社评:勾结外部势力谋“独”,换不来台湾安全|Editorial:Colluding with external forces would notensure security in Taiwan After barking for weeks since the eruption of Russia-Ukraine tensions, Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen has finally received her long-awaited treats from across the Pacific. The Joe Biden administration sent a high-level delegation of former officials on Asia affairs and security from both parties, led by Michael Mullen, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to the island on Tuesday to reaffirm to the Tsai administration the US' "rock solid" commitment to Taiwan's security, and to spur her to further upgrade the island's defense system. The last time a US delegation visited the island as a "personal signal" by Biden was on April 13 last year. A day later, his administration announced its decision to pull US forces out of Afghanistan. The Biden administration announced a $750 million arms deal with the island three months later. A second deal of $100 million was approved on Feb 7, with the US administration citing the Ukraine crisis as an impetus. Nobody will be surprised if the Biden administration announces its approval of a third arms sales after the visit.2月7日,美国政府以乌克兰危机为由,批准了拜登上任后第二次对台军售,总价达11亿美元。 The reason why Tsai is trying to take advantage of the Ukraine crisis to arouse the international community's "empathy" with the island is that she wants to blur the line on the Taiwan question. But the international community is well aware that it is an internal affair of China. Although the island's defense budget has risen from $11 billion when Tsai took her post in 2016 to $17 billion this year, much of which has found its way into the pockets of the US military complex, it has only served to fuel Tsai's anxiety. Given that former secretary of state Mike Pompeo is visiting the island from Wednesday to Saturday hard on the heels of Biden's delegation, which is visiting from Tuesday to Wednesday, their reassuring words and salesmanship may ease Tsai's anxiety, albeit temporarily. The US should match its words with deeds and uphold the one-China principle with sincerity. It was the 50th anniversary of the release of the Shanghai Communique on Monday, in which the US side acknowledged that Taiwan is a part of China and reaffirmed "its interest in a peaceful settlement of the Taiwan question by the Chinese themselves". That's a responsible stance for the US to adopt today. As for Tsai, her anxiety will continue to grow as it stems from her knowledge that her secessionist cause is doomed to failure as it goes against the will of the Chinese nation. eruption 英 [ɪˈrʌpʃn]; 美 [ɪˈrʌpʃn]n.

Additionally, he taught at the Woodrow Wilson School of International and Public Affairs at Princeton University. Today he continues to teach Advanced Ethics and Leadership at the US Naval Academy.Admiral Mullen's passion for leadership started with college sports. His passion to communicate came from his father, a Hollywood PR executive, and his interest in human relations was enhanced by the Navy, where he was provided the opportunity to travel internationally and get to understand different cultures.Mullen believes that creating a framework for yourself by establishing your values and principles is a foundation for discovering your true north and leadership style. Mullen advises that no matter what happens, we should never walk away from integrity. When faced with failure, we need to take the time to reflect on who we are and how we can improve in the future. When difficult and challenging situations approach, we as leaders should rely on our values, have the courage to ask for help, and understand accountability. Leadership encompasses taking responsibility in good times and bad. When a mistake is made, a leader is tested by how they persevere, and they must keep going instead of giving up. It is not about the failure itself, but how  the person handled it and what they learned the lessons. Another important skill is effective communication and managing relationships, particularly in such tense times. Having good relationships and strong mentors will continue to provide the support needed during all types of situations. Join us, and learn how to make tough decisions, understand culture and history, prepare ourselves for global challenges and make the world a better place.

He and Ben's mother are about to divorce, and the legal stakes keep dramatically increasing, ultimately culminating in abduction. The battle for Ben negatively affects Mike's career, education, financial state, friendships, romantic life, physical health, and emotional well-being. Refusing to relinquish his parental rights leads Mike to personal bankruptcy, temporary homelessness, potentially catastrophic errors at work, and suicidal depression. Yet he steadfastly refuses to consider a life that consists of living apart from his son. With courts continually ruling against Ben's father, it remains uncertain if their bond will survive. Ultimately, they will write their own love story. ~ William J. McGee was born in New York City and received an MFA in Fiction from Columbia University. Guest William J. McGee, author of HALF THE CHILD, discusses many aspects of writing a novel. McGee's book was a semi-finalist in both the James Jones First Novel Competition and the William Faulkner Creative Writing Competition, and was an Honorable Mention in the New England Book Competition. The novel takes place over four consecutive summers in the lives of Michael Mullen and his son Ben, who ages from 2 1/2 to 5 1/2 years. It chronicles the separation, divorce, custody battle, and abduction that threaten to tear apart a father and son. Mike, a 34-year old air traffic controller at New York City's LaGuardia Airport, who is also pursuing a graduate degree in Psychology finds himself going through a divorce. Through these four summers, the legal stakes keep dramatically increasing, as mediation devolves into litigation, culminating in Ben's abduction as his mother attempts to resettle outside of the US. Mike steadfastly refuses to consider a life that consists of him living apart from Ben. Ultimately father and son will write their own love story. He is a wonderful storyteller, and we ask him about the African American baseball players who were the first to play on each of the 16 teams in existence after Jackie Robinson first broke baseball's color barrier in 1947. There is not much Bob does not know about baseball history, so we throw in some more questions, including our thirst for knowledge about the great Oscar Charleston. Today’s guest is Michael Mullen, Co-Founder of GenRenew and one of the most energetic and enthusiastic leaders I have ever met. I’ve known Mikel for 10 years since my first days in the solar industry when he was a top performer at Verengo Solar. He has had enormous success in the renewable energy industry, helping build the company Roof Diagnostics before it was sold to NRG and then becoming Vice President of Sales for SolarCity. On the show, we learn how seemingly chance events have played a critical role in his life. From finding a flyer about a summer job, to overhearing a conversation about solar at his parent's house, to his grandfather boarding a train that would allow him to meet his grandmother...Mike talks about how these moments ended up having a profound influence on his life, as he candidly shares stories like why he decided to end pursuing a career in accounting so he could start his first sales job. Mike also opens up about his ongoing challenge riding the highs and lows of life as he reveals a special saying that his mother shared that he often thinks about during difficult times. Mike talks about how a magical trip to India gave him a new perspective about what allows us to be content, why grit, positivity, and vision are characteristics he looks for in leaders, and why he attributes much of his success to the fact that he found something (solar) that allows him to be as enthusiastic as he is. This conversation is raw and unfiltered and I’m truly grateful to Mike for being so open! It takes some courage to be vulnerable and willing to share so many personal stories. I hope you enjoy this conversation and gain value out of these insights and others on this episode of Insight Out!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/bePatron?u=23010497)

