According to officials, the Defense Department's Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program is a national secutity imperative to protect intellectual property and maintain an American competitive advantage in defense technology. At AFCEA TechNet 2025 in Baltimore, Katie Arrington, performing the duties of the DOD CIO, says CMMC needs to adapt dynamically to evolving cyber threats. With evolving tech like AI and quantum, acquisition rules need to adjust to evolving technologies while maintaining security standards. Arrington says that the Defense Department needs to continue to streamline cyber requirements through required standards, guidance and executive orders. Weeks after being named the chief information security officer for the Defense Department, Katie Arrington was announced Monday as the Pentagon's official “Performing the Duties of the Department of Defense Chief Information Officer.” The DOD Office of the CIO announced the move by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to place Arrington as the acting CIO in a post on LinkedIn. The post also confirmed that Leslie Beavers, who had been acting CIO since John Sherman left the role last June, will return to her primary role as principal deputy CIO. A defense official confirmed Arrington started in the role Monday. An organization that's filed multiple legal challenges against the Trump administration is focusing its attention on the potential use of artificial intelligence in personnel decisions. Democracy Forward, a social welfare organization, said Monday it “launched a public records investigation” into the administration's AI use, including filing requests under the Freedom of Information Act. Skye Perryman, president and CEO of Democracy Forward, said in a written statement that the American people deserve to know what is going on — including if and how artificial intelligence is being used to reshape the departments and agencies people rely on daily. The organization's requests come after reporting by NBC that Trump and Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency planned to use AI to review employee responses to the Office of Personnel Management's “five bullets” email. Katie Arrington has been named the deputy chief information officer for cybersecurity and chief information security officer at the Department of Defense, a department spokesperson confirmed. She assumed the role effective Feb. 18. A familiar face, Arrington comes back to the Pentagon where she was the chief information security officer for the department's acquisition and sustainment organization during the first Trump administration. She was best known for starting the Pentagon's Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification program over six years ago, which aims to improve the cybersecurity posture of the defense industrial base and contractors by requiring minimum cyber standards to bid on contracts. As the Department of Government Efficiency sets its sights on accessing sensitive taxpayer data, a coalition of union groups and advocates is suing the federal government to block the Elon Musk associates from entering Internal Revenue Service systems. In a lawsuit filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the Center for Taxpayer Rights, Main Street Alliance, the National Federation of Federal Employees and the Communications Workers of America allege that DOGE's access to IRS systems has harmed their constituents' privacy interests and exposed their private information to heightened risks. South Carolina's GOP primary was one to watch last week for Republicans, as Congresswoman Nancy Mace faced off against Trump-endorsed candidate Katie Arrington. Despite Arrington's endorsement from the former President, Mace gained mass support and came out victorious -- defeating Arrington by nine points in South Carolina's 1st congressional district. Today, Mace joins the Rundown to discuss why she was able to lead such a successful campaign, her thoughts on inflation overwhelming Americans across the U.S., and why she believes it is crucial that Republicans win back the House in November.   Last year marked the deadliest year for Americans dying from drug overdose, with the death toll surpassing 100,000 according to the CDC. As the overdose numbers climb, reports show most of these deaths involve a potent synthetic opioid-fentanyl. Chris and Laura Didier lost one of their children, Zach, to overdose from a counterfeit pill that turned out to be fentanyl. Now they speak out on this topic in hopes to educate families on the dangers this drug poses to the country and they share their story on the Fox News Media special, 'Fentanyl: The Poisoning of America.'
