second issue at play here is that we need better education for drone pilots at the point of sale. The FAA requires that manufacturers include a brochure with each drone sold in the US. Problem is, the rule is not enforced. Could this person who flew over the game have been better informed? Probably. Next up this week is an update to the FAA Safety Login process for non-governmental employees. The FAA is going away from using a username and password and is transitioning to a multi factor authentication service. The process is pretty easy and takes about 5 minutes to change info over. After setting up the new log in system, you'll still need to use your old credentials to get in until Nov. 30th, 2023. FAA Safety doesn't appear to have changed at all, but we'll have to see once the changes are rolled out later this month! Your third story this week is a new and larger Agras! A shared image by DJI leaker Igor Bogdanov shows a new Agras to be released on Thursday - yesterday as you're watching this! The rumored Agras T60 will have a 60-liter liquid spray capacity. Other specs are sparse, but the T40 had a 50kg dry payload, so it's reasonable to expect the T60 will increase this. The T60 is also likely to have onboard RTK, Camera, and light similar to the T40! Your final story this week is Skyebrowse, who released free 2D mapping. As with other Skyebrowse products, their mapping and modeling software uses video instead of pictures to create models. You may already be familiar with Skyebrowse's 3D mapping, which includes an app to fly the drone, 2D and 3D model processing in about 5 minutes, and model sharing. https://www.faa.gov/uas/programs_partnerships/manufacturers_toolkit https://dronexl.co/2023/11/20/dji-agras-t60-agriculture-drone/ https://www.faasafety.gov/login/

Are you ready to master 2D mapping and 3D modeling via Drones? Learn photogrammetry basics and master the principles of acquisition and processing allowing you to serve a wide range of customers at an unparalleled level. Join the Drone U Flight Crew for our 2023 Comprehensive Mapping Classes to add mapping and modeling services to your tool belt. Today's show is about NOTAMs and flying and conducting missions in their absence and how pilots can ensure the safety and other regulatory compliance in the absence of NOTAMs. Our question for today is from Jordan who would like to know how pilots can conduct flight missions in the absence of NOTAMs and in such scenarios how can pilots demonstrate their ability to conduct safe missions. As our listeners know, NOTAM checks are mandate of Part 107 requirements and often included in pre-flight checks by pilots. The absence of NOTAMs can potentially lead to pilot confusion. Rob and Paul discuss the requirements of NOTAMs followed by steps that drone pilots can follow to ensure they demonstrate the safety compliance during flights. Paul also shares hack pilots can use to ensure compliance to regulations in the event of absence of NOTAMs and should pilots be held liable for conducting checks during such a time. Tune in today to learn how pilots can effectively navigate challenging scenarios and ensure compliance to regulations. All it took was one corrupted file to take down the entire Federal Aviation Administration, delaying thousands of flights and temporarily grounding all domestic trips this week. Republican Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) and member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee claims that the current NOTAM system used for real-time updates about flight quality is antiquated and needs to be updated to improve air travel safety. He explains how this outage could have been easily avoided, details the piece of legislation he is pushing for flight efficiency, and calls into question Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg's ability to prevent future travel meltdowns. President Biden visited the U.S.-Mexico border this past week for the first time since taking office, just a few days after he outlined various initiatives that he believes will manage the number of illegal immigrants coming into the country. Executive Director at the America First Policy Institute and former Acting Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security Chad Wolf weighs in on the President's plan, criticizing his push for individuals to apply for asylum and says that the real focus should be discouraging illegal behavior and rooting out fraud in the asylum system. This is Garrison Hardie with your CrossPolitic Daily Newsbrief for Thursday, January 12th, 2022. We’ve got a lot of news to get to folks, so let’s get right to it. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/democrats-vote-against-bill-requiring-medical-care-babies-born-alive-abortion-attempt 210 Democrats vote against bill requiring medical care for babies born alive after abortion attempt Nearly every House Democrat on Wednesday voted against legislation that would require immediate medical attention for babies who are born alive after an attempt was made to abort them. The House passed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which says any infant born alive after an attempted abortion is a "legal person for all purposes under the laws of the United States." Doctors would be required to care for those infants as a "reasonably diligent and conscientious health care practitioner would render to any other child born alive." The bill passed 220-210, and all 210 of the "no" votes came from Democrats. Only one Democrat voted for the bill — Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas — and one other Democrat, Rep. Vicente Gonzalez of Texas, voted "present." Following that level of care, doctors would be required admit those infants to a hospital for further care. Any violation of this standard would result in fines and imprisonment for up to five years, or both. Republicans argued on the floor that comments from Virginia’s former Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam are an example of why the law needs to be clarified to protect newborn infants who survive abortions. Northam was talking