Richard Fearless is one of the UKs most enigmatic DJs and Producers and his Death in Vegas project is back with a brand new album 'Death Mask' (their 7th) on Drone Records this June. As a DJ Richard played a pivotal role in some of the countries most forward looking club nights from the infamous Job Club in the early 90s alongside the likes of Claude Young, Dave Angel and Andrew Weatherall to a stint at the controls of The Heavenly Social with the Chemical Brothers and latterly working alongside Daniel Avery at The Pickle Factory's Goo nights. His Dj style is eclectic and visceral with casual disregard for genre specifics Richard developed a gritty style which served him well in terms of setting the tone of his fantastic Death in Vegas project. From the break out success of the seminal track 'Dirge' to the uncompromising sound of the new album 'Death Mask' Richards music is always innovative and excitingly experimental. We are delighted to welcome Richard Fearless of Death in Vegas to the podcast. Before that though, Eamon turns to the digital dark side at last.... Hosted on Acast. Guys, welcome back here on ESOA Podcast. My guest this week lives in Dresden, is a DJ, is a producer and for me is clearly behind the legendary club ‘Strasse E' to which even DJ Rush dedicated his own track at some point. So my guest today is Clark B. He started out in the early 90s as DJ X somewhere in the hardcore and gabba scene, but later changed his mind and discovered trance and techno for himself. At the end of the 90s, he came to house music, a clear change in musical style at the latest. As a result, he specialised somewhere around house and techno and changed his name from then on to ‘Clark B', which he still uses today. Some people, like me, remember events at the legendary Club Strasse E with names like Claude Young, Alan Oldham or DJ Rush. Clark B was behind all of these from 1999 to 2004. He has remained true to the sound to this day and was therefore prepared to record an exclusive and classic mix for us here: Friends here is ESOA Podcast 075 by Clark B. Have a great time. Hello Decisive Series Subscribers,Roberto Ingram your podcast host and producer here, I'm thrilled to bring you yet another insightful conversation with a remarkable artist shaping the landscape of electronic music. Today, we have the privilege of delving into the world of Jan Kincl, a Croatian DJ, record producer, remixer, engineer, and live performer whose work has captured the attention and admiration of audiences worldwide. International media placed Jan among "the most interesting voices coming from the region", and his debut album, a deeply jazz-informed house record "In Plain Sight" recorded with a French keyboard player Regis Kattie, got described as “one of the most significant pieces of regional contemporary dance music” with support from Laurent Garnier, Derrick Carter, Alton Miller, Jazzanova, Volcov, Tony Humphries, Lefto, Claude Young, Jimpster, DJ Bone, Mark Grusane, Kai Alcé and many more.“An amazingly beautiful album! Very deep.” - Claude Young“The funk's all over this project!” - Kai Alcé“Superb deepness!” - Laurent GarnierBorn and raised in Zagreb, Jan is a product of the late 90s clubbing scene emerging in Croatia. A then-teenager, who embraced the music of the Motor City as a teacher has grown into a recognizable presence in the regional music life. Today, Jan is equally recognized for the music crafted in his Cycle studio, and life-long dedication to the art of DJing. Influenced equally by jazz and hi-tech jazz, he is devoted to a more traditional way of presenting music and feels more aligned with artists not limited by genres or eras. New, old, fast, slow, soulful, or rough. For Jan, the juxtaposition of all this is what DJing is about.Even though the majority of his work is dance music, this broad approach allowed him to operate in different scenes. Remix for a Brazilian legend Ivan Mamão Conti (Azymuth) on the legendary Far Out Recordings, remixes for a German jazz-funk band Key Elements on Jazzanova's Sonar Kollektiv label, a solo 12” under CVER alias on Oye Black Label, and a track on Deep Inspiration Show Records' ‘Family Things Volume 1' all came out in a period of a single year. The last project to hit 2020, though, were reinterpretations of Radojka Sverko's ‘Kud Plovi Ovaj Brod', a special 50th-anniversary re-release of a 1970 chanson classic which holds a unique place in Croatian music folklore. In 2021, Jan is continuing the string of releases for BBE Records, PDV Records, Get Physical, and Deep Inspiration Show Records. On top of that, a debut record from Cycle Records, his recently launched label, is coming out. Titled "For A Minute", a 12" features two of Jan's original versions, and two remixes from a Chicago house legend Gene Hunt.In parallel with working on his own music, Jan's had a decade-long run lecturing on the subject of ‘History of Electronic Music' at the Music & Sound department of United Pop Academy, still ongoing, and is running CYCLE - a studio, and music production company based in Zagreb.Contact us here to book Jan for a DJ show, live performance, or lecture/workshopJoin us next time for another episode of the Decisive podcast series, where we'll continue to explore the stories and sounds shaping the world of music today. Until then, stay tuned and stay inspired."

