In this short discussion I share my own personal stress avoiding methods, in this case reading. Books, yes remember those things? As a professional in the health and wellness sector, I balance my life with a multitude of work and private / semi private interests, from the previously discussed exercise and nutrition disciplines (see episodes 93 and 94) to reading and travelling. I'm currently approaching the end of a biography on George Lucas, the world renowned creator of the STAR WARS franchise, whom ten years ago relinquished his ownership of the rights to this incredibly profitable I.P. Upon selling Lucas Film and all rights to films, streaming shows and merchandise to Disney for a reported 4.5 billion dollars, it's now common knowledge among fans, that Lucas was unhappy and stressed with Disney's handling of his once precious and popular fictional world. With this in mind, it's no wonder us mere mortals (read not billionaires) also get stressed with work, home, family, friends, political leanings and financial barriers. Add to these factors, poor genetics, bad diet, alcohol, smoking, vaping and zero exercise, we are essentially inundated with stress inducing symptoms. My advice, pick up a book and enjoy a small and low cost dose of escapism to help with stressful days. Travel - this exciting and at times memorable experience is without doubt a superb way of balancing your life, weather it's a weekend city break or long haul travel to far off destinations, both can be hugely beneficial to our physiological health. Learning about other countries cultures and mannerisms is educational and at times inspirational, which we can bring back home to reflect upon and where needed, utilize for our gain. Yes, we can still bring our devices on our travels and reply to emails or social media updates, but.....wait for it, we don't have to. Simply let certain people know where, when and how to get in contact, as for your normal stress inducing daily interactions, switch off and get a tan. Watch the full episode on YouTube, or listen on Spotify and Amazon Music. Please subscribe to the channel for more free content. Thanks for listening.
Welcome, dear listeners, to Indiana JUNES! We somehow have been doing this podcast for over 6 years and haven't touched a single Indiana Jones movie, even though George Lucas is his dad! So we decided to devote an ENTIRE month to the Indiana Jones franchise! We talk about this movie that started it all, our respective Indy journeys, and play a game called The United States of Cinema. Enjoy! You can contact the show at agoodpodcast@gmail.com and find us @HowStarWarsIsIt on all platforms, but since all platforms are kind of evil now, you should probably just email us. That's the best way to get a hold of us! You can also follow Mike @WordGospel09 on Youtube and Instagram and Josiah @JosiahDotBiz on social media, but once again, just email us. And don't forget to rate and review on iTunes, or wherever you get your podcasts!

Joining us in the base this week is Spencer Jawitz of the Virtual Cantina Network! Rian Johnson would be the happiest person in the world to come back and make a new Star Wars movie, but will he? In other Ryan news, Ryan Reynolds apparently pitched an R-rated Star Wars idea to Lucasfilm. We give our thoughts on that and more, including wondering whether the reason for the season, George Lucas, will appear in person at Star Wars Celebration 2027. We also talk to Spencer about how he became a Star Wars fan and what he's working on with the Virtual Cantina Network and his upcoming Boonta Eve party at Rebel Scum Con! Debbie also discusses her work with the Akashic records, explaining the difference between earth and galactic records, and how she helps clients connect with their cosmic origins. For the second episode of Hollywood Stories' sophomore season, Richard Rushfield talks to the brilliant and bawdy Bruce Vilanch, known as the longtime joke purveyor extraordinaire for the Oscars (plus the Emmys, Tonys and more). But before he became the go-to for Hollywood galas, Vilanch got his start in writing for the big variety shows and specials that peppered the network schedules of the 1960s and '70s and represent the height of television's most flamboyant and unhinged period. Expanding on some of the wildest misadventures chronicled in his new book, “It Seemed Like a Bad Idea at the Time,” Vilanch takes Richard through three of those song-and-dance spectaculars — the “Star Wars Holiday Special” that George Lucas famously disowned, the “Paul Lynde Halloween Special” and the short-lived series “The Brady Bunch Hour.” From writing material for graceless Wookiees to putting Robert Reed's Mike Brady in Carmen Miranda drag, Vilanch revels in how right it felt when everything went fantastically wrong. “It was ridiculous, but I had fun,” he recalls. “A lot of these things were conceived in clouds of smoke.” Learn more about your ad choices. One day prior to leading multiple tours of the original location of Industrial Light & Magic, in Van Nuys, CA, for over a hundred people, renowned visual effects innovator and nine-time Academy Award winner Dennis Muren met up with us at the location. It was the first time Dennis had stepped foot inside the building in nearly fifty years, making it once-in-a-lifetime 'On Location" episode. We talked about the maddening pressure of creating the groundbreaking visual effects for "Star Wars" (1977) at this nondescript industrial property outside the Van Nuys airport, why he wanted to work for George Lucas and the filmmaker's clear cinematic vision, meeting Steven Spielberg for the first time at ILM, Van Nuys, his genuine love of movies and filming locations, and his feelings on the reemergence of VistaVision. Today, the location is home to Neiman & Company, an established architectural signage firm that's been in business since 1965 and purchased the building in the early 2000's. www.neimanandco.com

