Axel Karakasis is the most recognisable Greek name in the Techno scene. His career is marked by a number of classic themes and a series of appearances that have established him as an international DJ.   The rise to his present status did not happen overnight, but goes back to the 80s and the 90s, when Techno made its first appearance. Fascinated by this new wave, Axel's courtship with electronic music saw a very different light…   By the late 90s, he was already known through various DJ residencies in Athens, as well as through his regular events with his team “Bubbles” –to be remembered to this date by many! This was when the techno wiz-kid earned his place among the top Greek DJs and appeared in numerous events in the biggest clubs of the Greek capital! He soon became the most wanted Greek Techno DJ, playing regularly in the biggest venues in Athens, Thessaloniki, Mykonos, Crete and all over his native Greece.         Being a restless spirit led Axel to new avenues in music production. He always wanted to play unique music in his sets. That's what drove him to get into the studio and begin his own productions. In 2000, he had his first release on Pornographic Recordings and this was only the beginning, as a string of classic releases followed in the likes of Intec Records, MB Elektronics, Primate, etc. to establish himself in a genre he referred to as “Groovy Techno”! With his very own mark on discography, Axel's international career took off. Confirming his status as the most sought after Greek Techno DJ of his time, Axel headlines events in some of the best clubs in the world, such as the Rex Club (Paris), Womb (Tokyo), Turnmills (London), tours regularly countries like Belgium, Colombia, France, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, Korea, Croatia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Holland and Brazil, to name a few, and has appeared in top festivals like Awakenings (Netherlands) Rabac Festival (Croatia), Apokalypsa (Czech Republic), etc.: he keeps exciting crowds all over the world!   At present, Axel releases his music in top record labels, like Kombination Research, Planet Rhythm, Tronic and others, whereas his tracks have featured in well known compilations and mix CDs, such as Extreme Euphoria (Ministry of Sound), Cream Ibiza, I Love Techno, and many many more. However, his work wouldn't be complete without his own imprint! In his first venture, he was the co-founder of Omega Audio Recordings, which received rave reviews and support by top DJs world-wide, as well as being a platform for new talents to see the spotlight. In September 2007, Axel decided to channel all his energy into his very own brainchild, Remain Records, which is gradually transforming into a brand encompassing both vinyl (Remain Records) and digital (Remain Records and Remain Limited) releases by Axel, The Advent & Industrialyzer, Marco Bailey, Cristian Varela, Alexander Kowalski, A.Paul as well as newer talent.   Axel's strong reputation is based on his consistency towards the genre that established him. Always faithful to techno, Axel Karakasis delivers all-fresh, brand-new sounds that evolve. Having earned strong support by clubbers and his peers worldwide, Axel keeps challenging the clubland with his releases and his full of energy DJ sets.

Our first premiere of the week starts off with a thump as PETDuo feature on Purgatory's first release with a high octane hard techno techno anthem. The Brazilian duo have supplied a rapacious peak time track, with slamming low end, tortuous synth lines and crisped looping grooves. Irish techno party Purgatory launches its first chapter as a label with a hard hitting VA of angry techno. Purgatory was born in Berlin with the aim of hosting tough as nails techno parties with avant-garde acts from across Europe and Ireland. Purgatory has hosted heavy hitters Dave Clarke, Chlär, Echoes Of October, Illnurse, Cailín, Jamie Behan & more across Berlin, Manchester & Galway. The party & label celebrates its year anniversary of ferocious techno, with the birth of the label which features act's from Ireland and further ashore, which keeps in line with labels ethos. Among the bill of producers on the VA is Cailín, Richie Corrigan, D. Carbone, Aero, Myler, Felix6ood & Pet Duo. Our second feature of the VA comes from Brazillian hard techno pairing, PETDuo. The formidable duo have been hugely influential in the hard techno scene over the years, spreading their sound across seminal parties, clubs and festival such as, Love Parade, I Love Techno, TimeWarp, Awakenings and countless others. The pair have also worked alongside some of techno's most influential characters in the world of hard, tough and straight up banging techno such as, Miss Djax, Svetec, Ben Long, O.B.I., Alex TB and Malke. Since forming on 1997 PetDuo have undoubtedly made their mark on hard techno and have released on Hydraulix, Audio Assault, their own imprints Cause Records, PHONK! Records, D & A Music & a host of others. PETDuo's contribution to the Purgatory VA show's the pair at the hardest and raviest as they blend an amalgamation of churning synths, groveling bass and hammering bass drums. This hard techno done properly, as the duo tell a story of peak time warehouse techno. We can see this getting played a lot over the summer.