There are DJs, then there are DJs who capture—and live—a moment in dance music's evolution. Born in Los Angeles, but based in New York for the better half of a decade, Akua has established herself as the latter, an important voice in the North American techno scene. Akua's DJing practice is fueled by her research in the '90s techno music archive, with a special interest in the history and roots of techno within America. Akua's sets are raw extensions of the foundations laid by the pioneers of '90s U.S. techno. Most prominently, the work and influence of DJs like Jeff Mills, Claude Young and Jay Denham can all be heard across her mixes, as well as the spirit of Underground Resistance. Her interest in fast-paced techno comes from these traditions as well as own individualist streak—while there's no shortage of DJs who play high-BPM techno, you won't hear anyone else play it quite like she does. Her old-school meets new-school sound has catapulted her from the New York underground into the European techno circuit, where recent gigs have seen her perform at dance music institutions like Berghain and Dekmantel. Akua's RA Podcast is her in full-throttle mode, featuring all the stripped-down, hypnotic groove of early techno aside rushes of searing acid, carefully speeding up until closing at a healthy sprint. @akua_dj Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/878
Today we welcome back Peter Sweeney better known as Rustal to the Four Four premiere series, as the RLSD boss features on Diffuse Reality. We premiere the track ‘Pixies Return' a dark and cloudy take on classic dub techno with Rustal's signature rolling grooves at the helm of an addictive rhythm. Peter Sweeney better known as Rustal joins Diffuse Reality with his mini-album ‘Nexus Zeal' which is due for release on the 12th of December. Rustal joins the labels formidable list of previous of previous releases which includes work from Sunil Sharpe, Dez Williams, Orlando Voorn, Marcel Dettmann, Mary Velo, Zadig and more. Rustal's sound is heavily influenced by authoritative techno figures, wether it be Claude Young, Steve Rachmad, Shifted or Moritz von Oswald, the Dublin native is known for extensively delving into classic and contemporary techno sounds. Peter's obsession for cavernous techno experimentation has landed him in some elite clubs, cities, parties and played alongside some of the world's finest. Diffuse Reality has become one of the most powerful establishments within modern techno. The label was founded in Barcelona in 2013 and has since become a hotbed for forward thinking and cultivated techno from a variety of established and dexterous artists. The lables previous releases from some of the most prominent names within techno culture speak for themselves, and the label has been devoted to sculpting a home for dynamic techno for just under a decade. Rustal's six track contribution to Diffuse Reality show's the Dublin native at his very best. The RLSD boss stretches loops and expands on cavernous grooves with great ease. Winding sequences and deep-seated synth cycles meet rolling low end & shuffling percussive grooves for a mini album that simply scream techno funk. We premiere an all Irish techno weapon from Rustal with Jon Hussey on remix duties for the newly formed Circuit Structure Records label curated by Offtrack. Jon's remix is pure and pounding broken techno at it's very best, hypnotic synth lines lay across hammering bass drum and percussion hits to brutal effect. Simple but effective the concept has been in label owner Offtrack's mind & in the making for the last two years. Circuit – A synonym for Loop. Loop driven techno of many structures. All things bleepy with a hint of the sound from the 90s. Jon Hussey creates expertly crated techno, that is categorically deep, rolling and packed with intricate rhythmic touches, but when speaking about Jon, categorising it is utterly pointless, as his evolution as a DJ and producer is incessant. Jon has released music on Irish imprints Earwiggle, Delinquent Delivery and RLSD. His collaborations with the late Stuey Lyons [R.I.P.] are thought to be some of his best work, receiving widespread notoriety and support from some of the leading techno DJs in the world. Jon also notably had his work on RLSD remixed by Japanese techno icon Takaaki Itoh. Jon's remix is dripping with Slovakian techno flavour, similar to the sounds of the early 2000's that were championed by DJ Boss, Bas Mooy, Jeroen Liebregts and more. The is a golden & dynamic loop, thrusting over pounding low end and sharp percussive grooves. This is simply beautiful. This week's Local Selection Mix is a meaty live recording from Rustal in the Sugar Club for RLSD Records. Peter Sweeney better known as Rustal brought the his machines for a workout of just under an hour of techno funk. Rustal is one of Dublin's most accomplished techno act's at this very present moment. The regular fixture in Dublin's techno scene, can be found laying it down in venues across the city, wether it be a live set or behind a set of decks, Rustal has a pedigree for deep and driving techno excursions. Over the course of Rustal's extensive career he has regularly played in Berlin with a key performance in the fabled Tresor booth alongside Deniro, Mareena and more. Rustal has also thrown down in the home of techno, Detroit which is the end goal for many techno DJ and performers. The Dublin native has also notably played alongside techno titans such as DJ Bone, Luke Slater, Surgeon and more. Rustal's contribution to the Local Selection is deep, pounding and dubby trip through a