Michael Mullen, 48, president of Also Known As (AKA), a New York City-based transnational adoption group, raises a thoughtful take on his identity as a Korean-American adoptee; that being an ethnic Korean, an American and an adoptee are three separate identifiers that are equally important. Mullen recalls moving to Korea after watching the '88 Summer Olympics and how that and a second relocation to Korea and the years after helped him realize that just focusing on reclaiming his Korean heritage to compensate for not being raised in a Korean family wasn't fully who he is. Mullen is also a father of two and discusses about what passing on his adoption experience to his kids looks like.

Segment 1- Mindie – BURIAL GROUNDS – DEATH AND THE ANCIENTS Death is the ultimate connection to the landscape.   Experiencing of Death and birth. Both are beginnings and ends of life cycles It seems the ancient people of Western Europe may have articulated this concept in their passage tombs. Sometimes they resemble a womb … with the earth as the mother.   Thin places are places where we mark beginning and ends. These are sacred times. Fitting to be remembered and memorialized in sacred spaces. In this next segment, Archaeologist Michael Moylan takes us to a burial ground in Connemara long forgotten. He uncovers a few graves and talks a little about the burial process in that region.       SEGMENT 2 - GUEST INTERVIEW   Michael Moylan is an archaeologist and tour operator from County Galway who invited me today to visit him on a small exploration of some graves that seem to be washing away at a place called Storm Beach. It is located just behind the Connemara Regional Airport I County Galway. Michael has unearthed some graves and discussed their age and some other specifics as well as some wonderful destinations to visit in Ireland. Michael Gibbons Archaeology Travel Omey Island Kylemore Abbey Connemara Aiport (view of Storm Beach from the air - Welcome to Connemara NOTE: Michael Moylan did alert the people of the community around Storm Beach to come consider taking care of these gravesites that were washing away, distributing bones along the beaches.     SEGMENT 3 - SITE REVIEW Omey IsLand   Omey Island – off the western edge of Connemara in County Galway. Accessible at low tide only. You can walk or drive across the strand onto the island. Tides are high so be aware that at certain times of the year, the tide can come in quickly and be high enough to cover a vehicle.   SIGHT AND PERCEPTIONS – the island is very old. According to the Irish Central Statistics Office, there is no one left living full time on the island anymore. The weather is dramatic – especially the wind There were people living on Omey Island thousands of years ago. It was also believed to be the last holdout of paganism in Ireland. St. Feichin was seventh century saint who founded a monastic settlement on Omey Island. He later went on to found several other settlements including Fore Abbey in co. Meath which is what he’s most famous for. But he started here on Omey. Nothing is left of his original settlement on Omey, but it continued to foster a Christian community well into the Medieval times, and there are ruins from that community. There’s a large bowl-shaped out impression on a hillside in Omey Island, and in the center of it are the ruins of a Medieval church. This is likely where St. Feichin had his monastery and the ruins are of a later church. The church ruins and remnants of the community were buried in the sand – the wind is very strong. The hole or depression that you now see the church ruin sitting in shows how it was excavated in 1981 after being buried in the sand. Surrounding the area is a semi sunken village – foundations from stone huts, occupied by islanders were also discovered. The village was wiped out during the Famine. The wind literally blew the sand over the little village and the church. I took a tour of Omey Island with the archaeologist, Michael Mullen who works with Michael Moylan. I asked him about the famine and how it hit Omey. I asked if there was a massive evacuation and he said that often times, families just closed the doors to their cottages and laid down and died. Omey is one of the wild places where nature is reclaiming the landscape. We went in May and noticed all the wildflowers. The old graveyard was nearly covered in Primrose. Omey Island has a mystical quality about it in all its harshness and wild beauty. It’s worth a visit. Check the tides before venturing. Even walking along the hard sand causeway at low tide is worth the visit. Omey Island Tides Michael Gibbons Archaeology Travel Omey Island Omey Island Walk Exploring the Aughrus Peninsula     SEGMENT 4 – MINDIE RECCOMENDS   Hidden Messages in Water by Dr. Masaru Emoto – written in 2001. Through high speed photography demonstrated how frozen water crystals changed when exposed to concentrated thought. The thoughts were sometimes spoken – even written – communicated in many languages. But as the thoughts changed, the crystal shapes and vibrancy changed. The book expands to discuss water and our connection to it and our intimate connection with all life and some amazing experiments that show that we can communicate with nature in a way to heal the land and heal ourselves.   SEGMENT 5 - CONCLUDE   Thank you for listening to the Thin Places Travel Podcast.
