South African soprano Pumeza Matshikiza has performed at many of the leading opera houses across Europe and the United States and released her debut album Voice of Hope, combining well-known arias with traditional and popular African songs. She has won critical acclaim in the title role of Aida at the State Opera Hannover, as the Fox in Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen at the English National Opera and this summer performed at London's Classical Pride. She is about to accompany Bryn Terfel on a Christmas tour around the UK and joins Nuala in the studio to sing live.CensHERship is an organisation that looks into ways in which women's health companies are censored across both online and financial platforms. A new report from them sets out how even including a word like ‘vagina' in the launch of a sexual health product can mean that product is blocked. Co-founder of CensHERship Clio Wood joins Nuala to discuss what needs to be done and the findings of the report, alongside Tess Cosad, CEO and co-founder of Bea Fertility, and Farah Kabir, co-founder of Hanx – both of whom have experienced censorship of their business.Author Josie Lloyd joins Nuala to discuss her new novel featuring fictional Alice Beeton, the prim and organised owner of The Good Household Management Agency and distant relative of the real-life Victorian cookery and household writer Mrs Beeton. Alice and her ancestor share a love of recipes and an eye for detail, which comes in handy when Alice becomes involved in a cosy, Christmassy crime in Miss Beeton's Murder Agency. Is SexTech still taboo? Join Ana Wolsztajn and Farah Kabir, Co-Founder of sexual and intimate wellness challenger brand HANX, for a no-holds-barred discussion about the challenges and triumphs of innovating outside the norm. From challenging outdated attitudes in VC, to using community to bust stigma, get Farah's candid insights into growing the business - and where she finds motivation and resilience to take on the condom corporates. Speaker:
Today I'm joined by Farah Kabir, Co-founder of HANX.One day, while enjoying a stable career in Asset Management at Goldman Sachs, Farah stood in line at her local Boots ready purchase a box of condoms when she realised her boss was standing behind her.Utterly mortified, Farah felt the very relatable pang of shame rise within her until… she suddenly thought “actually, why should I be embarrassed about this?” and so over a bottle (or two) of wine, she decided to jump into bed with her best friend Sarah (who also happens to be a doctor) and give birth to HANX - a sex-positive, anti-awkward approach to contraception.HANX are on a mission to change the world, and champion unapologetic sexual and intimate health for everyone. Coupled with clever partnerships, creative campaigns and conscious ingredients, they're taking on the condom industry by banishing stereotypically ‘masculine', penis-centric messaging, not to mention gross chemicals that shouldn't be anywhere near a vagina. In this episode we discuss:How doing it with the lights off and grazed knees are a sign of great… businessSafe sex at Number 10 Downing StreetCo-existing with competitorsWhy selling yourself in store is still a great way to attract customersBeing open and honest with your teamAnd much more!Links:Get yourself some HANX - https://www.hanxofficial.comListen to our other episode “Fundraising as a diverse founder” featuring Farah and some of our other incredible guests - https://open.spotify.com/episode/0LIiOdqRsdUOqy2hu8iXbw?si=kXb2iuMCTKGby58HqOdfTwListen to our episode with Lauren on scarcity mindset - https://open.spotify.com/episode/3fesy7fsEVgLLrcOs0BIDK?si=p-xXyVx8SEyaI_OtHzzTRALearn about getting back to basics as a founder with Marcus Exall - https://www.linkedin.com/in/marcusexall/Check out Kayode Odeleye to learn about financial storytelling - https://www.linkedin.com/in/kayodeodeleye/
Movie of the Year: 2002Catch Me If You CanCan Catch Me If You Can con its way to our 2002 Movie of the Year?Catch Me If You Can is a Steven Spielberg joint, so you know we are going to get rowdy on this one. Steve Spiels has meant so much to the show. An early Hall of Fame inductee, one of the most important voices from our childhood, and a talented filmmaker to boot, this guy has got it all goin on as far as we are concerned. But does that mean this particular movie, Catch Me If You Can, is any good? Hmmmm. And when it comes to star power, you know this movie delivers, serving up Leo and a side o' Hanx! (Can someone put a chef's kiss emoji here?-Greg) However, do these guys create synergy, or do we simply get two strong, parallel performances? If I answered that here, I could get fired, but listen to the show because you probably should know. And it wouldn't be an episode of Movie of the Year without as jawing about ladies. Boys. Love. Ladies. But do they? Or do they love the idea of ladies that culture has tried to hallucinate into existence? Dunno! And you know we have a sack full of awards to bestow! #HANX for the Memories is back for a semi-surprise dump of Pinocchio (2022) onto Disney+, featuring Tom Hanks as Gepetto. It's not the longest episode we've ever done, because, well... it's a movie we've seen before. We dive into the "quest for content" on all streaming services, the many adaptations of Pinocchio that have released in the past few years, and whether or not Robert Zemeckis's version does anything truly new. We talk about Tom Hanks's portrayal of Gepetto, the character found in this movie but not in the original, and whether or not the ending is a cop out.