about third-trimester abortions and appeared to indicate support for delivering babies that might still be alive before taking their life outside the womb. "We all know in 2019, then-Gov. Northam of the state of Virginia stated this: 'The infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother,'" said Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio. "The cavalier attitude he displayed towards human life is just wrong," Jordan said. "It is simple. Infants born alive following an abortion are kids, are children. All newborns deserve the same level of care." Nonetheless, Democrats overwhelmingly rejected the bill. Some, like Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., argued that the bill would set up new requirements that would "directly interfere with the doctors’ medical judgment and dictate a medical standard of care that may not be appropriate in all circumstances." He and other Democrats said the requirement to eventually take infants who survive abortion to a hospital may not be in the best interest of the family. Some Democrats said the bill is unnecessary because it is already illegal to kill newborn infants, but Republicans accused Democrats of opposing the legislation to further their radical agenda of abortion on demand. https://hotair.com/ed-morrissey/2023/01/11/breaking-faa-grounds-all-outbound-domestic-flights-as-system-crashes-n523027 FAA grounds all outbound domestic flights as system crashes; Update: FAA lifts ground stop As of this writing, the FAA has grounded all outbound domestic flights until at least 9 am ET. It may take longer than that to restore service to its NOTAM system, the on-line platform that all commercial and military pilots must consult before taking off. The disruption began hours earlier, and the FAA has apparently struggled to overcome it. Savannah Guthrie calls it a “sweeping outage,” and it will almost certainly impact flights for hours even after the FAA restores it: https://twitter.com/i/status/1613145694923096065 - Play Video The FAA lifted the national ground stop a few minutes ago, but it’s not clear whether the NOTAM system has been fully restored or they’re using work-arounds. They reopened two airports without out NOTAM due to “air congestion” prior to ending the ground stop: Well over 500 flights got cancelled this morning and over three thousand delayed. The snarl in air travel today will be massive. Stay tuned. https://www.theepochtimes.com/mexican-president-praises-biden-for-not-building-border-wall-even-when-conservatives-dont-like-it_4977673.html?utm_source=partner&utm_campaign=BonginoReport Mexican President Praises Biden for Not Building Border Wall Even When ‘Conservatives Don’t Like It’ Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has praised President Joe Biden for taking a stand against the U.S. border wall, and criticized conservatives during the North American Leaders’ Summit on Tuesday. It comes as the United States sees a surge in illegal immigration across the southern border. “You, President Biden, you are the first president of the United States in a very long time that has not built not even one meter of wall. And that—we thank you for that, sir, although some might not like it—although the conservatives don’t like it,” Lopez Obrador said in a joint press conference. He thanked Biden for maintaining a “relationship of cooperation” with Mexico and for not subjecting Mexicans who “live and work in a very honest fashion” in the United States to harassment. “They’re not suffering raids as it unfortunately used to happen in the past,” the Mexican president added. Lopez Obrador asked Biden to insist that Congress “regularize the migration situations” of millions of Mexicans who have been living in the United States. On Jan. 21, 2021, a day after becoming president, Biden issued an executive order that halted construction of the border wall, commenting that a massive wall spanning the entire southern border is “not a serious policy solution” and a “waste of money.” Between 2017 and 2020, 450 miles of the wall were authorized and built under the Trump administration. In July last year, the Department of Homeland Security announced that the remaining funds, which were allocated for the construction of the wall along the Mexico–U.S. border, would be spent on “environmental remediation and mitigation” as well as for installing cameras, lighting, and detection technology in places where barriers are already built. Under the Biden administration, illegal immigrants entering via the southern border have surged. During fiscal year 2020, there were 458,088 apprehensions. This rose to 1.73 million in fiscal year 2021, a jump of 278 percent, data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) show. During fiscal year 2022, apprehensions rose to 2.3 million. In the first two months of fiscal year 2023, apprehensions exceeded the total apprehensions of fiscal year 2020. According to Steven Kopits with Princeton Policy Advisors, the rise in border crossers is set to continue its upward trend this year as well. Kopits had earlier predicted around 2 million apprehensions for 2021 and 2.3 million for 2022, which is close to the actual numbers. For 2023, Kopits is predicting apprehensions to hit 2.6 million, another record in terms of annual illegal immigration. If Kopits’s projections are true, it would mean that 6.9 million illegal aliens would have been apprehended between 2021 and 2023 under the Biden administration. A network of pro-life pregnancy centers in New York hired private investigators to probe a firebomb attack against a facility last June after what they describe as an inadequate response from federal law enforcement. "They've been responsive, but what they've done we don't know," Tom Brejcha, president and chief counsel of the Thomas More Society, told Fox News Digital of the FBI. CompassCare, which has multiple pro-life pregnancy centers in upstate New York, announced last week that it was joining forces with the society, a nonprofit law firm, to hire private investigators to find those behind the incident at their Buffalo office last