Bible Reading in Public Schools Sparks Controversy

Bill introduced to require Bible reading in all public schools, sparking constitutional questions - NewsBreakNewsBreak, By LAURA GUIDO, on February 7, 2025https://www.newsbreak.com/share/3794686379971-bill-introduced-to-require-bible-reading-in-all-public-schools-sparking-constitutional-questionsIdaho lawmakers are considering a bill that would require daily Bible readings in public schools, specifically from the King James Version (KJV) or New King James Version (NKJV). Introduced by Representative Jordan Redman and backed by the Idaho Family Policy Center, the legislation mandates that an occupied classroom in every school district read the Bible sequentially each morning, completing the entire book over ten years. The bill's proponents argue that this has historical merit, as Bible readings were common in public schools before the 1960s. However, opponents point out that such a law would be a clear violation of the First Amendment's Establishment Clause, which prohibits government endorsement of religion. Critics argue that this initiative is not just unconstitutional but also fundamentally ineffective in fostering faith, as passive, mandatory exposure to scripture without discussion or interpretation is unlikely to inspire genuine belief. The comparison is made to literature classes—no teacher would require students to read To Kill a Mockingbird without analysis or engagement. The plan, which dictates a rigid reading schedule, would subject students to some of the Bible's more controversial and inappropriate content, such as violent passages or sexually explicit themes, raising concerns about age appropriateness and teacher preparedness. Some skeptics suggest that the plan could backfire, as forcing students to sit through lengthy, archaic passages from the KJV—a version known for its difficult language—may bore them into disinterest. There is also the issue of Christian exclusivity, as the law would not require readings from other religious or philosophical texts, effectively promoting one religious tradition in a public education setting. Even within Christianity, the KJV is not universally accepted, with many denominations—including Catholics—not considering it a primary translation. The bill's opt-out clause, which requires parental permission, is also controversial. Critics argue that default participation assumes that Christianity is the norm and that non-Christian students must actively excuse themselves, which could ostracize them. Furthermore, precedent from cases like Abington School District v. Schempp has already determined that mandatory Bible readings in public schools are unconstitutional, reinforcing the argument that this legislation would not stand up to legal scrutiny. There is broader concern that this is part of a larger effort to push Christian nationalism, using historical precedent as justification. However, as critics point out, historical precedent does not inherently validate a practice—slavery, segregation, and other outdated societal norms were once common but are now rightfully condemned. The push to integrate religious teachings into public institutions appears to be less about historical tradition and more about maintaining ideological control in an increasingly secular society. Ultimately, this bill is viewed by opponents as a blatant attempt to erode the separation of church and state, forcing religious doctrine into public education under the guise of tradition. Supporters claim it is a benign acknowledgment of America's Christian heritage, but the reality is that it privileges one religious group at the expense of everyone else. With significant legal hurdles and widespread opposition, this legislation is likely to face strong challenges, both in the courtroom and in public discourse. The Non-Prophets, Episode 24.7.3 featuring Scott Dickie, Stephen Harder, Helen Greene and The Ejector SeatBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin and Chuck Schumer salvaged a deal on an economic bill they dubbed “The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022” that places new fees on methane emissions and devotes hundreds of billions of dollars to climate change initiatives, according to the bill’s text. The proposed legislation would place new taxes on energy firms’ methane emissions beginning in 2025, invest nearly $370 billion in “energy security and climate change” and spend billions to protect disadvantaged communities from the effects of climate change. The package will spend $60 billion on protecting low-income areas and communities of color that are more affected by environmental pollution. The bill will also offer large sums of money to the green industry, including direct-pay options to support domestic green energy manufacturers over the next five years. “Somehow the ‘solutions’ to climate change have morphed into including $60 billion in climate reparations in the name of ‘equity,'” Marc Morano, Climate Depot publisher and former U.S. Senate senior staff on Environment & Public Works Committee, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Anyone who drinks milk or eats meat will now be paying reparations. Will the $60 billion actually help solve racism? Anyone who thinks this climate bill has anything to with the climate has not been paying attention.” The bill will raise about $739 billion in total, with a large portion of the money coming from a 15% corporate minimum tax and increased tax enforcement operations conducted by the Internal Revenue Service, as well as potential savings from enabling Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices, according to the package summary. Climate provisions in the deal also provide tax credits for electric vehicles (EVs) that can offer up to $4,000 to subsidize the purchase of used vehicles and $7,500 for new vehicles. Individuals and married couples with incomes under $75,000 and $150,00 would be eligible for the tax breaks for used electric cars, while those with incomes up to $300,000 would be eligible for the write-offs on new vehicles. The newly reached consensus on the package comes after Manchin struck down his party’s climate provisions in the bill in mid-July causing Democrats, climate activists, and green energy groups to pressure the party to reach an agreement prior to the August 5 recess. Democrats are hoping to advance the bill without Republican votes through the reconciliation process, where bills tied to the budget can pass with a simple majority. https://twitter.com/BillFOXLA/status/1552763846346977280?s=20&t=a-HUqldY9_KgPD2hB8rwtA BREAKING: @lapublichealth Director Barbara Ferrer announces L.A. The SBC get’s #MeToo’d, sex abuse allegations for pronoun abuse, and military chaplains bring a lawsuit over forced vaccines… and more on today’s CrossPolitic Daily News Brief. My name is Toby Sumpter and today is Tuesday, May 24, 2022. https://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2022/may/southern-baptist-abuse-investigation-sbc-ec-legal-survivors.html Christianity Today, the failing flagship of lukewarm evangelicalism breathlessly broke a story over the weekend, alleging a massive cover up of abuse in the Southern Baptism Convention: “Armed with a secret list of more than 700 abusive pastors, Southern Baptist leaders chose to protect the denomination from lawsuits rather than protect the people in their churches from further abuse. Survivors, advocates, and some Southern Baptists themselves spent more than 15 years calling for ways to keep sexual predators from moving quietly from one flock to another. The men who controlled the Executive Committee (EC)—which runs day-to-day operations of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC)—knew the scope of the problem. But, working closely with their lawyers, they maligned the people who wanted to do something about abuse and repeatedly rejected pleas for help and reform. “Behind the curtain, the lawyers were advising to say nothing and do nothing, even when the callers were identifying predators still in SBC pulpits,” according to a massive third-party investigative report released Sunday.” OK, people. Take a deep breath and think like a Christian. This is the same kind of language we’ve seen countless times over the last number of years, and you need to know that it is language that is calculated to get you worked up. I’m not saying anything yet about the legitimacy of any claims or accusations. I’m only talking about the set up. The set up is more #metoo outrage, which is not the way the Bible says to handle accusations of abuse or coverups. Don’t get dragged into the outrage mob. Click on the link to the so-called report, and what do we find? A trigger warning at the top of the report. Again, this doesn’t mean there isn’t anything in the report that needs to be addressed. I don’t know. I didn’t read the whole report. But what I will say is that we are living in a cauldron of hot outrage that far too many Christians are eager to jump into. And you need to know that the point of the outrage is to get you to do things you wouldn’t ordinarily do, things you really shouldn’t do. In the same way that racial animosity has been weaponized to foment social unrest, so too are accusations of sexual abuse. Is racial animosity ever happening? Yes, of course. Is sexual abuse ever happening? Unfortunately, yes. But what we need are biblical standards of justice not outrage mobs and extra biblical committees, more civil government intrusion, and various other humanistic solutions. So here are some key things to be looking for as this story unfolds: are clear distinctions being made between sins and crimes? Sins are bad, but they are the jurisdiction of families and churches. Crimes are also sins, but they must be reported to the police for adjudication. The other thing to watch out for is the necessity of two or three independent witnesses. If you have one witness who accuses and an alleged perpetrator who denies the charges, there is nothing that can be done. You are required by God to presume the innocence of the accused. It is not a cover up to refuse to do anything with an accusation of sin that has no other witnesses. If the accusation is of a crime, you must report it to the police, but believe it or not, they often follow biblical guidelines of justice and if there is no credible evidence of wrongdoing, they will not bring