There's no such thing as having it all. Every success takes sacrifice. Amy's guest today is actress, singer, song-writer, wife & brand new mom, Mackenzie Porter! With her packed career and being in entertainment, Mackenzie definitely asked herself: “Can I have a baby and continue my work?” (a thought none of us should have, but we most certainly do!) This leads to a quote from Shonda Rhimes that we love:  “Whenever you see me somewhere succeeding in one area of my life, that almost certainly means I am failing in another area of my life.”  Her point being there's no balance or “having it all” because perfection is impossible and we need not have those standards or be expected to do it all…just work hard and do our best where we are in each moment.    Mackenzie grew up on a bison and cattle ranch in Canada….so obviously Amy asks her if she knows the Bison Storm Analogy! They also talk about how Mackenzie started taking piano, violin and singing lessons at just 4-years-old, her acting career (Amy loved the show Travelers she was in on Netflix a while back), what it's like to work with actors and other singers, shooting her shot with Walker Hayes, her new album ‘Nobody's Born With a Broken Heart' + songs on it, how writing is therapeutic, not comparing ourselves to others on social media & 4 Things Gratitude: Mackenzie shared 1) what she's thankful for today, a show she's obsessed with, a song she loves and a drink that's been bringing her joy during this season of life!  HOST: Amy Brown // RadioAmy.com // @RadioAmy  GUEST: Mackenzie Porter // @mackenziepmusic See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

As a talented actor on the rise, J. Alex Brinson continues to build his body of work by bringing dynamic characters to life within his acting career. Currently, Brinson can be seen as Bailiff Luke Watkins in CBS’s drama ALL RISE alongside Simone Missick, Wilson Bethel, Jessica Camacho. The drama follows the dedicated, chaotic, hopeful, and sometimes absurd lives of judges, prosecutors, and public defenders as they work with bailiffs, clerks and cops to get justice for the people of Los Angeles amidst a flawed legal system. Previously, Brinson starred as Jeff Conniker in Netflix Sci-fi series, TRAVELERS along side Nesta Cooper, Eric McCormack and Mackenzie Porter. Initially his role was only meant to be a 3-episode Guest Star, however, Brinson’s immersion into his role as a domestically violent police officer convinced the show’s producers that they wanted him for all 3 seasons. Brinson’s early passion to perform landed him a place in the Drama Division at the prestigious Juilliard School where he went up against over 2,000 applicants to become one of only 150 students accepted. His experience at Julliard helped lead him into his current success on television.

We've got a pair of artist interviews for you this week, and once again, they come from opposite ends of the sonic spectrum. Having devoted the past few years to her acting career, appearing in shows like Travelers and Hell on Wheels, Mackenzie Porter has returned to music with her first new songs since her JUNO and CCMA-nominated 2014 debut. Speaking with Mike, Mackenzie talks about juggling her acting and music careers, writing in Nashville, why her 2018 release strategies are different than those from 2014, how streaming has impacted the film and music industries differently, and a lot more. Then, Andrew catches up with Dan Boeckner, frontman for heralded acts like Operators and Wolf Parade. Operators are about to perform a pair of sold-out shows in New York and Toronto comprised of tunes from one of Dan's other critically adored projects, Handsome Furs. He talks about the process of choosing an ultimate Furs set list, how it feels to revisit and dissect some of those songs, and how he compartmentalizes his creative process considering the various projects and collaborations he's involved with.

Episode 146 - Say goodbye to the Red Era… album five is coming! In Episode 146 of Taylor Talk: The Taylor Swift Podcast, your hosts — Adam, Diane, and Sami — discuss the three clues Taylor released on Twitter and Instagram that possibly relate to her upcoming album. What’s the relationship between an elevator, Olivia, a polaroid camera, and yahoo.com? Listen up to hear our theories and be sure to share your own. Enjoy the show! Highlights from Episode 146 of Taylor Talk: The Taylor Swift Podcast Main Discussion – Fifth Album Clues - An 18th elevator button, a cat, a polaroid camera, and yahoo… what does it all mean?? - Yahoo may have spilled the beans, even though Scott Borchetta says nothing has been confirmed. - Is there any significance to certain things being cut out of the Instagram pictures? - We wonder if these clues also hint to the subject of the new single, not just the album announcement. - That awkward moment when the album five announcement is actually Taylor announcing her retirement… (just kidding) - Only the Taylor Talk hosts would have an entire discussion about capitalization Others Topics: - A preview of Taylor in the The Giver has been released! What did you think? - Be sure to check out Taylor Swift on the Tonight Show and Late Night this week! - Raise your hand if you want a review of The Giver mini-episode this weekend! (I hope Steve & Maya are okay with this idea) - You know you’re a Taylor Talker when you listen to Taylor Talk on the elliptical at your gym, and the lady working there has to ask you to get off the machine because you’ve been on for two hours and didn’t realize it!! - Swifties are listening to “If You Ask Me To” - MacKenzie Porter
