In this episode, you'll hear how Gethin's Welsh roots have been entwined with Manchester since the late 90's first coming here as a student. You'll learn how Gethin has been immersing himself in the community here for the past few years through his work both on-screen and off, as he's settled in Greater Manchester.Lisa and Gethin discuss his unplanned foray into TV presenting, starting his career in double denim and how he's always aiming to make his Dad proud. And Gethin reflects on the impact he wants to make and shares the unique tool he used to figure out the legacy he wants to leave. ------Your host, Lisa Morton, started PR company Roland Dransfield in 1996, one month after the fateful IRA bomb that tore apart the city centre. Trigger Warning - this show briefly discusses difficult topics including self-harm and suicide. Gethin Jones is a survivor, but what few people would have believed, (including Gethin), was that he would also become an international speaker and thought leader. Growing up in the care system, he spent a total of 8 years in prison, battled intravenous heroin addiction, and was trapped in destructive patterns that seemed destined to lead him to more prison time or an early death. He found the will to change his life and a way to transform his own narrative arc, and today he shares his story and offers hope and a different future to others incarcerated and employed within the justice system. Gethin leads Unlocking Potential, a company that works within prisons, probation services, local authorities, and charities across the UK, Australia, and America. He delivers keynote talks, workshops, training, eLearning, and consultancy, aimed at helping individuals, teams and creating a justice system that is fair and fit for purpose for everyone. If you are struggling to overcome imposter syndrome, or finding it a challenge to get traction with your message, then listen up because you will get inspiration and insight from Gethin's journey from inmate to international speaker. Enjoy! What you'll discover: The story of Gethin's transformation from inmate to international speaker. What prison pipelines are and how Gethin is trying to change the justice system. How he busts the myths to shift the narrative about reform. How he positions his talk and services to connect with a business audience. The mindset and practical steps that enabled Gethin to build a speaking career from one networking meeting in 2016. Gethin's advice if you feel that you have a message that no-one wants to hear because it is difficult and challenging. How Gethin approached the first talk he gave. Why Gethin always approaches speaking as a pupil with something to learn. Where speaking fits with moving his mission forward. The latest guest on our Bred a Blue podcast series is Preston North End midfielder, Ryan Ledson. Ledson first came to Everton's attention when he was just four-years-old and he completed the full journey in 2014 when he made his senior team debut. He speaks about his upbringing with the Blues and being handed his Under-21s debut by Alan Stubbs when he was just 15-years-old. His big moment in an Everton shirt came on 11 December 2014 when he was one of four senior debutants against FK Krasnodar in a Europa League tie at Goodison Park. Kieran Dowell, Chris Long and Gethin Jones also made their bows that night. “The team was named an hour-and-a-half before kick-off and I was in it!” says Ledson. Sadly for the player, despite performing well, it would be his one and only appearance for Everton. A highly successful loan spell at Cambridge United in the 2015/16 season really whetted his appetite for senior football and he realised that his future lay beyond Goodison. “I had a year left on my contract at Everton so I could have stayed in the building but I played in a 21s game coming back after Cambridge and I remember thinking during the game that I couldn't do that anymore.” He made the decision to switch to Oxford United where he impressed sufficiently enough to earn a move to the Championship with Preston. Ledson speaks about the teenage pressure of being capped at every level by England and the frustrating injury that prevented him playing alongside Club teammates Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jonjoe Kenny, Dowell and Ademola Lookman when England Under-20s won the World Cup in 2017. Ledson also reveals that he had an agonising decision to make when the Under-17s European Championships clashed with Everton's last Premier League fixture of the 2014/15 season at Hull City. He chose his country, despite thinking that he'd play at Hull. He is now approaching 200 games for Preston, but he retains his genuine affection for Everton and said this about one of his Blues teammates: “He's the best player I've ever played with. He was a step ahead of everyone in training and played balls that you didn't even think were on. And not only that, he was a top fella who really helped the young lads.”
On this week's podcast Martin reacts to last week's announcement that the energy price cap is going down, listeners TELL US about their financial lightbulb moments, and Martin also gives an update on what you need to do next if you've recently sent off a letter to reclaim car finance. Later in the pod, Martin shares his latest money-saving tips and Gethin Jones attempts Mastermind for the first time.