any charges, and it’s not a cover up, if you’ve reported a matter and done everything you can to find evidence and decide to leave the matter there. Of course if this report has documented instances with multiple witnesses who are willing to testify and those accusations were shushed and swept under the carpet, then the appropriate authorities should be called to investigate and deliberate and rule. But what the SBC should absolutely refuse to do is create new committees of abuse awareness, abuse investigation, and certainly not allow state or federal government agencies into the workings of the church. A major part of this move over the last number of years has been to try to disqualify ordained ministers from doing the job Jesus assigned them to do. In the realm of sins, the minister of the gospel is authorized by Jesus to put things right, following Biblical due process guidelines. And when a minister of the gospel does that, He is not covering anything up. He is doing his job, and sin is being covered by the blood of Jesus, by Christian (which covers multitudes of sins), and no minister should ever apologize for doing that. This year our national conference is in Knoxville, TN October 6th-8th. The theme of this year’s conference is Lies, Propaganda, Storytelling and the Serrated Edge. For many years, Christians have largely surrendered to secular stories. We have assumed that beauty is merely in the eye of the beholder, and therefore, it’s all relative. But what if beauty is objective – that if the art of persuasion is something far deeper and more profound? What if words have the power of life and death? What if our words mimic God’s words, making and breaking whole worlds? Christians must certainly stand on the solid rock of truth, but we must also recover goodness and beauty, stories and song, with all of God’s Word, even the sharp parts, at the center. Mark your calendars for October 6th-8th, as we fight, laugh and feast with fellowship, beer and Psalms, our amazing lineup of speakers, hanging with our awesome vendors, meeting new friends, and more. Early bird tickets sale now!. https://www.foxnews.com/us/middle-schoolers-sexual-harassment-gender-pronouns Speaking of the lies and propaganda. This is From a listener: Three Wisconsin boys are facing sexual harassment charges from their middle school over accusations that they used incorrect gender pronouns on a fellow student. "I received a phone call from the principal over at the elementary school, forewarning me; letting me know that I was going to be receiving an email with sexual harassment allegations against my son," Rosemary Rabidoux, a parent of one of the accused, told Fox 11 News last week. "I immediately went into shock. I’m thinking, sexual harassment? That’s rape, that’s inappropriate touching, that’s incest" Rabidoux continued. "What has my son done?" But none of the concerns Rabidoux had were at issue. Instead, her 13-year-old son, Braden, was accused of using incorrect pronouns to address another student at Kiel Middle School. "(The investigating principal) said he’s being allegedly charged with sexual harassment for not using proper pronouns," Rabidoux said. "I thought it wasn’t real. I thought this has got to be a gag, a joke – one has nothing to do with the other." Now her son and two other boys are being charged by school officials with Title IV violations, which prohibits gender-based harassment. The incident in question reportedly took place in March, when a student announced a preference of "they" and "them" to identify them. But Rabidoux said her son was merely sticking up for one of his friends. "She had been screaming at one of Braden’s friends to use proper pronouns, calling him profanity, and this friend is very soft-spoken, and kind of just sunk down into his chair," Rabidoux said. "Braden finally came up, defending him, saying ‘He doesn’t have to use proper pronouns, it’s his constitutional right to not use, you can’t make him say things.’" The mother told ABC 2 News that the new pronoun preference also caused confusion for her son, with her instructing him to just address the student by their name instead. "It’s plural. It doesn’t make sense to him. I said so, I told him to call them by their names." Rabidoux said. Now the parents are calling on the charges to be dismissed through an attorney with the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty. A few things here: First off: get your kids out of public school. Make the sacrifice. Do whatever it takes. Second: remember that it’s these same crazy people who are accusing the SBC of sexual abuse cover-ups. Again, I’m not saying there’s nothing to it. But I’m just saying we should have all kinds of skeptical when Christianity Today (that bastion of orthodusty) breathlessly shares the latest gossip. Lakewood-based Yeshiva Perchei Shoshanim, a Torah observant endorser of Chaplains to the United States Military, Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard has issued a letter that their Chaplians may apply for a religious exemption. However, the organization alleges that the Department of Defense across the board is virtually denying all religious applications to be exempt from having to vaccinate. 30 Chaplains from all branches of the service, including Air Force Chaplain Yirmeyahu Rodriguez, endorsee of Pirchei Shoshanim, have filed the lawsuit. Also named defendants, were the Secretary of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The action was filed in federal court in Tampa, FL. Davis Younts representing the Chaplains, released a press statement Saturday on behalf of his client Lt. Bill Moseley, noting that a board of three Navy officers had vindicated Lt. Moseley’s refusal to take the vaccine. However with the information coming down that the Navy and all other services intend to require blanket implementation without any religious exemptions, Lt. Moseley risked his twenty-two year career and military retirement because of his faith and commitment to his oath of office as a military leader. The lawsuit argues that members of the Chaplaincy should be allowed exemption on the basis of religion, and that it is not a lawful order to be required to take an experimental vaccine, especially since the particular version approved by the FDA is not even available to military members. The fight for freedom continues apace. Pray for the chaplains in this fight. Idaho Family Policy Center: I wanted to let you all know about Idaho Family Policy Center. Elon Musk, the CDC, States ending abortion, and the groomers are coming for your children and more on today’s CrossPolitic Daily News Brief. This is Toby Sumpter. Today is Friday, April 15, 2022. Tesla CEO Elon Musk offers to buy Twitter for $43 billion From AP: In just ten days, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has gone from popular Twitter contributor to the company’s largest individual shareholder to a would-be owner of the social platform — a whirlwind of activity that could change the service dramatically given Musk’s self-identification as a free speech absolutist. Twitter revealed in a securities filing Thursday that the sometimes whimsical billionaire has offered to buy the company outright for more than $43 billion, saying the social media platform “needs to be transformed as a private company” in order to build trust with its users. “This is not a sort of way to make money,” Musk said during an onstage interview at the TED 2022 conference Thursday. “Having a public platform that is maximally trusted and broadly inclusive is extremely important to the future of civilization.” Like other platforms, Twitter over the past several years has established restrictions on tweets that threaten violence, incite hatred, bully others and spread misinformation. Such rules played a key role in Twitter’s decision to ban former President Donald Trump following the 2021 Capitol insurrection of Jan. 6. Musk detailed some specific potential changes Thursday — like favoring temporary rather than permanent bans — but has mostly described his aim in broad and abstract terms. Twitter shares were changing hands at $44.98 in afternoon trading, down about 2% and well below Musk’s offer of $54.20 per share. That’s generally a sign that some investors doubt the deal will go through. The stock is still down from its 52-week high of about $73. Musk called that price his best and final offer, although he provided no details on financing. The offer is non-binding and subject to financing and other conditions. “I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy,” Musk said in the filing. “I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company.” Twitter said it will decide whether accepting the offer is in the best interests of shareholders. This year our national conference is in Knoxville, TN October 6th-8th. The theme of this year’s conference is Lies, Propaganda, Storytelling and the Serrated Edge. Satan is the father of lies, and the mother of those lies is a government who has rejected God. We have especially been lied to these last two years, and the COVIDpanic has been one of the central mechanisms that our government has used to lie to us and to grab more power. Because Christians have not been reading their bibles, we are susceptible to lies and weak in our ability to fight these lies. God has given us His word to fight Satan and his lies, and we need to recover all of God’s word, its serrated edge and all. Mark your calendars for October 6th-8th, as we fight, laugh and feast with fellowship, beer and Psalms, our amazing lineup of speakers, hanging with our awesome vendors, meeting new friends, and more. Early bird tickets will be available starting in the middle of March. So you remember the Gay San Francisco Men’s Choir singing “We’re coming for your children” https://twitter.com/campusevangel/status/1514460005688356869?s=20&t=3j3TG6_2K4DlW6yOo4_fJA In the aftermath of Disney claiming that they are now committed to have half or more of their characters and movies representing LGBT+ characters, and Florida daring to say they don’t want lower elementary kids getting sex education, the accusation of “Groomer” seems to have picked up some steam. Some of us have been pointing out this grooming behavior for a while, and some so-called conservatives like David French are still defending Drag Queen story house as the cost of living in a free speech