July 19, 1980. Three young boxers are circling a track in front of thousands of people in downtown Moscow. Alberto Mercado, Jose Molina, and Luis Pizarro have found themselves as the sole representatives of Puerto Rico in this year's controversial Summer Olympic Games. The young men are here in defiance of their own nation's government and the government of the United States. The U.S. and 64 other countries are boycotting the Summer Olympics this year. The decision is meant to disavow the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan the year before. Puerto Rico is initially expected to boycott too, as an American territory. But they don't.Today, why do these three boxers make the controversial choice to go compete behind the Iron Curtain? And is it worth the risk to defy the United States? Seven years ago, veteran television writer/producers Jose Molina and Javier Grillo-Marxuach set out to consign all their experience to a podcast and to give it away for free. One Golden Age of television, a pandemic, and several complete disruptions in the industry later, Jose and Javi look to the future and ponder the fate of the Children of Tendu Podcast... and more importantly, their own transition from wizened veterans to fellow travelers with newcomers in a rapidly changing world!
We talk to veteran writer Jose Molina. He talks through the balance between finding a long-running show, finding a show you like and making bold and reckless decision early in your career. He explains why young writers should actually take advice from their mentors, even if they think none of the rules apply to them, why he quit SVU and he tries to define 'success'.Jose talks about worrying less about his next gig and more about his next gig being the right one, the important of working to pay the rent and gives advice for the next generation of writers. An insightful and fun discussion with an industry stalwart.

Hosts Alex and Rich French are here to discuss the newest trouble that has thrown our favorite Maine-ites for a loop. And after that, we have a special feature! We are playing Haven Survivor! In the spirit of an Agatha Christie story, we wanted to eliminate each Haven cast member one by one and we use a Brant Steele simulation to do so. How has the coronavirus pandemic impacted foreign meditators in Myanmar? This is precisely the question we set out to answer in this “Expats in Exile Edition” of our COVID-19 in Myanmar series. The guests include: · Jose Molina, an agricultural economist based in Yangon, who observed that life stayed pretty much as usual in the city, even as the rest of the world shut down. Initially resisting the inclination to leave, he ultimately packed up his apartment and had an emotional farewell at Chan Myay Yeiktha Monastery, his primary place of practice. Now back in Massachusetts, he has had to adjust back to a more materialistic culture and reflects on the Dhamma lessons that can be learned during a pandemic. · Emily Rothenberg, a Fulbright Fellow in Mandalay who had hoped to use the pandemic as a time to settle into practice, but could not find a Burmese monastery that would accept foreign meditators. Moving into the home of a US diplomat and hoping to hunker down there, as the situation grew more serious she ended up catching one of the last flights out of the country. Back home in Chicago, she tried to plan her own self-retreat, and struggled to find a sense of stability after such a tumultuous period. · David Sudar is a former monk at Shwe Oo Min Monastery under Sayadaw U Tejaniya. He had returned to Myanmar earlier his year as a lay meditator, to spend the winter in retreat. He managed to travel back to the US in spite of a debilitating illness, and self-quarantined at home in Portland, Oregon. In addition to continuing his own practice through extended self-retreats, he is also guiding meditators around the world through Zoom sessions, and discusses how yogis have found their practice impacted by the pandemic. · Gary Leung, an Australian meditator who came to Myanmar for eight months of Dhamma practice, and ordained temporarily as a monk at the annual Kyaswa Monastery meditation retreat in the Sagaing Hills. His first indication that the pandemic was becoming more serious was during a pilgrimage in Upper Myanmar, when he learned that Burmese monasteries would no longer accept foreigners, and he changed his return flight earlier to be able to leave before the country shut down. Once back in Sydney, he self-quarantined in his family home, and is continuing to practice and work remotely. As part of this new series, we will explore how the coronavirus pandemic is affecting Burmese monastic society in upcoming episodes, as well as how it is impacting meditators around the world and pushing meditation teachers to respond in new and innovative ways to the crisis as it unfolds. In this time of uncertainty and insecurity, we hope the voices that follow provide information and insight, and help awaken the seeds of wisdom within you. Wizard of the Coast's Magic: The Gathering is more than just a card game. For over 25 years, the world of Magic has vast lore that ranges from dark zombies and demons to the lightness of fairies. It is a world that has expanded into books, comics, video games, and in 2020, it's making it's way to Netflix as a new original series. Produced by the animation network and studio Octopie, and executively produced by Joe and Anthony Russo, and with Henry Gilroy and Jose Molina serving as showrunners, existing Magic players and the uninitiated were excited when the series was announced. At Rooster Teeth Expo 2019 (RTX), we got the chance to interview Isaac Krauss, the CEO of Octopie and an executive producer on the new series.