selection of analogue hardware, with the Korg Electribe Emx-1 being the heart of the set-up. Rustal glides through warped synth lines, piercing acid cuts and jacking flavours, with absolute ease. As alway's with live set's, moving between moods and nuances can be tricky to make it cohesive, but Rustal holds the energy with immense poise and the trip is ultimately coherent. Raw and honest techno inspired by the past, but with eye's firmly on the future. What happens if you combine Crystal Castles, Bark Psychosis, Claude Young, L.S.G, Daft Punk, Tiësto and Deftones? You get ‘End Of Sleep' by Baby Blue!Sophia Briggs is the mind behind an album that really peaked our interest earlier this year - a sort of mid-90's trance dream shot through the nightmare of the beginning of the start of the pandemic in 2020. After sharing some laughs over an Alanis Morisette comparison and having our interest peaked even further after discovering the album is constructed of no less than 500 samples, we new we had to invite Sophia on the show, which she kindly accepted!Over the course of this interview, we discuss Sofia's early years, getting into DJing, the Canadian music scene and her involvement in running the party s.M.i.L.e. We then move onto Sofia's relationship with Planet Euphorique, the story behind ‘End Of Sleep', her approach to sampling, production techniques and her vast pool of influences, from the likes of Detroit masters such as Claude Young and John Beltran, mid 90-s & early 2000's Tresor records, Trance, Electro and Electro Clash. We finish by discussing Sofia's plans for the future and some of her favourite current music, which you can support via the Buy Music Club link below. We kick off a busy week of premiers with remix from seminal techno & house producer Dan Curtin, as he remixes Dublin based ZOiD, who has been carving a carving a genre bending sound through electronic and jazz experiments. Metamorphic Recordings has established itself as a household name in the worlds of discriminating house and low-end oriented techno, and the label's 39th release is proof that they aren't slowing down. ZOiD, a Dublin-based electronic and jazz musician, is the artist of choice here, exhibiting his genre-bending style with two sleek and imaginative pieces that serve as the narrative for the ‘Dexaphonic EP.' The originals are in good company, as game pioneer John Tejada contributes a remix on the A side, while label founder Dan Curtin contributes a remix on the B side. ZOiD has carved a slice of Irish dance music history for himself as joins Metamorphic Recordings, his record lyes aside dance music royalty including; Terrence Parker, HMC, Juan Atkins, Ian Pooley, Claude Young, Mark Broom, Blake Bakter, Neil Landstrumm & many more. ZOiD's debut on the influential imprint spans through glistening Chicago influenced house right through to wonky Bleep techno from Leeds, but on this occasion the machines are chiming from the Emerald Isle as ZOiD releases arguably his most accomplished work to date. Dan Curtin's remix of 9713Poochy breathes an alternative lease of life into the original with his unconventional sound. The crisp broken drums create an irresistible groove, allowing the ethereal textures to work their magic. This is classic stuff from one of the greatest. We premiere Scottish electronic music royalty, Vince Watson. The now Netherlands based artist returns for his incredible 13th album, which is no mean feat for any musician. Vince has had a massive year with releases on Get Physical, Tronic, SushiTech, All Day I Dream, his own Everysoul Audio and a host of remixes. Vince ends 2021 by presenting his label's biggest and most adventurous release to date, ‘DnA [re]Sequenced'. This is also accompanied by the [re]Sequenced Sampler which features 3 brand new mixes from the DnA album by Vince himself. The album also features some of electronic music titans including Carl Craig, Claude Young, Jon Dixon, Steve Rachmad, John Beltran, Shawn Rudiman, Stephen Lopkina and Stephen Brown. After the massive response to Watson's ‘DnA' album in 2019, Vince had wanted to carve a different spin on the LP by having some of the tracks remixed by his favourite Detroit ‘flavoured' artists from the three places that have influenced his music: Scotland, Amsterdam, Detroit. We premiere his track ‘First Wave [808 Mix]'. The track is reminiscent of some classic Galaxy 2 Galaxy records from Underground Resistance. A punchy but still funky 808 drum workout locks in the groove while angelic style synth work transcends you to space. Warm and fluffy pads simmer through the track while a powerful baseline runs through your body, the heavenly lead bounces around the track with an entrancing melody. The track is powerful, euphoric and tranquil all at the one time. This is proper electronic music. Bio: He's your favorite DJ's favorite producer. Your heroes are his friends. His mentors are legendary figures in dance music. You may not recognize his name-but you should. Kevin M. Kennedy (AKA FBK, The Sleep Engineer) has been creating techno, house and experimenting with sound and space since the early 1990s. His work has been featured on labels as divergent and diverse as Soiree Records International and MDR. Born in Columbus, Ohio (exactly 3hr 13 minutes from Detroit), Kevin had the fortune to meet and work with legendary producers and Djs Daniel Bell and Anthony 'Shake' Shakir, and learn even more from Claude Young jr. and Jay Denham in his formative years-releasing on the Frictional imprint as FBK. His “Knobs and Switches” EP set dance floors alight and became a 'classic,' recently