Gethin Jones says he was a very sensitive child and felt lost from a young age. He says he was unable to deal with his emotions and started to express himself through negative behaviour. He was described as being beyond parental control and taken away from his family and placed in the care system. This experience catapulted his life into a pattern of self-destruction which led to a 20 year relationship with the Criminal Justice System, including spending 8 years of his life in prison and a dependency on drugs. Following his last prison sentence he went through a process of complete transformation, in both his personal and professional life. Today, he has an unshakeable belief in himself and found a way to unlock his own potential. He uses this formula to create high performing individuals and teams within Prisons, Charities and Local Authorities.Links: Unlocking Potential WebsiteGethin on LinkedInGethin on TwitterSecond Chance Podcast Links:WebsiteBuzzsproutApple PodcastAudibleFacebookDonation Support:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/secondchance1https://www.raphaelrowefoundation.org/get-involvedSupport the show

Blue Peter was such a facet of BBC television for so many years. Although still on CBBC, the good ol' days come from when it was on BBC1. We wanted to celebrate the golden era of Blue Peter and talk to some folks involved with the programme! Peter Purves was a presenter Blue Peter from 1967-1978. His love and knowledge of the program is immense. We decided not to talk about Doctor Who but focus on his time on Blue Peter, talk about the good times and also the times that were frustrating. In another interview with speak with Gethin Jones. Gethin had been a Blue Peter presenter from 2005-2007. These two gentlemen did the same role at very different times. Peter was a presenter during the glorious 70's while Gethin was a presenter just as the series made a very serious change that would forever change the lineage of the program! What holds these two interviews together is Richard Marson. Richard had been working on the show for years with finally taking over the show in 2003. He knows Peter very well as well as Gethin, being that he hired Gethin! Richard is the one who interviews these brilliant men but also parts of Richard's story is weaved into the narrative too. Listening to Gethin's loves and respect to the legacy of Blue Peter is incredible just as it is heartbreaking to hear what happened to the show once Richard left. This episode has some downs but a lot of ups as we celebrate on of the greatest series the BBC ever made! If you have feedback or questions you would like to have read on the podcast or general inquiries, please contact us at feedback@fromthearchive.co.uk. We would love to hear from you! This podcast is a co-production between From the Archive: A British Television Blog and Kaleidoscope. Thank you for listening.

This week on Monday Mile, I am heading to South West London to meet one of the most well known Doctors in the game, Dr Ranj. He's been the resident expert on ITVs This Morning for a number of years and is paving the way with the importance of Mental Health awareness. He's an NHS Doctor, a dancer, a singer, and an Author and he's even got his own show in the WestEnd, as well as working on the front line during the pandemic. He talks us through the easing of lockdown and how to approach any anxieties around us slowly returning to normality. We also dive into the topic of Mental Health, the importance of being open and how important that support is. I also pick his brain on how best to go about that first tricky conversation, whether it be supporting someone struggling, or yourself reaching out for help, and admitting you are struggling.

Gethin Jones has turned his life around, from being sent to a detention centre at 14, to being a successful entrepreneur in his adult years. He started 'Unlocking Potential' to change lives of those on the wrong track and he has done a great job of doing so. In this Podcast, I speak to Gethin about his story and his plans for the future. Interview by Ted Lawlor, owner of If Only They Knew - the hub for young business minds.
Gethin Jones is a Welsh TV Presenter, radio DJ, sportsman, musician and dancer. He hit the big time as a presenter in the longest running children's TV show in the UK, Blue Peter. He's also a highly skilled Rugby presenter, having played the game himself for many years and now a deeply knowledgeable self confessed "rugby anorak". He fronted Manchester based HITS Radio and mote recently hosted Strictly Come Dancing after show, It Takes Two, having previously been a competitor on the show. Not just a pretty face, Gethin is Grade 8 in both violin and piano, played the violin at the Proms with the BBC Philharmonic and is also a fitness fanatic, becoming the first civilian to finish the Royal Marine Commando 30-mile (48 km) Yomp in 2006. Jones appeared as a Cyberman in a 2006 episode of Doctor Who and as a Dalek operator in 2008. Outside his TV role in the public eye, Gethin is one of nicest guys you could hope to meet - authentic and genuinely warm - spending much of his spare time helping out on social causes including his work with Nigh, a Weklsh based charity supporting those with autism. Gethin was kind enough to give me a lesson in presenting in this rollicking interview in which he takes the micky out of me almost the entire way through.