Alexander Kowalski belongs to the generation of German techno producers who were strongly affected by the social upheaval following the fall of the Berlin Wall and by the enormous sense of freedom in East Berlin during the ensuing years. As with many of his peers like Modeselektor, Marcel Dettmann, Apparat or Paul Kalkbrenner, Alexander came from the former GDR (East Germany). In spite of the hazards, he successfully engaged in a musical career during the nineties, and today he holds the international scene in suspense with his productions. Alexander Kowalski reflects back on a 15-year career that, beginning with the first baby steps in the Berlin underground, finds him today continuing as an internationally sought after producer, remixer, live act, DJ and successful label owner with unmistakable style and an impressive discography. He is a welcomed guest at the most important international festivals such as Time Warp, I Love Techno, Monegros, Creamfields, Nature One, Tresor, Berghain, Suicide Circus. After founding his own label Damage Music Berlin, it has skirted short-lived trends to become easily established as one of the most important innovative triggers in the international scene at the junction between house and techno. Damage Music’s artist roster includes Alexander Kowalski as mastermind and renowned artists like Dirty Doering, Vince Watscon, Extrawelt and Dosem and many more. Seguono entusiasti festival all'estero come Dance Valley,Time Warp,Awakenings,I Love Techno,Sensation,Sonar ascoltando i vari set di artisti come Sven Vath,Stephan Bodzin,Chris Liebing,Robert Hood,Jeff Mills,Dixon,Ame,John Talbot,Nina Kraviz,Rebekah,Kriz,Oscar Mulero,Len Faki,Marco Carola,Tale of us e molti molti altri !!!

MiniCoolBoyz (ITA) - NightVision Techno PODCAST 63 Pt. 3 Bio: Born in 1984, Michele and Raffaele discovered electronic music in the year 2000. Soon after, they began following the Italian nightlife and attending the most important european festivals such as “I Love Techno” in Belgium and “Timewarp” in Germany. During those trips abroad they discovered the magical feeling between Djs and their crowds. Growing up, they started to open up to new sounds, especially the ones created by techno guru Richie Hawtin, aka Plastikman. Michele and Raffaele radically changed their musical tastes: their current style is minimal techno with detroit and tech-house influences. Thanks to their skills and love for music, Michele and Raffaele went on to play at several important clubs in Italy. Michele and Raffaele play their sets with a mix of both traditional and new hardwares, achieving the best sound possible: a drum machine, FX and Traktor Scratch technology, creating a perfect mix between a classical Dj set and a computer-based Live Set. In 2006 a new project came to life: MINICOOLBOYZ Michele and Raffaele began playing back2back, trying to find out new sounds and styles ranging form acid sounds and the hardest grooves. Their career started in various italian clubs and their first tracks immediately received great feedbacks from Italian and international Dj’s, charting at the top of Beatport’s Chart. In October 2008, Richie Hawtin chose one of their remix for his compilation CD “Sounds from Can Elles”, available worldwide with DJ Mag and later released on his Label “Minus” (www.m-nus.com/can_elles): “Varese ist leer” is one of the highlights of the album, its sales peaking on charts all over the world and remaining in the Top Ten most requested Techno songs for a long time. 2009 was a landmark year for MiniCoolBoyz: all the top djs of the techno and tech house world play their tracks, most notably Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola, Paco Osuna, Joris Voorn and many others. Beatport brands them “Richie Hawtin’s Prodigies” (www.beatportal.com/feed/item/meet-can-elles-producers-richie-hawtins-prodigies/) Dubfire calls them: “The future stars of electronic music!” and signs two of their tracks to his label Sci+Tec Digital Audio (www.beatportal.com/feed/item/future-stars-of-electronic-music/). Releases followed on acclaimed labels such as SCI+TEC Digital Audio, Saved Records, Octopus, Bitten, Terminal M, Kling Klong, Great Stuff, MBF and many more, and gigs were booked at some of the most important clubs in Europe and festivals such as Watergate, Weekend, Heineken Balaton Sound, Igloofest, Electrovenice. MINICOOLBOYZ are currently focusing on a vinyl only special project called Triptych, and an ep is set to be released on Carl Cox’s Intec Digital imprint. Tracklist: 01. Redhead (BEL) - NightVision Techno PODCAST 22 Pt. 2 Bio: For this Dj and producer, an early started interest for electronic music became a real passion. Kraftwerk, Gary Numan and the new-beat scene were the first big influences on his future career in music. Between ’92 and ’97 he was a resident in a local club called Amnesia. During this period, he learned how to produce music and bought the necessary equipment. Round the same time, he met Marco Bailey and they became co-producers, as well as best friends. A productive and creative team was born. This extraordinary duo released their first record in ’98, on the Forcefield label. Later on followed more products of hard labor and they released on Primate, Session, Kobayashi and many more, in total over 40 records. He already played in loads of countries all over the world, like Brazil, Japan, Sweden, Malta, Ibiza, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Poland, France, Holland, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Greece, Germany and Turkey. Proudly presenting for our episode 15 MATT RISSI as our special guest this Sunday recording an exclusive mix for us! One of the Midwest's cornerstone techno promoters, producers, deejays & iconic inspirators responsible for exposing this music to that we all love to his own backyard with the force of a 50 ton bull dozer. For over 14 years Matt has been hosting & sharing stages & line ups with some of the world’s most respected underground artists (Chris Liebing, Richie Hawtin, Grooverider, Claude Young, Christopher Lawrence, Tommie Sunshine, Stewart Walker, Drumcell, Kyle Geiger, DJ Misjah, Acid Circus, Mike Gervais, Dustin Zahn, DVS1, Frankie Bones, Dieselboy, Woody McBride, Derrick Carter, Donald Glaude, Terrence Parker & many more). He does so with the sole intent of fueling a passion for groove that he embraces with 100% conviction & dedication. Locally, he’s at the forefront of a movement, leading with torch in hand… Nationally, he takes to a bigger stage with the means to completely steal the show. Over the course of his promoting career he’s developed his own rendition of a DJ performance that has become unparalleled by his peers. His fierce presence behind a mixer has led to his domination of line ups while devastating the hundreds of dance floors he’s met face to face. His malicious attempts to captivate crowds through technical & explosive mixing techniques have granted him the ability to engage even the most timid of audiences. A record collection of nearly 10,000 pieces of vinyl paints a detailed story about where he’s been musically since the beginning of his pulsating addiction. Now armed with the capabilities of digital DJ’ing equipment & software he is able to take screaming crowds on a journey that is not limited to boundaries or restrictions. On the fly remixing, splicing, editing & looping allow his performances to possess an expanding capacity of erotic color & you can bet that you’re going to experience a unique set built for the moment every time you see him play. This is and will continue to be the reason that he’s earned the respect of various globetrotting talents while being invited all over the country to rock stages alongside some of the most hard hitting techno players on the planet. As a producer, his initial debut was released on Chicago’s Zuvuya Recordings with partner & good friend Mustafa Avdic leading to a spotlight on Music Man’s ‘I Love Techno 2007’ compilation mixed by none other than the legendary Dave Clarke. A few years later Dustin Zahn featured his own rework of their ‘Them Crocks’ stormer on an Enemy Recordings remix EP released digitally as well as on vinyl. His original tracks & remixes have also been signed by Klientele & Giant Squid while as the head of his own Solar Cathedral Recordings digital imprint he’s put out 19 releases featuring artists from all over the globe. His original tunes have been receiving plays & support from all corners of the world while being hammered in front of some of the most well versed techno aficionados on the floor. While DJ’ing is Matt’s strong suit, he plans to accelerate his studio efforts in hopes of releasing more original music over the course of the upcoming years. 