being reissued by Matt Edwards' R-Tyme imprint 20 years after its initial release. FBK has never stopped experimenting: His sound is hard yet hypnotic, rooted in minimalism but always focused upon keeping the groove while exploring the spaces in between the notes. FBK has been performing live since 1994 and Djing since 1988. His live show is energetic, powerful and never fails to disappoint. His minimalism continues with his setup-believing in portability and versatility over anything. Producer since 1990 - Live Act since 1990 - DJ since 1992 from Berlin/ Germany As bold as ever, House and Techno music has always been at the centre of Mijk van Dijk's musical universe, the place he calls his ‘microglobe'. Not satisfied with only mixing moving beats and emotive sounds, Mijk is dedicated to spreading a message through song titles, samples and his own lyrics. The idea of a microglobe: sharing ideas and music with people across an ever more connected planet and the facets of electronic music just being audible continents in a world of music continues to shape his artistic imagination. Throughout a career that now spans 28 years in electronic music alone, Mijk has produced with and for a diverse number of artists, including DJ Hell, Claude Young, Takkyu Ishino, Thomas Schuhmacher, DJ Rok, Toby Izui, Tanith, Cosmic Baby, Namito, Rummy Sharma, Rob Acid, Tom Wax and Martin Eyerer. He has also remixed Moby, Denki Groove, 2raumwohnung, GTO, Frankie Bones, Humate and Emmanuel Top, to name but a few. One of his most acclaimed productions to date – the Marmion tune Schöneberg – was conceived in collaboration with Marcos López and is considered as one of the eternal classics in House and Techno. Mijk has toured worldwide and developed an especially strong bond with fans in Japan, where he released on major and independent labels, such as Sony Music and Frogman Records. Being a practiced musician Mijk van Dijk has played live to audiences of tens of thousands, as well as jamming with music artists of different disciplines and genres. His DJ sets may often include live elements such as drum machines and effects, making each a fresh and exclusive experience. Microglobe is now home to all the different shades of Mijk's musical style. It began as a project name under which he released his first album Afreuropamericasiaustralica and now represents his new label microglobe musik produktion which merges all the influences of Mijk's music in one distinctive musical message. The first offering is the EP “Peace 4 All”, released on September 14th 2018. Other recent releases include his remixes for German electronic pop duo 2raumwohnung, T-Raum (Vienna), Henning Richter (Berlin), Sub Human Bros (Japan) and the latest “Schöneberg” remixes by Tim Engelhardt, 2raumwohnung and Der Dritte Raum. Mijk van Dijk was already called Multi-Mijk by Germany's leading Techno mag Frontpage in the early 90s. This is truer today than ever before.

Welcome everyone to another episode of the Decisive Podcast Series, the first for this month of December and I hope you all are in positive spirits as we get closer to the Christmas Holidays Season 2020. Today you get a great program with a lot of interesting topic information about recording, production, studio gear, plugins, not to forget an in depth conversation about my experienced guest Jan Kincl Cycle Zagreb PDV Records, Far Out Recordings, Oye Black Label. Jan Kincl is a Zagreb-born house and techno dj, producer, live act performer, radio host and a party promoter. Through almost two decades in all this, it’s hard to scratch the surface of electronic music in Croatia without coming across something he’s been involved with. Raised by the music of Motor City, Jan’s sound is a combination of house and techno, unmistakably rooted in the more organic and soulful side of it. In recent years, Jan’s forays into jazz became deeper, and in 2016 resulted in a collaboration with a French keyboard player Regis Kattie. The pair quickly became one of the most prominent regional acts and their debut album, a deeply jazz-informed house record ’In Plain Sight’ got described as “one of the most significant pieces of regional contemporary dance music”; with Laurent Garnier, Jazzanova, Volcov, Tony Humphries, Lefto, Claude Young and Kai Alce amongst its supporters. Hello Dear Friends, ESOA Podcast 18 calls and comes with my dear old friend and DJ colleague EMU. Emu started in 1998 in a nice community of the Sumpf Squad Crew. Because of his fast handicraft mixing and scratching he quickly became regionally known and in the course of this he quickly got a residence in the old "Club Achtermai" and Seilfabrik in Zwickau. His sound spectrum has always been influenced by names such as Bad Boy Bill, Takkyu Ishino or DJ Godfather and therefore clearly moves somewhere between Ghettotech, Chicago and Detroit. The words "Yeah Man Yeah Man!" from none other than Claude Young have always inspired his DJ craft. His mix for us today is what he himself calls "Detroit - Chicago Express" and there is nothing more to add to that. Enjoy ESOA Podcast 018 from Emu right here and now. Thanks for listening. He's your favorite DJ's favorite producer. Your heroes are his friends. His mentors are legendary figures in dance music. You may not recognize his name-but you should. Kevin M. Kennedy ( AKA FBK, The Sleep Engineer ) has been creating techno, house and experimenting with sound and space since the early 1990s. His work has been featured on labels as divergent and diverse as Rekids, R-Time Records, Absoloop Orange, Soiree Records International and MDR. Born in Columbus, Ohio ( exactly 3hr 13 minutes from Detroit ), Kevin had the fortune to meet and work with legendary producers and Djs Daniel Bell and Anthony 'Shake' Shakir, and learn even more from Claude Young jr. and Jay Denham in his formative years-releasing on the Frictional imprint as FBK. His unique DJ sets are filled with unreleased material and edits, always pushing the crowd to dance. 2019 was a banner year for the artist: Seeing his first album, “More Stories From the Future” released on Rekids, along with his first visit to Berlin, performing at Griessmuehle. 2020 sees the artist with new releases on Knotweed, and another album planned for Rekids, along with tunes from his previous album being remixed by Len Faki. *ABOUT THE MIX*: This is a recording of the first hour of a marathon, nearly 3 hour live performance from FBK, from an undisclosed time and place that only exists when you are there. Like all performances from FBK, it is live, off-the-cuff, and unplanned. Each performance is different, based upon the room, audience, and energy of the universe in that particular locale. Salmassi’s music career began in 1997 when she founded her first label Konsequent, on which she released music by artists such as The Advent, Claude Young, Jay Denham, Christian Morgenstern, Fanon Flowers, Alexander Kowalski, Oliver Rosemann, Zadig and many others. In 1998 she co-founded the Cologne-based Techno and Electro distribution company Formic, which served as one of the most radical distributors of Detroit Techno and abstract electronica and was the sole European distributor for many underground labels like Underground Resistance, Direct Beat, KMS or Seventh City. Additionally, in 1999 she formed the media label Art Of Perception, releasing music of artists like Jimmy Tenor, Alter Ego, Michael Mayer and Andrew Weatherall to name a few. 2006 brought the beginning of Television Rocks, a platform for her solo projects but also numerous releases by her friends Fukkk Offf, The Sneekers, Zombie Nation, The Sexinvaders and Tenderlions, among others. A few years later ( 2010 ) Maral's single Let’s Rock the Party, a collaboration with Hamburg-based artists Fukkk Offf, became a massive club hit and jumped to number 1 on the Beatport charts. In 2011 she teamed up with "Die Boys" of the famous German Hip-Hop group “Deichkind“ under the name “Die Boys & Ein Girl“, touring with Four Music on their unique blend of Old School and New School Hip- Hop DJ sets. Later that year, she also formed the DJ team “Return of the Amazons” with Melissa Logan of “Chicks on Speed”. Over the last decade, Salmassi has worked behind the scenes. Now, after a long hiatus, Salmassi has both relaunched the Konsequent techno label and begun to produce music again. Through her wealth of experience in many genres, her current project is a new direction and a unique context of today’s electronic music scene. TRACKLIST: 1. Late 1999 I descended the steps into a murky basemment whose walls were slick with sweat and vibrated with the incessant rap of a four four beat somewhere in the realm of 135 to 140bpms. At the foot of the stairs the bar lined the left side of the wall, whilst scattered chairs and stools occupied the right hand side of the passage. Ahead lay the barely visible dancefloor. Amongst the spewing action of the smoke machine, limbs writhed and contorted like a Chris Cunningham video. A red strobe light cut geometric patterns into the haze and the sweet/sickly stench of hash and weed fought for their hierarchy amongst body odour and spilt beer. Ecstatic screams and aggressive, yet high pitched shouts of pleasure somehow placed themselves above the frenetic frequencies that filled my ears and mind. Tribal drums, scything hi-hats and cymbals and that unrelenting four to the floor beat poured over me, drenched me and elevated me above the temporal here and know. Physically and spiritually I was undergoing a life changing and life affirming transformation - nothing would be the same again. That was my first experience of Voodoo in Liverpool, UK one of the premier Techno nights that ran in Britain. James Ruskin was on the ones and twos and I was to see him play again over the following years at the Orbit in Leeds and Atomic Jam in Birmingham to name but two. Week in, week out I went all over the UK following this sound and the purveyors of this music. Lost in London, House of God in Birmingham, Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke, Space DJz, Oliver Ho, Robert Hood, DJ Rush, Regis, Surgeon, Claude Young and many, many more. Following their examples I got myself decks and a mixer (and an healthy appetite for buying vinyl) and attempted to create those moments of musical magic and bliss in the confines of my bedroom. Like an acolyte of the occult and magick, my pentagrams, melted candles and burnt offerings were the platters of 1210s and the faders of a Pioneer DJM600 with an apparently never ending supply of virgin vinyl. And so, 16 years later I find myself still in the confines of my 'bedroom' attempting to conjure up the Techno spirits of yore, but 1210s have transmogrified into a Traktor S4 and black circles of wax have become files of flac and 320 - yet still I like to believe that the essence and dynamism has remained:, that ability of instigating emotions and memories and rejuvenating the dark beauty of that thing we know and love called Techno. Words by the man himself, Phuriphnics. Head to www.bomphcast.com for track listing. @phuriphonics http://phuriphonics.blogspot.com.au/