world. But I just wanted to draw your attention to another so called conservative, Dave Rubin, who is openly celebrating his grooming plan. And The Blaze and Prager U are congratulating him: Dave Rubin https://youtu.be/4qRczAodeP0 0:00-0:32 I was very thankful for Allie Beth Stuckey’s response in general, except for this one spot at the very beginning where I think she misspoke: https://youtu.be/JoHUlxI-H7k 0:54-1:30 No, they will not be good fathers, Allie. As you noted later in your video, they are intentionally depriving these two children of mothers, and they are planning to raise these children, teaching them that sexuality can be literally anything they want. What Dave Rubin and his sodomite partner are doing is grooming their kids. So if we’re going to take aim at Disney (as we should), please do not forget to include Dave Rubin in the mix. He is also part of this grooming problem. He’s doing Drag Queen Story hour also, he’s just dressed up in the Drag of normal American, which in many ways is far more dangerous. But he is also coming for your children. And to the extent that DailyWire and other conservative outlets do not come out guns blazing against Rubin and his grooming, you can rest assured tha DailyWire and all their family friendly kids programing is just a few years behind Disney. CDC extends mask mandate and Thomas Massie’s response & lawsuit https://twitter.com/RepThomasMassie/status/1514422908738838531?s=20&t=Zgcm8mkwIFQQq1lkF-GLzQ No doubt you’ve heard that the CDC has extended the airline mask mandates until May 3. To which all Americans and all airlines should be saying, Ha ha ha ha. And no. When you obey tyrants you only affirm their delusion that they have authority over you. The CDC does not have authority over you, over planes, over trains, over automobiles. Everybody should just say no. Thomas Massie made this same point, and also announced that he and Rand Paul and a number of other legislators have joined a lawsuit against the CDC for these mask mandates. And last of all, the reason, everyone should stop complying is because they don’t actually work. Abortion ban in Oklahoma and Kentucky https://www.reuters.com/world/us/kentucky-lawmakers-block-abortion-access-with-new-law-effective-immediately-2022-04-13/ April 13 (Reuters) - Kentucky effectively suspended legal abortion access on Wednesday as the legislature enacted a sweeping anti-abortion law that took effect right away and forces providers to stop offering abortions until they can meet certain requirements. The impact of the law makes Kentucky the first U.S. state without legal abortion access since the 1973 Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade established the right to end a pregnancy before the fetus is viable, abortion providers say. Abortion rights advocacy groups have said they will challenge the bill in court. The law imposes requirements that the state's clinics say make it too logistically difficult and expensive to operate, including a provision requiring that fetal remains be cremated or interred. It calls for a combination birth-death or stillbirth certificate to be issued for each abortion, and it bans abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, a Democrat, vetoed the bill on Friday, but the Republican-majority House and Senate overrode his veto on Wednesday evening. In his veto letter, Beshear expressed concern that the bill did not include exceptions for abortions in cases of rape or incest and said it was "likely unconstitutional" because of the requirements it imposed on providers. "Rape and incest are violent crimes. Victims of these crimes should have options," Beshear wrote. Two provisions in the abortion legislation hinder the state's abortion clinics from operating, according to Planned Parenthood's Kentucky state director Tamarra Wieder. The first is a requirement that the state Board of Pharmacy certify providers who dispense abortion pills. Until abortion providers are certified, they are prevented from offering medication abortions. The second is a requirement that fetal remains be cremated or interred, which places logistical and cost burdens on the clinics that they cannot sustain. The bill also bans telehealth for medication abortions, requiring an in-person doctor visit for patients seeking to end their pregnancy by pill. https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/12/politics/oklahoma-abortion-ban-kevin-stitt/index.html Oklahoma Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt on Tuesday signed a bill into law that makes performing an abortion illegal in the state, with an exception only in the case of a medical emergency. "As governor, I represent all 4 million Oklahomans and they overwhelmingly support protecting life in the state of Oklahoma. We want Oklahoma to be the most pro-life state in the country. We want to outlaw abortion in the state of Oklahoma," the governor said. Senate Bill 612, which cleared the state Senate last year and the House earlier this month, makes performing an abortion or attempting to perform one a felony punishable by a maximum fine of $100,000 or a maximum of 10 years in state prison, or both. The law does not provide exceptions in cases of rape and incest. Under the measure, the woman would not be criminally charged or convicted for the death of her "unborn child." The legislation does not prohibit the use, sale, prescription or administration of contraceptives. The governor was joined at the signing by members of the Oklahoma legislature, faith leaders from across the state, as well as representatives from anti-abortion advocacy groups. "I know this bill will be challenged immediately by liberal activists from the coast, who always seem to want to come in and dictate, and mandate, and challenge our way of life here in the state of Oklahoma. The most important thing is to take a stand and protect the unborn and protect life in the state of Oklahoma," Stitt added. Oklahoma Republican state Rep. Jim Olsen, SB 612's principal House author, previously told CNN that he believes "rape and incest is a horrible crime" and though the baby is conceived in a "horrible situation" that it "still has a right to life." "The baby should not be liable for the sins of the father," he said. "It's still a life." White House press secretary Jen Psaki condemned the law, calling it "one of the most extreme state laws signed into law to date." In her statement Tuesday, Psaki also urged Congress to pass the Woman's Health Protection Act, which would codify Roe v. Wade, after the legislation failed to overcome Senate hurdles in February, with Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia joining Republicans to block its passage. Stitt's signature on the legislation made Oklahoma the latest Republican-led state to approve new restrictions on abortion access in recent weeks. Last month, Arizona Republican Gov. Doug Ducey signed into law a ban on most abortions in the state after 15 weeks, similar to a Mississippi law that's before the US Supreme Court, and South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem has signed legislation that further restricts access to medication abortions in the state. In Idaho, the state Supreme Court temporarily blocked legislation recently signed by Republican Gov. Brad Little that was modeled after Texas' law that bans abortions after about six weeks. Idaho had become the first state to follow the controversial Texas statute that allows private citizens to enforce the restrictions with lawsuits. Idaho AG makes deal with Idaho Supreme Court to grant stay on Idaho heartbeat law https://www.ag.idaho.gov/newsroom/wasden-issues-statement-in-response-to-false-claim-over-defense-of-heartbeat-law/ Attorney General Lawrence Wasden has issued a statement berating Idaho Family Policy Center's Blaine Conzatti and local media (including Action Idaho) for misrepresenting the stay on Idaho's Heartbeat Law. According to Idaho Supreme Court documents, the Attorney General and Planned Parenthood entered into an agreement to stay the law so that legal proceedings could be delayed. Wasden now claims that the Supreme Court said this in error. Therefore, according to Wasden, those of us who quote the Supreme Court's decision are misrepresenting Wasden's position. Wasden has every reason to worry about how he looks--he looks like he is wrecking Idaho's Heartbeat Law. What reason does the Idaho Supreme Court have for misrepresenting Wasden's position? Why is Wasden complaining about Idaho Family Policy Center instead of the Idaho Supreme Court? They, after all, have made what he must think is the grossest error here. Or did they err at all? Perhaps Wasden can make all of his documents public, instead of casting aspersions at those who just know how to read an Idaho Supreme Court decision. If he gains a retraction from the Idaho Supreme Court, Action Idaho will correct the original story. Hi, this is Garrison Hardie with your CrossPolitic Daily News Brief for Monday, April 11th, 2022. Today, we’ll hear about Elon Musk, in a surprising reversal, no longer joining Twitter’s advisory board. Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins was killed on Saturday after being struck by a truck, the Idaho supreme court blocks ‘Texas Style’ abortion bill from our friends at the Idaho Policy Center, and a congressman introduces a bill, to restart Trump’s border wall! But first, let’s take a look at this day in history. Today is Monday, April 11, the 101st day of 2022. There are 264 days left in the year. Today’s Highlights in History: In 1814, Napoleon Bonaparte abdicated as Emperor of the French and was banished to the island of Elba. (Napoleon later escaped from Elba and returned to power in March 1815, until his downfall in the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815.) In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln spoke to a crowd outside the White House, saying, “We meet this evening, not in sorrow, but in gladness of heart.” (It was the last public address Lincoln would deliver.) In 1899, the treaty ending the Spanish-American War was declared in effect. On April 11, 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law the Civil Rights Act of 1968, which included the Fair Housing Act, a week after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Man April 11th sure sounds like an important day in history! You know what else is important? Protecting your family from the dangers of the internet. Using a smartphone or computer opens the door to a host of digital temptations. In a world saturated with pornography and other harmful content, what's a Christian to do? We need to take a proactive approach, welcoming transparency in our digital media choices—and Accountable2You makes that easy. Their accountability software shares detailed activity reports from all your devices, and your kids' devices, in real time to the accountability partners that you choose. With accountability in place, your family can effectively guard against temptations online and live with purity and integrity. Learn more and try it free at Accountable2You.com/FLF Twitter says, that Elon Musk will no longer join its board: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/10/technology/elon-musk-twitter-board.html This is from the NY Times: Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest man and the biggest shareholder of Twitter, will no longer join the social media service’s board of directors, the company said late Sunday. Twitter had announced on Tuesday that Mr. Musk, 50, would be appointed to its 11-person board in a term that expires in 2024. That followed the revelation on Monday that Mr. Musk had accumulated a 9.2 percent stake in Twitter, making him its largest shareholder. Mr. Musk had agreed not to own more than 14.9 percent of Twitter’s stock or take over the company, which is based in San Francisco. But Parag Agrawal, Twitter’s chief executive, tweeted late Sunday that the situation had changed. On Saturday morning, Mr. Musk told the company he would no longer be joining as a director, Mr. Agrawal said. No reason was given for the change. Twitter’s CEO tweeted out the following: Elon Musk has decided not to join our board. Here's what I can share about what happened. The Board and I had many discussions about Elon joining the board, and with Elon directly. We were excited to collaborate and clear about the risks. We also believed that having Elon as a fiduciary of the company where he, like all board members, has to act in the best interests of the company and all our shareholders, was the best path forward. The board offered him a seat. We announced on Tuesday that Elon would be appointed to the Board contingent on a background check and formal acceptance. Elon's appointment to the board was to become officially effective 4/9, but Elon shared that same morning that he will no longer be joining the board. I believe this is for the best. We have and will alwavs value input from our shareholders whether they are on our Board or not. Elon is our biggest shareholder and we will remain open to his input. There will be distractions ahead, but our goals and priorities remain unchanged. The decisions we make and how we execute is in our hands, no one else's. Let's tune out the noise, and stay focused on the work and what we're building. A spokesman for Twitter declined to comment beyond Mr. Agrawal’s post. Mr. Musk did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins dead after being struck by dump truck on Florida interstate https://www.foxnews.com/sports/steelers-quarterback-dwayne-haskins-killed-struck-car This is from Fox News: Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins was killed early Saturday morning in Florida after being struck by a dump truck in Broward County, authorities said. He was 24 years old. Haskins, who was set to turn 25 next month, was in South Florida training with the team when he tragically died, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported first, citing Haskins' agent. Haskins was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 595 on foot when he was hit by a dump truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). Haskins was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities said it was "unknown" why he was walking on the interstate. A traffic homicide investigation is ongoing, FHP said. The former Ohio State standout was reportedly in Miami training with Mitch Trubisky, who was signed by the Steelers last month to a two-year deal, Sports Illustrated reported. Haskins was expected to compete for the starting job in Pittsburgh following veteran Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement. After redshirting his freshman year at Ohio State, Haskins served as backup quarterback, throwing for 565 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. The following season he was named the starter and went on to have a tremendous season, throwing for 4,831 yards, 50 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He was the second runner-up in the Heisman Trophy voting that year and in 2019 he was drafted 15th overall by the newly named Washington Commanders. Idaho Supreme Court Blocks 'Texas Style' Abortion Law https://townhall.com/tipsheet/madelineleesman/2022/04/09/idaho-supreme-court-blocks-texas-style-abortion-law-n2605688 On Friday, the Idaho Supreme Court blocked a law from going into effect that would outlaw abortions after fetal heartbeat detection, which occurs at roughly six weeks gestation. The law is mirrored after legislation in Texas that was upheld by the Supreme Court of the United States. According to The New York Times, the court issued an order temporarily blocking enforcement of the law until it can further review it. The law was scheduled to take effect on April 22. According to our friends at the Idaho Family Policy Center, the Idaho Attorney General cut a deal with Planned Parenthood, in which both parties agreed to let the court temporarily block the law in exchange for slowing down court proceedings. The Office of the Attorney General – which is statutorily responsible for defending the law in court – says the compromise was necessary because the process was moving too quickly for their team to mount an adequate legal defense. The law allows the father of the unborn child, the grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles to pursue legal action against a medical provider who performs an abortion. The family members of the unborn child can sue for a minimum of $20,000 in damages within four years after the abortion. Texas’ law, S.B. 8, on the other hand, allows anyone to sue an individual who provides an illegal abortion or aids a woman seeking an illegal abortion. Those who successfully bring lawsuits under S.B. 8 can receive $10,000. When GOP Idaho Gov. Brad Little signed the bill into law, he mentioned that he had concerns regarding this portion of the legislation, noting that other states could utilize the same approach to encroach on gun ownership rights. Rebecca reported how California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) touted that he would use this approach against firearms. Late last year, President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) and abortion clinics in Texas challenged the state’s “heartbeat” abortion ban at the Supreme Court. The Court fast-tracked its decision and did not allow the DOJ’s lawsuit to continue and returned the abortion clinics’ lawsuit back to a federal appeals court. This year our national conference is in Knoxville, TN October 6th-8th. The theme of this year’s conference is Lies, Propaganda, Storytelling and the Serrated Edge. Satan is the father of lies, and the mother of those lies is a government who has rejected God. Early bird tickets will be available starting in the middle of March. Congressman introduces bill to restart building border wall https://justthenews.com/nation/states/center-square/nc-congressman-introduces-bill-restart-building-border-wall A North Carolina congressman has introduced a bill to require the federal government to restart rebuilding the border wall, which was halted by President Joe Biden. U.S. Rep. Ted Budd, R-NC, introduced the Build the Wall Now Act, which removes all legal impediments to building the border wall. Among other things, it unlocks an additional $2.1 billion that was appropriated in fiscal years 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 that weren’t spent. Congress allocated $6 billion for the wall’s construction between fiscal years 2018 and 2021, according to the General Accounting Office. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt sued the administration last fall, asking the court to require the administration to resume building the wall using funds already appropriated by Congress. Within a month of the AGs' lawsuit, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said it was using the money on environmental and cleanup projects in certain areas of Arizona, California and Texas. Funds would be used to “address life, safety, environmental, and remediation requirements for border barrier projects” in the San Diego, El Centro, Yuma, Tucson, El Paso, and Del Rio Border Patrol sectors. As the AGs’ lawsuit makes its way through court and as border communities brace for an estimated roughly 18,000 people expected to come through the southern border after Title 42 is repealed next month, Budd said, “The best way to end the Biden Border Crisis is to finish the border wall now.” Title 42 is a public health authority that allows Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents to quickly process and deport illegal immigrants under a public health emergency. It was used by the Trump administration to slow the spread of the coronavirus. The Biden administration announced it was ending it May 23. As long as Democrats hold a majority in Congress and Biden remains president, the bill isn’t expected to become law. But it’s an example of Republicans increasingly frustrated with the administration’s open border policies filing legislation in Congress as immigration lawsuits remain tied up in courts. Even while Title 42 was being used, in Biden’s first year in office, roughly two million people from over 150 countries were apprehended or encountered by CBP agents entering the U.S. illegally. This number excludes an estimated several hundred thousand who evaded law enforcement. All funding for the border wall was suspended on Biden’s first day in office. It costs taxpayers $3 million a day to not build the wall due to contractual obligations with the construction firm tasked with building it. As the federal wall remains unfinished, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott began building a border wall on Texas soil. “Texas is taking what truly