summer. Vandals reportedly smashed windows and lit fires in the building's reception room and nurses’ office, then defaced the building with "Jane was here" graffiti, an apparent reference to the radical pro-abortion group Jane's Revenge. The pro-life pregnancy center was able to rebuild quickly, but the individuals responsible have not been apprehended. Brejcha, who told Fox News Digital that his own home was targeted last July by "40 to 50 masked, black-clad thugs," said the investigation has expanded to include all 78 of the attacks against pro-life facilities in the wake of Roe v. Wade being overturned last year. "Along with CompassCare and others, we're looking to investigate connections here," the lawyer explained. "We have security video of attackers. We have license plates. We're pursuing the kind of investigation that lawyers pursue when they're looking to achieve justice on behalf of their clients, civil and criminal. So we're not sitting on our hands just writing letters to the editor about it." Brejcha said they hope to reveal "some of the folks that are behind this," and he is optimistic that they will succeed. https://thepostmillennial.com/biological-males-blocked-from-competing-in-womens-school-sports-in-west-virginia-federal-court?utm_campaign=64487 Biological males blocked from competing in women's school sports in West Virginia: federal court A federal judge in West Virginia has upheld a state law preventing male athletes who identify as female from participating in female school sports. In a ruling on January 5, Judge Joseph R. Goodwin of the Southern District of West Virginia said that HB 3293, the Save Women’s Sports Bill, was "constitutionally permissible." The bill defines "girl" and "women" as biologically female for the purpose of secondary school sports and Goodwin found that this was "substantially related to its important interest in providing equal athletic opportunities for females." The law was first introduced in March 2021 but was challenged by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The ACLU represented trans-identified male middle school student Becky Pepper-Jackson who was barred from the girls' cross-country team. This, the ACLU argued, was a violation of Pepper-Jackson’s rights under the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause and Title IX, the federal state statute that prohibits sex-based discrimination, reports Fox News. At the time, Goodwin ruled in favor of the ACLU and blocked the law at the preliminary stage, ruling that Pepper-Jackson was being excluded from school sports on the basis of sex making it a Title IX violation. While Goodwin acknowledged in his new decision that the law was seeking to "prevent transgender girls from playing on girls’ sports teams," he highlighted the biological differences between males and females that give males a significant sporting advantage. "While some females may be able to outperform some males, it is generally accepted that, on average, males outperform females athletically because of inherent physical differences between the sexes. This is not an overbroad generalization, but rather a general principle that realistically reflects the average physical differences between the sexes," said the judge. Goodwin also noted that while Pepper-Jackson had taken puberty blockers, not all transgender athletes do. Some only socially transition, while others take blockers and hormones at a later stage in puberty. Goodwin stated that "there is much debate over whether and to what extent hormone therapies after puberty can reduce a transgender girl's athletic advantage over cisgender girls." "The fact is, however, that a transgender girl is biologically male and, barring medical intervention, would undergo male puberty like other biological males. And biological males generally outperform females athletically. The state is permitted to legislate sports rules on this basis because sex, and the physical characteristics that flow from it, are substantially related to athletic performance and fairness in sports," Goodwin ruled. The West Virginia ACLU had filed the lawsuit alleging that banning girls from participating in school sports because they are transgender is unconstitutional. In a 2019 speech, developmental biologist Dr. Emma Hilton demonstrated just how wide the gap between the athletic performance of biological males and females is. "So big is the gap, there are 9000 males between 100m world record holders Usain Bolt and FloJo. So early does the gap emerge, the current female 100m Olympic champion, Elaine Thompson, is slower than the 14-year-old schoolboy record holder," said Hilton. Last week, Hillis was rushed to the hospital after a swimming incident at a Florida beach. He reportedly rescued his two children who were in danger of drowning in the ocean. Both children were reportedly uninjured in the incident WREG Memphis reporter Otis Kirk reported that he had been told that Hillis is “battling and definitely needs as many prayers as he can get.” He also reported that the former Razorback’s kidneys and lungs were the primary reasons why he was still in the hospital. WREG’s report mentioned that Hillis’ kidneys are now the main concern. Kirk did not reveal who gave him this information or their relationship with Hillis. He played both high school and college football in the state, before embarking on an NFL career that took him to Cleveland, Denver, New York, and Kansas City. While at Arkansas, Hillis was one part of a running back triumvirate comprised of himself, Darren McFadden, and Felix Jones. The report on Hillis’ condition comes just as a prayer vigil was being held in his native Arkansas. Hillis volunteers as an assistant for his son’s football team. Bryant Davis, who is coach and head of the program, was at the vigil and spoke to KSFM-TV. He talked about the importance of community support. “One of the great things about being a body of believers is relationship and community, and it’s about being not only here to pray for people, but it’s also here, Bryant said. “It’s also to be here to support them through times like this.”