In this episode, we once again return to the Christ myth, in our search for the devil in Science Fiction with The Matrix. The Christ Myth is usually the story of a chosen one, a demi god, not exactly god but more than human with supernatural powers coming to rescue us all from evil. I would argue, Matrix is the most blatant and obvious of our Christ myth stories. Let's face it: even the most die-hard Star Wars fans absolutely HATED episodes I and II (and probably also hated every Die Hard after the second or third one). But no matter what, we just HAD to see it through and get some closure, at last witnessing the origin of Darth Vader. Hearing that iconic voice for the "first" time. The movie turned out to be pretty satisfying, as if Vader himself threatened George Lucas with a good old "You've failed me for the last time!” Sadly, Vader's few lines in this film are far from menacing...and you'll get to hear them along with a whole lot of much better dialogue from me and a very special guest: my cousin and fellow Star Wars veteran since the very start, Chris Nicosia! For once, I have a good feeling about this!

When the Star Wars prequels came out, they were polarizing for fans of George Lucas' beloved space opera. The three films - The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith – followed Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader. It's been 20 years since the final prequel hit theaters, so it seems like a fitting time to reevaluate the movies.Follow Pop Culture Happy Hour on Letterboxd at letterboxd.com/nprpopculture Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy
Andor is the greatest Star Wars we've ever seen on any screen and it's not close. My close friend Alan Malfavon joins in to talk about the brilliance of this show, what it means to us, and what we hope to see next.About our guest:Alan Malfavon resituates Mexico's socio-political, cultural, and economic networks with the Atlantic World and the Greater Caribbean, and it dissects and problematizes those networks by centering the Black and Afro-Mexican experience. His research interrogates and subverts archival silences that have erased Black and Afro-Mexican agency from narratives of Mexican identity and nation-state formation, seeking to diversify these narratives by foregrounding the voices, perspectives, and actions of Afro-descendants.

It's Popzara's Movie Time! Podcast, where our in-house movie nerds Ethan Brehm and Nate Evans take you on an unscripted journey yakking and chatting about some of their favorite movie moments and cinematic scenes, from past and present, presented without snark and snobbery for your listening pleasure. On deck are two blockbusters directed by Steven Spielberg that are as much science-fiction spectacle as they are family dramas, and whose success and innovative film-making would help reshape the movie industry forever. First is 1977's Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Spielberg's follow-up to 1975's Jaws that proved the shark's success was no fluke. By not making the aliens malevolent but benevolent, it was a revelation at the box-office, bested only by George Lucas' Star Wars. Next is 1982's E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, the heartfelt story of an alien lost on Earth who befriends a young boy that quickly became the most successful movie in history (a title is kept for 11 years until it was dethroned by Spielberg's own Jurassic Park). Our hosts examine the relatable inspirations for both films, realizing their continued success owes as much to nostalgia as groundbreaking cinematic storytelling. Listen as they discuss the surprising connections between Spielberg's films and George Lucas' Star Wars (did you know E.T.'s species has an official name?), how E.T. inspired a hit Neil Diamond song, and speculate if Spielberg's 2022 autobiographical The Fablemans can be considered a thematic followup to both films. All this and more when you listen today!

One of the most cherished aspects of the filmgoing experience explored on the AKAPAD Film Buff Podcast is the magic of experiencing a movie as if for the first time. Tonight's episode captures that rare phenomenon, a moment so uncommon it has occurred only a handful of times in the podcast's history. In this episode, AKAPAD passionately argues why Kevin Smith's impact on the 1990s indie film scene was as transformative as George Lucas's influence on cinema in the 1980s.