is unprecedented action by any state ever,” Abbott said in December when a section of the wall was erected in Rio Grande City. Texas was building a wall “on our border to secure the sovereignty of the United States as well as our own state,” he said. “And this unprecedented action is needed for one single reason, and that’s because the Biden administration has failed to do its job as required by law as passed by Congress to enforce the immigration laws of the United States of America.” Thanks for tuning in to this CrossPolitic Daily News Brief! Jeff Shafer, Ukrainian atrocities, Ketanji Brown Jackson, and an Oberlin College court dcision… and more on today’s CrossPolitic Daily News Brief. This is Toby Sumpter. Today is Tuesday, April 5, 2022. Hale Institute Director Jeff Shafer on Sunday Special https://fb.watch/cb7NOUgWIo/ 11:03-13:00 The courts repudiating and severing rulings from created reality, and moving toward statist conceptions of all things… Idaho Family Policy Center: I wanted to let you all know about Idaho Family Policy Center. IFPC is currently the only explicitly Christian policy organization in Idaho politics. Toby Sumpter and Israel Waitman serve on the board, and the president is Blaine Conzatti, a member of our sister CREC church, Kings Congregation down in Meridian. Blaine and IFPC have been leading the efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, end abortion in Idaho, and protect children from the transgender agenda. Basically, Blaine is a really strategic voice in Idaho politics, and he represents many of our biblical and constitutional concerns in Boise. Atrocities Emerging from Ukraine https://www.thebulwark.com/the-bucha-atrocities-and-the-kremlin-apologists/ From the Bulwark: The gruesome discoveries in Bucha, Troyanets, and other Kyiv suburbs newly freed from Russian occupation have shifted the discourse on Russia’s war in Ukraine, putting the focus on Russian atrocities against the civilian population. By now the horrific photos and videos—bodies buried in mass graves or lying by the roadside, some victims with hands tied execution-style behind their backs—have been seen and shocked many around the world. Survivors’ harrowing accounts of rape, torture, looting and other war crimes by Russian forces are also emerging. Inevitably, there are also the skeptics warning about propaganda, fakes, and emotional reactions – of which there have been some. This is not the first time that atrocities and war crimes have been reported since Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine on February 23. On March 16, the Donetsk Regional Theater of Drama in Mariupol, where over a thousand people were sheltering—and “children” was written in large letters in the front and the back of the building—was bombed, leaving as many as 300 dead. The Russian state-owned media blamed Ukrainian extremists from Ukraine’s supposedly “neo-Nazi” Azov Regiment. The photos and videos of dead people lying in the road, or slumped at the wheels of the cars where they were shot. The mass graves, reportedly containing more than 400 bodies. Victims of mass executions, some with tied hands, strewn in the yard of an office building amidst garbage. A man’s half-naked bloodied body dumped into a cistern. More bodies in the basements of homes. An old woman in the front yard of her house showing journalists the body of her middle-aged daughter who’d been gunned down from a passing Russian tank, the unburied dead woman’s legs sticking out from under plastic sheeting after the boards that had covered the body were lifted to allow visiting officials to examine it. Accounts of four weeks of living hell that included rape at gunpoint, followed by beatings the marks of which could still be seen on the victim. It makes for almost unbearable reading and viewing. A man shot dead for being out past the 3 p.m. curfew because he was running to the hospital after his wife had gone into labor. A 60-year-old veteran of the Soviet war in Afghanistan, shot dead because he refused to vacate his home. Russia’s conduct in Ukraine fits its own definitions of terrorism. As originally enacted in 1994, Russia’s criminal code defined terrorism as “bombings, arson, and other acts causing a threat to human life, major property loss, and other negative consequences committed against public safety or with the aim of influencing decision-making of the government authorities.” The law was revised in 1997 to include reference to “the aim of spreading fear among the population.” It was revised again in 1998 and 2006, after which it defined an “act of terrorism” as “perpetrating an explosion, arson or other actions connected with intimidating the population” to influence public officials. May God destroy Putin and end this war soon. FLF Club Membership Plug: Are you an FLF club member? Because if not, you really should be. You could become a club member for as little as $5 per month. Senate panel deadlocks on Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Supreme Court nomination https://www.wsj.com/articles/supreme-court-pick-ketanji-brown-jackson-moves-toward-confirmation-11649085652?mod=hp_lead_pos3 The Senate Judiciary Committee deadlocked on Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination to the Supreme Court on Monday, with the panel’s 11 Democrats supporting her and 11 Republicans opposed, underscoring the intense partisanship that has come to define the Supreme Court confirmation process. The tally was the first in a series of votes needed to advance Judge Jackson, the first Black woman to be nominated to the court, toward likely confirmation later this week. The tie forced another vote later Monday on the Senate floor, where a simple majority, or 51 votes, is needed to move her nomination forward. That vote is expected to succeed. Such ties in committee are rare, in part because the majority party usually holds more seats on the committee than the minority. But the Senate is divided 50-50 between both parties, with Vice President Kamala Harris holding the tiebreaking vote. A power-sharing agreement reached last year between Senate leaders gave Republicans an equal number of seats to Democrats on every committee, while Democrats hold the chairmanships. Once the full Senate votes to discharge Judge Jackson’s nomination Monday night, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) will set up another procedural vote for Thursday, followed by a final confirmation vote later Thursday or Friday, both at simple majority thresholds. All 50 Democrats are expected to support Judge Jackson’s confirmation, along with at least one Republican, Sen. Susan Collins of Maine. Two other Republicans considered possible votes for Judge Jackson are Mitt Romney of Utah and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. Their votes on discharging her nomination from committee Monday night will be closely watched, since they could reveal where they stand on her confirmation. Since 1870, the Judiciary Committee typically has reported a favorable recommendation for confirmation if a majority of committee members support the nominee. The panel has favorably reported 77 Supreme Court nominations over the past century and a half, and 71 of those went on to be confirmed, according to the Congressional Research Service. Three nominees were reported to the Senate explicitly without recommendation, but went on to be confirmed anyway: two justices in the 19th century and Justice Clarence Thomas, who had been accused of sexual harassment, in 1991. Justice Thomas denied the allegations. The committee didn’t vote Monday on whether to report Judge Jackson’s nomination favorably, unfavorably or without recommendation. Instead, the vote was on a motion simply to discharge her nomination from the committee and send it to the Senate floor. If confirmed, Judge Jackson would fill the seat of Justice Stephen Breyer, who has said he intends to retire at the end of the term, in late June or early July. There is no vacancy until he formally retires from the court and the president signs Judge Jackson’s commission, formally appointing her to the office. Appeals Court Upholds Gibson’s Bakery Massive Verdict Against Oberlin College https://legalinsurrection.com/2022/03/appeals-court-upholds-gibsons-bakery-massive-verdict-against-oberlin-college/?fbclid=IwAR2UOH5seeKTQxXV8BkLXFDkoyP0_Bazrpc6rNWIPe03lGe07N8wqsUqc98 A store clerk, a member of the Gibson family, caught an Oberlin black student shoplifting, a scuffle ensued that was joined by two other Oberlin black students. When the police arrived, they arrested the students who eventually pleaded guilty. But before that, the college officials and students accused the bakery of racial profiling, called a boycott, suspended Gibson’s business with the college, and organized protests outside the bakery. At the protests, a flyer was handed out, according to witnesses who testified at trial, by Dean of Students Meredith Raimondo, who also handed out stacks of flyers for others to distribute. The flyers accused the Gibsons of a long history of racial profiling, including in the incident with these shoplifters. The Gibsons disputed that allegation and that they did anything wrong in this incident, and requested a public apology from the college in order to repair the reputational damage, but the college refused. (To this day it never has apologized.) Based on the actions of college officials in conveying and promoting the defamatory accusations, a lawsuit was filed, resulting in massive verdicts for the owners of the bakery, David Gibson and his father, Allyn Gibson. Legal Insurrection was the only national media outlet to have someone in the courtroom reporting, including when the verdicts came down: On November 10, 2020, the Court heard oral argument on (1) the appeal by Oberlin College and Dean of Students Meredith Raimando seeking to overturn the compensatory and punitive damage awards totalling, after reduction under Ohio tort reform law, $25 million, plus over $6 million in attorney’s fees, bringing the judgment to over $32 million, and (2) the cross-appeal by Gibson’s Bakery and two members of the Gibson family (including the widow of the late David Gibson) seeking to restore the full $33 million punitive damages award, arguing the tort reform reduction was unconstitutional, which would add back about $15 million to the judgment. As satisfying as this must be