They both felt strongly that the current offering isn't fit for purpose and wanted to create sexual wellness products to address the problem. They went about starting the passion project with thorough market research and surveyed 2,000 women on sexual health and buying habits.Funding the business as two female entrepreneurs and Farah being from a Bangladeshi Muslim background, came with an array of challenges, naysayers and inappropriate comments from “old school” male investors. While the consumer brand is tech-enabled, it's not tech/ SaaS which is typically “sexy” for many VCs so this type of investment didn't work out early on. On reflection, Farah believes everything happens for a reason and is happy to have angels, micro funds and family offices as investors as it has allowed them to learn the true definition of ‘capital preservation'. In this episode you'll discover:Why you'll always be raising investmentTips for reaching out ‘cold' to potential investorsHow to get a thick skin
The practice of manifesting has gained a lot of attention over the last few years, and so for this final episode of series three I wanted to understand how manifesting can show up in our dating lives, relationships and sex lives. Defined as the practice of thinking aspirational thoughts with the purpose of making them real, I see a lot of cross over with my work as a therapist. Both practices are about helping people to remove barriers and self-doubt, build confidence and helping people to get to where they want to be, whatever that looks like for them. Not knowing much about manifesting apart from what I have learnt through Roxie Nafousi and her book MANIFEST: 7 Steps to Living Your Best Life, made her the perfect guest for this conversation. Roxie has been named "The Manifesting Queen" by Forbes, and "The A-Lists favourite manifestor" by The Sunday Times Style Magazine. ••• Roxie Nafousi is a self-development coach, the author of Sunday Times Bestseller, MANIFEST: 7 Steps to Living Your Best Life, and Manifest: Dive Deeper which is now available for pre-order for release in January 2023. For the first time in four years, Tom Cruise has felt the need... the need to make a new movie! He's back with Top Gun: Maverick, and we're here to cover it in full spoilery detail. We talk about Tom Cruise's triumphant return to movies in a role that seems to reflect back on his career and in a movie that seamlessly continues the story from 36 years ago. We talk about the new pilots in Top Gun: Maverick (like Miles Teller, Monica Barbaro, and Glen Powell) and wonder where Manny Jacinto was hiding. We praise the character development (and Lady Gaga's musical contributions!), explore the "lore" of the shirtless beach football scene, and admire the extent to which these actors traveled to fly these planes. We also share some slight Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness spoilers (from 34:15 to 34:55) and then look ahead to both Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning - Part One and Elvis (for our sister show #HANX for the Memories). Update: We hope Lady Gaga becomes "two-time Academy Award winner Lady Gaga."