Live hardware set from Sydney-local Simon Mann... Simon Mann has been playing and making electronic music for close to 20 years. Originally focussing on hip-hop and hip-house sounds of the 80's and 90's, Simon eventually gravitated toward house and techno after finding the joys of DJ-ing to a club crowd in the mid 90's. Sighting early influences such as local heroes HMC, GT, Pocket, Head Affect and the rest of the Thunk Records crew, as well as international techno luminaries like Jeff Mills, Carl Craig and Claude Young, Simon's taste has always been in the darker more underground sounds rather that upfront club tunes. After taking 'runner up' position in Sydney's Radio Dex Bedroom Bangers competition in the early 2000's, the DJ-ing opportunities opened up considerably for Simon and he found himself playing alongside some of Sydney's most respected jocks including Phil Smart, Simon Caldwell, Ben Korbel, Ken Cloud, Ajax and Mark Murphy. Simon's interest in production had always been in the background and a small studio of electronic instruments was developed over time. Most production work was done as part of the band We'd up until mid-2000 when Simon started to focus on solo productions with earnest. Simon's sound has evolved into an exploration of deep house, techno and dub techno elements. Currently Simon performs live electronic sets using a combination of hardware and software to create his unique compositions. The podcast recorded for DHA is a hardware set recorded live in one take. To create his sound Simon currently uses an Elektron Analog 4, Yamaha Cs6x and Rm1x, Roland TR606 and TR8, Korg Volca Bass and Sample, Pioneer EFX500. Signal processing and effects are carried out through Ableton Live Suite. Simon releases music on Etui Records (Germany), Lobe Limbique Musique, East Point Sounds, Lamb Shanks Digital, Highjack Recordings (Ukraine) and Pinksilver Digital. What kind of "sound" can we expect from Kaelan? The sound can be described as functional techno with hints of soul. 3. Whats up over there in Italy? Techno tips? I think there are some really interesting upcoming artists, proposing inspiring music... I can think for example at Roberto Bosco, Stenny, Emanuele Pertoldi or my partner in crime Hydergine... they are making outstanding stuff! 4. Whats up with you in the future? Releases, parties, etc Well, i have some ep that will be out in the next year. There is an upcoming vinyl release on my label Subosc, then, another one on Emmanuel's label "Arts". Next to this there will be a follow up ep on Ranges with my bro Roberto Hydergine, an album with "2030" moniker on Suburban Avenue and a lot of new stuff that must be released. About parties i'll play with Par Grindvik next 20/12 here in italy. Artwork: AK Rockefeller - Half Rome https://www.flickr.com/photos/akrockefeller/10401709234/

A prophet without a vision. A song without a melody. A deejay without a hype. We welcome: @juhokahilainen, a Finnish Dj and producer who started his career by pushing techno tracks back in the nineties. Brock dj/producer : techno Brock developed a love for Techno in the early 1990s while attending all-night warehouse parties in Detroit. He drew most of his musical influences from the likes of Jeff Mills, Claude Young, Twonz, Murat, and Eric Haupt. Although initially favoring the harder, acid end of the techno spectrum, over the years his taste grew to include deeper, funkier vibes. He has played at clubs and parties in places like Detroit, Chicago, and Florida, but always mixed records more for his love of music than a profession. In 2001 he stepped away from everything to focus on school and family. In 2011 the draw of techno finally got him again. Remaining true to his underground roots, his sets are always energy filled and track selection is always quality…both old and new. http://soundcloud.com/brock-5 http://facebook.com/brock.birchmeier BWLR-P012 Brock, Detroit, MI, US
Proudly presenting for our episode 15 MATT RISSI as our special guest this Sunday recording an exclusive mix for us! One of the Midwest's cornerstone techno promoters, producers, deejays & iconic inspirators responsible for exposing this music to that we all love to his own backyard with the force of a 50 ton bull dozer. For over 14 years Matt has been hosting & sharing stages & line ups with some of the world’s most respected underground artists (Chris Liebing, Richie Hawtin, Grooverider, Claude Young, Christopher Lawrence, Tommie Sunshine, Stewart Walker, Drumcell, Kyle Geiger, DJ Misjah, Acid Circus, Mike Gervais, Dustin Zahn, DVS1, Frankie Bones, Dieselboy, Woody McBride, Derrick Carter, Donald Glaude, Terrence Parker & many more). He does so with the sole intent of fueling a passion for groove that he embraces with 100% conviction & dedication. Locally, he’s at the forefront of a movement, leading with torch in hand… Nationally, he takes to a bigger stage with the means to completely steal the show. Over the course of his promoting career he’s developed his own rendition of a DJ performance that has become unparalleled by his peers. His fierce presence behind a mixer has led to his domination of line ups while devastating the hundreds of dance floors he’s met face to face. His malicious attempts to captivate crowds through technical & explosive mixing techniques have granted him the ability to engage even the most timid of audiences. A record collection of nearly 10,000 pieces of vinyl paints a detailed story about where he’s been musically since the beginning of his pulsating addiction. Now armed with the capabilities of digital DJ’ing equipment & software he is able to take screaming crowds on a journey that is not limited to