What happens when your recovery journey needs a reboot—not because you relapsed, but because you learned something life-changing about your brain? In this second part of my deep conversation with Stacie Fanelli, LCSW, we explore what eating disorder recovery looks like after a late diagnosis of autism and/or ADHD (AuDHD). We talk about the grief, relief, and radical reframing that can come when you realize your past recovery strategies weren't failures—they just weren't made for your neurotype. Together, we unpack the nuances of recovery that often get overlooked:
What happens when your eating disorder recovery path no longer fits—because you finally discover you're neurodivergent? In Part 1 of this rich and validating conversation, Dr. Marianne is joined by Stacie Fanelli, LCSW (@edadhd_therapist), a neurodiversity-affirming therapist who specializes in eating disorders, ADHD, and autism. Together, they unpack the layered emotional terrain of realizing you're neurodivergent after you've already done a round (or more) of eating disorder treatment. This episode explores why so many late-diagnosed AuDHD folks experience grief, betrayal, and burnout in recovery settings—and what it means to reclaim recovery on your own terms. Stacie shares her own story of late identification, how it reshaped her clinical lens, and why compliance-based care can feel like safety while quietly reinforcing masking. If you've ever wondered whether traditional recovery frameworks truly work for neurodivergent brains, this episode offers both clarity and comfort.
I hope you enjoy this insightful and thought provoking conversation with a dear friend and colleague of mine, Stacie Fanelli. Stacie Fanelli is a late-discovered AuDHD licensed clinical social worker specializing in the intersection of eating disorders, autism, and ADHD in California and Pennsylvania. She also provides case consultation and supervision to both neurodivergent clinicians looking to better understand anti-oppressive eating disorder care and eating disorder clinicians seeking non-traditional approaches to facilitate their neurodivergent clients' healing. She facilitates a free monthly support group for autistic and ADHD adults struggling with their relationship to food and body. In this episode of Building the Base, our hosts Lauren Bedula and Hondo Guerts dive in with Justin Fanelli CTO of the United States Navy. The conversation revolved around the defense industry, digital transformation in government, and the importance of professional curiosity and humility in private-public partnerships. Some of the major takeaways included the need for accelerated innovation, prioritizing mission outcomes, removing friction in the defense industrial base, and adopting a portfolio-based approach to digital transformation in government. Justin emphases the importance of overcoming cultural and policy barriers, effective risk management, and balancing technological advancements with policy and human considerations.Key Takeaways· Navy CTO's background and mission-focused work.· Military service highlighting the importance of teamwork, discipline, and exposure to a big world.· CTO role in government, including divestment and friction removal.· Barriers to innovation in government, with a focus on policy and cultural changes.· Risk management in public-private partnerships, emphasizing professional curiosity and humility.· importance of considering both actual risks and generalized context for better decision-making.· Tech and policy in government· Using agile methods in government, with a focus on transparency and decentralized coordination.
It's become more and more common for organizations in the Defense Department, from the military services to geographic combatant commands and beyond, to have chief technology officers. What do they do? What challenges do they tackle? Why are they becoming increasingly important as the U.S. military tries to maintain its technological edge over China and other shrewd and savvy rivals using tech to create asymmetries? To help grapple with these questions, I sat down with Schuyler Moore, the CTO of U.S. Central Command, and Justin Fanelli, the CTO of the U.S. Department of the Navy.
Bob Bozic's life story reads like pulp fiction. After a tough upbringing, Bob ran away at 14 and lived on the streets of Toronto. A gangster bookie took him under his wing and taught him to fight. Bob won bout after bout, eventually becoming the amateur heavyweight boxing champ in Canada and fighting Larry Holmes at Madison Square Garden (Bob didn't fare well). After retiring in his 20s, Bob got mixed up in smuggling and attempted to rob a bank, among other crimes. He eventually married and had a child, earning money as a bouncer and bartender — including 25 years behind the bar at Fanelli Cafe in New York City. Bob's new book, "So what happens is..." comes out in June. Check out his June 9 book launch at Fanelli. This episode is sponsored by Berg + Moss Architects, a small architecture studio based in Beacon. Since 1999, Berg + Moss has specialized in housing, hospitality, healthcare and adaptive re-use of historic structures throughout the Hudson Valley and tri-state area.