to the Gibson family, it also must be bittersweet because the two lead plaintiffs and the patriarchs of the family did not live to see the appeals court verdict: David Gibson of Gibson’s Bakery has passed away. (November 16, 2019) “Grandpa” Allyn W. Happy Friday, this is Anna Hadfield with your CrossPolitic Daily News Brief for Friday, March 4th, 2022 I’m definitely not who you were expecting today… But, I’m filling in for Pastor Toby today. As you know, our second stop on our Liberty Tour is April 7th in Rapid City, South Dakota. Special guests include comedian John Branyan, Uncle Gary DeMar, and Larry Elder. We will also offering a free all-day workshop before the live show with talks from our very own Gabe Rench, Pastor Toby, Gary DeMar, and more. Head to crosspolitic.com/libertytour/ to register for the show and check out the details for the workshop. Also, save the dates for our yearly conference in Knoxville, TN on October 6th-8th. The theme of this year’s conference is Lies, Propaganda, Storytelling, and the Serrated Edge. Satan is the father of lies, and the mother of those lies is a government who has rejected God. We have especially been lied to these last two years, and the COVIDpanic has been one of the central mechanisms that our government has used to lie to us and to grab more power. Because Christians have not been reading their bibles, we are susceptible to lies and are weak in our ability to fight these lies. God has given us His word to fight Satan, and we need to recover all of God’s word. So, mark your calendars for October 6th-8th, as we fight, laugh, and feast together with beer and Psalms, our amazing lineup of speakers, our awesome vendors, new friends, and more. Early bird tickets will be available starting in the middle of March. Also remember that club members get reduced rates to the conference, so if you aren’t a club member already, head to fightlaughfeast.com to sign up. World Bank Ends Programs in Russia and Belarus https://thehill.com/policy/international/596645-world-bank-ends-programs-in-russia-and-belarus The World Bank announced on Wednesday it was ending all programs in Russia and Belarus, citing "hostilities against the people of Ukraine." The banking organization, with 189 member countries across the globe, has not approved any new loans or investments in Russia since 2014, when the country annexed the Crimean Peninsula in Ukraine, or in Belarus since 2020, following a disputed presidential election. The decision comes as a large number of countries, organizations, and businesses are severing ties with Russia over the country's invasion of Ukraine last week, and with Belarus for its support and cooperation with Moscow. In a press release, World Bank President, David Malpass said, “The World Bank Group is horrified by the shocking violence and loss of life as a result of the events unfolding in Ukraine. We are a long-standing partner of Ukraine and stand with its people at this critical moment. He went on to explain that he had met with President Zelenskyy in Munich and reaffirmed the Bank’s strong support and commitment to the people of Ukraine and the region. On Tuesday, the International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said it was considering Ukraine's request for emergency financing, while another program gave the nation access to 2.2 billion dollars through the end of June. The World Bank Group also announced on Tuesday it was providing a 3 billion dollar support package to assist Ukraine. Both financial groups are considering other options to assist the region and neighboring countries affected by the war, especially those taking in the more than 600,000 Ukrainian refugees. Hawaii: https://www.sfgate.com/hawaii/article/Hawaii-COVID-19-rules-changing-16954886.php https://hawaiicovid19.com/travel/ You can now book your summer vacation plans to Hawaii! At least maybe you can… All counties in the state are dropping many of their covid regulations. Governor of Hawaii, David Ige, announced on Tuesday that the state will end its Safe Travels program at midnight, March 25th, concurrent with the end of the state’s emergency proclamation. The state’s Safe Travels Program required travelers to do a five-day mandatory self-quarantine for travelers from the U.S. and its Territories. To bypass the quarantine, travelers entering the state either needed to have an approved pre-travel covid test done, or have a valid up-to-date vaccine record. Starting March 26, domestic visitors will no longer need to show proof of COVID vaccination or the results of a pre-travel test. Nor will they need to undergo a mandatory quarantine if they are unable to produce that proof. All pre- and post-arrival COVID screenings will end, including post-boarding screenings at airports with participating airlines. Visitors will also no longer need to provide information about their trip or create a Safe Travels account. However, it is still bad news if you are an international traveler… Travelers from international destinations, including returning U.S. citizens, are still required to show proof of a negative COVID test, regardless of vaccination status, or documentation of recovery from the virus from a licensed health care professional. Because of course the virus clearly knows if you’re coming from a different country or not… Additionally, Ige said that the indoor mask mandate will remain in effect after the March 25th date. Again, because this is a smart virus and knows if you are inside or outside… Idaho Family Policy Center: We want to let you all know about Idaho Family Policy Center. Judge Joel M. Cohen ruled that the state’s allegations of corruption and mismanagement by NRA top officials fell short of the public harm required to impose the “corporate death penalty” on the nonprofit group. The ruling on Wednesday represented a big win for the NRA. The decision comes 18 months after New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit against the NRA and its top officials, alleging that they violated the state’s nonprofit laws by illegally diverting tens of millions of dollars from the group through excessive expenses and contracts that benefited relatives or close associates. The NRA and its officers deny the claims. If the attorney general’s allegations are proved, they could be addressed through less intrusive measures, the judge ruled, and dissolving the NRA “could impinge, at least indirectly, on the free speech and assembly rights” of the group’s members. The NRA has charged that the suit by Ms. James, a Democrat, is politically motivated, which she has denied. The NRA, falls under Ms. James’ regulatory authority. Ms. James said she was disappointed that the judge ruled against the dismissal portion of the case. She said the Attorney Genneral’s office is considering its legal options. She welcomed the court’s decision on the other counts, which she said affirmed her office’s right to pursue claims that “fraud, abuse and greed permeate through the NRA.” William A. Brewer, an outside attorney for the NRA says, “We look forward to continuing the defense of the NRA—and proving that it acts in the best interests of its members and the Second Amendment freedoms in which they believe.” This is Anna Hadfield with your Crosspolitic News. Also remember that club members get reduced rates to the conference, so if you aren’t a club member already, head to fightlaughfeast.com to sign up.World Bank Ends Programs in Russia and Belarushttps://thehill.com/policy/international/596645-world-bank-ends-programs-in-russia-and-belarus The World Bank announced on Wednesday it was ending all programs in Russia and Belarus, citing "hostilities against the people of Ukraine."The banking organization, with 189 member countries across the globe, has not approved any new loans or investments in Russia since 2014, when the country annexed the Crimean Peninsula in Ukraine, or in Belarus since 2020, following a disputed presidential election. At least maybe you can… All counties in the state are dropping many of their covid regulations.Governor of Hawaii, David Ige, announced on Tuesday that the state will end its Safe Travels program at midnight, March 25th, concurrent with the end of the state’s emergency proclamation. The state’s Safe Travels Program required travelers to do a five-day mandatory self-quarantine for travelers from the U.S. and its Territories. To bypass the quarantine, travelers entering the state either needed to have an approved pre-travel covid test done, or have a valid up-to-date vaccine record.Starting March 26, domestic visitors will no longer need to show proof of COVID vaccination or the results of a pre-travel test. Nor will they need to undergo a mandatory quarantine if they are unable to produce that proof. All pre- and post-arrival COVID screenings will end, including post-boarding screenings at airports with participating airlines. Visitors will also no longer need to provide information about their trip or create a Safe Travels account. However, it is still bad news if you are an international traveler…Travelers from international destinations, including returning U.S. citizens, are still required to show proof of a negative COVID test, regardless of vaccination status, or documentation of recovery from the virus from a licensed health care professional. Because of course the virus clearly knows if you’re coming from a different country or not…Additionally, Ige said that the indoor mask mandate will remain in effect after the March 25th date. Again, because this is a smart virus and knows if you are inside or outside…Idaho Family Policy Center: We want to let you all know about Idaho Family Policy Center. Little signed the Idaho Heartbeat Bill, which bans abortions after a preborn baby's heartbeat can be detected. But because of ongoing court cases, the legislature felt it was necessary to include a trigger mechanism so that the new Heartbeat law would not become enforceable until after a similar law in another state was upheld by a federal appellate court. Then something spectacular happened. Just a few months after the bill was signed by the governor, the United States Supreme Court allowed the Texas Heartbeat Law to go into effect. This was a tremendous victory. Although it did not "trigger" enforcement of the Heartbeat Law in Idaho because of technical reasons, it blazed a viable pathway to begin saving preborn babies