Has there ever been a better time to talk about sex education? Girls, women and their bodies are under siege. Supposed protectors of laws and rights are watching porn in the Commons. Young people are deluged with mixed messages about what they should and shouldn't expect. There's an orgasm gap, along with all the other gaps FFS. In 2017, Farah Kabir launched HANX, the sexual wellness brand with women in mind with her childhood friend Sarah. HANX sells a range of products, from their award-winning ultra-thin, vegan, biodegradable condoms to oestrogen-free hormonal contraception. Now stocked online and in Boots, Sainsbury's and other major UK retailers, they are genuinely disrupting the feminine care industry.⚡Farah is passionate about creating a platform that empowers women to take control of their sexual wellness and pleasure without shame or embarrassment. Before HANX, Farah spent six years working at Goldman Sachs. In this episode, we talk about leaving a secure banking job to launch HANX; the realities of raising money; tips for negotiating with big clients; and the ongoing balancing act of being a founder:1/ Communication is key while doing investment raises. When you're open with your team about it, they remind you why you're doing what you're doing and are also there to support you. 2/ Retail sales is quite similar to investment raising: you can't just turn up when you need funds. You need to nurture that relationship with buyers. You've got to build that rapport and keep that going. 3/ For anyone that asks about jumping ship from their job and starting their own business, I always say it needs to be a calculated risk. You need to have a buffer for the rainy day when you might be financially strapped. You can follow and connect with Farah at:https://www.hanxofficial.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/farahkabir001/ Instagram @hanxofficialOur podcast sponsor Moneybox is an award winning app helping people reach their goals and build wealth with confidence. After a brief hiatus, #HANX for the Memories is back and talking about Tom Hanks' most recent film, Finch! Available on Apple TV+, Finch tells the story of a dying man who builds a robot to take care of his dog after he's gone. In this episode, we talk about the complicated journey of bringing Finch to the big screen, the bizarre reality that this WASN'T filmed during the pandemic, the fairly outstanding performance turned in by Caleb Landry Jones, and our sort of frustration at a movie that we mostly liked but feel we should have loved. Also, we preview the (really, really) big year that Tom Hanks has coming in 2022!
Tup and Pete take a break from having interesting guests to return back to their old standby: not having interesting guests. They cover: the spat formerly known as the French and Indian War, educational street signs, the Wizard of Oz as an allegory for Forrest Gump, and the great matriarchy vs. the patriarchy debate. Pete comes after Hanx again, and insists on doing all of his Entourage impressions before ending the podcast.

The Executive Career Jump Podcast - For Executive Leaders On The Move
Welcome to Episode Thirty-Five (Season Two) of the Executive Career Jump Podcast with your host, Andrew MacAskill!Today our guest is Fiona Hathorn. Fiona is the CEO of Women On Boards UK – an organisation committed to accelerating women into non-executive director roles. In addition, Fiona is an Advisory Board Member to Spktral (a technology company that helps organisations simplify the gender pay gap reporting process), advisor to Peel Hunt (mid-cap stockbroker), and Chair of Hanx's Board Nominations Committee (FMCG start-up). She is an expert in the areas of Governance, Regulation, and Talent Management who has sat on both marketing and audit & finance committees. In 2020 Fiona joined King's College London's 'Global Institute for Women's Leadership' Advisory Board. More than a third of FTSE 350 board positions are now held by women, an increase of 50% over the past five years. Women on Boards UK has played a key role in this progress, but there is a long way to go before all boardrooms have equal gender representation. What's more, progress outside of the FTSE 350 is glacially slow and women from ethnic minority backgrounds are still woefully represented. Yet, the evidence is clear that boardroom diversity is not just about fairness but that it delivers better business results. You will learn:Why UK Boardrooms still have a long way to go with diversityHow you can best position yourself in order to be considered for both Director and Non-Executive Director positionsThe steps you can take today to move towards your first Board roleLinks:Connect with Fiona on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/fionahathorn/You can find out more about the work that Fiona and her team does by visiting their website: https://www.womenonboards.net

‘We're not glossing over the reality of being a woman, we want to be real and relatable'Farah Kabir was in a secure job in finance when she and her co-founder noticed a problem with the condom market; it was all targeted towards men. After thorough market research and a somewhat awkward announcement over family dinner, HANX was founded; providing sexual health products from condoms and lube through to treatments for thrush and more, HANX offers women a beautifully packaged alternative to the many garish, male-pitched products that fill the market. Farah discusses her journey with HANX to date, including:· Moving from a secure job in finance to launching a successful business in sexual wellness.· The importance of being data and customer driven when designing products. · Navigating the world of investment for small businesses, and the necessary move towards a supportive, reciprocal environment where women help women. · The need for sexual education that includes consent, relationship, female anatomy and female pleasure, as championed by charity partners Sexpression and Sexpectation.https://www.hanxofficial.com/ https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/knicker-box-glory/id1485760339https://sexpression.org.uk/ https://schoolofsexed.org/ Find out more about REALWORK on Instagram @doreal.work or visit www.doreal.work The REALWORK Podcast with Fleur Emery is produced by Buckers from @decibelle_creative www.decibellecreative.comOur thanks go to Tom Seals for his wonderful piano playing at the end of this episode – find him here: @tomseals and www.tomseals.co.uk See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