boundaries or restrictions. On the fly remixing, splicing, editing & looping allow his performances to possess an expanding capacity of erotic color & you can bet that you’re going to experience a unique set built for the moment every time you see him play. This is and will continue to be the reason that he’s earned the respect of various globetrotting talents while being invited all over the country to rock stages alongside some of the most hard hitting techno players on the planet. As a producer, his initial debut was released on Chicago’s Zuvuya Recordings with partner & good friend Mustafa Avdic leading to a spotlight on Music Man’s ‘I Love Techno 2007’ compilation mixed by none other than the legendary Dave Clarke. A few years later Dustin Zahn featured his own rework of their ‘Them Crocks’ stormer on an Enemy Recordings remix EP released digitally as well as on vinyl. His original tracks & remixes have also been signed by Klientele & Giant Squid while as the head of his own Solar Cathedral Recordings digital imprint he’s put out 19 releases featuring artists from all over the globe. His original tunes have been receiving plays & support from all corners of the world while being hammered in front of some of the most well versed techno aficionados on the floor. While DJ’ing is Matt’s strong suit, he plans to accelerate his studio efforts in hopes of releasing more original music over the course of the upcoming years. 1.)Dave Avid/Red & White Balloons/Plan-B Records 2.)Samuel L. Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground MovementWith the release of her solo STOP EP on Minus, Magda can finally afford to take stock of a whirlwind few years that have seen the insatiable demand for her very special blend of house and techno carry her the length and breadth of the globe. November 2005 and Magda’s set is reaching its climax at London’s Fabric. One moment she’s pounding the crowd with her very own 48 Hour Crack In Your Bass, the next the hairs on the back of 500 necks simultaneously stand to attention as the moody chords from Strafe’s all time classic Set It Off produce a collective gasp of appreciation from the dancefloor. She’s in the zone, unphased by the raucous response she’s generating. Virtually hidden by the racks of fx units and monitors surrounding her, she remains a picture of calmness, dictating the play with a cool hand. It’s easy to see why she’s one of the most exciting prospects to breakthrough in recent years. Magda makes things happen. Always has done, always will do. Currently residing in Berlin, a relative stone’s throw from her home town of Zywiec in Poland considering the nomadic existence of her childhood, she seems to have finally found a city that mirrors her own attitude to life - no restrictions and certainly no compromise. It’s a philosophy that also flows through Magda’s music particularly during her after hour sets. The ability to guide her audience through the dark recesses of contemporary minimalism before delivering them back safely into the light means her name is never far from the lips of discerning clubbers and fellow DJs alike. Her family left Zywiec for Texas in 1984 when she was nine before finally settling in Detroit in 1986. All this traveling around from one starkly contrasting environment to another, taught her to deal with new challenges and to adapt to new situations pretty quickly, lessons that have subsequently helped her deal with the often hectic life of a touring DJ. Always the outsider, the concept of ‘home’ was never as straightforward as it is for some. Sometimes though, home isn’t a physical location, it’s a state of mind and when she first turned up at a warehouse party a couple of blocks from where she’d grown up in the tough district of Hamtramck, she knew she’d found it. This initial foray into the Detroit underground culminated in the mind-blowing experience that was Spastik - Richie Hawtin’s first Plastikman PA. She was hooked. Within a few months, armed with a cheap pair of belt drive turntables and an unquenchable thirst for vinyl, she’d moved from one side of the shop counter to the other at the influential Record Time store and had also persuaded the bar where she worked to put on a monthly techno night with Claude Young and Daniel Bell. Her enthusiasm was totally infectious and they soon asked her to warm up for them. In conversation it’s clear to see how much the lack of attitude and unconditional support from Bell in particular has shaped Magda’s own way of doing things. Then, inspired by her mother’s ‘dark and surreal’ art she decided to study Graphic Design in New York state but soon realized music was the most natural medium for her self expression. Nevertheless, this abstract influence can still be found in her music production, juxtaposing as she does warm, thick swathes of sound with jagged little hi hat patterns, sometimes lazy, sometimes clinical but always purposeful and expressive. On returning to Detroit she met Richie Hawtin at one of the legendary Hot Box parties where a mutual friend introduced her. It was the first of what turned out to be a couple of chaotic encounters that eventually led to the invitation of a gig at Hawtin’s 13 Below night. It was there she first met Marc Houle. Their off-beat humor quickly developed into an unshakeable friendship and Magda was soon lodging with Marc in Windsor where their musical symbiosis started laying the foundations for 2003’s Run Stop Restore project together with Troy Pierce. By this time she’d already cut her teeth on the main stage, regularly performing at the System raves in Detroit and as part