right away in Idaho. Sen. Patti Anne Lodge (R-Huston) and Rep. Steve Harris (R-Meridian) have sponsored the new changes adding a private enforcement mechanism that would become effective thirty days following signature by the governor. On Friday, this new bill was presented to the Senate State Affairs Committee. And the committee voted to "print," or introduce, the bill (now SB 1309). If Texas is any indication, this simple addition to the Idaho Heartbeat Law will likely save more than 1,000 preborn babies every year. Lord willing, we could be just sixty days away from preventing most abortions in the state after six weeks of pregnancy. This work is being spearheaded by Blaine Conzatti and Idaho Family Policy Center. Which is why you should seriously consider attending their Spring Banquet on March 10, 2022, at Still Water Hollow in Nampa, Idaho, featuring Uncle Gary Demar, as the keynote speaker. Gary has served as president of American Vision for nearly four decades. His monumental work, God and Government, has long been the quintessential textbook on government for Christian private and homeschooling students. Blaine and IFPC have been leading the efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, end abortion in Idaho, and protect children from the transgender agenda. This is Toby Sumpter. Today is Tuesday, February 8, 2022. Would please Like and share this show? Do it now so we can reach more people with the truth. First I want to tell you about Cornerstone Work & Worldview Institute. College is great! But it’s not for everyone. Cornerstone Work & Worldview Institute seeks to fill that gap. They offer courses in Bible, theology, and economics as well as business, project management, and marketing and more. They also provide their students with internships with business partners so they can learn and gain practical skills. "Tooting a horn is not an expression of any great thought I'm aware of," Justice Hugh McLean of the Ottawa Superior Court said. He also said the ban on honking would not rob demonstrators of their right to protest. Journalist Élie Cantin-Nantel tweeted that, so far, the truckers appear to be complying. A convoy of truckers and other demonstrators protesting Canada's COVID-19 policies entered Ottawa on Jan. 29 and has been blocking streets and using horns ever since. Protesters also cooked food, set up bouncy castles, held impromptu dance parties, and played street hockey. https://twitter.com/backtolife_2019/status/1490632512414097409?s=20&t=DMD9DK_ZWpx0r5a8pvd9zQ Meanwhile, Hundreds of protestors (thousands?) gathered in the streets of Turin, Italy to eat together, protesting vaccine mandates. And next to Psalm sing protests, that’s about the next most Christian thing you could do. And if the truckers do decided to relax the honking, I hope they will all decide to honk at stated times, maybe at noon every day? Or at the beginning and close of business hours. Speaking of feasting and protesting: Idaho Family Policy Center is on the frontline of the battle to protect faith, freedom, and family values in the Gem State, and I'm excited to announce that we are hosting our first-ever Spring Banquet on March 10, 2022, at Still Water Hollow in Nampa, Idaho. We would love for you to join us for this unforgettable evening, which will feature Gary Demar, a renowned Christian apologist and cultural commentator, as the keynote speaker. Gary has served as president of American Vision for nearly four decades. His monumental work, God and Government, has long been the quintessential textbook on government for Christian private and homeschooling students. We ask that you consider partnering with us at this event as a table host by sponsoring a table of eight for $600. You will then have the opportunity to invite seven guests to join you for the evening as we fill the room with like-minded men and women who are ready to engage the culture and advance the lordship of Jesus Christ in Idaho. Your prayers and support are the backbone of our work. By sponsoring a table or making a tax-deductible gift in your absence, you will help support our commitment to promote God-honoring legislation, engage the church, and train statesmen to advocate our Christian values. We couldn’t do this without you, and we look forward to spending the evening with you! But jurists across the political spectrum say that, like the president, Justice Kruger’s hallmark is moderation. “She’s a consensus builder,” said Tani Cantil-Sakauye, the chief justice of the California Supreme Court, who was appointed in 2011 by a Republican governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. “Beyond her obviously glittering Ivy League education and her brilliant mind is this incredibly humble, self-effacing personality who is very persuasive in bringing groups together on different legal arcs.” That instinct for reasoned persuasion has made Justice Kruger, 45, a powerful backstage force on a split court whose majority has shifted from right to left during her tenure. Since her arrival, California’s high court — notorious as recently as a decade ago for its partisanship and division — has voted unanimously in nearly nine out of 10 decisions, a rate that far outstrips the U.S. Supreme Court’s unanimity. https://www.scotusblog.com/2022/02/profile-of-a-potential-nominee-ketanji-brown-jackson/ Even before taking office, President Joe Biden pledged to reshape the federal judiciary. In a December 2020 letter, during his presidential transition, he asked Democratic senators to recommend public defenders and civil rights lawyers, who have generally been underrepresented on the federal bench, for judgeships. If the president nominates Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, who currently sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Justice Stephen Breyer, he will take his mission to diversify professional representation to the next level, putting a former federal public defender on the highest court in the land. If nominated and confirmed, the 51-year-old Jackson would be the first Black woman on the court and also one of the youngest justices – second only to Justice Amy Coney Barrett, who celebrated her 50th birthday on Friday. She would bring a wide range of experiences not only as a public defender but also a federal district judge and a member of the U.S. Sentencing Commission. Jackson has earned high praise from the justice she would replace if nominated: When she was under consideration for her previous job as a federal trial court judge, Breyer described her as “brilliant,” a “mix of common sense” and “thoughtfulness.” And she might enjoy an edge over other candidates because of the prospect that she would have a relatively smooth path to confirmation: She was confirmed to an appellate judgeship less than a year ago with support from three Republican senators, and she is a relative by marriage of former House Speaker Paul Ryan, who ran for vice president on the Republican ticket in 2012. Obama nominated Jackson again on Jan. 4, 2013, and the Senate confirmed her by a voice vote in March. During her seven years as a district judge, Jackson issued several high-profile rulings on topics ranging from federal environmental law to the Americans with Disabilities Act. But none had a higher profile than her decision in Committee on the Judiciary v. McGahn, in which she ruled that Don McGahn, the former White House counsel to President Donald Trump, was required to testify before the House Judiciary Committee as part of its investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election and Trump’s possible obstruction of justice, even after Trump had directed him not to do so. In a 118-page opinion, Jackson rejected the contention by Trump’s Department of Justice that federal courts lack the power to review disputes between the executive branch and Congress over subpoenas, as well as its argument that the president has the sole authority to decide whether he and his senior aides will comply with subpoenas to testify about possible wrongdoing in his administration. She stressed that “the primary takeaway from the past 250 years of recorded American history is that Presidents are not kings.” White House employees, she continued, “work for the People of the United States,” and “take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States”; the president cannot block them from appearing to testify. McGahn eventually testified before the committee in June 2021, after the DOJ (now under the Biden administration) and the committee reached an agreement for him to do so. In April 2018, Jackson ruled against the Trump administration in a lawsuit brought by federal employee unions challenging three of the president’s executive orders on the collective bargaining rights of federal workers. The unions argued that the orders exceeded the president’s powers and conflicted with both federal labor laws and the employees’ constitutional rights. https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/04/politics/j-michelle-childs-supreme-court-joe-biden/index.html Michelle Childs from South Carolina ss the preferred choice of Democratic Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina, one of the President's top allies. That endorsement, which Clyburn has loudly been making for more than a year. Since her name came up as being on Biden's short list, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham hailed Childs as a brilliant choice, saying, "It's fair to say I think Michelle Childs has a really good chance of getting Republican votes." Another Republican from South Carolina, Sen. Tim Scott, repeated that sentiment: "I think she has a strong record and would be a strong candidate." And Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia echoed the praise, calling Childs "a tremendous, tremendous candidate." Those accolades have been, at the same time, accompanied by criticism from progressive activists and union leaders who suggest Childs' legal record is not sufficiently supportive of worker rights. Childs, who was nominated to the federal bench in 2010 by President Barack Obama, earned degrees from the University of South Florida and the University of South Carolina. Her champions say her state school experience would be a welcome change on the Supreme Court. It puts her in contrast with other top contenders, including Leondra Kruger, who attended Harvard and Yale, and Ketanji Brown Jackson, who attended Harvard. “As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.” (Is. 3:12). It is a curse to be ruled by women and children. Yes, God does occasionally raise up a Deborah. It is not automatically in every situation sinful for a woman to have a position of political leadership. But it is a sign of weak men, and weak men is a curse on any society. And widespread rule of a nation by women is a great curse. And until Republicans and Conservatives stop celebrating all the women in politics, we will continue getting more of a Nanny state. In the immortal words of John MacArthur, let the women go home. Go home to the blessing of God. Go home to your husbands and children. Go home to the place where God has promised you great power. I’m all for empowering women. But sending them into combat, whether as pastors or pilots or snipers or judges, is not actually empowering them. Those are not vocations where a woman’s natural strength is fitted to the task. A woman’s God-given glory and strength flows from the home, is centered in the home, because that is where people are made and people are the most potent force in human history. Truckers saying the Lord's Prayer …and more on today's CrossPolitic Daily News Brief. This is Toby Sumpter. Today is Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022.  