On today's episode I talk to writer and showrunner Javier Grillo-Marxuach. Originally from Puerto Rico, Javi earned his MFA in screenwriting from USC in the early 1990s, and soon after started his television career. He's written for a number of rad shows across many different genres including Charmed, Boomtown, Medium, Lost, Helix and The 100, and he created and showran the fantastic show The Middleman, which was based on his own comics. Javi's also the co-host with Jose Molina of the Children of Tendu podcast, which is an educational series that aims to teach newcomers how to navigate the entertainment industry with decency and integrity (and as far as I'm concerned is a must-listen for anyone that wants to work in this industry). Currently, Javi co-executive produces the Jim Henson Company's upcoming ten-hour prequel to their classic film The Dark Crystal for Netflix. Following our Fantastic Four review we return with a much more positive podcast for our twenty fifth installment of Defenders TV Podcast and an episode of Agent Carter that truly deserves the fantastic tag. This week in Agent Carter The Iron Ceiling, written by Jose Molina we get a Marvel Cinematic Universe connected back-story for Dottie Underwood (Bridget Regan) and we're treated to a very special visit from the official Howling Commandos including the return of Timothy Aloysius Cadwallader "Dum Dum" Dugan (Neal McDonough) and the introduction of Samuel "Happy Sam" Sawyer (Leonard Roberts), Jonathan "Junior" Juniper (James Austin Kerr) and Percival "Pinky" Pinkerton (Richard Short). Our host Derek is in his absolute element here as we say Wah-hoo!!! at these characters being brought into Agent Carter. We also discussed an excellent podcast in our episode where each of the writers of Agent Carter provide a commentary to their episodes of the show. The podcast we spoke about was This Week In Marvel's Agent Carter podcast and it's well worth a listen to hear how the writers made some of their decisions on the show and some of the background stories behind Agent Carter The Iron Ceiling . You can listen to José Molina's episode here https://marvel.com/podcasts/15/this_week_in_marvels_agent_carter As always thanks for joining us for our Agent Carter The Iron Ceiling Podcast. If you have any thoughts on Agent Carter, Ant-Man, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Fantastic Four or of course Daredevil and the future Netflix shows please send them to feedback@defenderstvpodcast.com and we'll discuss them on our future podcasts. The Defenders TV Podcast will return next week with our thoughts on Agent Carter Episode 6 "A Sin to Err" where we will see the fall out of Agent Sousa's discovery. Ben and Sam banter about Jose Molina, Pat Venditte, and non-revelatory rumors, then draft free agents whose contracts they expect to be above or below published estimates.
Kyle returns to the podcast after a week off, and he has a bone to pick about Jose Molina. He also takes some time to address a few things regarding the upcoming NFL season. The guys talk a little Rays baseball and establish that the Rays have ruined their new feature: "Do The Rays Suck?" Kyle talks about a Boston writer that can't shut-up about the Rays attendance. Jonathan and Nick debate Kyle on weather playing the game means you have to be a fan of the game. Nick and Jonathan attempt to guess the top 10 clutch NFL QBs.
In this inaugural edition of the Children of Tendu Podcast, veteran television writer/producers Javier Grillo-Marxuach (Lost, The Middleman, Helix, Medium) and Jose Molina (Sleepy Hollow, Firefly, Haven, Castle, Dark Angel) begin at the beginning: explaining how they started their careers in television, and how someone at the ground floor might navigate the early stages of the urban jungle that is the business of writing for the tube! they also explain the strange name of the podcast, briefly discuss "mangut" and engage in a lively discussion of how a chance meeting in a Puerto Rican Supermarket sparked a lifelong friendship. javier Grillo-Marxuach and Jose Molina have over forty combined years of experience as writer/producers in television - the Children of Tendu Podcast is their attempt to give away their experience in the entertainment business for free in the hopes that others will not make the same mistakes they did! Ben and Sam discuss the early movement on the free agent market, then break down the Jose Molina, Brian McCann, and Joe Smith signings.
Why accept Jesus as your personal lord and savior when you can take Jose Molina and Sean Mogridge into your heart instead? Those two fine gentlemen join Xander and Ben to discuss post-apocalypse quadrant management, how to be a great 'manager' of a relationship, and myriad other shennanigans. Even though Sean accuses Jose, aka "Face-Muscle-Sex-Pistol", of being a podcasting rookie, clearly both guests this episode are professionals 'cause this one turned out great. Trust me then verify by listening to it.
Ben and Sam discuss the finding that Jose Molina’s receiving was worth 50 runs and talk about what it’s implications for baseball might be.

Steven and Jeff go at it in their varied assessments of our favorite Los Angeles team of Anaheim. Reviewing the Ervin Santana demotion, Joe Saunders promotion, and Jose Molina trade, there is much to kick around. Steven is despairing over the lack of the long promised bat and Jeff suggests that the mysterious bat may not be out there. They do agree that this weeks homestand will tell us a lot.
Not sure what the end will entail, but for tonight we inch closer to the idle Oakland Athletics. Seldom used Jose Molina provides the only offense as he hits a two run homerun in the fifth inning to go along with some pretty terrific pitching.
We conclude the first half of the 2006 season by having a 6-1 road trip and pulling oh-so-close to our goals. With Ervin Santana notching his 10th victory of the season we had offensive help from a Jose Molina homer, Kendry Morales triple, and a few key hits from MIA Garret Anderson. Very nice way to head into the break. Steven and Jeff will be back at it on Friday night when the Halos host Tampa Bay.