of the Women on Wax collective. Things don’t always go according to plan though, and by 1999 Magda was pretty much fed up with the ‘scene politics’ that seemed directly at odds with the feelings she’d first encountered. She took a step back, followed her heart and immersed herself in the minimal sounds scuttling out of Germany in particular (i.e Brinkmann, Perlon, Kompakt). The resulting bootleg CD mix - Fact and Friction - won her a new set of admirers and consolidated her growing relationship with Hawtin, opening for him at the millennium celebration EPOK and also forming part of an enviable line up at the Plus 8 ten year anniversary party From Our Minds To Yours. Since then she has become his sole choice as opening DJ, accompanying him on both European and Stateside tours. The new millennium brought a host of new digital technology with it, most notably Final Scratch and when she wasn’t on the road she could be found wiling away the hours transferring Hawtin’s vast record collection into the digital domain. At the time there were only about ten DJs using Final Scratch and while others regarded it with suspicion, Magda was quick to see the potential, re-editing her favorite tracks to further enhance the distinctive flavor of her sets. She shies away slightly from the ubiquitous ‘minimal’ tag, citing Chicago Jack and Acid as equally significant ingredients in her sound but whichever way you look at it, she is part of a movement that is rapidly redefining electronic dance music as we know it. Turntables, laptops, samplers and efx units now clutter her DJ booth as the wall between traditional DJing and ‘on the fly’ production starts to crumble. And so, the Minus train rumbles on, forging a relentless path through new, uncharted territory. Magda however, remains refreshingly free from the burden of expectation. Genuinely surprised by the trajectory her life has taken yet deeply aware of the responsibility she has to her growing army of fans, she faces the future with the same wide-eyed, ‘devil may care’ attitude that has always accompanied her from city to city, from airport to airport, from disco to disco. A lonely existence? For some maybe but Magda knows more than most that home is where the heart is. Berlin is a fickle friend, a city that throws up unlimited scope and unseen perils in equal measures. A muse to some - spurring them on to new heights of creativity, a vampire’s kiss to others - intoxicating at first, it eventually sucks them dry, leaving a hollow shell with nothing left but dreams of what might have been. Luckily, Magda already had something of the night about her when she arrived in 2003 and, liberated from the clutches of New York’s draconian attitude to club culture, she took to the Berlin underground like a fish to water. The notorious Beatstreet afterhour parties got the energy coursing through her veins once more and she immediately set about reevaluating and redefining her relationship to the music. An intense flurry of activity followed. Together with Troy Pierce and Marc Houle, Magda began exploring new production possibilities, honing her turntable skills and extending her dj sets in order to satisfy the insatiable appetites of Berlin’s club kids. The transition was by no means straight forward, taking both time and dedication but the hybrid sound that emerged, drawing inspiration from the twin towers of Berlin and Detroit, has gone on to capture the imagination of clubbers the world over. In this sense, last year’s mix compilation She’s a Dancing Machine represents the first volume of her audio-biography and sums up the ambition that drives this diminutive figure behind the decks. Somehow finding the time to throw down an epic 70 track, multi-layered excursion between the 130 shows she clocked up in 2006 (never mind the afterhours) really cemented her reputation, topping off a year that also saw her hold successful residencies at Robert Johnson (Offenbach), Technique (Leeds) and Fuse (Brussels) plus numerous appearances at festivals around the globe such as Lowlands, Sonar, The Detroit Music Festival and Mutek. Yet despite reaching the enviable position of being able to choose her gigs, there is no room for complacency. Shouldering the increasing weight of expectation she has come to expect the unexpected, in fact adversity has often propelled her on to greater things. There’s also a sense of duty to keep pushing the envelope and this year she’ll be expanding her set-up to incorporate new technology in addition to the delay pedals and edits that already give her sets their distinctive flavour. It’s a move that should blur the boundaries between studio production and live performance even further and will no doubt help formulate ideas for her upcoming album which promises to be another continuous exploration into deep, dark, minimal disco. However before that there’s a string of remixes to enjoy for 2007 including Heartthrob’s Baby Kate (Minus), Gotham Road by Ryan Crosson (Trapez) and Louderbach (Underline). It’s also worth keeping an eye on Items and Things, the new label from Magda, Marc and Troy that’s home to their more abstract, off the wall creations. Someone once said‚ the only place success comes before work is in the dictionary. Well, Magda has definitely put in the work although she’s happier leaving the definition of success to others. The arrival is superfluous. Just like her late night musical excursions, it’s the journey that’s important and with it the desire to maintain the high standards she sets and feed the creative hunger within - if that’s also good enough for us, then so be it.