Would please Like and share this show? Do it now so we can reach more people with the truth.  Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to the Truckers Protest warning them about “hateful rhetoric” and “inciting violence.” Instead of the Truckers Protest, Trudeau said he preferred the Black Lives Matter Protests. But a revised version could return. Idaho already has a “fetal heartbeat” law, but it needs a favorable ruling in a federal court to become active. The proposal sought to amend that law to allow family members to sue a doctor who performed an abortion, making the law active now. But lawmakers said that conflicted with existing Idaho laws by giving family members standing to sue. Blaine Conzatti of the Idaho Family Policy Center told lawmakers that approving the proposed Idaho law would, like in Texas, immediately end abortions in the state after six weeks of pregnancy. Just last week, the Republican dominated Idaho legislature allowed an anti-conversion therapy bill for minors onto the floor of the legislature for consideration. The bill, sponsored by Republican Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, targets slave labor in Xinjiang and surrounding provinces, where China is conducting a genocide of the Uyghur people. It passedthe House by voice vote Tuesday and is expected to be signed into law by President Joe Biden. The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act creates a “rebuttable presumption” that goods produced in Xinjiang or by certain listed Chinese business entities are produced by the forced labor of Uyghurs or other ethnic minorities. Companies may continue to import products from Xinjiang if they provide “clear and convincing evidence” to the Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection that their supply chains do not include forced labor. The bill's passage unlocks three votes to confirm Biden nominees to key State Department positions. Rubio and Democratic Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy agreed that the Republican would drop his objections to Nicholas Burns, nominated to be Ambassador to China, Ramin Toloui, nominated to be Assistant Secretary of State, and Rashad Hussain, nominated to be Ambassador for International Religious Freedom, in exchange for Murphy's lack of objection to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. Glenn Loury Says America is Not White Supremacist  Play audio: 0:00-1:02 Why are people flocking here from all over the world? Because it's so oppressive and white supremacist?  Supreme Court Sends Texas Heartbeat Law Back to Appeals Court A U.S. Supreme Court decision Thursday dealt another blow to the Texas abortion industry by sending its lawsuit against the state heartbeat law back to a federal appeals court that previously allowed the legislation to go into effect. The Associated Press reports the pro-abortion groups suing to overturn the pro-life law wanted the justices to send their lawsuit back to U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman, who blocked the law in October. On Thursday, however, Justice Neil Gorsuch signed an order sending the case to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals instead, according to the report. Back in October, the Fifth Circuit rejected Pitman's ruling just a few days after he issued it and allowed the law to go into effect again. Pro-life leaders estimate that the heartbeat law, which bans abortions once an unborn baby's heartbeat is detectable, about six weeks of pregnancy, has saved thousands of babies' lives since it went into effect Sept. 1. The law includes a unique private enforcement mechanism that allows private individuals to sue abortionists and those who “aid and abet” in abortions in violation of the law. It is this provision that has been the main focus of the legal dispute thus far. Earlier this month, the Supreme Court threw out a lawsuit from President Joe Biden and rejected the Texas pro-abortion groups' request to temporarily block the law while their legal challenge continues through the courts. While the high court ruled that the Texas abortion businesses may continue with their lawsuit, it also watered down their case by allowing them to sue state licensing officials but not the state judges and clerks who are charged with handling lawsuits spurred by the law. Now, the Supreme Court is sending the case back to the Fifth Circuit for consideration, and abortion activists are losing hope — good news for the future of unborn babies in Texas. “The Supreme Court left only a small sliver of our case intact, and it's clear that this part of the case will not block vigilante lawsuits from being filed,” Marc Hearron, a lawyer with the Center for Reproductive Rights, told the AP. “It's also clear that Texas is determined to stop the plaintiffs from getting any relief in even the sliver of the case that is left.” Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of the University of California Berkeley School of Law, said he also was “stunned” that the Supreme Court allowed the law to remain in effect even though it violates Roe v. Wade. “The court's refusal to block the blatantly unconstitutional Texas law is also a strong signal that it is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade,” Chemerinsky wrote this week at the Los Angeles Times. Texas abortion businesses are admitting a likely defeat as well. They essentially have no way to stop Texas citizens and pro-life groups from filing lawsuits against them, abortionists and abortion center staff who help abort unborn babies in violation the law. And if the law remains in effect much longer, many Texas abortion businesses may close. According to the Texas Tribune: Amy Hagstrom Miller, president of Whole Woman's Health, which operates four clinics in Texas and is the lead plaintiff in the providers' lawsuit, warned last week that the current volume of services is not enough to keep clinics open in the long term. “Staying open is not sustainable if this ban stays in effect much longer,” Hagstrom Miller said. “We are grateful for the donors and foundations and folks who have been supporting us in the interim … but the future looks bleak if we can't get some justice here.” Ultimately, the abortion businesses' legal challenge appears to be “doomed,” the report concluded. And that's great news for unborn babies. A new study found that, in just the first month of the law, abortions in Texas went down 50 percent. Since then, Texas abortion facility directors have reported even bigger drops in their abortion numbers, as high as 80 percent compared to the previous year, according to the Texas Tribune. The heartbeat law has the potential to save tens of thousands of unborn babies from abortion every year. In 2020, about 54,000 unborn babies were aborted in Texas, and about 85 percent happened after six weeks of pregnancy, according to state health statistics. Join us in praising God that all seventeen of our loved ones are now safe," said a statement from Christian Aid Ministries. "Thank you for your fervent prayers throughout the past two months. We hope to provide more information as we are able." Haiti National Police Spokesman Gary Desrosiers also confirmed to NBC News that the hostages had been found safe, but would not say where they had been taken. Seventeen people working with the group were kidnapped in October by the 400 Mawozo gang, which controls the Ganthier commune in the suburb of Port-au-Prince where the missionaries were taken. Christian Aid Ministries had previously said that those who were kidnapped were sixteen U.S citizens and one Canadian citizen — six men, six women, and five children. The missionaries were returning from an orphanage, an hour and a half from Christian Aid Ministries Haiti base and often visited by their staff, when they were taken. The group, based in Millersburg, Ohio, repeatedly called for supporters to fast and pray for the safe release of the hostages, at one point earlier this month encouraging Christians to fast for three days. Senate Unanimously Passes Uyghur Forced Labor Bill https://dailycaller.com/2021/12/16/senate-passes-uyghur-forced-labor-bill-marco-rubio/ After a series of false starts and delays, the Senate passed the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act by voice vote Thursday. Remaining missionaries kidnapped in Haiti by gang released https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/remaining-missionaries-kidnapped-haiti-gang-released-rcna9010?fbclid=IwAR0acBi61sVy19OtPu-G_kaiJdEj84zWLnILglQvByTNWRW3jF6WHLgd1kw A Haitian gang has released the remaining 12 hostages they had abducted — more than two months after their kidnapping, the Ohio-based religious group they work with announced Thursday. "We glorify God for answered prayer—the remaining twelve hostages are FREE! In November, two of the missionaries were released, and another three were freed earlier this month Fight Laugh Feast Magazine DNB Our Fight Laugh Feast Magazine is a quarterly issue that packs a punch like a 21 year Balvenie, no ice.