1.)Dave Avid/Red & White Balloons/Plan-B Records 2.)Samuel L. This man needs no further introductions. He is the best known Greek Techno export at this time with a long-standing career that still grows stronger. His success story begins in the late 80s when Techno made its first appearance. From this point onwards, Axel’s courtship with electronic music saw a very different light… By 1996, midst of an era that saw electronic music taking over the Greek dance scene, he was already known through various DJ residencies. In addition, together with the team "bubbles" he organised regular events –to be remembered to this date!- with a huge crowd of supporters! This was only the beginning for a series of very successful events in some of the biggest clubs in the Greek capital, and not only! In the following years, he became the most wanted Greek Techno DJ, having played in the biggest venues in Athens, Thessaloniki, Mykonos, Crete and all over his native Greece. Notably, DJing was not the only outlet for Axel. He sets up his own studio and starts exploring avenues in music production. To put it in his own words: “I’ve always wanted to create the music I had in my mind…”. In 2000, he meets Marco Bailey and starts releasing his productions in Pornographic Recordings (Marco Bailey’s and Cristian Varela’s label). He continues his productions and releases tracks in some very respected labels, such as MB Elektronics, Primate, MB Selektions, Rhythm Convert, etc. to establish himself in a genre he refers to as…Groovy Techno! Nowadays, Axel continues to release his music in world’s top record labels, like Intec Records (Carl Cox’s own imprint!) and Primate Recordings, whereas his tracks are played by some of the best Dj’s around the globe and have featured in well known compilations and mix CDs, such as Extreme Euphoria (Ministry of Sound), Cream Ibiza, I Love Techno, and many many more… After many years of hard work in the studio and together with Spiros Kaloumenos he launches Omega Audio Recordings. Having made Omega Audio one of the most respected labels, Axel is now channelling all his energy into his own brainchild, REMAIN RECORDS. The label was officially launched in September 2007. Confirming his status as the most sought after Greek Techno DJ of his time, Axel headlines events in some of the best clubs in the world, such as the Rex Club (Paris), Womb (Tokyo), Turnmills (London), tours regularly countries like Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, Korea, Croatia, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Holland and Malta, to name a few, and has appeared in top festivals like Awakenings (Netherlands) Rabac Festival (Croatia), Apokalypsa (Czech Republic), etc : he keeps exciting crowds all over the world, as well as in Greece! At this moment Axel Karakasis is internationally recognized as the best known Greek techno DJ for his full of energy 3 decks sets and featuring rigorous musical selection that portrays his style. Surely, there is more to come from this unstoppable techno rebel….

The name Pako & Frederik may not be overly familiar with some but the Dutch pair has been quietly gaining a solid reputation as producers and DJs for the last 10 years or so. Many of their production work has appeared on some the most highly respected compilations released, in particular Sasha & Digweed’s ‘Northern Exposure - Expeditions’, Carl Cox’s ‘F.A.C.T.’ and Anthony Pappa’s ‘Renaissance’. Pako & Frederik first crossed paths in 1992, through an introduction by a mutual friend. But it took a 1993 meeting to bring their two styles together. The place: a studio in the south of France. The result: the birth of their first collaboration (with Remy): 'Vauvenage'. From this moment on Pako and Frederik joined forces to produce numerous club-hits for a Dutch label called Absolut Records. Their musical style attracted many; gaining them a spot on playlists from international DJ's such as Carl Cox, Sasha, John Digweed, Derrick May, Danny Howells, Chris Harshman, Jerry Bonham and Derrick Carter. Since 1995 Pako & Frederik perform live, appearing at numerous house-parties, clubs and internationally attended festivals such as I Love Techno (Belgium) and Dancevalley. Check out www.myspace.com/pakofrederikDownload MixSubscribe to this podcast with iTunesSubscribe via your RSS reader