Himanshu Suri is best known by his rap name Heems. We wanted to have Heems on not just because we are a fan of his former group Das Racist (you may remember their song “Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell”) but because we wanted to talk to him about Punjabi food. About growing up in Queens. About his new passion for gardening. Check out his very cool new album, Lafandar. Also on the show is James Harris, one half of Throwing Fits, a very funny podcast and online community dedicated to all things menswear. We wanted to invite James in not just to talk about chef fashion but also to find out about where he's eating and drinking around his hometown of New York City. We also get into Fanelli vs. Lucien, not being able to get into Gem Wine thanks to TikTok, eating fried prawn heads, Japanese food at home vs. in restaurants, and eating the miso black cod at Nobu as a kid. We also get the Throwing Fits line on Dimes Square. This is a great talk with James, a real one-of-one guest.MORE FROM HEEMS AND THROWING FITS:Dosa Hunt! Junior Handler Wins NOHS Finals in Orlando [caption id="attachment_12679" align="alignleft" width="439"] Adam showing his dog to Best of Breed.[/caption] The 2023 AKC National Owner Handled Series Finals was won by 14-year-old Adam Kucera and his two year old Irish Setter, Stryker. Adam and Stryker's breeder, Patty Fanelli, join host Laura Reeves to share their story. “At (Adam's) first show, he beat me for Winner's Dog,” Fanelli said. “It was one point with the brother. The next show was the Potomac Specialty. He went best in sweeps and he took a five point major and went best of Winners and best puppy. “And I said to him, "You just took a five-point specialty major." And he said, ‘I don't even know what that is.' He sure knows now." Stryker is Adam's first Irish Setter that his grandmother arranged to purchase from Fanelli. He showed a Boston Terrier first, but really wanted to show a bigger dog. Adam says he does all of Stryker's grooming “except the clipper work because I am so afraid he's going to just move and it's just going to go, it's all gone.” The most challenging part of training Stryker, Adam said, was teaching him to freestack “Because he always just wants to jump, he always just wants to jump on my shoulders and thinks it's time to play as soon as I hold a treat and not hold him.” A 4.0 home-schooled student, Adam says he practices with Stryker every morning before completing his school work. Competing in NOHS gives Adam and is family more time to spend at the shows. “My first show, we went to the show and I didn't win the breed,” Adam said. “We went to go watch the groups and we saw that there were two groups going and we were like ‘why are there two, there should only be one?' So then we found out what owner handler was. It's kind of hard to show an Irish Setter. There's not that many owner handlers out where I live, so if we want to stay a little bit longer at the show, we can do owner-handled and that gives us stuff to do and it's a really fun competition.” Adam has set lofty goals for himself and his dog. His remaining goals for Stryker include winning best of breed at the National Specialty and winning the breed at Westminster Kennel Club. He dreams of becoming a professional handler and breeding Irish Setters in his future. Take a listen to the entire episode for more from this outstanding young man.

In 2020, The secretary of the U.S. Navy signed out an Information Superiority Vision, naming information superiority as a key strategic focus for the department,as well as restructuring and empowering the role of the Navy CIO, and charting a course for the sea service to take action on its most pressing needs in IT and cybersecurity. Now more than three years later, the Navy is continuing to execute on that strategy, with some new technology leadership in place. One of those leaders is Justin Fanelli, technical director for Navy's PEO Digital and newly appointed acting CTO for the service. In a conversation with the Daily Scoop podcast, Fanelli touches on how the department has made progress executing the Information Superiority Vision, how the department is approaching AI and what the service is doing to better bridge the valley of death to scale innovation. Today on the show, we welcome in James Harris, one half of Throwing Fits, a very funny podcast and online community dedicated to all things menswear. In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we caught up with Luciano Di Croce from the Center of Genomic Regulation in Barcelona to talk about his work on epigenetic landscapes in cancer. The Di Croce Lab focuses on the Polycomb Complex and its influence on diseases like cancer. Luciano Di Croce started out his research career investigating the oncogenic transcription factor PML-RAR. They could show that in leukemic cells knockdown of SUZ12, a key component of Polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2), reverts not only histone modification but also induces DNA de-methylation of PML-RAR target genes. More recently the team focused on two other Polycomb related proteins Zrf1 and PHF19 and were able to characterize some of their functions in gene targeting in different disease and developmental contexts.
